All About Falling In Love – Duo Session

Welcome to the 1st Duo Session of this years’ Advent Calendar. We decided to play something off our original debut album!

A tune we have only rarely performed as a duo but one that actually lends itself really well to a stripped-back setup. Do you have a favourite song off the “When We’re Together” album?

  1. Another wonderful performance. Thanks for sharing it with us.
My favorite song from your “When We’re Together” album is “The Wide Wide Land”. It has been since I first heard it – and it still is my favorite original of yours. The deeply personal lyrics that relate to your grandmother make it so very special.

  2. Nice job ladies.
As I listen to this song, I get a rather mellow feeling inside.
To me, the song seems somewhat sad (not the twins fault).
Well not every song can be a happy one. Just like life itself –
not every moment is a happy time.
However, the lyrics do show a possibility of finding love. This is always encouraging.
    Love you,
    Bobby S.

  3. I listened to this song from time to time, then stopped for a while. When I started listening to it again it hit me – it’s a beautiful waltz, perfect to dance to if you’re young enough to keep up. I never was a great dancer, but I loved to dance anyway, and the waltz was my favorite. We would dance to waltzes at country/western bars and Mexican style wedding dances. Arthritis has stopped my long time dance partner and beautiful wife from taking to the dance floor, but I can still see us out there when I hear this song.
Do any of you Wagners waltz?

  4. So nice, particularly the change of key and the middle eight section. Reminded me a little bit of Norwegian Wood. I love the way you harmonise.

  5. excellent as is the norm Girls. You mightn’t remember, but your Dad surely would ,the popularity of ‘unplugged’ albums in the early 90’s , Paul McCartney & Eric Clapton are 2 that immediately spring to my mind. They were just acoustic sessions of popular artists, maybe The MonaLisa Twins ‘UnPlugged’ would be a future project? Either way the best of luck, keep making great sounds

  6. I’m starting the Advent Calender today. I was a little busy. I once said that I liked the Orange album, but the When We’re Together album is the best. I don’t know which song I like the most, today is this one.

  7. My favorite on When We’re Together is I Wanna Kiss You although I totally understand not covering it as acoustic. Stay groovy!

  8. Very good. When you two do the duo sessions or for any live song, I try to check out things like equipment and technique while listening. I noticed Mona has a Martin acoustic…..not sure what kind of Martin but to me they are all good. I also noticed that Lisa uses the three finger picking technique (well a thumb and 2 fingers, I think). Regardless of equipment or technique, you two are very good. Mike.

  9. I’m going to tell you a secret. All MLT music albums I like a lot, but there is one that I have on my playlist as the most listened to and it’s When We’re Togother. In the car, on the smartphone, on DVD. June I love it, because Mona is really bright as the sun, The Wide, Wide Land for the meaning it has for MLT… but there’s one I hear at the beginning of the day, when I wake up, every day, it’s sunny or it’s raining, it’s: Nothing Is in Vain :). Good Day

  10. This is so cool. First you ask if I have a favorite song off the “When We’re Together” album, and then you go and duo session my favorite song off the “When We’re Together” album. “All About Falling In Love” stands out by illustrating a side of the human condition that applies to everyone on the planet regardless of culture or GPS coordinates, and even if you have no one to stand beside you, the song leaves room for the possibility, finishing with an optimistic note. And the music is such that you want to listen repeatedly. Your songwriting is insightful and emotional, so much so that I’m probably helping the Kleenex people attain early retirement. Thank you for this duo!

  11. Ok… This just came into being for me:

    “LampiBampi Lullabye ”

If ever there was a beloved toy
Of a childhood past gone by
That still survives a tad worn and torn
    Never to scorn or forlorn
    But a keeper loved still
    Wonder why?!
    A comforter of sorts
    For Mona and Lisa
Accompanied on all sorts of the Twins adventures and grins
    Personally a closet singer
    Me truly thinks
    Are eyes rolling and blinks?!
The wee creature just adds that special touch
How it’s gaining its own popularity and such
A new Instagram for it perhaps in future
    Or that’s going extreme much
    Gotta Luv no matter what
The security and warmth it brings
    Never BAAAd, but Groovy Good
    I hope never musunderstood
Kicked around or dragged by foot
    All in all
I have come to see why
The reverence we all have come to love and respect
    MLTBuzzing Mascot
    How perfect
    LampiBampi Lullabye …

  12. I really enjoy your Duo Sessions. Thank you! The two of you singing together is very special, especially when it is your music. It’s very hard to choose a favorite off “When We’re Together” because I usually listen to the entire album. But if I had to pick one, maybe it be “Noting is in Vain”, but it could also be “June”. To be honest, it’s hard to pick a favorite because I enjoy all of them.

