  1. Despite the “politician” of the title, I don’t see this as a particular critique of anything current in politics. The rich have bought politicians since the House of Medici and likely millennium before that. To me, this song is most akin to George Harrison’s “Got My Mind Set on You,” where money is one means by which he intends to win the object of his affection. It’s an “All’s fair in love and war” kind of thing, though with a great deal of humor about the power of wealth. That’s why at the end of the song I’m not thinking, “Throw the bums out of office,” but rather, “If Lisa and Mona want to buy me, my price is quite reasonable. I might even offer a rebate!”

  2. Yes, very appropriate for todays world, I do like the previous comment by Ron, with ref to DT – can’t always get what you want! This album should do really well; catchy and pleasant underlying humour. I look forward to the whole compilation.

  3. This song sounds soooo goooooood!!!!!!!

It has this driving melody that just grabs and captivates and keeps building in intensity, and you don’t want it to end. It’s irresistible, and hypnotic. I want to listen to it over and over. What magical song writing! You’re doing some great stuff ladies!

  4. It is excellent!! So is “Janitor Joe” which makes me really look forward to your next original Album. They are like appetizers which makes you even more hungry for the main course!

I love all you do as you know, but there is nothing like an MLT original to bring a huge smile to my face and totally make my day. 🙂

    Thank you!

  5. Very nice ! The shuffle rhythm brings lightly Loving Spoonful to my mind. You are also developed as a lyricist very much and no one have ever doubt your skills as musicians. Again so great and tasteful guitar work ! These two songs you released from future album makes me wait for the album so much !

  6. What an excellent song! Tasty solo in the middle, with lovely backing vocals and what sounds like an accoustic bass? The lyrics express your disdain remarkably well, poetically so I might add… Ken Hensley, who died recently and whom most will know from his early years in Uriah Heep, voiced similar sentiments when interviewed in 2020, and said his song, “Secret”, encapsulates his viewpoint. His lyrics refer to those who want everyone to think alike– ghastly thought. Thanks! I

  7. This is such a powerful and stand out song right from its very title, so many people will get behind it. Its musically superb with such a catchy melody, and the lyrics are brilliant expressing a message that is so true and at the core of the politics behind so many troubled countries today. Absolutely remarkable song writing, in the league of the great music legends. Can’t wait for you to drop this truly remarkable bombshell of a song on the world. People are gonna love it! ????????????

  8. Look up Genius in the dictionary, if it doesn’t say “MonaLisa Twins” then it’s not a good dictionary!
Thank you for proving me right over and over again! So many pearls… ???? ???? ????
In the vein of CCR’s “Fortunate Son”, but it has a great Cabaret/Carnival feel. Clown world.
    Thank you for your courage!
Right now, this is my favorite MLT song, and that’s saying a lot!

  9. Hi Mona & Lisa, Just listened to I Bought Myself A Politician; Another Cracking MLT track. Cant wait for the Album. I tell you something, the lyrics on this song are very near the truth, I reckon, probably nearer than ‘they’ would like us to believe. Look after yourselves, and as always, please Stay Safe [Don’t want you qualifying for Club 27!] Andy

  10. It’s easy to buy a politician, isn’t? English is not my language, so I have to listen it many times (with pleasure) to catch the whole lyrics, but it’s very current lyric and, once again, a great music.

      1. Oi Antônio! As we say here in Brazil “Tamo junto”. It’s a way to practice our English with good music.

  11. you guys are the gift that keeps on giving. thanks for the great tune and very clever lyrics. it’s very courageous to write to write a political song but i think you wrote it in a way that each side thinks it’s about the other guy. very clever.

  12. Of course this had to come out while working as a nurse in the busiest part of the jail. In Salt Lake City, we let our crooked politicians walk and throw the book at the homeless and mentally ill. But, I digress. So, I had to wait several hours before I could listen. Wait…what did I just hear? The more I listened, the more I loved it. MLT truly have their own signature sound!!! This gives a nod to Roger Miller, but it’s completely original. I’m hooked!!! I love the humor, clever lyrics and just melt with those amazing voices and guitars!!!

