Any Other Day – Behind The Scenes

Any other place …

Well, we chose “Chester” for our place of choice when we filmed the music video for “Any Other Day”.

It’s a picturesque little town and almost everywhere you turn looks good!

It was a chilly (like on all the other days we ever film a video outside) but gorgeous day, and the four of us were able to wrap up the entire shoot in less than 4 hours, which might be a record for us! We know this for sure, because our parking meter would have run out after 4 hours but we made it home without a ticket! 😉

Big thanks to Michaela for filming the behind- the-scenes footage, we hope you all enjoy coming along on our little trip to Chester!

Stay groovy,
Mona & Lisa

  1. Almost already one year that this wonderful video has been done, I love it so much and this song is so beautiful, very nice, a great great song. Merci.

  2. I enjoy watching the behind the scenes videos. I don’t know how you do it when it’s so cold. How does your father hold the camera steady while walking backwards? I’d trip on something. Your videos are always well done.

    Thanks

  3. The MonaLisa Twins are the best!🎤🎸⭐⭐💖
I really enjoy watching all of the behind the scenes videos. It looks like the twins have so much fun doing them.

  4. I’ve twice been on a canal boat into/through Chester and both times moored up on the stretch you used for your video. Indeed we have eaten (and drunk beer) many times in The Mill that is also along that stretch. I’m sure that you noticed it.

Chester is a beautiful and wonderful city to visit with plenty to do.

  5. It must be so much fun making these videos ( I know it’s a lot of work, but you make it look so fun to do). Thanks for taking us behind the scenes! Such a talented family!

  6. It’s always fun to see how much thought and ideas go into making a finished product and this BTS episode did not disappoint. I had mentioned when the video was first released that it was interesting how Mona appeared to play 3 recorder flutes at once, and Im sure the onlookers were puzzled! The creativity of the whole MLT family to keep producing such high quality, entertaining and inspiring songs and videos is so very much appreciated. All I can say is Stay Groovy!!!

  7. Thank you for this BTS video and for visiting my local city. There are plenty of other great backdrops for more videos in Chester. Maybe one day you can come over the Mersey and do a live concert please.

  8. Well done on another great video. Having done quite a bit a video work myself, I was impressed that it was all done in 4 hours – did that include all the planning of what the shots would be and where they are taken? Really liked the Picture-in-picture bit at the end.

  9. Michaela did a great job with the footage! It’s always fun watcing the behind the scenes stuff! Like the way Mona had that third recorder rigged up. Papa Rudi is the George Lucas of Team MLT! Those skinny boats seem to be popular over there in the U.K.

  10. It was funny how the guy was kept looking at you, Mona when you were playing the flutes.
Your whole family is so good and prepared to film every video.
Very enjoyable scenes, looks like a very 😎 town !

  11. more video’s about my favorite song. can’t get much better. love behind the scenes videos. just occurred to me the other day after listening to the song for 200th time this would be a great song for a rom com movie.

    1. Hi John,
i know what you mean about the rom com vibe. I felt that way with the first listen. I remember thinking it could be an opening song to a movie or a TV show. The next time you watch the video wait for the credits to roll along with this beautiful song. What are the chances?

      JP

  12. It is very interesting to see how the video was made, thanks to Michaela. Mona I love your leather coat and Lisa, it is fun to see you playing air guitar, I really love the demo video, merci de nous montrer ce tres beau video.

  13. It always amazes me how economically you shoot your vids. Thank you Ms. Michaela for the backstory shoot. I impressed by Lisa’s air guitar. One more thing are British guys blind-If I saw a beautiful blonde playing 3 flutes, you bet I’m hanging around. And I’m an old guy. Lol. Peace be.

    1. I would certainly have stopped to see what was going on. Perhaps it’s something in the water in Chester?

My favorite two Twins live performance videos are “Revolution” and “Johnny B. Goode”. They certainly had the guys total attention in those videos. It would have been great to be in the crowd that night.

