Count On Me – Duo Session

No matter how many turns a river makes …

This song was initially written and recorded for our album ORANGE. It being a very “acoustic-y” song to begin with, it was the perfect candidate for a Duo Session.

It’s about the thing that fundamentally keeps us going. The feeling of hope and meaning we derive from being there for one another, from helping each other for some sort of greater purpose. It’s about believing in life, believing in people, believing in yourself and in the journey you are on. Believing in the fact that things will work out.

Because as John Lennon once said: “Everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end.”

We hope you enjoy this acoustic version of “Count On Me” and send you all much love! ♥

  1. Sometimes I throw a stone into the darkness, then leg it when someone yells, ‘Ouch! Who threw that?’
Seriously though, this song still makes my face leak every time I hear it. It’s beautiful.

  2. This song is so beautiful. You are amazing songwriters and composers. Melody is just beautiful and those harmonies are gorgeous.

  3. Still playing catch-up with everything on the site, but I have to echo most of the sentiments here on this fabulous song.
I have a friend that just suffered a tragic loss in her life and I’m going to send it to her to help the healing process.
Thank you for your artistic genius and beautiful voices. ❤

  4. hi, I hope you don’t get tired of hearing compliments, but I really like this song. The guitars, the lyrics, and it’s so enjoyable for me to see you looking like you are enjoying playing these songs. C’est Magnifique.
    Thanks,
    Bobby S.

  5. Love this Duo Sessions version! Thank you for answering the question about this version in in Part I of the Orange Q and A. It is true that a song can develop over time after its’ original recording. It shows your continued growth as people as well as musicians.

The Duo Sessions are special pieces of work. They provide us with opportunities to really appreciate your musical abilities and craftmanship.

It is so nice to see the maturation process from “When We’re Together” to “Orange” to the songs that have been released for the new album. Different genres, different themes, and different musicianship has been evident as you have grown from teenagers to adults.

    Well done, Mona and Lisa…bravo!

  6. OMG Mona and Lisa, I know I posted on this song before and yes this is my favorite song off the Orange album. But do you both realize how lovely you both sound and blend? It is magic to me and do you both feel this when you sing together? Maybe your used to it after all this time but my goodness you both have such a lovely tone in your singing voices it is heaven to me ladies. I have said this before, I know in my lifetime there is or will be there no one like you and thank god I found you back in 2017. You both support each other so well and you can feel the love and spirit when you both sing or play together and beyond that the way you both act towards each other is so nice to see and how much fun you have together and laughter is great!

  7. This could be the one. Marlo and I felt an attachment to this song right away. The lyrics inspire hope, trust, support, and love. When this song comes on in the car our hands instinctively reach for each other. We think of it as “our song”As I glance over to give her a grin, she tells me to keep my eyes on the road.

This performance is almost to beautiful to describe. Thanks to MLT for bringing so much beauty and light to the world.

  8. I can’t get enough of this song! Normally the last thing I do before logging off the MLT club is to play this video – generally more than once! It never fails to lift my spirits.

  9. Absolutely lovely!!! Better then the Orange version I think – the vocals sound cleaner. Fun to sing along and try to make it three part harmony. One of my favorite “Duos” so far!!

  10. I know I Posted on this song already but wow when I Watch this video, I see the love you both have for your craft! Seeing Mona look over at Lisa and Lisa looking over at Mona you can feel the love you both have for each other and your craft, it is inspiring to see and makes me feel that music is such a wonderful thing and it makes one feel so good especially this song, well written and put together is perfect along with the harmony’s and guitar picking and riffs from Mona. Wow again this song is special in my heart and love this song so much, again memories of the early 1970 music from people like James Taylor, Cat Stevens, Carly Simon, Jim Croche, Harry Chapen, Helen Reddy, Roberta Flack, I could go on but you both deliver the goods every time you sing and play your instruments it is a god given talent and than you so much

  11. What an incredibly beautiful version of my favorite song! I didn’t type favorite MLT song, just favorite song. I was deeply touched by the positive feeling and warmth the perfect lyrics invoked the first time I heard it, and the feeling is no less poignant with each new listen. The Duo Session and its’ accompanying video make it feel even more special and personal. Thank you, Ladies, and Much Love right back to you!

  12. No matter how many times I listen to this song, I can’t hear it enough. And now we have this mesmerizing performance to enjoy. Nice!
Thank you for this Duo Session. It’s perfect.

  13. I love this. The harmonies, the acoustic guitars. What more can be said? Awesome song, brilliant performance. Yeah, I love this.

  14. I’m glad you chose this song. It is, just as you say, about a positive hopeful outlook on life. Personally, with regard to national politics and culture, I often feel disgusted. How do we respond to such feelings? Not always well, that’s for sure. Getting past the negativity and getting back to the music, our sense of wonder in Nature, our love and respect for those closest to us… is what we need to be about. Always.