  13. I love it! It’s got that old timey song feel to it! The guitars sound great as well as Mona’s drumming as usual! and naturally those famous MLT harmonies! The song is very GROOVY!

  14. I’m smiling because I can’t wait to see what happens here. After what seems like a decade of strenuously avoiding getting mired in politics, you dove in headlong. I feel like you had to know that this could be like kicking a hornets nest. And yet, you punted that baby. This feels like the flip side to the Byrds’ “I wanna grow up to be a politican”. It’s a classic buy vs. build proposition. 😉 If it turns into a mess, Janitor Joe will have to clean it up.

  15. Another nicely crafted song which demonstrates your penchant for catchy lyrics and melody. As always your harmonies are sublime and coupled with your instrumentation iit certainly hits the right “chord”!

  16. Can I borrow just one of those Politicians, I have a slew of questions I would like to ask. But that’s just me. Amazing song and a little bit of good humor!!! I think John Lennon would have loved it. An election year just passed us by so besides Covid it was a crazy year!!!! Thanks for the song, great lyric’s, arranged very well, of course the vocals were as always great and you could put that song in the Roaring 20’s, thirties, etc.
It works very well. They would have to be Groovy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. I was under the impression that a trip to America wasn’t feasible for the foreseeable future, but it seems likely you jetted over and spent about twenty minutes on the Mall in DC. An accurate reflection of what’s going on here, to echo Tony Pinkney. Your take is fun, funny, yet qualifies for the “if I don’t laugh, I’ll cry” category of current events. Brava!

  18. It is never a bad time to be political but now is a great time and you do it so well. It does not matter what the country, we all need saving from ourselves….don’t we!!!
As is usual with both of you, it has the harmonies, instrumentation and lyrics and nice beat to want to play it over again & again. Can’t wait to see what you might do for the video.
Thank you for your music and of coarse, Stay Groovy!!.

  19. I absolutely love this song!!!! Considering the political environment here in the States, it’s relevant and timely!!!!!!!!!!!!

  20. Hi Mona, Hi Lisa.. I loved the melodic line, instrumental line and harmonies of your absolutely wonderful and, always pleasent voices…About the lyrics of the song., as I said before I don’t speak English very well., I can read, but listen it’s hard for me, but I’m evolving, so I managed to understand a little bit of your message. In my opinion, politicians are like a weed in the gardem.. but I loved your new song.. stay groovy.

  21. Love this song! I’m promising you health I’ll save you from yourself that’s how I’m gonna try to get you to comply if I even have to lie and so that you will let me buy you too. Love that line! Great song !

  22. You guys! Another great one. Also, congratulations on the marathon. I’ve already played this song about eight times. It sounds better each time.

  23. Wonderful composition! (Was that a little nod to Rock Around the Clock at the end?) I’m a bit late to add anything that hasn’t already been said, except to note that with this socially conscious protest song MLT has covered another space on their 1960’s Bingo card.

  24. Oh yeah… you really have drilled down to the core of the matter haven’t you! Cynicism is best when raised to the level of art, and you have truly achieved this. Musically, this is exquisite. It incorporates some intriguing chord progressions while never straying off the tune’s endearing and familiar groove. The strong beat grabs you and pulls you along like a tractor beam while the harmonies and lead guitar provide irresistible flavor. So enjoyable to listen to over and over again. My god what a treat this new album is going to be!!!

  25. Please don’t start down the rabbit hole of getting political. Others who went this route experienced the beginning of their end. Please just keep it about the music. Take care.

    1. The best music comes from the heart, though. If a song doesn’t have meaning then there is little point. A songwriter has to write about what’s important to them. It’s when the motive is a political one rather than a creative one that it can become a problem

      1. Glenn, thank you for your comment. I appreciate your explanation and I agree. However, not everyone shares your logic. Unfortunately some people will read this as a declaration. Not all politicians can be bought and since this song doesn’t clarify that it adds to the assumption that all politicians are dishonest. I truly love the talent of the twins. They’re great. Take care.

