The Making Of “Once Upon A Time” – Behind The Scenes Video

A Look Behind (Or Above?) The Scenes …

After spending nearly three weeks in one of our favourite places on earth, we packed our bags again, happy and pleased with the number of things we got done in this relatively short period of time. We had filmed two videos, worked on new original music, took hundreds of pictures (find them here), and got to spend at least a bit of time at the pool and exploring the island. A successful work-holiday we would call that!

Once we were back on British turf, the next challenge awaited us. Now we had to fit hundreds of hours of video footage into a 5-minute video. Having spent several days on going through and sorting the footage alone, it was clear that we could never use all our favourite scenes. Despite the fact that “Once Upon A Time” is one of the longest songs we ever recorded, there simply wasn’t enough room, and huge sacrifices had to be made 😉

So we decided to do another one of our our behind-the-scenes videos, exclusive to the MLT Club, to show you at least a bit more of the beautiful island. And to give you a peek behind the various camera lenses on how we went about exploring the territory, finding the best spots to film and capturing the strange beauty of Lanzarote.

Follow our little DIY family on a creative song writing/video-filming trip to the islands of volcanoes!

Always stay groovy,
Mona & Lisa

  1. Wow, such beautiful scenery! I liked Mona’s comment, “The cloud of doom”, and I totally agree with Lisa, that was one hell of a shoot! All four of you rock! Thank you for sharing.

  2. What is so amazing is that Team Wagner produces all these high quality videos themselves. Just think of the time, the talent, and the hard work that it takes to create these outstanding productions!

Inside, outside, or a combination between the two, all the finished results are top-notch!

Thank you for allowing us to see the process via these Behind the Scenes videos!

  3. Fascinating! Lanzarote is a beautiful island with such diverse landscapes. What a great place to shoot video. Especially when you have such talented people as Papa Rudi and Michaela finding locations and controlling the cameras. Once Upon A Time is an amazing video. Plus, an awesome song. Put the two together and it’s more MonaLisa Magic! Love it!!

  4. Here in Brazil we have a saying that “the family that prays together, it remains together.” I think I can say it for the family who works together. It’s beautiful to see it.

  5. Thank you for taking the time to share this with us. Your music and videos are so much more meaningful to me knowing they are the creative efforts of the Wagner family.

  8. Holy smokes! Those drone shots were just breathtaking. Just one question, does the next generation Mavic 3 come with seats? 🙂 What a beautiful and unique place Lanzarote is, and I can see why it has become one of your favorite places on the planet. I’m so glad you took way too much video footage as it made for an absolutely stunning behind the scenes video. I wish you had an endless supply of photos and videos from this trip as I could watch these all day. Loved it! Thanks so much for compiling this video to share with us all! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 MLT team, you rock!

  10. I can’t thank you enough for sharing these behind the scene videos. They really make me feel like I’m right there with you and part of the action. I know its an incredible amount of work but it would be such a blast! Team MLT is the best on the planet. Love you!

  11. Whoa… Now that’s quite the extra footage and BTS in depth opportunities to have shared with us here…. So beautifully Mystical, incredible, enthralling, captivating, Poetical…. Groovy and beyond. I can see why a car, map, various video/cameras and their equipment extras were needed and used, the drone offered most spectacular views…. No matter time of day, weather or locations, all was worth it and you came back with a gem’s wealth of creative Keepers digitally to be then used for future music purposes and such. Well thought out and fun and working hard had by all… No one was harmed in the makings, I hope…. Thankyou for sharing, Inspired indeed????

  12. Nothing Is In Vain was the perfect song choice. You could have shot it there and it to would have made the song.
Beautiful Breathtaking scenery. It really is a Family Affair ( Sly and the Family Stone).
Love the views from the drone. Lisa is right, ” it’s one he’ll of a view”. I know why Mona didn’t sit next to the window, she wanted to make sure that Lisa didn’t fall out. Then Mona knew she would be ok???

    1. I agree Rick. Nothing Is in Vain with the deluge followed by the rainbow was just the icing on the cake perfection to this video. 🙂