  15. I’ve been in love with this song since the very beginning and it certainly makes me feel closer to you Mona and Lisa (no pun tended:) )♥️♥️♥️

  16. One of my favourite songs off the album! Thanks for sharing this beautiful version and for the inspiring words in your comment!
So nice to see you enjoy your own music!

  17. Ok now that I dried up my joy of tears…..thank you so much for this beautiful song. It is no secret I have posted thru out the years that this song is my favorite off your Orange Album and I think I posted a question if you would ever do a video on Count On Me. This song is filled with so much from beautiful harmony’s to wonderful guitar work to words to meaning etc….takes me back to the early 1970’s with Carly Simon and Jim Crochie to James Taylor to Cat Stevens etc….this song flows thru my mind with wonderful memories of that time of my life, the melody is so simple and soothing to me. I can listen to this song again and again and never get tired of listening to it. Me like everyone else has been in this lock down world due to Covid and when I listen to your music if makes me feel so good knowing that two beautiful ladies in this world are making sure this music is alive and well and to know that there are good times awaiting all of us and to see a light at the end of the tunnel is coming soon. Mona and Lisa you are two simply beautiful ladies and admire your
talent and vision and thank you so much for taking us along this journey your on. Count on Me goes both ways, you can count on us Club Members to support and love you both. Also you both are wonderful role models for Maddie who looks up to you both.
God Bless and please keep it coming and hope you both and Pa and Micellea are doing well and safe.

  18. “Count on Me” is probably my all time favorite song. Not just my favorite MLT song, but my favorite song of all the songs I’ve loved over the years. Sixty-eight of them, years that is. That includes thousands of songs. I think the lyrics are brilliant. I think the melody is comforting, soothing, relaxing, inspiring… every good thing you can imagine. It all comes together as beautiful, inspiring, hopeful, encouraging, loving, caring, passionate, promising, with unlimited dreams and possibilities. It provokes memories of growing up with my middle brother and being his little shadow. Even though we could be a thorn in each other’s sides occasionally, we always had each other’s six. It was us against the world.
The duo is one that is so beautiful and magical because the original song is so very well suited for an acoustic version; and because of everything previously stated as well as the talent involved. I have been waiting for and expecting a duo session of “Count on Me” and I am not disappointed. I love, love, love, love this duo session. Thank you Lisa and thank you Mona for writing this song and for giving us a duo session of “Count on Me!”

  19. As always ladies a really great performance. Your harmonies Mona are beautiful on the ear. I was a great lover of the Everly brothers harmonising and to me you ladies are on par.

  20. The guitar work is so soothing and the singing and harmonies so expressive and tender. I can feel it pull at my heartstrings. This long awaited gem was well worth the wait, and I love this duo session version.

Always one of my favourite songs from Orange right from the very first listen, it’s song writing par excellence. Such a beautiful melody and moving and inspiring lyrics of hope and faith. This song makes me believe you are a modern day Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and Lennon and McCartney; such diversity in your music!

Met up with my brother from the USA for the first time since the pandemic now that the borders are open, and what a wonderful surprise today to have this supreme slice of joy and peace from you both too. Count on Me was so fitting for a wonderful day of family love, and get together with people I count on the most in my life. Thank you for this little piece of heaven on earth. 🙂

  21. When I listen to your music in the car, this is one of the songs I cannot listen to just once – I always rewind a few times.

  22. Wow Ladies, I love this stripped back version so much better. So Raw and Vulnerable.
For me this song has always said, no matter where we may go, no matter the distance between us, you can always Count On Me to be there anytime or any place. I will forever be by your side.
Wonderful Job Ladies! Thanks so much.
    Rick

  23. Gorgeous harmonies, Beautiful arrangement, Wonder Vocals, it’s as if you let the song guide you, like the flow of a river.
You are simply amazing, you are so Beautiful and so gifted.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful song.

    Love And Hugs,

  24. What a Beautiful song! I know I’ll be listening to this all weekend along with the Orange Album. I absolutely Love this song . You 2 are Amazing .this is the reason I joined this Club.

    Thank You for Sharing this.

  25. Wunderbar! Beautiful harmony and guitar work blended nicely, and I love the lyrics. “Count On Me” was tied for my favorite of the Orange album, and I think I like this version better. I was hoping it was on your Duo Session list.

The beat takes me back to my dancing days at western bars, which were the places we mostly danced here when we were younger. I love the beat, but I was not that good at dancing to it.

  26. This song touches my heart more than any other of all your incredible songs. And the reasons it does are those you have professed so beautifully and honestly in the paragraph you wrote above. This is what makes you both so special. This is what you share so generously with those around you. This is why I love you both so much and why I will always support you as much as I am able. This is why you are, and will always be, my favorite artists and people. This is why you can count on me.

