    Hi John,

Yes, we watched “Get Back” and thought it was incredible. It’s a Beatles fan’s but also a musician’s dream, seeing how they worked, interacted, performed, joked, wrote, communicated and overcame challenges together.

It added so much to their story and legacy, and we can already see ourselves re-watching it in the future.

And to answer your question about whether we can see ourselves in any of them, I would guess that most songwriters can probably relate to their process in one way or another. They were just simply the best at it. They never took themselves too seriously despite taking the craft itself seriously, something we always strive for, too.

There were so many moments we could relate to, especially since their friendship just seemed so much like a family dynamic. There was so much mutual love and respect, even when they were arguing or feeling hurt.

Glad to hear that you enjoyed it too!

    Thanks Tim,

That’s a huge compliment and I do appreciate that you feel that way even though I would never put myself in that league 🙂

It is hard to really say how much comes natural and how much I am conscious of doing while I’m singing. Of course, there is always an “ideal” way I’d like something to sound, and listening back to my own recordings while I am in the studio helps a lot with figuring out what I think I am doing vs. what I am actually doing.

Especially when it comes to phrasing and pronunciation I often don’t realise I am singing things in a strange way until I listen back and then try again. Or someone else points it out. So I guess, as with nearly everything in life, it’s a mixture of nature and nurture.

    Thanks!

    Lisa

    Hi Tim!

Okay, here’s a strange one – I’m a little bit sensitive to touching certain fabrics with my hands. Like, I am not too fond of touching things made out of fleece, velvet or other materials that are considered really “soft” by most people. I don’t know how to best describe it but it feels weird on my fingers and gives me goosebumps 🙂

It was a lot more pronounced growing up and it’s not really a problem these days but something I still notice sometimes. Go figure!

    Thanks for the question!

    Hi Jung,

I love how you talk about your dad and his love for the freedom of just taking to the road and exploring the country. Given his backstory, that must have felt incredible!

It’s beautiful that he passed that passion on to you and your brother.

We’ve never been much into fancy sports or classic cars … except for a short while in primary school, when trading “car cards” was a thing, haha. But I guess we’re quite stereotypical women in that we couldn’t tell you much about fast, fancy motorized vehicles 😉

But as you know, we love campervans! I’d love to own one or even convert a sprinter, or something funky like an ambulance car into a custom little home on wheels one day! With the development of better solar power systems and “van life” becoming more and more popular, being comfortable “on the road” seems to actually be possible nowadays 😛

Dad bought a nifty little van recently that he’s currently fixing up! It’s still in the garage but hopefully we’ll all get to use it next year! For road trips and music related projects … ????

I’ve actually seen some of the videos Thomas Heaton filmed while travelling the UK in his van. He got to some amazing photo locations with it, didn’t he? I know we’ve talked about his channel before but I also found out recently that Dad independently stumbled across his channel through another video about his 4×4 conversion with 8020 aluminium profiles. Funny 🙂

Like we’ve delved into previous forum posts with you, some of our favourite road trips and memories growing up were with our old, orange VW camper. You get to see and experience things which a stay in a nice hotel could never bring 🙂

Last week we posted some photos of a family trip to Pembrokeshire which entailed an amazing road trip too.

We were blasting music for hours, singing, soaking in the scenery, taking photos and simply enjoying the ride through the beautiful countryside.

I never really mind long trips to shows, or during a tour. We usually come up with silly games to play, or use it to talk or relax a bit.

We wish you many more memorable trips!

… I really don’t know ???? But I definitely found the headstock intriguing!

We borrowed the guitars from friends in Lanzarote during our stay there and only used them for the video. It’s not the guitars we later used in the recordings, Mona playing a nylon string guitar in the video might be a give-away there 😉

(Fun fact: we shot the video before we had the song fully recorded yet.)

    Hi Bill,

    Maddie is the cutest ☺️

I guess that completely depends on the type of lessons and whether they are “suited” for an 8 year old. We really don’t know much about singing lessons, having only taken them briefly in our teens. We were never big fans of them, but that doesn’t mean that they’re not great for other people.

I love that you’re trying to nurture her enthusiasm for singing, so if she wants to take lessons, I don’t see why not.

    Hugs to you both!

    Hi Rick!

We’re lucky to have quite the collection of guitars by now, mainly thanks to the amazing late Steve Many of which we don’t use on a regular basis (like in the studio or for practice) but that come in perfect for situations like these … When the guitars need to match the outfit ????

Yes, I’m aware we are incredibly spoiled in that regard!!

The purple guitar Mona is playing is a 75th Anniversary Rickenbacker model that Steve sent us many years ago that we treasure so much to the point where we don’t even dare play it haha. It is so stunning! But it looked perfect with Mona’s “Queen” outfit, so we decided to let it have a special appearance.

The white Epiphone is another guitar that was gifted to us by an incredibly generous fan a few years ago! It’s an Epiphone “Wildkat”. You might remember this Facebook post from a long time ago.

When we say we have the best fans in the world, we truly mean it 😉

    Thanks for the congrats!!

    Have a groovy day ♥

    Hi Diana!