  14. Thanks to Michaela for all of the behind the scenes footage. We love seeing how you accomplish some of the tricky shots. Mona has some Flash Gordon speed in her. It’s very impressive how you maintain your composure and remain fixed upon the camera while Monday morning life is scurrying about. Mona’s recorder stand reminds me of another pyramid I have see from some other band.

  15. I always learn something with every new BTS video. Two things in this one in fact.
    1) I thought Mona was wearing a large triangular necklace during the recorder scene. That was truish I guess, but it was interesting to see it was really a recorder holder. (Better than biting down on it I suppose!)

    2) The other thing was that the intent was for Mona to coming singing/miming the 2nd verse harmony at “we’d still be out floating in space”, instead of the next phrase as in the final cut. Was that a conscious decision I wonder?

  16. Such a wonderful insight to the process of making the video! Thank-you for sharing this.
It is kind of funny how people will tend to ignore goings on, maybe it’s shyness or not wanting to be involved, I don’t really know but it seems to be true.
I can’t help but notice, in some scenes and other shoots Mona appears taller than Lisa. I did see some elevation differences in the sidewalk along the canal but I’ve seen it in the studio and Calendar shoots too. Is she actually a bit taller?

      1. Ok this info is actually out there, Lisa said in a past video that Mona is 4cm taller than her. So mystery solved! Enjoy!

      2. Yes, I remember that video! That is a bit over 1.5 inches. I was talking about actual heights. So that remains a mystery, lol.

  17. As others have stated, with all those people around it’s amazing that you got this video done at all, let alone finishing it in 4 hours! Did you use some fancy editing to remove some of the people from the final cut, or did you did you just wait for breaks in the flow of people?

You gals were born to be cold. From the Austrian Alps to cold and wet English winters, it seems to be your karma to be cold. Things have started warming here and I’m already getting spring fever, but here in the desert the scary phrase is “summer is coming”.

      1. Hi James,

I think you know the phrase way better than I do. I worked TDY in nearby Mesa enough to know that it can be brutal there in the summer. But I did make time to do some great hikes there in the winter. Deserts aren’t for everyone, but they do have their own special beauty.

    1. We were lucky to always get at least one good take without (too many) people in the background. Luckily, no editing magic was needed here!

  18. So interesting to learn a little more about how you made this!
I love those narrow boats – so cool one of them came by just in time to make everything rhyme… 🙂

  19. Great behind-the-scenes mini-documentary — thank you Michaela and Team MLT!!

Right now for favorite tunes on the MLT’s new album, Why?, it’s a 3-way tie between I Bought Myself a Politician, Why?, and Any Other Day.

Very nice melodies and arrangements. My compliments.

  20. Very nice. Great job M, L, M, & R.
Behind the Scenes are always fun. Thank you.
Here in NY, the weather is warming up nicely. Spring is in the air and will begin on Monday. Yipeee.
Hope everyone has a good weekend.
    Love & Peace,
    Bobby S.

  21. There are so many cool parts to this. I would think that for the day of shooting, you asked all the boats to leave and then hired the lovely couple with the pretty boat to go by for the shot, and they had to back up and go by again for every retake. At least that’s how it works in Hollywood. Many times I had to park my car elsewhere because of filming. And all those people were not extras you hired?
I loved the color tones used to give the final video a warm and cozy feeling.
The stone wall with the pigeons seems to be partly the old Roman wall, right?
Thank you for a lovely insight!

    1. That’s right, the wall was built by the Romans ~2000 years ago. The whole city has such an interesting history!
I’m glad you pointed out the colour grading, we played around with the video’s look for quite a bit in post-production 🙂

  22. Wow you say a record for you to film this? How cool is that? Again just the 4 of you? Amazing just simply amazing! What a great way to see how it all came together. I hope everyone can see how great this is and to understand with a major record label it would of been so expensive and I can truly say not even close to the quality that you all put forth. Thank you so much for sharing with us and as always kicks starts my weekend. Just love this song and the harmony’s are pitch perfect!! Your voices blend so well and so easy on the ear and soul to listen to. God bless you all and thanks again.

