Nothing spectacular just the Canadian Pacific Railways Holiday Train stopping in Sparta WI tonight. They have been coming through for around 10 years. They stop and do a show for about 20 minutes or so. I’ve gone in the past but didn’t go tonight. My niece to these photos. I think they make the trip across the northern part of the US and then make the return trip across southern Canada. It’s a nice thing they do and usually draws a good crowd.

Sometimes it’s the reactions of the crowd that makes a great live performance. I love this live album of AC/DC but the videos are incredible, a huge crowd enjoying every note. Kind of bittersweet though for me seeing Malcolm Young jamming knowing he was suffering from the early symptoms of dementia and his career was nearing it’s end. Anyway a great performance from the band and crowd in River Plate Argentina.

Happy Holidays to you Leif and all the MLT Club. The Christmas season begins in my small Wisconsin town when it opens the Kriskindlmarkt. It’s a small village of German styled shops plus a band stage that sells food, beverages and many gifts and crafts. It’s the center of activity every weekend leading up to Christmas.

Jung, here’s an old song I remember that has a good bass track but not so much by the bass guitar but by the bass vocals. I remember two records by Australian mega star Olivia Newton John that featured a bass singer, this one and If You Love Me Let Me Know. I did a little search to find the singer Mike Sammes recorded the vocals for these two records. Interesting note, his group The Mike Sammes singers also recorded background vocals for The Beatles “I Am The Walrus”, “Good Night” and did vocals on the Let It Be album. Besides a few popular quartet singing groups like The Oak Ridge Boys or The Statler Brothers, I really can’t think of many pop songs that feature a bass singer. It maybe an interesting area to explore. Anyways, here’s a good recording of Olivia’s song “Let Me Be There”.

David, this is a good one to share on Thanksgiving. No one writes and sings with more passion than Beth Hart and this song basically says thanks for everything.

Happy Thanksgiving to every MLT Club member. Even if you don’t celebrate the holiday, you can still give thanks for the things you have and people you love. You can also have turkey and pie, heck there’s no law.

That’s a good story, I like seeing the graffiti painted on the box cars passing through. There are some very good spray can artists out there. I can’t think of a better name for a railroad than Grand Funk. I was just thinking about train songs too. I think my favorites are Train, Train by Blackfoot and I like Mystery Train by Elvis.

Chris, it was headed west into the Dakotas and then into western Canada. It started in Maine so I’m not sure if it came through Michigan. I did find out there are two trains, One going across the US and western Canada and the other stays in Canada.

I see that now Chris, there are 4 picture posts between those dates but no personal photos. I wish there was a way for Facebook to stop this kind of activity. I don’t follow too many celebs on facebook but the ones I do follow all have problems with hackers. I try to report and block as many as I can but there are so many and new ones popping up everyday.

I agree that Gaga is way over the top on this live performance. I guess that’s what she does, I really don’t know much about her. I like the sound of the studio version better than this live video. I think her vocal track is lower on the studio version. I prefer her vocals in the background as opposed to equal as Mick’s or even above his at some points. I always liked Mick singing with Lisa Fischer on Gimme Shelter and would have rather heard her on this song. I do think the live video shows how Mick can still get it done at 80 years old which is amazing. Having a new Stones album and new Beatles single at the same time is kind of cool though.

Chris, I did notice in the last day or so that much of the old content is now available on the Facebook page. I don’t know if it has been restored by Facebook or Mona and Lisa have reposted things themselves. I don’t even know if that’s possible but I have seen a lot of the old pictures have been restored.

Daryl, I’ve only heard about half of it but I like what I’ve heard. I actually love the duet with Lady Gaga “Sweet Sounds of Heaven”. Stevie Wonder also plays on that track. Her and Mick singing together is a great sound. Here’s a video of them doing the song live in New York City. A great performance.

Daryl, I was a big Rush fan and their turning point from a local garage band to a mainstream rock band came when Neil joined the band. He became the chief lyricist and gave their music a direction. There’s no denying his remarkable talent as not only a drummer but percussionist. Even after all his success he never considered himself a great musician and kept learning his craft. He went through some serious tragedies when his daughter was killed in a car accident and the same year his wife died from what Neil said was a broken heart. Neil left and the band stopped at that point. He went on an extended motorbike ride of over 80,000 miles through the U.S, Mexico into South America. He said he didn’t care anymore and Alex and Geddy let him have his space and the time to heal. Eventually he found peace and rejoined his mates. Also, Rush never gave in to the pressure of producing hit records. Their music remained their very own personal art.
Here’s a cool video of Rush before Neil joined the band. They are playing at a school auditorium in St. Catherines, Ontario. About 20 years old with original drummer John Rutsey.

Chris, even the recordings done for TV, Movies, radio and records were recorded live until Les Paul developed multi track recording in the 40’s and 50’s. Being able to play and sing along side recorded tracks and layer sounds and vocals really changed the game in recorded music.

Jung, Thanks for the Bread song. I forget about them but they were a good band with a lot of good songs. Now I’ve got to go listen to the song Guitar Man.