    2. Great artists since the beginning of art expressed their political morals in their art. There is nothing in this song that MLT have done with taking a stand on a principle that other great artist have not done like John Lennon, Bob Dylan, Beethoven etc…. It is not specific and open to interpretation and not meant to offend all politicians (unless you are a politician for sale). “Beginning of their end” is a bit harsh Darrell. Anyway, end of my thread so as not to distract from the friendly atmosphere of the Club.

Beethoven admired the ideals of the French Revolution, so he dedicated his third symphony to Napoleon Bonaparte… until Napoleon declared himself emperor. Beethoven then sprung into a rage, ripped the front page from his manuscript and scrubbed out Napoleon’s name.

  26. Ooo you tricksters. You had me laughing out loud at something that really isn’t funny at all. Brilliant! The only question is where you got so much money! lol

  27. WooHoo, #MLTBuzzLuvGroovified it perfectly… Love the lyrics, the sound, etc, it all compliments and intertwines perfectly for a catchy, clever song…The upcoming new original album and these pre-releases from it, it’s gearing up to be a definite humdinger, Keep on, looking forward to future pre- releases , You’ve definitely went on a creative adventure musically, lyrically … Quite impressive, , Thumbs Up Fab !!

  28. This would get one play in Chicago and Illinois. Then the democrat machine would cancel it. But, they should be forced to listen to it a few times.
Good lyric about the press being in the back pocket of politicians, especially democrats.
That is why there is no criticism of Hunter, Kamala or Joe, etal.
    Good song.

    W. Hauslein

  29. Love this song! Clever lyrics and very appropriate for the world we live in today. The music is perfect for the lyrics and I love the tune. Just a great song. I can only imagine the video. Can’t wait. Way Groovy!!

  30. I have always loved songs that humorously make a valid point. (“A Well Respected Man”, “Taxman”). And I haven’t heard one in so long. Until now. Being an American, we need to send this straight to the White House! And I love the melody. It really fits what you are putting across. Judging from your first two singles, this new album is going to be incredible. It will certainly be well worth the wait. Thanks again for sharing!

  31. A great tune that is so absolutely pertinent for the times! I played it over several times and enjoyed it more each time. It has just the right mix to be a hit with everyone, except maybe “politicians”:-) I just luv it!

  32. Oooh, love that bluesy feel right from the get go, I just find myself unconsciously swaying to the wonderful rhythm of the song.

How brilliant the lyrics, humorous and smart, and such a wonderful melody. Certainly rings true to the political state of affairs in many places around the world.
Delightful guitar work throughout that keeps building up, and those solo guitar runs are so niiiice, and the singing and harmonies are absolutely delightful as it pulls and captivates, all feels so wonderful!

Awesome poetic lyrics. “I bought myself a politician…they’re currently on sale, they’re even cheaper if you take a pair….” Priceless!! 🙂 John Lennon couldn’t have said it all better himself.

Wow, song is all so brilliant and clever, love it!!! Your song writing is taking new heights, outstanding!!!

  33. I loved it!
What a way to start a weekend. Thanks Girls.
The Complexity is in the Simplicity. Great arrangement and Lisa very nice Guitar work. All of the different instruments blended so perfectly.
As Artist, Singers and Songwriters, your growth is amazing to watch. With each new project the bar gets raised a little higher.
So gifted, so talented, so beautiful.

    Love and Hugs

  34. What a fabulous song! I love that you have entered the world of social commentary. That was such an important part of 60s music. This song reminds me of Pete Seeger, The Beatles, John Sebastion and even your very own Sweet Lorraine. Very well done, Mona and Lisa.

  35. I’ll admit…when I saw the song title, I groaned a little in anticipation of a lecture, and was pleasantly surprised to discover that it isn’t an explicit manifesto of what to think, merely a suggestion to think.

What a clever job of threading the needle. I’m sure we all have personal theories on the specific subject or subjects that inspired it, but we’re just projecting our own views onto the lyrics. I hope they never explain what they had in mind; it’s far more effective if it’s left up to the individual on how to interpret it.

