Club 27 – Early Access (Lyric Video)

Gather ’round, you girls and boys …

Official Release Date: June 16

Before we start, let us say we know the timing of this release might appear a bit morbid, but we’ve always had a slightly macabre sense of humour, so please let us get away with this. πŸ˜‰

We are turning 27 in less than two weeks, so we just had to create a video for this song off our album ORANGE. The “27 Club”, for those of you who aren’t aware, is an unofficial list of talented musicians and artists who have passed away at this young age, so the song was written as an homage to them and their music.

Now, we don’t have the slightest of intentions of joining that club this year, so rest assured this isn’t an announcement! We’ll keep eating our vegetables and putting on our seatbelts … We’ve got a new album to finish anyway!

The video was created and animated by the two of us. We enjoyed playing around with it and using some new animation effects that we hadn’t explored previously. We know it’s “just” a lyric video but again … we’ve got a new album to finish! πŸ˜‰

Here is to all the talent lost too soon and the magic they left behind,

Mona & Lisa

  1. The video works…it just works! Why?

    1. The lyrics are very important, especially since phrases and such pertain to artists who are no longer with us.
    2. With that, the emphasis on the departed musicians is clearly imparted by Mona and Lisa.
    3. The black and white video shows the great unknown, like a dream. We know there is a heaven, but who knows what it is like?

Well done ladies, and so appropriate. I know someone asked about shooting a regular video for “Club 27”, but the video works…it just works. The proper genre for this outstanding song!

  2. I’ve listened and commented on Club 27 before but what the heck I’m doing it again. Great Lead Lisa and both of you are ROCKING!!!!!!!!!!!! I will listen again and again and again!
Groovin’ in Club 27!!!! Thank you, Walt Music

  3. Happy 27th Birthday to the two of you! I may have just joined the Club, but I’ve been a fan following your work since back in 2015. Love this track (“morbid” or not)!

  4. A fun video and a nice idea for your 27th birthday. I’m not much for superstitious coincidences; one never knows what life will bring, but I’m betting you can count of multiplying that 27 by more than 3 as you plan out your life. Happy 27th birthday and I hope to be listing to your music for many years to come!

  5. The best {indeed only} way to immortality is to have your memory kept alive, and that’s what you two are doing to these musical greats of yesteryear. Keep up the great work, and look after yourselves {don’t want you joining them in heaven for a long time yet – heaven can wait!} Also, Happy Birthday both, cards for you are in the post as we speak. Xx Andy.

  6. Great song and yet sad, I have covered a lot of their Music.
December 8, 1980 is one of the days the Music died, one of the worst days of my life. Janis, Jimi and the rest are still in
my heart but Imagine what you will hear beyond those gates!

    Stay Groovy

  7. Love the video, very creative and quite hypnotic, goes perfectly with the song. What stuns me is that you can rock as hard as Hendrix or Cream, and on the other end of the spectrum you challenge Joni at her own game.
    Truly mesmerizing.
This song is out of this world: drums, guitars, vocals, all of it. Did Janitor Joe have anything to do with it?

  8. Happy 27th Birthday!! My Daughter just turned 27 very close to you as well. Both of you I consider as my adopted daughters. When she was young she’d sing in the restaurants and soon all of the employees had to check her out. She’d spend her days with me as I ran my Nursery and made many overnight deliveries in the Spring. We ate at many places throughout the PNW.

She even had similar looks like you, long blonde hair. Due to where I work [highly paid contract work in the middle of nowhere with no phones, internet, or cell service].
I have to drive quite a bit to a Cafe that has free wi-fi. I do not see them often right now and we rarely text and then came covid. She as you guys are, is pursuing her dreams.

A very very good song. Unfortunately too many in the music world died young. But in a sense, you are keeping their memories and work relevant for today. None of us can escape death.

  9. “Club 27” is a real rocker whether heard on the album or in a lyric video. A great original from “Orange”. You girls are too young to be 27. It must be a mistake!

  10. Hi Mona, Hi Lisa… Club 27 is one of my 10 favorite songs ???? from the amazing Orange album..this wonderful graphic art and the energy of the song, resulted in a mesmerizing video..I loved it. About the release of the video on the day you turn 27 ..on the one hand it’s funny ..but on the other hand., as another fan said in the comments … I’ll breathe easer when you turn 28 ..I love you both .. stay well and be safe.

  11. So cool we have been talking about this song in the discussion of the Mona Lisa Twins club and this song is a gem of a song and such a tribute to the great artists who have gone way to early in life. The drumming on this song by Mona is outstanding and the guitar work from Lisa is spot on. If this a sign of things to come on the new album we are all in for a treat. Mona and Lisa original music is special and heart given. So glad I found Mona and Lisa their music and positive approach to life is welcoming in 2021. Thank you both for you taking the time to share with us, you both are the best .