  23. So much fun, seeing the behind the scenes videos! Thank you so much for sharing! I had no idea that there were so many people there. Great job getting it done. And thank you Michaela!

  24. What an absolutely beautiful little town. You picked a perfect location and apparently a perfect day as it turned out. I just love these BTS videos. They let us feel like we are there with you soaking in all the fun and excitement. Can’t think of anything I would enjoy more than spending the day with the wonderful Wagner family. Thanks so much for sharing!
Oh, by the way, Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!!

  25. These videos are always interesting. Thanks for posting them in the club. Thank you Michaela for capturing the Behind The Scenes videos. No matter how much you plan you always get the unexpected moments like the curious onlookers when Mona is playing the flutes. Sometimes these become a highlight of the video. I like the last part also when you are showing the real video along with the demo video. I kept pausing and playing back parts, very interesting. Thanks again for another enjoyable Friday.

  26. I live in Chester and am absolutely gutted that I missed you filming, especially even I’m normally in town on a Monday morning having a coffee. I walk the canal, cross the bridge over Eastgate Street and by the dovecote. Never mind , next time. Love you both, your music is amazing and again, gutted I missed you. Carry on with what you’re doing, brilliant. X

  27. A great start to St. Patricks Day!! One of my favorite perks of being an MLT Club member, are these BTS videos. You ladies(and Papa Rudi & Michaela) never cease to amaze me with your creative visions. And like Dave & his wife,I will have to put a visit to Chester on my list for next year too.Have a great weekend!! See you in next weeks post.

    Love & Hugs 💛 💓
    Tom

  28. Always enjoy behind the scenes videos. Thanks! I was just a worried someone was going to fall in the canal as the final video!

  29. Super job again. I’m a newbie (December) but Fridays the best day now! A really good editing job. Chester is lovely but always incredibly busy. Bit like York. The ingenuity and quality of the videos the four of you produce are first class and it’s really interesting to see the work in progress too. A fun film to a great song. Thank you.

  30. That was a great behind the scenes view. You actually to get to see more of Chester in the demo version. Only the famous clock gives it away in the final video (which then cuts away quickly). Love that boat floating by just when you needed it – great luck. I think the scenes when walking on the walls are better in the final version than the demo and of course the pigeons leave their best work for the final take!

  31. Thx once more for another very informative “Behind the Scenes” video. Another Friday and more smiles. My wife and I are planning a trip to London in 2024 so Chester is now on the list of places to visit!!

  32. You sure picked a neet town and beautiful winter for the shoot. Don’t you like it when things just come together. It is a great video and the behind the scenes is excellent. Michaela did a fantastic job of filming the BTS video. It’s always fun to see how things are put together. Stay Groovy!

  33. Yep, this was fun to watch but, I’m sorry Lisa, Mona is the star of the video. To watch her dart in and out of the frame was very cool idea. And to see Mona staggering around on the street playing 3 recorders was just hilarious. Probably Lisa’s idea to make her sister look like a nut 🙂 I know how it is….I have two daughters.
Thanks for a great start to the weekend!

  34. Hello Ladies
Wow! Less than 4 hours! You had to rush home and get Rudi out of the house so his C3 could be delivered. 😆
Love these backstories of how everything comes together.
The boat passing thru was perfect as was Monas disappearing act throughout the video.

    Best Always

  35. I’m going to make it a mission in life to “accidentally” feature in a MLT video as a member of the “unwitting” public.

    1. Wearing an MLT t-shirt and or hoody? That would be kool. All kidding aside, it would be kool if you were just in the background or did a Hitchcock appearance. Just wait a few before you reveal it.