We have thought about that ourselves and you’re right, that would be interesting but on the other hand we think that especially in times like these we should be very careful sharing sensible information on the internet. We’d have to ask everyone at least whether they’re comfortable with that first.

However we can certainly give you a general picture. I’d say that Americans are definitely most represented here and I’m sure you’ve noticed that the ladies are in the minority. But we’re just happy for whoever is here, no matter the demographics 🙂

You know how much we appreciate your generous donations, but of course we’d answer your questions regardless!! Thank you for your support and generosity and have a groovy day!

    Hi Jeff!

We still have that beautiful Resonator guitar and used it again on a new album track just a few weeks ago. It’s not something I play a lot but it comes in incredibly handy for adding slide guitar to recordings. It was a gift from Steve, who I think you know about 🙂

It definitely was tricky to get the hang of slide playing and we both had to invest a bit of time into learning the basics.

Like I said, it’s not something we use an awful lot so we’re no pros by any stretch of the imagination but it’s fun to try and make it work in a song from time to time.

    Hi Glenn!

Glad you caught the Duo-Jet Bug! I love mine and I’m happy you like yours too. Personally, I don’t use a lot of pedals. At live shows I go into a Vox ToneLab ST pedal, where all I do is add a little compression, a bit of reverb and that’s usually it.I mainly use it for easy volume control. For most sets I don’t use any major effects and would even get away with plugging straight into a good Vox amp 🙂

In the studio I do sometimes play around with different plug-ins, but even there, less is often more for the kind of sound we’re going for.

    What’s your preferred set up?

I love that you’re running your own guitar shop and wish you all the best,

    Lisa

23/11/2021 at 18:19 in reply to: Video Recorder Help

    Hi Walter!

We’ve used a whole lot of camera equipment over the years and have updated a lot of stuff as time went on and technology improved. But at the moment our “main” camera is the Sony A7 III. It’s been the main “work horse” for our Duo Sessions and music videos.
We like to use Sony’s compact camera “RX-100 V” for vlogging and “behind the scenes” filming and also find ourselves using our iPhones 8plus a lot for that.

Live recordings are a whole different story as you need A LOT of cameras if you want to get many cool angles and we always used everything in our arsenal for those. But since it’s been a while that we’ve filmed a whole live concert and since we’d use different equipment these days (as cameras keep improving), it probably doesn’t make much sense to dive into that.

Hope that helps! Let us know if you have any other, or more specific questions.

    THANKS and stay groovy!

27/10/2021 at 00:51 in reply to: We are not the same

Oh how our parents would have wished for at least one of us to be the organised one ????

It is really interesting that your daughters had such different characters. We also knew twins that were the polar opposite of one another but that was never the case for us.

While there are definitely a lot of differences in character between the both of us I would still say we are more alike than not, compared to most people.

Since it doesn’t boil down to easy things like one being messy, one being organised for us it would take quite a lot of analysing and writing to get our character differences across here, which might be too big of an essay for a reply here.

A short, humble attempt: Mona is a bit more outgoing than me, I am a bit more “in my head” sometimes, while Mona has a very creative chaoticness about her, she still often has a structured approach to things, while I work my way through a mess until I find creativity through the process, I’m a bit more of a “feeler”, she’s a bit more of a “thinker” but all in all I think we do balance each other out quite nicely.

And we share the vast majority of interests and hobbies which is pretty cool to have in a sibling and “business partner” 🙂

Hope that gave you a bit of insight!

    Hi John,

We get a lot of great requests everyday and love that people think of songs that they believe would suit us. We have a list of potential songs we might give a go and we sometimes add people’s suggestions to it, if it’s one we really like and haven’t thought of yet.

In the end we simply chose the songs that we love the most!

But of course, there are many things that also play a role in our decision-making to various degrees: Whether we resonate with the song, whether we think we could make the song our own, whether it works for a Duo Session / Full Arrangement (depending on what we’re trying to record at the time), whether we have a special personal relationship to that song, whether we really like the message/lyrics of the tune, whether we think it would do well on YouTube or be an MLT Club song only, whether we’re intrigued by the challenge of covering it, whether we’ve covered the artist before or want to try something new, etc. etc. etc.

There isn’t really one “recipe” we go with, when it comes to picking these songs. The most important thing is that we feel excited about the idea of covering that tune. If we do, then it’s usually a fun process and we’re happy with the outcome 🙂

    Hi Dale,

We very much forgot about this photoshoot, maybe because we purely did it for the reason of making a fun website header. But you’re right, we’ve never shared any of the pictures from it, not even here in the Club or on Social Media.

We’ll have a look at the single frames again, maybe we can put together a little Tuesday post (no promises though). 🙂

    All the best ✌️

Ohhhh, that warms our hearts! Your mom sounds like a lot of fun!

We haven’t seen Mike since before the lockdowns but we’re keeping in touch. He was one of the first 5 people we met once we set foot in Liverpool all those years ago, and we’ll always remember and be grateful for how welcome he made us feel.

Which unfortunately isn’t represented by our vinyl collection, as I don’t think we own any The Scaffold records :-O We’ll have to change that eventually!
