A few wks ago around the beginning of the 2023 MLT Advent Calendar, or perhaps a week or two before was listening to ORANGE Album, remembering the first or second or maybe it was the 3rd MLT Advent Calendar years ago, where Mona & Lisa baked up a storm in their kitchen and shared Reindeer cookies, and a Smoothie recipes and this year’s 2023 Advent Calendar during Day 9/10 of the Cookie Recipe Share and then Mona & Lisa’s Baking Results from the Recipes they chose to tackle….

Anyhow, that got me craving for a Creamsicle inspired flavored muffin ….

I Googled and found a recipe, and tried it… Darn tasty and Fab turnout for my first attempt at making it , it also has a Creamsicle flavored glazed frosting … yummmmmers … Creamsicle Popsicles were one of my childhood favorites during Summer and a soda pop company called ” Stewart’s ” at one time created spot on the “Creamsicle ” undeniable taste in a soda pop …

Okay, before I share the recipe here , my main notion for this particular topic …

What MLT Albums/Songs Inspired Recipes can/would you like to share ?! … As I said, listening to the ORANGE, made me think of Creamsicles …. I’m interested in what everyone can share …

Here’s the Muffin Recipe & Glaze Frosting for to go with it :

** Please Note – I’m using the Imperial -Non Metric Measures in the recipe as I don’t use Metric and you’ll have to Google A Measures converter to convert the Measures into Metric **

    CREAMSICLE Flavoured Muffins

YIELD : Makes approximately 14 muffins

    Ingredients:

    ~ 2 1/4 Cups Flour

    ~ 2 1/2 TSP ( teaspoons ) Baking Powder

    ~ 1/2 TSP ( teaspoons ) Baking Soda

    ~ 1/4 TSP ( teaspoons ) Salt

    ~ 3/4 Cup Sugar

~ 1/4 Cup Canola or Olive Oil ( Unsalted Butter as an alternative- softened-melted )

~ 1/2 Cup of milk or Half & Half Light Cream

    ~ 1 Egg

~ 1/2 Cup of either Vanilla Greek Yogurt or Plain Greek Yogurt

~ 1/3 Cup of Thawed Frozen undiluted ( Not from Concetrate) or Pure Orange Juice ( Pure OJ Not From Concentrate in Bottle or Carton Form will work as well as options to use )

** Note the regular OJ in a carton/bottle form from concentrate will also work as an alternative **

    ~ 1/2 TBSP ( Tablespoonful ) ORANGE Zest

    ~ 1 TSP ( Teaspoonful ) ORANGE extract flavouring

~ 1 Cup of White Chocolate Chips

    Instructions To Make :

~ Preheat oven to 350 Degrees Fahrenheit ( 350 ° F ) and Line muffin pan either with muffin cup liners or Grease muffin pan.

~ In large bowl, mix together the Flour/Baking Powder/Baking Soda/Salt

~ In a separate bowl , mix together the Sugar/Oil or Soft-Melted Unsalted Butter, and then mix in the Milk/Egg/Greek Yogurt/Orange Juice/Orange Zest/Orange Extract Flavouring

Gradually add liquid mixture to dry mixture , half at a time for liquid into dry mixture , then add in the White Chocolate Chips

~ Fill each muffin cup 2/3 to 3/4 full

~ Bake at 350°F ( Degrees Fahrenheit ) for approximately 20 minutes , then take out of oven & cool down 5-10 mins before fully cooling off on a rack .

