When Rudi Tickles the Ivories

I was wondering how the recording went when your Dad was laying piano or bass tracks for a song. Do one of you become the engineer while he’s playing, or is it a shared task? Are there times when one of you is playing with Rudi as he records, so running the board falls to the other during these sessions?
