Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Daniel! I agree that we need to be careful about using this space to promote other artists and getting away from the Twins, who have invested their time, energy and money into this Club.
There’s a fine line between promoting someone and comparing Nancy Wilson and Lisa. I’m fine with your mentioning a female guitar player by name you believe is better than Lisa. The Twins actually invited Amy Slattery, who has done more than a hundred Beatles covers to perform with them at the Cavern. They realize there is other talent out there and that their biggest fans- like the ones here- appreciate other good music and talented artists as well.
I actually think it’s necessary to compare and sometimes mention names to make interesting posts that people will want to read. When and if I cross the line with that, other posters like yourself will help me see it and for that, I’m appreciative. -
Best is often a shortcut for favorite. George Harrison wasn’t nearly as good technically as a number of guitar players but simply by being in the position of having the opportunity of being the guitar player who came up with the riffs for I Feel Fine, Day Tripper, Ticket to Ride, etc.- his work is highly regarded by almost everybody.
Lisa may not be as good technically, she may not be as fast- but her guitar playing always impresses. Her versatility between electric and acoustic, her ability to give each song exactly what it needs- she is certainly my favorite!
Does that make her the best or is there any argument that can be used that says she’s the best? The Twins have recorded 90 plus songs- many live, many in the studio and I have never heard her play anything that didn’t seem perfect to my ear.
You said that there are many phenomenal female guitarists. I’m sure you are right. I believe Lisa is one of them.

Did You Ever Have To Make Up Your Mind was always one of my least favorite hits by the Spoonful. The vocals seemed muffled and I never bothered to look up the lyrics because the song didn’t appeal to me quite enough so I always missed their humor.
The new version is wonderful. No, John doesn’t have voice he had when he was younger but it’s not a problem for me. His vocals are fine. I think the Twins had a little trouble adding their background vocals- it certainly isn’t the perfect harmony we’re used to from them. It’s more background than one might have expected. But the production is so crystal clear. The music radiates. Lisa’s guitar work is spectacular. Good for you, John Sebastian!! I am also betting that’s Rudolf singing the part of the dad! -
Count me in as being very interested. Great questions, Rich!

Lisa asked me who I thought sang lead on each song for Orange so I’m going to take a shot at it. Mona on 64, Maxwell, Best Years. Glass Onion, You Really Got Me. I’m not very good at this. Obviously watching videos gave it away a few times.
Mona is the best harmony vocalist I’ve ever heard. She just enriches Lisa’s voice so much! God Only Knows and Morning are great examples of that. Simon and Garfunkel eat your heart out, there’s a new sherriff in town.

It is FANTASTIC!! I’ve stopped rechecking posts where I’m already up-to-date completely. It saves time and when my connection is kind of slow it’s wonderful. You also added a “last post” function off to the right that works perfectly. Thank you so much- believe me your efforts to make this forum work so well are being noticed! Also, congratulations on the wonderful job of producing/engineering you did with BAM 2 and 3. You did an incredible job!

Listening to You Really Got Me and talk about a grand slam home run! Hey, for you British and Aussies- it’s World Series time in the states so pardon my baseball reference. I love BAM 2 but BAM 3 is the best of the three BAM projects to my ears. Morning Has Broken sounds so much better than it did on YouTube. Oh My Goodness! It moves past Cat’s version!! I don’t know if this is just a higher resolution than YouTube but to my ears- it moves into a tie with God Only Knows as my all time MLT song!
World Without Love also sounds much better. Is this just my excitement in having all these great songs? I’m not familiar with the original of Best Years but I love Mona’s vocals and her harmonica is outstanding. They are covering so much ground on this LP!! Love the vibe of this song!
Glass Onion, oh my!! No doubt- this is the best yet!!
Love the guitar solo on Make Up Your Mind and John’s vocals do the job just fine. Time of the Season-Â another home run way out of the park. Very intricate guitar solo- love it!!The background vocals on this are beyond amazing. Top 6 all time by the girls!! Didn’t see this coming.
Love the vocals on Hey Bulldog. One of the few songs where I thought George’s guitar was better than Lisa’s. Not a reflection on Lisa’s guitar at all. George caught lightning in a bottle with Hey Bulldog.
I’m sure the Twins and Rudolf have done something extra with these recordings beyond what was on YouTube because they sound sensational!! Yesterday is awesome!! Thanks for these incredible recordings! -
I love the Beach Boys but personally, I believe the competition between them and The Beatles is pretty overrated. The Beach Boys were a terrific band- The Beatles were immortals. Brian Wilson was an awesome talent. John and Paul were the two most talented guys of a generation brimming with talent.
There are very few guys who continue to have impact on the music scene beyond a 5 or 6 year run and I think the tragedy of Brian lies more in how drugs, mental illness and a greedy therapist took away many good years of his life rather than it stole away his chance to make a perfect album. Pet Sounds is a practically perfect album anyway so mission accomplished. Just my opinion. -
Yes, they even acted on my suggestion to let us know who the last poster was. I’m finding that very helpful. Thanks so much!

Many of us- myself included- have responded to posts prior to a response by the Twins. I was asking if it was a problem and my interpretation is that maybe because they won’t always be able to get back to the questions in a timely fashion- despite their best efforts- they like the lively discussions that ensue!
I haven’t noticed a single poster who acted in a way that was detrimental to the board and that’s especially true of you. Don’t change a single thing about the way you’re posting and don’t post any less! You are one of the main reasons why I check in so regularly- to hear what you have to say and to learn from your point of view and your very obvious kindness and sensitivity!

Jacki, thank you! I’m back to being my over-analytical self. Just look at my review of White Room and you’ll see I’m back on the beam.

That’s great, Steve. And if by chance you haven’t heard some of the other CDs by MLT, they’ve provided free downloads for us in the Club! It’s in Content- Jukebox. How nice is that!

You’re not going to fool me, Howard with that I’m not perfect thing. I know better, my friend!

Mike, I always mention 4 albums as my favorite/ the best. Sgt. Pepper is the greatest album ever (by the Beatles and everybody else) but sounded a little dated and overproduced mostly because it was done on 4 tracks and involved a lot more production than Revolver. and then they released the deluxe, remixed version and it’s slipped back into number 2 on my list of favorites. Revolver is the second greatest album ever and my 3rd personal favorite. The White Album is the 3rd greatest album ever (and maybe we can argue Pet Sounds, Blonde on Blonde, Dark Side of the Moon and some other great albums by other artists) and currently my 4th favorite. My personal favorite is Abbey Road though on the greatness scale I rank it behind the first 3. I don’t think it had quite the influence those other albums had but I love every track so much other than Maxwell. The most overrated Beatles album to me is Rubber Soul. I prefer the American version that has a more folk rock feel to it but I think some of the compositions are fairly weak- Wait, Run For Your Life, It’s Only Love- by Beatles standards I find them very uninspired. I much prefer Help to Rubber Soul.
