Behind “I Bought Myself A Politician” – DAY 1 – Photos

A look behind the scenes …

Today we are sharing all the making-of photos we took on Day 1 (of 3) of filming our latest video “I Bought Myself A Politician”.

On YouTube, many people have commented on the “big production”, “many extras” and “editors” and “large budget” of the video. These comments always make us chuckle.

If only they knew that the entire video was made by four people: the two of us, our dad Rudi and stepmum Michaela and not a single person had even seen, let alone worked on the video before we hit the “upload” button. But we take it as a compliment! 😉

In the MLT Club we always like to share a bit of the background on how we make projects happen and in some of the photos you can see how we “set up” the scenes we filmed on the checkerboard dancefloor. We worked until 6 in the morning on Day/Night 1 to get all the shots for that first refrain.

Thankfully the place we filmed at was fine with us making a racket throughout the night …. they usually host weddings and hen parties/stag do’s there (bachelor/bachelorette parties) so they were used to the noise. We certainly made less of a mess than their usual guest 😉

We wrote little captions on some of the photos so if you hover over them you will be able to read a bit more backstory on them.

Bye-bye for now and stay groovy,
Mona & Lisa

  1. Always love these “behind the scenes” pics and videos you post. The fact that all this greatness comes from the work of four people just boogles my mind! And please always remember how much your work is appreciated by all of us who appreciate refreshing and original music. Whether your playing an original, or covering a classic song, you always bring a smile to my face! And smiling is good, so Thank You!!

  2. Wonderful pictures! It’s great to see “behind the scenes” pictures and video.
We realize that making “professional” videos requires a great deal of hard work and time. But, on the other, we just love them so! I understand we are selfish but it’s your fault. You made us love you. So, keep it up. 🙂
Please tell Michaela that “she’s still got it” and say “Hi” to Rudi from us in the states. I just wish I had half his technical expertise.

  3. I love to see the behind the scenes pictures! It shows how much fun everyone has! It always amazes me how professional your videos are. Great job! (Again)

  4. Wow! Such fantastic photos! Love the costumes! You girls look great in everything you wear. It’s always a treat seeing Mona with her drums too!

  5. Its remarkable how the 4 of you make it look like a whole cast and crew are involved in the production. Complete with makeup artists, catering, set designers. A Director, sound and lighting technicians, props, and Extras.
I know you all had so much fun in the production of I Bought Myself A Politician.
I am Thrilled its doing do WELL!
Mona, I Love your 75th Anniversary Ricky. When did you get that!?
Thanks Ladies for sharing these special behind the scenes photos.

  6. While some earlier comments have suggested this is Beatlesque, I tend to agree with this reaction from one of my friends:

“Outstanding! (Song and video). Kinks-ish. Could be a hit? Well done ladies.”

  7. Lisa is just a doll baby in her costume. Mona looks smoking in her military costume and is a beauty in any era or occupation. I really loved her Pope costume. Lisa, how many tries did it take to kick the world ball straight to the camera?

  8. The amazing Wagner family! You all seem to live by one of Walt Disney’s mottos – “It’s kind of fun to do the impossible!”
Obviously I love the Terrific Two, Mona and Lisa; but with Rudi’s production skills and wonderful to see Michaela in charge of the money, it’s the FabFour 2.0!
What I love most is seeing pictures of a loving family having so much fun together. Thanks for inviting us to share in your family’s fun!

  9. Thanks for sharing these, and so soon. It is always interesting to see what lengths you go to achieving perfection. I am starting to wonder if Lisa and Mona have the koolest parents in the world, or do Michaela and Rudi have the koolest daughters in the world? Either way, it’s a win-win.

It is amazing this masterpiece was created by a family of four. Just the fact that you got all the Mona shots in three days is an incredible accomplishment by itself. But you did all the filming in three days, and then presented the video a week later. Nice!

  10. Thank you for sharing. It is great to see that you all looked like you were having a good time while working hard all night. Although, in one picture it looks like Mona may be having a bit too much fun with the smoke machine. It is truly amazing what the four of you are able produce.

  11. Thanks for showing behind the scenes, looks like a lot of fun although hard work was involved I’m sure. Love the video also. Great entertainment.

  12. I’m in constant awe of how the 4 of you can accomplish and pull off the best efforts in video production, with all that is involved in making happen from the concept in mind to the actual production in reality in fruition. Whoa, I just thoroughly enjoyed looking at all the BTS pix of Day 1, so lovely to see both Rudi and Michaela make appearances in the collection here. Kudos to making it all happen. As I’ve said before, the combo of location, costumes, etc, all intertwine and compliment the ” IBMAP” concept perfectly.
Thankyou for sharing these pix of BTS Day 1, can’t wait for what you have have for Days 2/3 !!!! ????????

  13. You guys are amazing! What you accomplished in 3 days (and nights) with just the 4 of you is incredible! Loved the pictures of Mona in the military uniform! Such a beauty! I’ve already posted how good Lisa looks in that hat and those glasses! Question, did Michaela have to pick up all the money Lisa was throwing around? You don’t pay her enough! (Jk,)

  14. What an awesome set of pics! You can’t blame non clubbers for thinking you have a large production crew and even larger budget. The end products always appear so professionally done, and this one may just set the new benchmark for you! Maybe we shouldn’t shy away from referring to you as professional producers any longer. The results prove you can do so much with limited resources and only a few people. That in itself is an art form, and all you Wagners keep showing us your insane level and varied forms of artistry! By the way; did Michaela get an anonymous cameo behind the mask in the black cloak? Thanks so much for these behind-the-scenes glimpses, and I can’t wait for days 2&3!

  15. Well I have to say your videography skills are becoming legendary! Kudos to team MLT for pulling off this magnificent video. It’s so fun to see all the different sides of gorgeous Mona from uniformed officer, to judge, high priestess, to Royal lady on the guitar. It looks like Mona had a lot of fun with the smoking machine. Lisa shone wonderfully as the beautiful tycoon, so cute and innocent, and yet infamously deceptive and treacherous. Fulfilled that character so brilliantly. Thanks so much for showing us these behind the scenes.
