Well, many songs have that affect on me… too many to list and post YT links of but trust me , they do , songs sung by of course MLT, Patsy Cline, Reba, Vince, Dusty Springfield, Kd Lang, etc , can stirrup tears for me, I feel it’s the combo intertwining of lyrics, the vocal delivery/interpretation, the instrumentation, etc, is what does it for me … I’m a sensitive, emotional, visual person so all the facets I just mentioned above, is the recipe for tears to my eyes in a song I listen to, if it can immediately strike a chord with me , then it’s successful at doing what it is meant to do … We all are receptive, and react differently in our own ways to a song, there is no right or wrong in how it should be received, what matters most is how it affects a person directly …. Yes , while some songs have an intended meaning to convey, etc, it can still be interpretated differently by the listener because to them, it means something different, something beyond what the intended meaning of song is about… within the song, it strikes a chord, for every song, there is something that someone will be affected by it somehow … ☮????

In my elementary school years each grade I was in had a music class day/time, and in Kindergarten, the teacher had an autoharp (like John Sébastian, Mother Maybelle Carter)that I immensely enjoyed her playing, and let us carefully touch, pluck a few strings with care to explore/experience the sound, and I was impressed, must of had an impact to be 53 now and that occurred when I was 5 …lol, and I believe we had a music teacher come in with different instruments, sons to sing when the Kindergarten teacher didn’t play her autoharp …. otherwise, every other year up to Grade 6 before we had to go to a middle school for Grades 7/8, where we had an actual separate music class of it’s own…, getting back to elementary school school music time in class, a music teacher would come in for half hour approx, with a Songbook series we’d sing from , called ” SONGTIME “and whatever Grade you’d be in, that’s what would be used, example “Songtime 4″, and I distinctively and still recall, a bird song we sang.. ” Yellow Bird”-a tropical island type song possibly from Jamaica or Africa, somewheres tropical derivative origins…I also sang in school choir either in Grade 4 /5/6, then again in Grades 7/7/8 ( Yes, I had to repeat Grade 7 )…????????????????

I’m not much of a traveller, or keen on traveling, but I have a few ideas, for song selections…. “My Song ” and ” My Town ” – By Glass Tiger, ” 24 Hrs From Tulsa ” – Dusty Springfield , ” California Dreamin- ” Mamas and Papas, ” and in my country music collections of CDs I have ,as well , that I enjoy, I’m sure there are a few songs too…and many others that aren’t coming to mind at the moment except for ones I’ve mentioned here…but I do have happy memories of the wknd drives and the few times I’ve been to USA for daytrip shopping or a wknd to catch a car race, visiting relatives near Toronto by train, bus, car when I have with family or on my own, going on daytrip /wknd trips to Montreal … I do love tge John Denver/Cass Elliot version of ” Leaving On A Jetplane”, and ” Life is a Highway”- Tom Cochrane …

In agreement with both you both Jung and JP …. There’s just that special, resonating factor magic, when those harmonies kick in, one can’t help but just stop, listen, and/or sing along and embrace the true #MLTBuzzLuvGroovified Hold it takes on ya …. Yeppers, the majority of today’s music, for most part just can’t quite have that affect/effect …and I can honestly say that !!

I also must add Cass Elliot, Dusty Springfield, Patsy Cline to this topic, because of their gifted, distinctive yet versatile vocals that allowed for them to sing in different genres but effectively …

I took flowers to my Mom’s grave today for Mother’s Day and had a Reflective visit, she’s been gone since 1995 ( It’s still Sunday where I am in Canada, so it’s still technically Mother’s Day ) ????☮

Well now going on 15 yrs of being #MLTBuzzLuvGroovified and it’s just impossible for me to pinpoint out just 5, 10, etc., fave MLT songs … I’ll make it simple …. All are equally my faves of/for their own merits and have struck a chord with me for whatever the reasons …lol… but I will say, like Jung, Wide Wide Land huts home personally because lije Jung, my Late Dad suffered from a form of Dimentia- caused by a massive stroke he had a few months after Mom had died, and he suffered subsequent seizures, more stroke like episodes thereafter , and etc, so that song is an example of why it’s a fave…. but as I said, All Are on Eqyal Table with me for their own merits and I simply can’t narrow it down …. this applies to both their Originals/Covers and I’ll leave it at that …????????

Member26/04/2022 at 15:31 in reply to: When you are sad, do you prefer happy or sad songs?Well, it all depends truly on my mood, situation, etc, I do both or not at all…. but generally speaking, I would rather a Happy tune to quickly counteract with sadness as I’m prone to anxiety/panic attacks and the quicker I can fend off the Negativity that can trigger , the better for me yet for whatevercreasons, a sad song could in fact be of more help too, again, it’s all an individual preface, no right or wrong answers just a personal preference case to what works best to ease one through sadness, etc or if not at all, that is fine too….☮

Huh… Counterpoint ?! ..lol…Again…I’m lost and confused-kinda late-to-the party in not knowing the tech point aspects in whatever genre of music when it’s mentioned here… I just know to sense the poetical vibes of songs.. if I like/dislike from get-go but am enjoying reading your replies….I just don’t fully understand/grasp the concepts … forgive my duh-ness in not being able to contribute more in this topic.. wish I was more Music Tech Smart then I am so I could understand/grasp/contribute more commentary to the topic, but alas, I’m just somewhat MusicTech illiterate limited ????