  36. Wow… that was cool to watch….it totally reminds me of the core heart of downtown Ottawa along The Rideau Canal, where in late Spring, to early Fall, boats are coming/going, docked alongside the canal.
The pigeon timing trick, etc, and the city/location area you chose to film at, all beautiful, and and most folks surrounding you, whike filming, were oblivious/didn’t pay attention, a few turned heads wondering, lol …. Yes, the whole thing, just worked together and intertwined complimentary for the song, its essence, vibe… Yes, Chilly weather seems to be the ongoing inside filming trademark for you …lol …
Enjoyed watching the BTS stuff here, Thankyou, #MLTBuzzLuvGroovified indeed …😊🤘👌👍

  37. This BTS video is both interesting and delightful! The melody and idea/lyrics of the song match so well. The timing of the pigeon flock at the end, and the entry/re-entry of Mona into the frame on those occasions was just so well synchronized – little bits of perfection to anticipate each time one watches. It’s always interesting to see how you make such great videos. The simultaneous demo/actual video playing is fun to watch. Thanks to the four of you for making this.

  38. I love these behind the scene videos giving an insight into how you plan and execute the filming. Once again I have to congratulate the four of you ,what a brilliant team.

  39. So many thoughts, here are some without any cohesive train of presentation:
I am not familiar with Chester, but it looks like a beautiful town. If I make it back to the UK I will have to check it out.
Lisa is a tremendous guitarist, but I seem to know more chords on my air guitar than she does on hers 😄.
Kudos for Rudi walking such a straight line going backwards. I can’t do as well going forward.
Mona’s flute playing is so cute. It just is.
I am so thankful you ladies have not lost your accent when speaking conversationally. If you only knew how charming it sounds🥰.
Lisa, for some reason to me, you looked very much like Young Lisa, say 13 year old Lisa to me in this video. That is a very good thing.
Thank you to Michaela for capturing all this. This song quickly became my favorite off this album. It is a joy it watching how it is put together, and I appreciate you showing how the magic is made. I feel as though I was there.
Happy St Patrick’s Day! I am making a big pot of corned beef and cabbage. Do you celebrate the day? I know you aren’t Irish but maybe you fake it for one day?😀

  40. Thank you Michaela for filming this. You did a wonderful job!
This was so entertaining, interesting and informative. Thank you for sharing! 🙂

  41. It’s so cool to see all the meticulous preparation that goes into these videos: the science behind the art!

Any particular reason that you reversed your walking direction in the city wall scene?

  42. The Behind the Scenes videos are great to watch. We can both enjoy and appreciate the process that must be undertaken to complete such fine pieces of art. Keep on showing the demo videos. So much fun to watch and a learning process as well!

  43. You are so good at music video production now, you could probably write a valuable book or give a master class. How to create an incredible and perfect video efficiently with maximum impact. Given how busy with people the streets of Chester was, it’s amazing how you were able to extract such perfect scenes with minimal people traffic in the background. Mona’s flute scene for example, that was a busy street, or Lisa walking along the side walk, we can see a crowd forming behind, yet in the video it looked completely deserted and so natural and serene. I bet Trudy coming into your lives made you more natural with all those pigeons that made such a perfect back drop for the video, “it’s funny how life works that way”. The demo video with the music was very enjoyable too, a nice alternate version to the video! Thanks for taking us along, really enjoyed seeing this behind the scenes to the video shoot. Amazing pros you all are, you make it look so easy, but of course it’s not, you are just all amazing at it now. 🎞✨💛❤😊

  44. Great stuff, ladies! I was actually going to submit two questions for the Q&A, but you answered them in this video. I was curious about the triangular necklace-like device that Mona was wearing during the flute scene, but that mystery was solved. I was also curious about how Papa Rudi shot the walking scenes so smoothly, especially walking backwards. It looked like a dolly shot, but there were no tracks. I was stunned to see that it was just his amazing handheld skills at work. The MLT team never fails to impress me! Thanks, and have a great weekend!

  45. It seems that each song I hear from the LP I am saying,” Yes, that’s my favorite song from the LP.” I think it means I like the whole album.

  46. Incredible what an effort once again.when You look at the original video everything looks so simple.
Its obvious it was a cold day. Mona’s hands are in her pockets quite a lot.
I hope the next video will bring better weather (idea: summer rain 🙂 ) thank You for another great look into your life. I sure hope there will be much more to come. I can’t get enough of it.
