Jacki, I had a feeling you would chime in when I started talking about BTO. What music hip kid growing up in Canada in the 70’s/80’s wouldn’t know the BTO experience right? I also like Bryan Adams and songs like Summer of 69. Classic rock and roll sounds there. He actually grew up near where I live and graduated from a high school not too far from mine about 4 years before me in North Vancouver BC. I’ve heard of Tragically Hip a lot, but not really familiar with their songs. Will have to take a listen later. Do you remember Trooper? Another great Canadian Rock band from those days. “We’re Here for a Good Time”, “Santa Maria”, “Oh Pretty Lady”, “Two For the Show”. They did some awesome songs.
I agree with you, any of the great guitar sound songs mentioned, I have no doubt Mona and Lisa could interpret and play on par or better than the original.

Thanks for sharing your story Howard. I know the feeling of listening to Pink Floyd with the volume turned right up high in the dark. Use to listen to Pink Floyd on my dad’s high end stereo (JVC Turn Table, Akai Amp, and some 100+ watt per channel speakers with massive sub-woofers, mid-range and tweeters). Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Shine on You Crazy Diamond, Comfortably Numb etc. They sure sounded awesome and crisp on vinyl through those powerful speakers. Pink Floyd had some great guitar sounds and the sound effects really are something else. I have a feeling Mona and Lisa understand what we are talking about because I believe they are Pink Floyd fans too, but great suggestion about listening to Dark Side of the Moon or Shine on You Crazy Diamond in a black out with head phones, or massive wide open speakers if there is sufficient sound proofing in their place.

What a wonderful poem Jacki, “Essences of Two”. Every word is right on about Mona and Lisa!

That’s a good one Howard. My older brother use to have a rock band when he was in high school, and him and his band use to play BTO a lot, especially “Taking Care of Business” I remember so I have that song engraved in me literally from the high db band practice he use to do on Saturdays when our parents went out. The RCMP came by a few times to tell the kids to turn down the volume. If my mom and dad only knew back then. Maybe a new question idea for Mona and Lisa. Did they have any neighbors complain when they use to practice their electric guitars and drums in Austria growing up? I just couldn’t imagine anyone getting upset with Mona and Lisa for practicing too loud. 🙂

Well Howard, you can never have too many pens is my motto. Of all these I have, my MLT pens are among my most favorite. I think my “The Wide, Wide, Land” mug is starting to get lonely, so time for some more MLT mugs soon.

Are you guys familiar with the band BTO (Bachman Turner Overdrive)? The Guess Who, and BTO were huge in Canada in the 70’s. Not sure how big they were outside of Canada.
BTO’s “Taking Care of Business” has the same kind of vibe as Beatles “Hey Bulldog” MLT covered in BAM3, and would be another nice one with some great guitar riffs. Would make an awesome guitar jamming warm up song for Mona and Lisa.

Beach Boys “Sloop John B” would be a brilliant nautical song. I could just imagine the magic Mona and Lisa could do with this song with their harmonies along the same vein as the incredible “God Only Knows” interpretation they did. “Sail On Sailor” is another nautical Beach Boys song that is very underrated but has a great almost hypnotizing vocals and rythm.
Beatles “Octupus’s Garden” would be a fun one to do. It has some nice guitar riffs in there.

I gave it a try and surprised myself!

Gotta love Adobe with all the creative cool stuff you can do with their products. Had Adobe Photoshop Elements I use to edit pictures with I enjoyed but stopped working after I did my Windows XP upgrade to 8 a few years ago. Been meaning to get a newer Photoshop so I can learn to do the cool things Lisa did with that Halloween picture. ????

Hey Howard. Now do you think surf music might be in the MLT repertoire any time soon? “Surfin Safari in Adelaide” sounds catchy.

Or if not singing about surfing, seeing them ride the surf would be just as good.