    THE ORANGE GLAZE FROSTING :

    Ingredients:

    ~ 1 Cup of Icing Sugar ( Confectioner’s Powdered Sugar )

~ 1 1/2 Cups ( One and a Half Cups ) of either Thawed or Bottled or Carton of Undiluted – Not From Concentrate Orange Juice ( Conctrated Orange Juice can be used as an Alternative )

~ 1/2 TBSP( Tablespoonful ) Milk or Half & Half Light Cream

~ 2 TBSP ( Tablespoonful ) White Chocolate Chips (slightly Melted for easier mixing )

Instructions To Make ORANGE GLAZE FROSTING :

~ Mix together Icing Sugar / Milk or Half & Half Light Cream/ Orange Juice and let it set approximately 1-15 minutes before drizzling over muffins

** You can Freeze these in Freezer Bags or Freezer Safe Airtight Containers **

** For a smaller batch, I just have used a basic muffin recipe, that I use frequently for my muffin cravings, tweaked it as in — eyeballing the Measures, omitted the white chocolate chips, just added vanilla extract in place of the orange extract and orange zest and this applies to the Orange Glaze Frosting too….

I will say this … Listening to the ORANGE MLT Album while baking/making these and eating… a Truly Groovy #MLTBuzzLuvGroovified YummyTummyfied– Bonafide Tasty Pleaser 😊😉🙃😋🤤🍊🧁🤘👍👌👱‍♀️👩‍🦰

    Hi Jacki

Yeah I remember that brownie cooking video Mona and Lisa did. I think it was the first Christmas Advent they did that. The MLT Club was new, and up until that point I only knew of Mona and Lisa from the youtube music videos and social media posts, and the new MLT Club introduced us all to these two amazing people. And in that video we learned, hey Mona and Lisa can cook too among the many other things they are good at. We got to know the other side of them. It was so much fun and enjoyable getting to know them better.

Hmmm MLT album or song inspired recipe. One that comes to mind is one of my favourite songs on Orange, Sweet Lorraine, and Quiche Lorraine a brunch dish I enjoy. Now I am not much of a cook, and I never made Quiche Lorraine before, so I will have to cheat a little and provide a recipe I found on the internet.

    Recipe:

Quiche Lorraine is a French dish that was introduced to the US in the 1950’s. Quiche Lorraine is THE reason why America fell in love with quiche. It is the gold standard for quiche; essentially a savory tart with an egg, cheese and bacon custard baked in a pie crust.

    How to Pre-Bake the Crust:

For this classic quiche, you’ll need a refrigerated pie crust. You can use a single chilled disk of homemade pie crust or a store-bought pie crust for an even easier quiche. To pre-bake or ‘blind bake’ the pie crust:

Roll the pie crust, transfer to the quiche mold and press in with your fingers. Place in the freezer. Then, remove and poke with a fork. Line with parchment or foil and fill with pie weights.

Remove from the fridge and bake for about 40 minutes or until the crust is lightly golden in color. Then remove the foil with the pie weights and set the quiche base aside.

How to Make the Quiche Lorraine Filling:

To prep the classic quiche filling first you need to render the fat from the chopped bacon by cooking it over medium-high heat in a large skillet, stirring often, then remove bacon with a slotted spoon to a bowl.

Add the diced onions to the bacon grease and cook on medium heat, stirring often until the onions are well caramelized. Remove the onions with a slotted spoon and add them to the bacon. Discard the bacon fat or save for use in another recipe.

Whip up the eggs in a large bowl, then add the rest of the ingredients and whisk together.

If using a tart pan with removable bottom set it into a rimmed baking sheet. Brush the inside with egg white then pour filling into the prebaked quiche base and bake for about 55 minutes or until a knife inserted into the middle comes out clean. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving.

Sprinkle with parsley, cut into wedges and serve. Or cool, then refrigerate until ready to serve.

What Can I Serve With Quiche Lorraine?

A basic quiche is typically served with a side of green salad. This makes it the perfect brunch menu item as the quiche is both filling and delicious, and the greens balance out the rich breakfast tart wonderfully.

Breakfast potatoes are another favorite around here. Make them the night before and reheat them in the air fryer to save some time in the morning.

I guess that’s my cue to re-post my song parody!

“Quiche Lorraine” (to the tune of “Sweet Lorraine”):

The temperature I’ve set at four twenty-five

To pre-heat: not one degree less.

In the ice chest I’ve concluded my quest

For some meat. It’s bacon, I guess.

I’m tired of eating by convention. Too many hamburgers to mention.

