The Rickebacker and Gretsch in action!

Jacki, all the stuff you list there sound familiar to me, as I had one of those at some time in my life, except for the 8 track. That was slightly before my time and I never got into it, although I remember 8 tracks being sold in record stores along with Cassettes for a while. My Dad had a nice front loading hifi cassette deck with the analog VU meters I use to record a lot of LPs onto Cassettes with which I thought at the time was the future of audio music storage!
I hope the vinyl LPs do make a return, and remain, because putting on a record, aligning the stylus arm over the edge of the record, and gently lowering the stylus onto the record, hearing the static as the needle fall into the groove etc all some how feel a little ceremonial and right to listen to a great classic album like Orange, or Rubber Soul.

Jerry. Older brothers can be awesome, can’t they! I too have an older brother (2 of them) and older and younger sisters too, so I benefited from all their music when they were teenagers. All the 60’s stuff I heard growing up as a kid because of them, and some records I acquired too!
It’s nice to be able to hear the MLT Jukebox through a smart phone, like the old pocket radio again!

Howard, it looks like you take good advantage of technology, old and new, to maximize MLT listening pleasure in your day to day life. From 80’s Luxman turntable to your Blue Tooth helmet speakers when your ride your Moto Guzzi, California 1400 Touring bike!
It looks like you make a mean home made Pizza too!I miss my 02 Mustang with the 6 CD Changer and 6 speakers. It could accommodate almost all the MLT CDs! The new “family” car, despite all the modern technology and back up camera, heated steering wheels etc, has no CD player! I guess they figured no one uses CDs any more so I have to play my music from my smart phone via blue tooth to the car speakers to play music.
Tommy, glad to hear your health is stabilizing and hope you start feeling better soon! There is nothing like the positive effect of MLT music on the soul!
It’s great the record stores are popping up again, and I am seeing more record players in the stores too! There definitely were advantages with LPs like just being bigger and having bigger art work to enjoy, and not to mention the great analog sound. A few years ago I read that CD’s using lasers to burn in signals creating pips in the CD material, have a shelf life of only a few decades. No one knows for sure how long but I’ve had a few CD’s become unreadable for various reasons. When CDs first came out they were touted as being revolutionary and will last forever because there are no needles to wear out the grooves like in a vinyl record, but it looks like the CD material itself can tend to lose it’s signal holding integrity over time. Vinyl records on the other hand, while more susceptible to scratching and grooves wearing out, if properly cared for looks like can last indefinitely like some of my 1960’s records are still surviving. I hope our treasured CDs will last as long. Better hold onto those MP3s too or get vinyl.

When introducing someone to MLT for the first time, you probably wouldn’t go wrong with one of the familiar Beatles Million view club covers like “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” or “Drive My Car”, followed by an original like “Still A Friend of Mine”, and “I don’t Know Birds That Well”. That left a lasting impression on my friends. I posted a few Beatles MLT covers at the Fountain pen Forum where I belong, and “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” and “Day Tripper” enamored some there with the wonderful guitar sounds. A lot of people post youtube music there and it takes something very remarkable to get any kind of response! Gives them a taste of MLTs great singing and guitar playing talent followed by one of their beautiful originals. If it were around Christmas time I’d throw in Little Drummer Boy or one of the other Christmas covers.

That’s a beautiful song by the Kinks and wonderful lyrics. I’m surprised Ray Davies didn’t think it was good enough at the time. I’m glad it eventually got released after much “time”, and thanks Howard for sharing that. I agree there are a lot of wonderful Kinks covers MLT could do that would be great. They nailed “You Really Got Me” so wonderfully!
Time if you think about it can really fascinates, just like the vast universe and all the stars.

Let’s smoke those guitars!

Jerry, do you remember these? Found this in an antique store brand new unopened mint condition a few years ago and works fine. Someone bought this several decades ago and just left it unused in it’s box. Only challenge is finding one of those old 9 volt batteries and and AM broadcast radio station these days that are disappearing. This is exactly like the little pocket radio I had when I was 14.

Tommy, Jacki, and Mike. Thanks for your input.
Mona and Lisa’s music bring us a lot of joy for sure and modern technology today certainly makes it easier for us to take their music with us everywhere. While I really like the convenience of MP3 music files, I hope physical CDs and LPs will always be around. I miss the old record and CD stores and being able to physically pick up an album in my hand and look at the glossy cover and titles. I think when online download stores allow you to just pick and choose a few select song or songs from an album, instead of experiencing the entire album, people are missing out on a whole dimension I think. Can you image Sargent Peppers, and the masses only experiencing 2 or 3 tracks of it instead of the artistic impact of the whole album? It’s like taking a Pizza and picking off the pine apple and pepperoni without experiencing the entire thing with the stringy cheese, crust, and all the other toppings that together make a unique taste and experience.

Well Lisa, regardless of the size of the surf board that was really impressive to go out in that cold water just the two of you to surf for the first time like that. Really enjoyed reading your account of your first surfing adventure while in Australia! Outside of music, you and Mona are so interesting and adventurous too. It’s so wonderful to be able to hear things about your lives outside of music. That’s another great thing about being here at the MLT club. And thanks Howard for asking this great surfing question.

Hugs to you Jacki and Mike. Losing some one you love dearly is the hardest thing in life. I’m glad I found MLT as their music helped to heal with my loss of my mom 3 years ago.
Today I got a text message from a girl we hired as a companion for my mom for several years while my mom was in Palative care in her final years. She said she was graduating as a registered nurse next week and invited us to her graduation and said my mom gave her the inspiration to go on to become a nurse. While I texted her back to congratulate and thank her, I just broke down in tears. I guess some good can come out of even the hardest and saddest of situations most unexpectadely.
And thanks Howard for your words of encouragement.
