Haha, that’s up to Dad but I feel like that’s VERY unlikely. He very much prefers the version 2.0 šŸ˜‰ We love his old recordings though!

We saw that video! Josh did such an amazing job playing both guitar lines at the same time. It made me sweat watching him pull that off šŸ˜€ I am 99% certain that in the original recording George did an overdub in the studio. It’s one of my favourites so maybe we’ll give it a go sometime … MonaLisa Twins play Beatles & more Vol. 4 maybe? šŸ™‚
First it’s time to finish that original album!

    Hi Lynn!
For Michelle I was copying Paul’s poor pronunciation making it ever poorer šŸ˜‰ I remember Dad and Michaela trying to help me with it (they both learned French in school) but I don’t think I was convincing any natives.

As for Yeah, Yes, Yep, Ja … I never really thought about that. I think we say all those things interchangeable without any reason other than we’ve been saying all these things in German as well (including the yessss). I don’t remember ever saying ā€œAyeā€ in an un-ironic way but I do like how it makes you sound like an Irish pirate … or the speaker of the British parliament šŸ™‚ I think I’ll have to start adding it to my vocabulary …

Ohh, that’s a couple of nice suggestions. They are going on our ā€œpotential cover songsā€ list (which is VERY long!). We’ve never heard ā€œKicksā€ but that’s a top song!
At the moment we’re recording more original music but we’ll get back to doing more covers next year. Thanks for the suggestions.

    Hi JP!
It depends. When I feel like the fretboard is becoming a biohazard I will take off all the strings to give the fretboard a good clean and oiling. Sometimes I’ll do it like you said and replace them one at a time, especially when I’m changing strings on something with a Bigsby or floating bridges (like my Gretsch) and don’t want the pieces to go flying everywhere.

But then, under the tremolo and around the bridge is also where a lot of dust settles that is hard to get rid of without destringing completely.

    I’d say for me it’s probably 50:50.
Oh and if I cut the strings with a wire cutter, I ALWAYS loosen them first. Cutting them under tension is terrible for the guitar and potentially even more terrible for your eyeballs šŸ˜‰

For an original song, I’d probably pick ā€œI Wanna Kiss Youā€. It’s got what feels like a gazillion chord changes and little fills that, whenever we played it live, took quite some time to memorise and make it seem effortless. At the same time it’s got lots of interwoven harmonies which all in all makes it tough to sound tight when performing it on stage.

It’s songs like that which sound rather simple when recorded and that are fun to work on in the studio but become a pain to do live šŸ˜‰

As for covers, ā€œTime Of The Seasonā€ comes to mind with its solo and long outro. I tried to adapt Rod Argent’s organ solo to guitar which was a VERY fun but quite a difficult challenge.

    Hi Andrew,

I see you already found the making-of video šŸ™‚ https://test4.monalisa-twins.com/mlt-club-behind-scenes/

We filmed all around central London and in Brightlingsea Beach (near Clacton-On-Sea) wearing PJs and sporting the messy hair. Oh yes, it was nerve-racking at first but it got easier as the day progressed. We found out that in a metropolis like London 95% of people are so busy trying to make it from point A to B that they won’t even give you a second glance. We got the odd comment here and there but it was all in good nature, and why we were dressed like that was easily explained by saying we were working on an ā€œart projectā€.
And we’re quite happy with how that ā€œart projectā€ turned out šŸ™‚

    Hi Will!
Thanks for saying ā€œhiā€ in the forum, we hope you’ve enjoyed meeting everyone so far! šŸ™‚

If you end up playing any of our songs with your band at the mall, we’d love to see that if there is a way you can film it! We love seeing other people interpret our songs and we always feel very honored. Also thank you for sending us the letter with the article about the Inclusion Jam Project! We love getting snail mail ♄

We applaud you for starting to learn the organ in 2013 – it’s never too late! There are no excuses not to go after your ambitions and have some fun with art and music. We are so glad to hear it’s bringing you joy šŸ™‚

Thank you for supporting our journey and for being groovy,
    Mona & Lisa

    Thanks Bill!!!
I’m glad that’s what you think. I believe the sort of ā€œsynchronicityā€ you mean comes from all the things you mentioned. Us being twins, playing together and knowing each other for such a long time.

We’ve been growing, changing and developing as musicians (and people) together for such a long time and pretty much know each other’s ins and outs to a T. It helps a lot when it comes to actually sitting down and making music together, I believe. I don’t think it’s everything or that you can’t make amazing music with people you don’t know as well but it speeds up the progress and allows us to be honest and smarter about the artistic decisions we make.
It’s good to have a (music) buddy with you through thick and thin šŸ™‚
Thanks for letting our music be part of your life ♄

    Thanks Rick!
Yes, playing that song as a duo is a blast šŸ™‚ When we performed it at the Steve Harley gig I believe we did a similar arrangement but that was a few years ago so I couldn’t say for sure. Our set-up in the studio definitely made it easier to pack a lot of detail into the duo session version. Imitating the choir, figuring out all the guitar licks again … it was a fun project and I’m glad you liked it šŸ™‚ … including the intentionally chosen outfits!

  • Albert isn’t just a world-class musician, he’s also one of the most humble guys we ever met. Opening a show for him was such an honour and to get to see him and Hogan’s Heroes playing up a storm is something we’ll never forget.

His fluid, melodic solo-ing and hybrid picking is what guitarists’ dreams are made of šŸ™‚

Love the clips you chose. He’s known for being the amazing guitarist he is but I also love his singing. He’s got so much ease in his voice! Top guy!

07/10/2020 at 21:26 in reply to: Question on two songs

The longest we ever worked on a song was probably on something off of our debut album ā€œWhen We’re Togetherā€ … Maybe ā€œNothing Is In Vainā€. The better we became as musicians and the more experienced we became in the studio the faster we could get our ideas onto record.

That being said, songs like ā€œOnce Upon A Timeā€ or ā€œIt’s Alrightā€ from ORANGE also took a fair amount of time but that’s because we had changed the arrangements for what felt like a gazillion times šŸ™‚

Many of our cover songs or originals like ā€œCount On Meā€ or ā€œIn It For Loveā€ took us a lot less time as the arrangement and instrumentation was less elaborate.

    Thanks Brian,

You have no idea how much we’d love to share some new music with you. We had every intention of releasing a new original album this year but with all the curveballs 2020 has thrown at us, we’ll unfortunately have to delay it to 2021 šŸ™

But we do have some other things to share with you in the meantime that we hope will bridge the gap a little bit.

We’ll announce it in the Club soon šŸ™‚

    Ohhh, we feel honored šŸ™‚

What a great team effort, this rocks! Thanks for choosing the song and for introducing it to your friends. Love how you’re able to continue jamming over the internet.

And of course also thanks for what you said about us in the beginning of the video. The whole Wagner family sends greetings back to you ♄

    Hi Joe,

I think we’ve played with about 15 different drummers over the years and about half as many bassists šŸ™‚ In Austria and the UK we usually had 1 or 2 bassists and drummers who played the majority of our gigs with a lot of other talented musicians who would fill in whenever needed.

Sometimes musicians moved away, had other stuff going on or we preferred or tried out different lineups. It kept us on our toes and it always slightly changed the sound and dynamics on stage. Everyone has their own unique style and we’ve been lucky to work with a bunch of great guys over the years.
