BBC Radio Merseyside – Saturdays with Billy Butler – Radio Performance/Interview

[wonderplugin_audio id=”48″]

Two days after setting foot in Liverpool in March 2014 we met Billy Butler, one of the city’s most legendary radio presenters. Having DJ’ed at the Cavern Club back in the 60’s he’s a true “been there, done that” character full of fascinating stories, love for this beautiful city and great Liverpudlian humour.

Billy has been very supportive of our music right when we first moved to the UK and helped us introduce our name to the Merseyside public early on. Our guest appearances on his shows, where we would perform some songs and tell stories, quickly turned into a weekly segment on his show “Saturdays with Billy Butler”. Each weekend we would perform a 60’s cover requested by one of the listeners during the week and over the course of 5 months (April – August 2014) we had played countless songs on his show.

A 60’s Cover A Week on BBC Radio Merseyside

We collected all of them here on this page where you can listen to a total of 4.5 hours of just MLT on his Saturday morning show. Click the playlist above to play all of them or choose your favourites in the list below – an overview of all songs we ever played during our Saturday morning residency from April – August 2014:

There are a few appearances on Billy’s show that aren’t included in this list, since they were not always part of the weekly segment.

Check out a few of them here:

– With Mike McGear McCartney playing “Do You Remember”

With Mike Byrne Playing “Unchain My Heart”

Liverpool Plays Pepper – An Hommage to 50 Years of Genius

Thanks for listening!

We will treasure these recordings forever as they mark an important chapter in our lives right after moving to Liverpool. It’s a pleasure to share them with you 🙂

  1. What a wonderful Find! Such a shame they forced Billy out? A wonderful legend.
For me the song would have to be. Do Do Do You Remember. It was the first one I found and I love your responses when you found out Reginald Dwight (Elton John) was a back up singer on the original recording. ?❤

  2. Thanks for sharing these again. I remember them well but couldn’t remember where to find them. I love them all but my favourites would have to be “The Wide, Wide Land” and “Catch The Wind”. I’m so pleased you had someone like Billy Butler to lend a helping hand during your early days in Liverpool. ?❤️

  3. Just heard Mona and Lisa’s live version of Help and it sounds brilliant! With just their two voices and guitars, how can it sound so good to my ears as when the full band with John, Paul, George and Ringo do it? Such perfect harmony at work. It’s the FAB2.

  4. What a Wonderful World, from the 2014-05-10 session, is so touching. I can feel the love in your voices. Your singing always has a way of moving people.

  5. What a treasure trove here of covers I’ve never heard before by the girls. I think I will be here for quite a while. “Tonight You Belong to Me” on the 2014 06 07 show (along with Here Comes the Sun) is fabulous among many others I’ve found here so far.

    1. Could you please let us know what device you are using (phone, tablet, pc?) and what internet browser (chrome, firefox, internet explorer, etc?)? We noticed that the files were in the wrong order (sorry for that) but was there another problem? Could you not play them at all? We’d love to find out what the cause could be but unfortunately haven’t been able to replicate the problem. Many thanks!

      1. Michaela has told me in the past to try clearing the cookies. When I have it plays fine. Just a suggestion
