Legendary Drummer for the Rolling Stones Charlie Watts passed away today. So sad news and such a good drummer and such a great person. He set the standards on the songs by the Rolling Stones. He was laid back in his approach but steady as one goes and never missed a beat! GOD BLESS CHARLIE WATTS in Rock and Roll Heaven…….

That’s sad to hear Bill when we lose one of the greats. I think in many ways Charlie Watts was my fave Rolling Stone. In all the videos old and new he always looked the most calm, cool, and collected, and always had this really pleasant smile while doing the drums. He must have given the band the grounding they needed when things got a little too wild. I am sure he will be dearly missed by the band and all the droves of Stones fans out there.

I had much the same reaction, Jung. I know next to nothing about the Stones as individuals, but I just read an article about Charlie and it sounds like he didn’t buy into the “bad boy” image that some members of the group tried to cultivate. Respect.

David, interesting about Charlie Watts. I think he certainly commanded a lot of respect from his musical peers and fans.

Charlie was always the calm cool collected type of guy thru out the years.

Sad to hear… though I’m not really a Stones fan , some stuff I kinda like but not all of it, I’m more a Beatles Gal persuasion… Yes , from what I’ve been reading, Charlie was the BTS/steer clear of spotlight scene…

So sad when I heard about the passing of Charlie Watts, another of the ‘greats’ has left us. Always appeared to be a gentleman, in every sense of the word.

There is a story about Charlie in Keith’s book. It is a rather famous story that has gained mythological status over the years. It is the one where Charlie punches Mick and I have heard several versions of the story. Just Google ‘Charlie Watts punches Mick’.

Also, I have been studying Charlie’s drumming for years and he was not a power drummer like Bonham or Moon. He was not quirky in his drumming like Ringo. But, what he was was steady and kept time in a song exceptionally well. Very much a dependable and steady drummer. And sometimes that is harder to find than a drummer like Bonham or Moon. Mike.
