Thank you Jacki. What is interesting too from this discussion is how much people like this song! It’s great but seems to sneak under the radar against others on the album.

I guess it speaks volumes about the quality of ‘Why?’ when ‘Destination Sunrise’ is relatively overlooked compared to others.

Thanks Johnnypee. Your comment – “Each time I read a different interpretation from someone, I tend to agree with them and hear the song in a whole new light” is spot on for me also. Maybe if we keep going “Finally someone might get it?” or maybe the real fun is not knowing for sure 🙂

I love reading everyone’s interpretations of this very interesting song. Each persons view is valued and adds different dimensions to my own thoughts. This song is a great piece and I thank everyone for their replies

Thanks Jung for your thoughts. Your description of driving on the open roads with the sun shining and the feeling of freedom sounds lovely. It’s usually raining here! 🙂

The song strikes me as a ride towards the light ‘leaving behind the game’ which is intriguing as is the line ‘We’re not gonna play with their loaded dice’. The participants in this landscape are definitely happy to leave that behind and travel ‘One direction, taking no reminders and saying farewell without shedding tears’. Goodbye past

Then the open road liberation and the brand new start, a brand new chance, breaking free and making dreams come alive despite ‘something being broken that will not survive’? What is that?

A brilliant song again from the superb ‘Why?’ album. Semi autobiographical? Words are always interpreted differently by whoever is reading them and this album is another big step forward by these very talented people

The Eurovision Song Contest isn’t really a competition. It’s become more about politics than the quality of the music. As previously mentioned Cliff Richard took part twice 1n 1968/1973 and did quite well. That wouldn’t happen now. No serious artists in their right mind would put themselves forward and risk irreparable damage to their reputations by taking part. As I said earlier politics play a massive part now which is a shame because it was worthwhile years ago

You are absolutely right Jung. My worry is I still see a mass of BS all around me every day in the so called “news”. ‘Why?’ asks so many questions, and we are not anywhere near out of this nonsense that surrounds us. This album is 3 people raising their heads and seeing and saying what a lot of us think. A superb work on many levels

Hi James. As you can imagine Liverpool is all things Beatle and almost done to overkill these days. Albert Dock is a good place to go with Art galleries and interesting museums as well as plenty of shopping. You might enjoy a ferry trip over the Mersey and a walk in the Wirral. There’s the Radio City Tower, if it’s still open which sits high above the city. You used to be able to have a meal up there while the restaurant rotates. Don’t worry it doesn’t go quick! A bit further afield is Port Sunlight Village which is lovely. A few years ago I took my son to a stadium tour of the home of Liverpool FC, Anfield. This was very interesting seeing behind the scenes of one of the best football teams in the world. There is much much more, I’m just touching the surface. Best wishes, Steve

I don’t believe it to be a generation thing tbh. If it is good it will last for sure, FOR generations! My kids and I know so many people who love the 60’s and 70’s music. It had substance. Many bands still tour based on these years. We’re seeing the Manfred’s next month. The stuff on this video is candy floss and will disappear without trace. I believe music died certainly in the UK in the 1980’s. Maybe it was different elsewhere but it died here. Steve

Oh blimey. How do people listen to this stuff? I’m glad I’m an old timer 🙂

Thank you Sara. I totally agree. Art and words are interpreted differently whoever you are and there is no right or wrong. That is why this work is so good it is open to opinion. In fact if Lisa and Mona just came out and told us their thoughts that would spoil it! 🙂

I’ve always been interested in lyrics/cover art and trying to understand where the artist is coming from. It seems as you and I Jung share this. Thank you for your thoughts. They are very interesting and I’m sure you are right that if enough people raise their heads and ask Why? the Dystopian vision of the future staring at us on the sleeve need not happen. I like the idea of the people going in the opposite direction as maybe having meaning but it’s not clear to me yet. Thanks again

Thank you so much Francis & Jung for your your thoughts. So very interesting.

Sadly I am old enough to remember “99 Red Balloons” by Nena 🙂 It’s a great song and had a peace theme I believe. Must check the lyrics out. Also Lisa has one in ‘Songbird’. Wonder if there is anything in this?

Totally agree with every word of what you say Jung. It was interesting about the Lanzarote inspired landscape. I hadn’t thought about that. Also the alien which being reasonably new I didn’t know about! I will check this out too

A section of the cover that is puzzling me is the section with the aforementioned alien in, the section below the earth. Maybe it’s obvious but any thoughts?

As a last thought, I wondered if the picture was of hope or certain fate? The man with the red balloon is certainly in the minority

Thank you so much Jurgen for your thoughts. That is so interesting. I do agree with you. There are so many things happening in this picture of note. The right hand half of the city on the scorched earth side seems to be burning whereas the other side isn’t? The red balloon is a symbol of love I think? The man seems to be looking towards the side where the city is burning? The ‘Jumped Ship’? It is a wonderful thought provoking piece of work!

Thanks Tim. ‘Songbird is such a lovely song. I think it follows a similar theme to ‘Destination Sunrise’ in that it’s about leaving. The difference possibly being ‘Sunrise’ seems to be a wish to leave quickly at speed to get away and leave something behind without regret to find a new beginning, whereas ‘Songbird’ seems to be a thought through, measured approach to leaving and following your heart to reach your destiny. ‘Beak’ could just be metaphors for ‘nose or ‘Instinct’?

Both could be autobiographical or maybe not. They could simply be about a road trip and a bird that can sing! Only 3 people know for sure but what superb writing

Hi Jung. I totally relate to the last paragraph of what you say. Poetry/words/song lyrics/art has always resonated with me too. I don’t know why and I don’t profess to be an expert in any, but there’s something inside me that when I see or hear something I want to know where it’s coming from.

Interpretation is the key word. A few years ago we visited ‘The Louvre’ and stood there before Da Vinci’s masterpiece. It was crowded but nobody moved. People were rooted to the spot, each in their mind seeking their own interpretation and meaning. They would all be different

We were all born with imaginations but with tech sadly we don’t use them as much these days.

‘Destination Sunrise’ allows all of us to stop what we are doing and go on a trip somewhere fantastic and we’ll all end up somewhere different for sure….

Thanks Tim. There’s nothing quite like the vinyl album sleeve I agree. You won’t be disappointed for sure! I look forward to your thoughts