Mike, Tomas, thank you both for that. MLT are indeed the hope for the future of rock/pop music as the direction of the current music scene appear to have no direction other than a downward spiral in it’s current trajectory, as many fans of rock/pop have lost interest in it over the recent decades and have gone to other genres, like country, or in my particular case to classical after the early 90’s, or back to the music of the 60’s and early 70’s for others. The music from that time, the Renaissance, is really timeless and that style is as relevant today as it was back then. Stuff from the 50’s pre Beatles you can take it or leave it for me as it all sounds dated, but “A Day in The Life”, “Let It Be”, “Hey Jude”, “Satisfaction”, “Brown Sugar”, “Wild Horses”, “My Generation”, “Time of the Season”, “Good Vibrations” etc the list goes on. They sound as good and inspiring today as they did when they first came out. That is the mark of great music. Mona and Lisa said a great thing in that last big interview with Robert Rodgriguez. What is Beatlesque? The Beatles may have started it, but the Rolling Stones, The Who, The Doors, Bob Dylan etc in the 60’s caught on to it. It is just great music writing that legions of great bands caught on to.
As Mona and Lisa work on their new music right now for their next album, you can be sure they are thinking the same things Paul McCartney talked about, making music to have a positive impact on peoples lives as art, not entertainment which is what popular music of today has turned into.

Howard, I would think Mona and Lisa are both very good pro swimmers by how comfortable they look doing those under water scenes in the video. Is there anything they are not good at doing 🙂 . Will have to check that making of video as they talk about the fish and how impulsive an idea it was. I believe they gave the 2 giant gold fish a nice home in the stream around their place. A lot of ingenuity and video editing/production skill went into creating this impressive video for sure. One of their best.
A Day in the Life is one of my fave Beatles songs next to “Let It Be”. Rolling Stones Magazine elevated “A Day In the Life” to the “best Beatles” song stature, above even “Hey Jude”. The fact it is a true John Lennon and Paul McCartney collaboration effort with John coming up with the original first half of the song and Paul helping and adding the ending is that much more special. That song has a certain mysterious mood that I get when I hear it, and I feel the same thing when I hear “Nothing Is In Vain” too. Maybe that dreamy melody with the voices sounding like they are in a distance. I can’t seem to quite put my finger on it. I feel like I’m floating when I hear them.
I am trying to remember that symphony with the odd intro effect. It’s not a Beethoven one. Soon as I remember, will mention it here.

Reposting here as the original post formatting seemed to have corrupted.
In the recent Paul McCartney interview of 2018, Paul said he was
“…very proud that the Beatles output was really positive.”
This is in reference to some of their songs like Black Bird, Hey Jude, and Let it Be.
Paul said:
“there’s people out there going through problems,….and hopefully people will listen to our music and realize it’s not just me alone going through this…and I can fix it”
Here is a link to the interview:
With MLT’s music, songs like, “The Wide, Wide, Land”, “Nothing Is In Vain”, “No More Worries Company”, “Close to You”, “Once Upon a Time”, “It’s Alright”, “In It For Love” etc… are all very positive leaving the listener with a sense of hope and some insight. MLT music is about making a positive impact on people’s lives which Mona and Lisa take pride in just as Paul McCartney does with their Beatles music. Great artists think alike!
Lisa said:
“But really, the moments I found most fulfilling and “right”, were often reading the emails or comments from people who told us about the effect our music has had on their lives…but we are trying to add as much joy and value to this planet for as long as we can before we check out.”
Mona said:
“Even though we usually play a lot of covers we’ve never been a “cover band” and while we did our fair bit of grinding and collecting hours on sweaty, small stages we’ve always done it to hone our craft and experience the dynamics of live playing rather than for the money…..Because of that we have never not been excited about a gig.”
Pop music today is missing this and listeners today want to go back in time to more positive music too. Mona and Lisa bring a ray of hope and sunshine into people’s lives through their music just as the Beatles music have been for many decades.

I agree with you there Howard. For a cover idea after their orig song writing and album are done, I think To Sir With Love would be a great one. Lisa would do this song incredible justice! I can just imagine too.