  27. My apologies for leaving so quickly, I need to call my doctor to see if I can get an appointment right away as I have developed a sudden achy-tickly warmth in my chest and my eyes got all watery for some reason…

  28. September 29th, 2017 . The dowload of the fantastic album Orange was released… I had already received the CDs… but I awaited the official release. I loved all the tracks..but one of them made my soul vibrate and tears spring from my eyes and also a smile of joy and peace., this magnificent song “count on me” has since been one of my favorite songs of all time..and how the river will always meet the sea, I knew that one day you would record an acoustic version, a Duo Session of this beautiful song..again my soul vibrated and danced, tears of peace and joy welled up in my eyes.. Thank you so much dear Mona and Lisa…God bless you…I have no words to express how much I loved this video. and
“You can always Count on Us”.
    Stay Groovy!.

  29. This is such a gorgeous performance of a gorgeous song. I love the way that Mona’s harmonies flow above Lisa’s lead during the verses and slip down below for the choruses. Enchanting. Beautiful work, twins. Thank you.

    1. Thanks for pointing out the harmony changes, Ed. I notice it every time now. Mona’s range is amazing. I almost missed when Mona took a pick from her lap in one precise sweep. Didn’t Lisa do the same maneuver in Stuck In The Middle?

I think we all connect to this song in one way or another, whether it is one who offers support, or one in need of support. My wife and I love to dance during this song. It stirs up a lot of great memories for us. Peace, love and hope in perfect harmony. TGIF

  31. Lovely! I like this better than the original in Orange (and that was one of my faves from Orange!). The live feel of this version makes it so much better than the studio version.

  32. I love the duo sessions and this version of “Count on me” is perfect! Wonderful version and thankyou for sharing it with us! Best wishes to Mona, Lisa and Family!!

  33. Thank you for this wonderful gift to start the weekend! Lisa’s sweet, absolutely dulcet lead vocal and Mona’s angelic harmonies are even better than the Orange version. I’m also so impressed with the thoughtfulness and gentle insight in your lyrics, especially in not your native language. Always love seeing you perform as Duo live, and each girl’s loveliness shines inside and out. Appreciate the gift of joy and peace from this song. Wishing all a wonderful weekend!

  34. My prayers were answered. Thank you very much Mona and Lisa I was really looking forward to this version of a duet session
Today I had planned to send the question of when they would make this version and it is already answered. (Now I’ll have to think of another)

    Best regards

  35. This is the song from ORANGE that I have been waiting so long for you to do an acoustic video of and couldn’t be happier with the results. This has such a sweet melody I hope it gets used in a movie someday soon. Thanks for finally recording it as a Duo Session video. Cheerio ladies.

    Rich

  36. Well you know ladies there is some serious compeition in the wooden music department.
The Indigo Girls and Crosby, Stills & Nash come to mind.
But nobody unplugs better than Mona & Lisa.
    Nice job.

  37. Wow, how I LOVE this song. Everything about it. The lyrics are so poetic and have deep layered meaning for me. No matter how many turns a river makes
It will always meet the sea”, “But when I find you walking there beside me
I know the breaking of the dawn will have begun” are such meaningful and beautiful phrases, that I loved this perfect song from the first play. It also feel so relevant today, this is a classic, no doubt. The Duo Session also brings up it’s beauty with the impeccable stripped down performance. There’s so much going on with “just” two voices and two guitars. Lisa’ guitar fingerpicking might take me two lifetimes to learn properly. The harmonies achieve so much while being understated. Can’t get enough of it, it’s shot to the top of my list.
Definitively brings me lots of Joy and Peace.
    Thank you!

  38. Ah … SO beautiful and soothing! After listening and watching (more than half of the fun!) to you two singing it, I called my wife down to my studio and we played it again. She agreed with me that it just puts everything into a calm place of peacefulness. Thank you!

  39. Unexpected, I was listening to Orange this last week and this song really caught my ears again, reminding me of the mid to late 60’s Folk era. That song is so well written, the melody and harmonies are absolutely Great!!!!! WOW, what an uplifting feel good song!
    Stay Groovy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  40. This song lends it’s self so well to a “Duo-Session” performance. It has such emotion that comes crashing through in this setting. Beautiful song and performance.

  41. Wow I just this version of the song your voices go together so well and youre both in perfect harmony its one of my favourites on the album orange

  42. Because I am a “ballad guy”, I find this to be one of my favorite songs among all you have done. I appreciate the harmonies, as always, and the guitar work is very poignant. Bravo!!

  43. I think the song is wonderful and you both did an equally wonderful job on it as a Duo Session. When life takes on a darker image to me, you, Mona and Lisa, help to make it brighter again for me. Much love to both of you … Brian.

  44. Kudos for doing this one for a Duo Session, most definitely a perfect canidate … I was hoping and thinking you’d eventually be doing this one…made my Friday and Wknd…Quite #MLTBuzzLuvGroovified now am I…It’s equally as uplifting as the album version, just completely gobsmacked seeing/hearing you both here, such Groovy Music Magic, Thankyou for this, ????????☮