Can’t keep this urge on a leash: I would die for a quiche.

With onions and peas, and some eggs and Swiss cheese,

It would seem it ought to be nice.

Completing my plan, to the crust in the pan

I add cream, pepper, salt, and some spice.

This is exactly what I’m after. I feel my heart is beating faster.

A voice deep inside me says “Sheesh, I would kill for a quiche.”

Oh, quiche Lorraine: a pretty nice meal. Just follow the recipe.

Spicy or plain, the taste will make you go insane.

I get out a plate, and I sit there and wait,

Knowing soon I’m gonna be fed.

A fork would be right, but I’m thinking I might

Use a spoon for it instead.

I grab an oven mitt and holder. I cannot wait till it gets colder.

I open the door and I reach, and I pull out my quiche.

Oh, quiche Lorraine: a pretty nice meal. Just follow the recipe.

Spicy or plain, the taste will make you go insane.

      (instrumental break)

My mouth is open and swinging toward the spoonful I am bringing.

My lips are allowing the breach. Now I’m eating my quiche.

Oh, quiche Lorraine: a pretty nice meal. Just follow the recipe.

Spicy or plain, the taste will make you giddy.

Oh, quiche Lorraine: a pretty nice meal. What a gift to humanity.

Spicy or plain, the taste will make you giddy.

Get your fingers sticky. Quiche will make you go insane.

Haha, that’s great David, the lyrics are perfect. I never seen your original post, probably before I joined the club. It would be fun if you could record it with the music. I remember the punk rock group The B-52s had a song called Quiche Lorraine. How I remember that I do not know but I found it on YouTube. (if anyone cares).

Thanks, Tim! Yeah, that was about four years ago. I have a few others collecting dust in the early pages of the forum, including “Spoon”, “I Don’t Know Words That Well”, and “Clothes to You”.

David, those sound like great songs as well. If you could get the MLTs to send you some recordings without the vocals you could record your parodies karaoke style. Weird Al Yankovic made millions doing that.

Well, Weird Al was helped a lot by the fact that he had a band, a commanding stage presence, and a talent for making videos!

      Hi Tim

Great find! I never knew there was a song with that title too. 🤗

Back in the 80s when I worked for a couple years in Toronto in a hydro, the cafeteria in the work place served Quiche Lorraine as one of their main dishes that was really good, so I had that often, so that’s why I thought of it in relation to the MLT song Sweet Lorraine.

Jung , I remember where I know this song from, back in the 80’s I once belonged to one of those record clubs that advertise in magazines, It was called Columbia House. The hook was you could initially buy like 10 albums for like a dollar, then each month they sent you a new album and if you liked it you could buy it at regular price. If you didn’t want it you had a few days to return it, if you didn’t return it you were charged full price. Well they sent me the B-52s album with this song on it. I had never heard of them but I listened to the album and kind of liked their quirky new wave/punk/pop style so I kept it. There was a couple songs on it that I liked but Quiche Lorraine wasn’t one of them, I just remember the name.

That’s brilliant David! John Lennon would be envious. I forgot about your parody. I will have to have some Quiche Lorraine while listening to Sweet Lorraine.

Lol…I’m lije David doing my own versions to songs …only I tend to just conjure up the parodies aspects, while I’m singing song, instead of also writing down what I sung.,..lol… I’ve done with some Glass Tiger songs , eons ago, one weekend when another friend who was a GT fan came over for wknd, I taped the songs on cassette tape, while I conjured on the spot, my friend was laughing so hard got an asthma attack, I peed my pants from laughing after I played back tge tape and somewheres , I think I still gave that cassette tape, and I’ve done a couple of spontaneous MLT ones while listening to them, and ” Sweet Lorraine ” was one of tge songs but I never wrote down what I sung, nor recorded it either…. perhaps David and I could collaborate a duet of parody duetting …. How about It David !? ……lol….I’d have to record myself singing then you could write down what I sung sobtgete’s a paper trail of it….lol…. I can’t multi-task well…. just better off to focus on one thing…, lol
