Meanwhile on Facebook, “Walking in Air” outpaced all other Christmas videos. From Dec 7 to Dec 29, WIA went from 117,000 to 228,000 views (nearly 5000 views per day). “Drummer Boy” had 65,000 views in that period (2800 vpd) and “All I Want Christmas to Be”, jumped about 10,000 views (430 vpd).

For non Christmas songs “I Bought Myself a Politician” had, by far, the most action with 180,000 views (7800 vpd from 12/7 to 12/29). It’s jumped another 65000 views in the last week which would seem to indicate that everyone who was watching their Christmas videos has switched to IBMAP. At it’s current pace it could reach 1,000,000 views sometime in March. As much as 75% of the views of all MLT videos on Facebook appears to be IBMAP now that Christmas is over.

  • The MLT cover of HTaE is creeping up on a million views (maybe in 2022). It is currently the most watched cover of this song on YouTube. However a cover made last year by Josh Turner Guitar will likely surpass it sometime next year (he has three times as many subscribers).

When I made my declaration that Mona is my favorite musician, I neglected to state my reasons. I thought I should correct this omission, and this seemed the best thread to do so.

First of all, what drew me to MLT was the fact that they play multiple instruments. And not just two or three, but at least ten (combined). They decide a certain instrument needs to be featured in one of their music videos and one or the other takes it upon herself to learn that instrument. But they aren’t like the jack of all trades who is master of none. They are, in fact masters of at least some of the instruments they play.

Now, at this point, I could say that I have a preference for drums over other instruments and that would make Mona my favorite, but most of us know (even though I have yet to see it) that Lisa can also play the drums. In fact, it is my belief that, although we might recognize Lisa as the best lead guitarist and Mona is the best percussionist, either twin could, if they took the time, could be just as good as their sibling at whatever instrument they chose.

So, with that being said, my reason for choosing Mona over Lisa is really just one of those intangibles that can’t really be explained. But I can’t deny that it exists.

Ultimately, of course, it doesn’t matter, since I can’t imagine Mona without Lisa and it is the two of them together that makes them stand out among the thousands of musicians that vie for our attention.

  • David, they are listed chronologically and also by type (Duos, Beatles covers, originals, etc). Unfortunately, I can’t sort them by view counts.

  • There is actually quite a mix, David, with some Facebook videos outpacing their YouTube counterparts and vice versa. “Still a friend of Mine” is MLT’s second most watched video on FB with 2.6 million views and yet it is still below half a million on YouTube. On the other hand, “I’ll Follow the Sun” has passed a million views on YouTube, but on FB it has only 35,300 views! By the way, I was wrong: “This Boy is Mine” was the second MLT original to reach a million views on FB (currently at 1.1 million), so “Close to You” will be their third.

I will work on compiling some Facebook video view stats over the next month or so. “Wish You Were Here” is their most viewed FB video with 3.8 million views. Unfortunately, Facebook rounds off to the nearest 100,000 once a video reaches 1 million so it might be difficult to estimate when that particular video will reach 4 million.

  • Hey, David, I was just about to mention that “When I’m 64” is closing in on 3,000,000 views. thanks for pointing that out.

Here’s another milestone to watch: “Close to You”, an MLT original, is at 953 thousand views on FaceBook. I believe it will be their second original to reach one million views. I don’t have any idea right now how soon this will happen, but I’ll be watching it from now on. Perhaps David would like to take his analytic skills over to FB, as well.

I’ve learned that Advent can be a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to seeing what MLT has planned for this year.

Next up is 1 billion seconds, a few months before their 32nd birthday. I passed 2 billion a couple years ago.

  • “Til There Was You” passed 900,000 views today. Although the number of views per day has gone down since my original post in April, it is still the most likely to be MLT’s 20th YouTube video to surpass 1 million views. The other 4 on my list have already reached that milestone.

Meanwhile, “Please, Mr. Postman/Wipeout” and “Wish You Were Here” are in a tight race to 2 million views.

Welcome to the club, Glen. Normally you would have received several welcomes from various club members as well as from one of the twins, but I think they were thrown of by the simple birthday greeting and didn’t realize you were a new member.

  • I think this is a close as I’m going to get. The next update should put it over.

  • Okay, finally a jump to 999,939

  • I’ve been stuck at 999,900 for the past half hour. I think YouTube has stopped counting my views and updating my view of the viewcount. I assume Hotel California has passed 1 million by now.

  • 999,574. Less than 24 hours to go.

I shared this with the twins when I joined the club last year.
