Close To You – Duo Session

An acoustic version of “Close To You”

Our Duo Session corner has been one of the busiest spots in the house lately. Besides preparing some new videos like this one, we are also using it for our daily Jam Sessions, as a song writing corner and practise spot. Sometimes it becomes a temporary storage for Mona’s house plants while she repots and rearranges our ever-growing indoor jungle. In times like these, making the most out of the space between your own four walls is key 😉

If you cannot be close to those you love right now, we hope you are keeping your head up. For all the downsides of the internet, it does allow us to stay connected with friend and family. This Club continues to make us feel closer and more connected to you guys, the people that listen to our music. We are appreciating this now more than ever ♥

We hope you enjoy this video and send groovy greetings,
Mona & Lisa

  1. Sitting with my headphones on, listening to Close to You, waiting for my Deb to come home from errands to spend her birthday with her…hopefully the good times won’t stop lasting!

  2. Hi, I love this beautiful performance. Thank you very much for your filming efforts and posting the lovely duo sessions, which in my opinion are the highlight of your art.
While watching, two questions came to me, I wish Mona or Lisa could answer:

    1. Mona is keeping the rhythm with her powerful right hand strumming (John Lennon style). My question: Are you using a metronom click in your ears when recording? How do you set the right tempo when you start the song?
    2. Lovely lead singing by Lisa. The video let us see for the first time which one of you is singing the lead. I am not always sure who is the lead singer when I listen to the record (audio only). (For example it was nice to see Mona as the lead singer on Sweet Lorraine…) My question: How do you choose which one will sing the lead? Is it the one that actually wrote the song in the beginning? (In the Beatles for example, the lead singer is almost always the original writer of the song…)
  3. Love this song from the Orange Album! One thing to point out is the fantastic rhythm playing from Mona! I say this because for Lisa to do what she does with the riffs and leads ( which is out of this world ) you need a strong rhythm playing to drive that part of the song. In the Rolling Stones 1969 tour with Mick Taylor, Keith Richard made a point to drive the rhythm part of the songs so Mick Taylor and do what he does best. So Mona and Lisa you both compliment each other so well , thank you and blessed to listen you and enjoy your love and spirit of music that you make your own!!!!

  4. Why does this song make me cry every time I hear it, but I can’t get enough of it? And another thing, it sounds reminds me of Fifties music in the best way, but also sounds fresh and modern at the same time. I’ve noticed that a lot of MonaLisa Twins’ songs harken back to classic eras of rock and pop while also sounding up-to-date; it’s easier to understand in my heart than to explain, but it’s fantastic! Mona and Lisa and their band are truly gifts to all of us and to the world! Not only is their music and singing so good, there’s something about them and the way they play and sing it that teaches into your heart and deep into your soul. They are so gifted, and such a blessing to all of us!! Wow, I have such love in my heart for them! And I love all of you!

  5. Ola Groovistas,
being new to your music, it took a few plays of your Duo Sessions to realise this was an original 😀 The same with All About Falling in Love. Both of these intimate, stripped-down versions suit the songs perfectly 🙂

  6. First time hearing this songs. Really great lyrics and harmonies and great lead and rhythm guitars.
    Ladies you are amazing.

  7. I have now noticed that Lisa’s fingers are longish and tapered, perfect for playing these lovely guitar instruments.
And I wont need to comment any farther, since you all here say it so well.

  8. This session is great. Lisa’s solos are kool. Precisely relaxed. I love watching her play.
I gotta say these harmonies are incredible. I love how your voices are so similar that it can be difficult to tell you apart , but the more one listens the truth be told they are two distinct, yet equally beautiful voices.
We all have a goto music collection, perhaps albums you have been listening to pretty much forever.
They are always on the playlist.
Orange is definitely one of those albums I will be listening to for the rest of my life.
count on me to listen one more time

  9. Absolutely love this song, liked this song from the first time I heard it. One of my favourites along with June. ? Hope you’re all well.

