Hi Tim! Whenever we’ve made big decisions like the ones you mentioned (dropping out of school, moving to England, quitting Cavern etc.) it was always the obvious next thing to do (for the 4 of us). We’re all so tuned into what we’re trying to do here that we don’t really have to convince each other to make bold steps. Dad and Michaela have taught us and lived by that ever since we can imagine. They were never “conventional” people and from the moment we decided to create “MonaLisa Twins” as a family, everyone put their heart and soul into it. So every “bold” decision in the past seemed like the right thing to do for all of us. Believe me when I say that they were the first to bring up many of the craziest (but in the end most worthwhile) ideas haha. To say we’re lucky to have parents and friends like that is an understatement 😉

Love some of Badfinger’s music! We first became aware of them when watching the movie “The Magic Christian” (with John Cleese, Peter Sellers and Ringo Starr). During the “Money scene” we heard this song “Come and Get It” and thought it sounded an awful lot like a Beatles song! Only later did we find out that Paul McCartney actually wrote it! 🙂

If we ever gave one of their songs a go, I’d probably pick something off their Debut Album but thanks for introducing me to “Baby Blue”. Great harmonies, like on so many of their tracks!
Pete Ham – such a tragic loss, thanks for reminding us of his story

We have hard disks full of old stuff like that, that we’d love to do something with one day 🙂 At least the MLT Club now gives us an excuse to dig through the archives a bit more. Would be fun to find the earliest performance ever! Bear with us as we will dig out more and more fun stuff from the past to share with everyone here 🙂

Pheeew, that was so long ago. It was definitely the first song we ever finished that had a “proper” beginning and end. I remember writing songs before but as far as I can recall, they all didn’t really follow any real … structure haha. So we went from one “part” to the next without ever repeating anything 😉 Guess we started off more avant-garde haha
So yes, Alone was the first song with a proper song structure.
I think the first time we/I performed it was in the States at an Open Mic and I was so nervous that I actually broke into tears as soon as I finished!!! I tell the story here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mquSae6K3xE (min 2:00)

Probably one they never performed live. Simply to hear them do it. How great would the Abbey Road Medley be! I’d play the tambourine for all I care 😉

    Hi Tim,

Hard to pick a favourite Beatle. For me it was the combination of 4 so distinct, yet close personalities that made the Beatles so insanely likable. None of their solo careers captured my interest anywhere close to how they did as a group. I find that quite fascinating.

The hair colours sort of … happened. We always played around with different hair styles and at some point I dyed my fringe red and Mona made hers blonde. Then over the years it sort of escalated 😉

And we definitely have our differences and argue from time to time but as we all know … life is very short and there’s not time, for fussing and fighting my friend 🙂 We both feel very lucky to have each other as friend, sister AND musical partners!

Personally, I love Joni’s music. “For The Roses” and “Blue” are amongst my favourite albums of all time. I wouldn’t be able to say whether or not she influenced our music directly but with everything in life, the things you like are bound to rub off on you one way or the other.

Would be interesting giving one of her songs a go one day. Definitely a new kind of challenge 🙂

(and yes, the buckinghams would be tempting to try too!)

For the next months we want to focus more on writing new songs however 🙂

Well, you wouldn’t believe HOW difficult it is to come up with something that isn’t yet taken. When you get frustrated, frustrated enough and smash your head into the keyboard a few times … Woolgoose Records appears 😉

  • “Nothing Is In Vain” was one heck of a project that all in all took us many months to finish! In general, videos like the one we did for “Morning Has Broken” are fairly easy to do in comparison 🙂

Don’t worry John, no offence was taken at all 🙂 We’re just glad you’re here and passionate about the same things as we are! We appreciate everyone’s input and support! We’re still getting into the groove of how to best go about things here and time management is going to play a big part. Finding the right balance between forum time, producing new content, etc.
But we’re excited to make it all happen and turn this into the grooviest place on the internet 😛

At least for the time being we have decided to focus more on new videos and music rather than playing live but when the time comes and we put another show together, London is high up on the list!

The plans for the next year aren’t set in stone yet, and we’ll let you all know if live dates come in.

Hi Paul, I mainly play a Gretsch Duo Jet (with DynaSonic pickups). I’d rather try to avoid effects pedals, because most of the time I like the raw, unmodified sound of my guitars better. For most live situations I just use a Vox Tonelab ST effects pedal for nothing more than a little compression, reverb and volume control and then go straight into a Vox AC30. That’s proven to be a simple yet effective set-up for most of our live shows 🙂

Hi John, our parents definitely played a lot of great music around the house when we were growing up but we didn’t full on “discover” the Beatles until we were about 13 years old. I mean, they were part of the mix of music that was being played in our household as the radio was nearly always on, but we didn’t really pick up on them consciously until we hit our teenage years.

During our childhood there were always musicians and instruments around (due to Dad running his recording studio at the back of our house) and genre wise we were exposed to pretty much anything you can imagine. So we were definitely fascinated and interested in music from the start.

But it wasn’t until we came across the remastered Beatles mp3s on our dad’s computer that their music stopped us in our tracks. I think sort of “discovering” them ourselves helped even more to make us fall heads over heels in love with their music. The fact that it became truly “ours”.

Dad has definitely started and nurtured our fascination with music, made us want to learn how to play instruments, we always sang and recorded together, etc. He shaped our taste and ear for music and taught us so much about songwriting and recording.

And through our obsession with the Beatles when we were 13 we also brought back his love for them and the rest is history haha. We’ve been making music together now for more than 10 years and wouldn’t want it any other way 🙂
