  • Jung,
there’s no need to apologize for seeing similarities betweem musical genres.
You help make this forum classy.

Alles Gute zum Geburtstag Herr Wagner !

  • Ditto!
    Nothing else sounds listenable.
Some people might like the Celtic Woman version.
I never knew about the George Winston version.

    Everyone,
would it be ok to see them in a small club once before they move up to a football stadium?

I would hate to see them invest in a sound system like the Rolling Stones or the Grateful Dead until
they had one successful trip over here.
    Just saying.

  • I could not possibly agree more about The Twins vs that schoolboy soprano on “Walking…”.

To be fair, i heard the MLT version 1st.
But they put everything else to shame.

    Hi Will,
i believe that sizing a venue properly is sort of a chicken & egg problem.
It’s probably better to think small and turn people away than to play to empty seats.
Maybe play at a club all weekend.

I wonder how big the cavern club is.
    Well it looks like …
    Fully Seated 150 – 170. Standing & Seated 200 – 250.

  • Guns.n.Roses sound like they wrote it.

  • All of this makes me wonder if artists have favorite covers of their songs.

The Twins got a plug from Townsend and Daltry for My Generation.
I can’t think of any other examples.

  • I agree that Desire and Blood on the Tracks were Dylan’s best vocal efforts.
But it’s often refreshing to hear someone else sing his songs.

    Even croaky Stephen Stills

    A great idea Jeff.
But maybe we wouldn’t like the 2nd copy as much.
    Let’s just give them time.
We all have a long way to go.
    Cheers

  • Jung, et al,
I think we tend to favor what we hear first.
We don’t always hear the original first.
    (or at least i don’t).

But there are some truly great 2nd versions.
BlackBerry Smoke joining Bob Weir on Deep Elem Blues just floors me.
EVERYTHING they do that you’ve heard before is special.

In most cases i think the Twins have done a great job of applying a fresh coat of paint.
That was the idea behind N.A. Classics.

The very few exceptions IMHO are the songs that have been covered enough already.
Both Sides Now, Johnny B. Goode, Hotel California.
(The Eagles have four versions of Hotel California).

But even then there are exceptions.
Here Comes The Sun is great.
I would have never suggested “Yesterday” but Lisa nails it.
And everyone and his brother has recorded “Yesterday”.
    Well except for Mike McGear.

    Cheers

    Jung, regarding the Yardbirds,

Did you notice it was Jeff Beck on lead guitar in the black&white portion and
Jimmy Page in that purple & lavender outfit in the color version ?

A heat shield is needed before a parachute is functional.
    I never thought that through.

It astonishes me that a parachute works on Mars.
