Ricky Van Shelton Statue Of A Fool "LIVE" – YouTube

hmmmm wont show video, anyway, it is a live rendition while with a group of Nashville performers seated like at a round robin session

  • April 1947 – – Heartaches by Ted Reems Orchestra (#1 for 12 weeks), ……. June 1965 Mr Tambourine Man by The Byrds. I am not very familiar with Ted Reems version of “Heartaches”, absolutely love The Marcels version. Another favorite from 1947 is “The Anniversary Song” by Al Jolson

vocal harmonizing has been a part of music for a long time, centuries. In its purest form it consisted of 3 or 4 part vocalization, tenor baritone, soprano with voices providing a form of accompany (instruments). The groups you mentioned didnt break down the vocals in that manner in my opinion. Of course music is not stagnant and everything feeds into whatever is new. Main thing with doo wop is it can stand alone without guitars etc, I have often thought that The Four Tops and the Temptations had their roots in doo wop but went beyond it into more structured music forms

Jurgen, doo wop music was based on what was called street corner harmony, young singers getting together without any instruments. Later when record companies became involved, instruments were added. My personal favorite group of this genre is The Crests whose most possibly most famous song is “16 Candle” or “The Angels Listened In”. Doo Wop faded out during the early 1960s. last song of the genre is considered to be “Denise” by Randy and The Rainbows. Hope this helps.

First 2 names that popped into my head are Patsy Cline and local lady Merrilee Rush. The rest of the favorites list would include Brenda Lee, Mandy Barrent, Susan Tedeschi. Others I enjoy are Aretha Franklin, Wanda Jackson, Jackie DeShannon, Cher, Suzie Quatro

Thank you everyone for your comments and support. Here is a little back ground on my band. The bands name is The Inclusion Jam Project, I formed it to provide a way for underage to legally jam with adults. We perform for free in public venues, bring extra instruments, song books and mics so anyone can walk up and join in. We play mostly 60’s ansd 70’s rock, some country, even Gershwin. 1 singer is 30, the rest of use all over 60 and long term military vets. I play keyboard (mostly organ). Because of covid we had only 1 public performance last year but got together weekly to practice and keep in touch. The recording we are going to do is very limited production – for the Twins and for oiur personal collection.

    So, there is the background

Songs I dont care for now matter who performs that I can do wiithout are Mercedes Benz and These Boots Are Made For Walking. The only recordings of those 2 songs that I listen to are the Twins, and even then hit “next” half the time. When I do listen to them its because of loyalty to the Twins.

Jurgen – basically The Adventures Of Ozzie And Harriet was a weekly tv show about the Nelson family, although I dont remember them saying what Ozzie did for work on the show. In real life he was a band leader in the 40’s and he met Harriet when she became the bands singer. also in real life they married and had 2 boys, David and RIck (hee was Ricky until he became an adult). When he showed interest in music and began recording Ozzie used him and his band to end each weeks tv show and yes he is the Rick Nelson for Hello Mary Lou. Side notes actress Tracey Nelson is his daughter, twin sons were big in music in the 90’s as The Nelsons, his first wife, Kristine was Mark Harmon’s (NCIS) sister, the twins Matthew and Gunnar are record holders as they represent 4 sequential generations of 1 family with #1 hits, grandmother Harriets parents had a #1, Ozzie and Harriet had a #1, Rick had a few #1s and the twins had a #1. Neat video on youtube of the twins with James Burton who played in Ricks band. And there is a ton of music trivia, likely more than you needed

Actually what is generally credited as the first music video was in 1961. The Ozzie and Harriet tv show would end with son RIck Nelson and his band (with guitariist James Burton) doing one of his current hits. In 1961 they played his song Travelin’ Man over a traveloque type video showing cities around the world. Report is that the idea was Ozzie’s. I remember watching it. One of the advantages is remembering history as a current event

An interesting subject. With my band I try t have all sets open and close with up tempo songs, infuse energy. That being said I have often wondered how it would sound if the Twins did some classic Shadows songs, Apache for example or Cliff’s The Young Ones. Either would sure get the crowds attention. I have also wondered how Lisa would sound doing Jackie Deshannon’s When You Walk In The Room. Of course the ladies have recieved hundreds if not thousands of suggestions from all of us so who knows what they will do. But whatever they do, it will be excellant.

You Tub has new rendtions of old classics, songs that are “oldies” in one place and new discovery in another. Even band line up changes – – The Searchers were good but I prefer Spencer James on lead vocals also that line up put reverb on the vocals which is killer. And discovering the twins – – as I had said else where I do NOT own a single Beatles record but I have 8 MLT cd’s, my favorite cover is Please Please Me, my favorite original is Still A Friend Of Mine. Musically I am from the Doo Wop generation so vocals and harmony are vital as well as music that gets your feet, your waist moving. My goal is to win the Lotto so can bring the Twins to Seattle, they should bring their skis of course

We will do our best, may have to adjust to our vocals and such, our youngest member is 60. But the message in the song is so well stated by the Ladies,, have to share it

I am glad my comment struck a chord so to speak. Yes we are some distance apart but can still exchange ideas here. How and why I formed my band – – The Inclusion Jam Project – – lung cancer surgery Feb 2013, Christmas shopping with wife in November I mentioned some friends were telling me to bite the bullet and learn keyboard so Christmas Day 2013 I had my first music lesson. In 2016 I was invited to join a veterans jam group. 2017 talking to a young lady I realized there was no way for minors (teens etc) to jam with grown ups legally so I formed the Project, we play only all ages venues for free, bring extra instruments for walk-ons. You dont have to be on level as the Twins to share and enjoy. I find music from the 60’2 is still drawing crowds. and so what if there is a sour note or 2, like Willie says in “On The Road Again” – — the life I love is making music with my friends. go for it