  10. This is really a wonderful song. The version on Orange is very good, but this is amazing with just the two of you. Your voices are beautiful, the sound of the guitars is super (in particular the Gretsch). Many of your songs are covers, but this one isn’t as far as I can tell. Who wrote this? (forgive if I am asking stupid questions, I am rather new here).
By the way congratulations with your birthday!

  11. What a wonderful display of harmony and guitar playing. You really nailed this one. I’ll be listening to this song dozens of times.

  12. This is one of my favorites on your orange album ladies and what a great job! Again the vocals and harmonies are awesome and beautiful to listen too! You both have this down to a science and makes me feel so good to listen to you both sing and play! Yes the world is not in a good spot at this time and hopes are there to get back to the life we all know and love. But with your love and support and great music, you make it so much better for us to know that ” we are all in this together ” and there is a light at the end of the tunnel! God bless you both!!

  13. I can’t help but be drawn back to this acoustic version over and over. Your harmonies are so incredibly sweet to the ears! Irresistible!!!

  14. Truly a beautiful performance. Your ability to create such a full, robust and engaging sound with just your two voices and guitars leaves me uplifted and amazed. Thank you girls for all the many wonderful things you do, and for being the beautiful individuals you are.

  15. What a nice surprise! I had no idea that form part of the Orange Album. Delicius melody. To tell you the truth, I havent got any album from you yet.
Very good performance, very good sound and listening your voices, guitars I feel happy. Thanks once again Mona, Lisa and others.

  16. My oh my! Wonderful (but sad!) song! Maybe the good things won’t last but I will have you two in my heart forever! Keep the love coming! We all need it right now!

  17. Once again ladies, you didn’t just hit a home run (American Baseball), you hit it out of the “flippin” park. I have always loved your harmonies but this duo session really show-cased your truly amazing harmony ability.

I agree with several other MLT Club Members comments to please consider taking this to YouTube etc. Thanks for sharing this wonderful original song of yours via the duo session.
    Again, “Thanks for the Memories.”

  18. This song is the one that really got my attention when I first listened to “ORANGE”, so I’d love it even if you played it on kazoos.

  19. This has been one of my favorites from MLT. I really like it and can imagine there is a back-story. Makes it kinda scary to lay personal stuff out there in a song. But, you two did great on this job.

  20. This is my favorite song from the “Orange” and I have been waiting the video from this. Now it came and this acoustic version is just wonderful. Thank you so much and happy weekend !

  21. This song is beautiful! Thank you for uploading this! I definitely have a time in my life that this song touches and I’m glad you still play it!

  22. This is just sublime ladies. So much to love about this duo session. The music, the lyrics, the harmonies, the colours and the photography with those beautiul smiles shining through as always. So nice to see an original in your duo sessions. ?❤️

  23. Oh, how I love the Duo Sessions! Not only this is a fantastic song, this strip down version proves it tenfold. Amazing how well the arrangement works. The two guitars play off each other so well. Mona’s rhythm is genius, and Lisa’s Gretsch sounds fab!
    Love it!

  24. Close to You is how I feel when I’ve got your CDs spinning in my car as I travel my route every night.. your CDS..whether it’s the Beatles and More or your originals make my work a lot more pleasant and enjoyable…Close To You and Club 27 are my favorite songs on the Orange album….Lisa, one of the things that bring me GREAT enjoyment is watching you play that lead guitar and you have such a beautiful singing voice it just melts my heart ❤️ and Mona I love watching and listening to your harmony while you’re playing guitar..harmonica..foot tapping..drumming…and ooohhh and aaahhhing…and oh yes I love it when Mona get to sing lead..you really “rock” and it shows in yours eyes and facial expressions that you are having a blast when you’re rocking out…this may sound corny but I Thank the Lord for bringing the MonaLisa Twins into my life and keep me entertained…Thank you Mona..Lisa..Papa Rudi..Michaela❤️

    1. Agree, nicely articulated! The magnificence of Mona and Lisa’s singing and harmony truly shine here, that sets them apart from anyone else on the planet! As well as that wonderful sweet lead guitar riff throughout, love it!

