I see nothing in the club rules that prevents us from communicating privately with one another so I sent you my email address. I absolutely trust everybody here but nobody else asked for it so I took it down.

Hey Howard- we’ve gotta keep meeting like this!
I’m going to go with everything you said except one thing- if you’re going to move the Twins to #2, let’s go for the gold and move them up to #1. Their covers of the Beatles have been exceptional and while many people like Robin Gibb’s version of Oh Darling, their overall inability to cover the Beatles on the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band Soundtrack sends the Twins ahead of them.
Mona & Lisa also gain the advantage by making quality albums. I’m not sure I can name a single album by the Bee Gees (well, Saturday Night Fever but that had other artists on it so I’ll conveniently eliminate it). Orange and When We’re Together are loaded with exceptional songs but they also work together as more than just a collection of songs.

Thanks for all that, Howard. I feel the same way about you- consider your back covered!

Being retired I do have the ability to pick and choose how I spend my time more than most. I thought it might be helpful to do a lot of posting early because from previous experience- albeit many years ago- I concluded that if we get used to checking back in and finding new posts- it greatly enhances a forum’s ability to be active and to survive. If you keep coming back to find nothing new- you tend to quit coming back.
As this forum gets busier, my intention is to cut back but if you think I’m posting too much- I’ll start cutting back now. All of the people here are huge MLT fans and I love and respect all of you and certainly don’t want to make this about myself. It’s hard enough for me to know how I come across when I’m actually with people but in this land of the written word– I can think I’m coming across as light and funny when that might not be the case at all.

When did you start writing poetry, Jacki? How many poems do you have? I don’t know if this interests you but you can publish a book of your poems on Kindle Direct Publishing kdp.com at no cost and sale it on Amazon. They take about $4.00 off the top and then give you 70% of the difference. Books are actually printed as they are ordered. Hey, I promise you- if you publish a book of your poetry, I’ll buy one!

Hey Tomas! My wife and I are going up to Raleigh on Wednesday 10-17 from our hometown of Wilmington. Our daughter lives there so we actually visit her about once a month. Anyway, if you ever want to sit down at a Starbucks and talk music, Beatles and Mona and Lisa, the invitation is there. I’m a big James Taylor fan- I love his song about the neighborhood he grew up in- Copperline. I’m almost 63 so there’s a wide age gap between us and unlike you, I’m not bigger than the Beatles. But it would be fun to talk with another MonaLisa Twins fan!

Count me in, Mike cos I love both of those songs. The Twins actually recorded a Chad and Jeremy song called Yesterday’s Gone. It’s a fine song and I like their version of it but I’m with you- I’d have picked A Summer Song. Here’s the link to it in case you aren’t familiar with it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NQSpGQ-TzA

My thinking on that is I don’t want the Twins to be regarded as simply a Beatles cover band. By mixing in so many other great 60’s songs- as well as putting out 2 exceptional original albums- they’ve been able to mostly avoid that. (Oh my goodness, they’ve added an edit button. I love it!)

Great question, Jacki!
I would love to hear a cover of Sunshine Superman by Donovan. Lisa’s lead guitar would rip into it beautifully and I think their vocals would be perfect for that song. But I’ll tell you- I’m excited about hearing the new covers for the first time. White Room has always been a favorite of mine and I can’t wait to hear how the girls interpret it.
I think the twins have been brilliant to somewhat limit their Beatles covers. They are identified enough with the Beatles- I wouldn’t want them to get too with the Beatles.

Good work, Jacki!! You definitely have a way with words.

Hey John,
Every criticism I have of Paul McCartney begins and ends with his lyric writing- and I was trying to say that much of his lyric writing is terrific. Although John was more important to the band in terms of social conscious, Paul was the most important musically. (By the way- everything I say is obviously just my opinion- I am certainly not the last word on anything!)
Paul’s bass playing was incredible and turned many exceptional Beatles songs into immortal. His bass line on Come Together makes an exceptional, quirky song absolutely fantastic. He does the same thing with Something, and then you add that starting with Rubber Soul, he played a great deal of the lead guitar- the guy is absolutely in a class by himself.
So you have my full support with standing up for Paul. I don’t like a lot of his solo stuff but if you take his best 30 songs, there’s some amazing stuff there. -
Hey John and Lisa,
I want to make a few comments on Paul as a lyricist. I completely agree with Lisa’s comment that his lyrics frequently lack depth. There are so many songs- especially as a solo artist- where his lyric writing is clearly uninspired. And McCartney lacks the poetic sensibilities that Lennon had. Eleanor Rigby stands alone as a remarkable work of poetry by Paul.
But he had a remarkable ability to write very personal songs and camouflage them where hardly anybody had a clue. Hey Jude is a great example: we’ve all heard the story about his writing the song on his way to meet Julian Lennon but it was actually a song telling himself that he would be okay when the Beatles broke up. Yesterday is about his mom’s death. Blackbird is about his own desire to break free- possibly from the Beatles, definitely from all the pressures and expectations of the Beatles. All the songs he wrote on side 2 of Abbey Road that point towards the breakup that ultimately leads to “And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make” shows how great he can be.
Certainly Paul is no Lennon as a lyricist- “I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together” is pretty much as good as it gets and if you look at his worst work, it’s pretty sad. But sometimes, he is amazing! -

We all have our own insecurities and sensitivities. No worries- all forgotten. Look forward to reading your posts and sharing in our mutual love for MonaLisa music. -
That certainly works for me, Jacki!