  13. How I love the Duo Sessions! ?❤️ This will be an entire album of favorites for me soon enough.
“When We’re Together” is an incredible album, which could be all hits (if the music industry was about good music). “When We’re Together” is a great opener for the album, so upbeat and chirpy with an indelible melody.
I have a playlist with “Dreams” following The Beatles’ “Because”, and it flows so nicely and perfectly. You can’t overstate what a fabulous song it is, if it can follow “Because”.
I’m not surprised that almost everyone here has listed “The Wide Wide Land”. It’s the epitome of Three Chords and The Truth. I’ve often said that this song brings me joy, and I know that can be strange given the lyrics’ topic, but truth brings peace and healing, which “The Wide Wide Land” delivers in spades. All that peace and healing rides on love which unequivocally leaves me with a full, joyous heart.
I’ve mentioned before that “Nothing Is In Vain” has impressed me greatly. “All About Falling In Love” is another beautiful, honest and heartfelt gift, as are all the other songs on this lovely, fetching album.
Personally, I’d love to hear more originals in the Duo Sessions. Reworked, stripped down versions can show what great songs they all are. I like them!

    1. I had that same insight about “When We’re Together” (the song), Tomás. If Mona and Lisa starred in a “Laverne and Shirley” type of sitcom, that should be the theme song. I can picture the opening credits superimposed over a clip reel of their amusing moments.

  14. This is in fact my favourite song on that album. Such a beautiful melody, and wonderful harmonies. Thank you!

  15. Trying to choose a favorite off the album would be as futile to me as trying to choose between lemon meringue pie and sweet cherry pie. (I love pie.) That’s why when I listen I always listen to the whole album! BTW, these duo sessions really showcase your musicality. Sweeter than pie!

    1. Pie is amazing so we take this as a big compliment 😉
That’s really interesting that you mention listening to the album as a whole. I feel, in times of digital audio files, Spotify and iTunes, the music world has become much more about singles rather than albums. But we love knowing that you still treat our music that way … it’s one of the reasons why we included the opening track on ORANGE. We wanted the album to flow and feel connected as a whole, with a beginning and an end.

      1. Yes I certainly do. Maybe that’s another reason I find your music so wonderful… your ability to tell a story. Each album is like a cohesive collection of short stories and when you finish listening its like closing the back cover of the book. So satisfying!

    2. I saw a recent interview where Sheryl Crowe said she won’t do albums anymore because people only download certain songs and not the whole album. She said a lot of new artists are focusing on singles instead of albums. That is a shame. Brian Wilson said of Rubber Soul, every song sounded like it came from the same place referring to that connected flow across the album as a whole. I hope the artistic album legacy started by the Beatles does not get lost. I’m so glad we have you Mona and Lisa! ?

  16. Beautiful! I have always loved this song, and this version is so pure and beautiful. And, yes I do think it is “All About Falling In Love.”
Thank you for this version! Lots and lots and lots of love!

  17. As you know, I love your original music. <3 This particular song is among my least favorite ones from your 2 album, and YET it is a very good song. 🙂 I think that speaks a lot about the quality of your songwriting (for my taste). And yeah, as you probably also know, my favorite from that album (and from all of your songs, actually… even though I like the "Orange" slightly better overall) is "The Wide Wide Land". <3 In fact, that song is in my personal all time Top 10, from ALL the music I have heard in these 40 years of my life – https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL__boP7XA04RlsmVwbQ8tKPcicWOrW_fp

    1. That video you embedded isn’t playing unfortunately, was it The Wide, Wide Land or something else?

And thank you! 🙂 We’ve played “The Wide, Wide Land” acoustically on so many shows we thought we’d do one of the lesser requested acoustic versions for today’s Duo Session. ♥

    1. Thanks Charles! This is what it sounded like when we first wrote the song. Just two guitars and voices 🙂 Glad you like it!

  18. Really loving it, you’re truly an inspiration. I really need to pick up my guitar and play. Not nearly as good as you ladies WOW. Duo sessions is a great idea! Wide Wide Land or I Don’t Know Birds That Well.

  19. Beautiful Ladies! The Harmonies? WOW!! Continue to blow me away!
    2 favorites off the album
    Won’t You Listen Now and
    One More Time.
    Huge sentimental favorite
Wide Wide Land (I know how much it means to you too❤)
I see Lampi Bampi is in the Gallery Section today ?
Your hair styles are beautiful. Have a great day ladies and Thanks. ?❤
By the Way, there is a Certain Parcel at your Post Office. ??

  20. Morning team MLT! It’s 7:28 am here in N.Y. What a great way to start my day! Beautifully done! I love that whole album but “June” keeps going through my head regularly for whatever reason! So a duo session of that tune would be SWEET! Have a great weekend!