  25. After I heard this wonderfully Beautiful song for the very first time . It reminded me of a girl I use to fancy ,from the neighborhood I grew up in. Bittersweet memories from long ago. If I ever get back to playing guitar again, this song would be my first song to learn. Not sure if I could hit those high notes like Lisa but I would give a try. and those amazing harmonies by Mona wow. Thank you Ladies.

  26. Exactly the Groovy Kind of Upliftment We All need, and you’ve chosen the best song to compliment this with, I”ve enjoyed this simplified version as much, equally as with Orange Album version….you both just light up creative music fires and keep the MLT BuzzGroovyLuv Embers, stoked and going…Thankyou for doing this song, helped in uplifting my spirits after yesterday’s emotional meltdown I succumbed to due to isolation blues, it was my turn for having it finally get to me, but am feeling more like my happy ajax self today and this brought and even wider smile in my heart and on my face…My gratitude for your Positivity is beyond words, and my spirit soul Thanks you for reawakening from its gloom of yesterday??☮

    1. I’m glad you have your happy ajax feelings back Jacki! Your positivity and MLTBuzzGroovyLuv is always welcome (and nowadays necessary!) Stay groovy with us!

  27. WOW! Y’all knocked it out of the park with this one. I like it better than the original (but I’m an old “folkie” who likes live acoustic versions better anyhow)!

  28. I just noticed after watching the video for the 6th time that the “MONA” capo is on the Fender guitar in the background. First time sighting of that capo. The “LISA” made it’s appearance month’s ago on the Cordoba guitar. Back to the video again because it’s “Time to listen to the MonaLisa Twins”.

  29. One of my favorite songs from the ORANGE album and love this version. Thanks for doing a Duo Sessions version of it. Stay safe and enjoy this time of extra family closeness.

  30. All my vocabulary of praise and thanks i have already said to you. one more gift, and another special Friday .
    I love the Duo Sessions
I love ” Close to you ” and
you look more beautiful every day.. Stay safe and groovy dear girls. Hugs.

  31. Oh I love this! Such a sweet melody and beautiful singing and harmony, and lovely guitar riff throughout. I adore “Close To You” for its moving lyrics and melody, such an awesome song. I like that added touch of the tremolo modulation effect on that guitar lead in Lisa! Lost count of how many times I hit the replay and re-watched the video.

By the way, these days hunkering down at home, I can keep track of the days of the week by your wonderful Tuesday and Friday MLT Club posts that I always look forward to.
Thank you so much for this!!! 🙂

Perhaps down the road it might be an idea to post this duo session on you tube for all the world to experience this incredible gift of MLT music heaven!

  32. Perfection! As always! I see Lampi Bampi is still missing in action. But is that the creature on the back shelf from your Kitchen cabinet?! Thanks ladies! Hugs!

    1. I think Lambi Bampi decided to do an extended stay in Austria with the grand parents on that last Christmas time visit.

  33. Ladies, you have never sounded better. I happen to have a private, rare Live version of this song from your opening act for Steve Harley.
Many people may not know that this Amazingly Superb song is from your Original Phenomenal Album Orange.
We all wish we could be Close To You/each other during this unprecedented time. The song speaks for the longing of a long ago love, or friend, who has gone on to other things. But nothing lasts forever, My oh my.
How we all wish we could be with family, loved ones, significant other, or perhaps close friends.
You may not agree, but I would personally love to see this song be splashed on Social Media. I think everyone needs to hear it, much like your Extraordinary Cover Wish You Were Here.
Thanks again Ladies for brightening my Week and Starting May off with a Bang.
Stay safe and well along with your Amazing Team?❤

  34. Phenomenal how you ladies can produce amazing studio quality performances effortlessly!
Love this wonderful version of one of my Orange favorites. I especially enjoyed the added harmony trills – your voices were superb. These Duo sessions are awesome -thanks Mona and Lisa!