  36. Brilliant! Very apt for the times we are all living in….
Aside from the message within the song, fantastic guitars and vocals yet again. Love it!

  37. Priceless. Truly priceless.
Harrison never mentioned that the Taxmen had owners.
Ladies you have raised the bar. Congrats.

  38. A very nice foray into the political/protest genre. The melody is catchy and the lyrics topical but fun. A very nice original. I’m going to listen a few more times and see if I can figure out all the lyrics and how to play it.

  39. Wow what a great catchy tune for our Friday! So cool , vocal’s , drums, guitar, song writing at it’s best here folks. Words say it all!! LOL…What I have been talking about all along, these ladies can deliver the goods, not just one style but many styles and do such a good job at it. The beauty of this journey is seeing how they evole with their music and keep it spot on, not falling off their rails or getting carried away they stick to their craft and make it better and better as time goes on. Mona and Lisa thank you so much for this early access this song is in my mind all day and I love it!! God bless you both and as always keep it coming and no matter how long it takes, it is worth the wait!!
    Love it!

  40. Intriguing, like a ragtime/cabaret. Really catchy tune. One that sticks in your head. Pretty much like all politicians do. So it seems.
Really enjoy the change of pace. When you go in a totally different direction, do it in a way where you not only grab everyone’s attention, but do it in a way where the song stays in your head. I’ll be humming this for awhile ????. Thanks Ladies for this Incredible special treat! BTW, did the No More Worries Company Girls have anything to do with the Purchase Of A Politician? ???????? ???? ???? ???? ????????????????????
    Rick Ross

  41. The lyrics are witty enough on their own; basting them in sweetness (the “ooohs” are an especially nice touch) adds an extra layer of bite.

  42. Such a catchy tune, and i love the lyrics, saying something about the state of affairs in some countries, great that you also comment on things like that. Can`t wait to hear more from the album

  43. Wow, this is really good, once again. <3 I’ve always said it – your original music needs to be heard by much more of the world! And I certainly want more of it 😛
Thank you for sharing these with us, so soon after they are created. 😀 Keep up the great work!

  44. I’m back again (after two long years of illness… we are still alive and prepared!). The theme of the song is very original…. with the always fresh air that you have… in addition, I think it is a faithful ironic reflection of our world society…. bravo!.

    1. Thanks and welcome back Jota, we’re so sorry that you haven’t been well. Keep your head up, and we hope there are lots of brighter days to come!

  45. Very clever, and sadly poignant in the current political tragi-comedy we’re having to endure. Once again you’ve created a song and tune that is light on the ear and – despite the subject matter – leaves a warm glow in our hearts. Thank you! Can I also congratulate you on your ultramarathon exploits. You may find that one is not enough! Marathons and ultras are a very healthy addiction!!!! Take care, and stay groovy!

    1. Thanks George, mission accomplished 😉
I know! We’re already looking for new races to sign up to (A 10k and half marathon are already booked) but we’ve got to pace ourselves or else we spend too much time running!

  46. Excellent ladies. Something completely new from you. I can’t think of anything else that you have done that’s similar. However, I may pick something up after a few more listens. I’d love to see a copy of the lyrics.

  47. SO original! I don’t know how you come up with ’em, but I’m sure glad I’m along for the ride with the rest of club MLT! What a groovy, tongue-in-cheek (and sadly accurate) commentary on today’s society. If you’re in the market for an American working-class guy who obviously loves great music, my price is quite reasonable; I can literally be had for a song!

      1. No, Christomir, I wouldn’t allow myself that fantasy. While I’m old enough to marry both(about twice their age), I had more of a figurative meaning in mind. However, personal handyman to the Wagner family (alongside PapaRudi, of course) would be a dream job!

      2. Haha, I know… I was just pulling your leg. 🙂

I myself wouldn’t mind becoming a part of their team (in some capacity) either. 😉 Though, knowing myself, I’ll admit I’m probably not the best guy for the job 😛

      3. And, BTW, I’ve met the Wagners in person, so I know what I’m talking about 😉
They are great people, and I’m sure would be a delight to work with (or for). 😀