    1. We’re glad this made for a good start to your day! 🙂
June would lend itself to a duo session, maybe we’ll do it in the new year!

  21. Beautiful song. The truth is that the whole album When We’re Together I really like it. It’s my star album, I hear it all the time: on the mp3, on the computer…. at all hours!. But maybe my 3 favorite songs are: The Wide Wide Land, June, and Nothing is In Vain

  22. Excellent choice of song for a Duo Session version. It doesn’t need anymore than two guitars and two lovely voices singing in harmony. An MLT classic configuration. This song always makes me wonder about how Rudi and Michaela met and what there love story was like. Maybe someday you could share that with the Club.

    1. Nicely put Richard. It would be lovely to hear about their courtship. I’m sure some hints could be found in Rudi’s contributions to the MLT’s original songs. We just need to listen a little astutely perhaps. I know there is much that suggests a father’s love for his daughters, and vice versa, no doubt.

  23. Great song, what a great way to start the day. Talking of which this Club membership is really starting to affect my morning routine – in a good way(!) as I can’t wait to check out the new Advent Day message and comments. Still haven’t started those Christmas cards……

  24. So lovely Mona and Lisa, and like so many others here I find it difficult to choose favourites as there are so many and they can change from day to day. However, perennial favs are “The Wide, Wide Land’, ‘Won’t You Listen Now’, ‘I Don’t Know Birds That Well’ , ‘June’, the video of ‘Nothing Is In Vain’ and of course this very sweet number you have chosen for today’s Advent Calendar, along with the excellent video production that goes with the album version. ?❤️

  25. I love these acoustic performances. Just your beautiful singing and sweet guitar sounds alone are musical perfection to the ears. Makes me want to put the video on repeat and continue watching and listening over and over. This song is such a sweet gem, and it would be too difficult to choose a single favorite on the album. The Wide, Wide Land, Nothing Is In Vain, I Don’t Know Birds that Well, June, Dreams, All About Falling in Love ….I love them all! Thank you for this slice of music heaven!

  26. Wonderful performance and a most special Advent present! Thanks Mona and Lisa!
I’m amazed repeatedly at the incredible videos that accompany the songs on When We’re Together. The songs are fantastic, truly worthy of comparison to Lennon/McCartney especially at the young age it was done. I love I Don’t Know Birds That Well and my favorite is WideWide Land. The arrangement and harmonies are of course fantastic but the words mean so much to me and to anyone with elderly relatives or friends and those once in a lifetime relationships.

    1. It seems like The Wide, Wide Land made it onto everybody’s list. And to think that the song almost didn’t make it onto the album! It was the last song we wrote, after our grandma passed away, to play at her funeral. We’re glad it touched so many people, we think that would make our grandma very happy.
Glad you like this Duo Session, we really enjoy making these!

  27. It’s hard to choose a favorite, but Nothing is in Vain has helped me through some bad days.
June is always uplifting, especially the video.
The wide wide land is also special to me .
    Thanks, as always

    1. There is sunshine after rain, there is pleasure after pain ♥ Thanks for letting us know that Nothing Is In Vain was there for you in tough times!

  28. While on the music go round here… One of the local malls here,, well one is kibda close to my area I live in, as in a 10 mins city transit bus rider’s worth…. And the mall brought back the community old hightop piano…. I decided to tinker around on it, took a selfie video miniclip…. Lol…. Not the best but evidence I did try out a few blips of Xmas Songs and Mary Had A Little Lamb and Twinkle Little Star bits n pieces…. We had an electric Bontempi brand portable piano/organ we(older bros and me) got one Xmas and the songbook with it, the keys were numbered, so I kinda was playing on mall piano by what memory I recalled from that songbook??????

      1. Would you look at that cute thing! 🙂 Isn’t it great how, as long as something intrigues you, you can learn from it. Sometimes limitation actually helps with creativity so I can see how tinkering around on this would make you try out all sorts of things.

  29. I agree with Jacki; it’s really hard to pick out a single favorite. “This Boy Is Mine” and “I Wanna Kiss You” strike me as the most Beatlesque, but the two that I think best capture the essence of the MLT sound at that time are “June” and “I Don’t Know Birds That Well”. Those would certainly be the gateway songs that I would recommend to a potential new fan.

  30. All of them equally… Lol… Actually, “I Don’t Know Birds That Well” ties with “Wide Wide Land”… Then again… Lol… But for the sake of this posting, I’ll stick with Tied choices I above mentioned thereof… But I do LUV this rendition of the song, perfect for Duo Session Time, Thankyou for choosing to do that????