  12. I did not realize how many musicians had left us at this age. This gives me a new appreciation for this song. Ladies keep the wonderful music for another 27 years( X2) !

  13. I think it’s groovy! Yes 27 is a bad number for many of our great musicians and movie stars. So put on those old blue jeans. Rock and roll down to the floor. And don’t stop rockin until the clock rings on June 16th!

  15. Super song. I know it of course from the Orange Album, but good to hear again. Is the guitar solo at the end played by Lisa?
i suggest you do not join this club and have a healthy long life!!

  16. Thanks for filling me in on the meaning behind the title. I thought I was up on things. Don’t know how I didn’t realize those folks all died at the same age. I guess I think more about the folks in Club 40 more (if there is/were such a thing).

  17. This is pretty kool. The animation syncs perfectly with the music. I like all the scribbling in the beginning. I was thinking that would be when my eye lids would be clamped open while the video played over and over. Seriously though, you did a great job on this. I like how you reused β€œIt’s worth your” by not erasing all the way between the wait and your time.
β€˜This song totally rocks, too. The guitar solos have that Wagner Sound. I love how you can write and sing such beautiful ballads and then surprise everyone with kick-ass songs like this. There was this other group that did that, but I can’t remember Who they were. ????

I can’t wait to share this. Recommended volume for Club 27 is eleven.

Twenty-seven was half a life ago. I hope your 27 is filled with happiness, health and great music.

    JP

  18. A fun watch, and I’ll bet you had a blast making this! I wonder if there are different levels in Heaven; I sort of hope not. While I’m pretty sure I’ll avoid Lucifer’s clutches, if I just make the cut into Heaven, instead of seeing the shows in Club 27 I’ll end up being the guy sweeping up afterwards.  So, fingers crossed, no levels.

  19. Very cool animation! Yes, please ignore joining that club ladies, I know you’re much smarter than that anyway! Now to go watch “June” for the billionth time!

  20. Terrific! That’s one of my faves from “Orange”; great song, great record. Love the video now, too. I’m really looking forward to your new cd. Brava, Ladies, rock on!

  21. Of the many amazingly creative videos you’ve done over the years, I think this is one of your best. And neither one of you even appears on screen!

  22. A great song, one of your best, that I really love.
Wondeful animation…I guess you did it yourselves? (I saw in the past that you also work on photoshop and video editing software).

    1. Thanks Lior! Yes, we drew/recorded the video on an iPad Pro and later pieced it together in our video editing software. It was a surprisingly efficient and fun workflow that we tried out for the first time. Glad you like the song and video!

  23. I don’t believe any of the members of Club 27 planned to join but it is an interesting situation in the live fast, die young mentality that many early rock n roll musicians practiced. All young people think they are immortal until they aren’t. Anyways, Club 27 is one of my favorites from the ORANGE album and I think it’s the kind of song that will get widespread appeal when it’s on YouTube for the public to hear. It could be your first Original that gets a million hits. Is this the same mix that you used on the album or did you change it some?

I hope someday you do a collaboration with Sina on drums for it live sometime in the future. I know she would like to do it.

  24. Frikkiiiiin Fab Stellar Creativity done here, compliments the song perfectly, yes, a dream fulfilled, to have you do a video of sorts for this song as I hoped you’d consider doing, what a pre-Bday Gift, Luv, Luv , Luv it, in my head for a long time it will be… I can still envision you both playing surrounded by holograms of these Club 27ers in my mind… WooHoo, applauding you on quite the #MLTBuzzLuvGroovified Effort done here…
So captured the Vibes and Essences of the song Eminating Truly, Thankyou????????

  25. Ladies, its Dynamic! No finer licks have ever been. Played on a Guitar ever! Lisa, your Gretsch is really singing on this one. Not leaving Little Sister out at all. Mona you sounded like you were having so much fun getting under Bis Sis skin with your Crash Cymbal hahaha ;*) and your drumming is superb!
I can imagine this is what you envisioned when you first started taking Guitar and Drum lessons.
Ladies, please don’t apologize for giving us such a special treat like this! ????????????????????????
When I first heard this song on Orange I thought to myself… I hope they make a video one day. When I read the first couple of words today, I couldn’t sit still long enough to open the email YAYAYAYAYAYAY!
    Thanks so much Ladies!
I’ll be singing this one for awhile
All the best with much enthusiasm
    Rick Ross

  26. No apologies needed, love the video – love the tune – sorry forgot about this one as I’ve not played the Orange album for a while but a great reminder – now reloaded into my cd changer for the “On The Road” (that’s on repeat 6-12hrs per day whilst I’m working) experience, I really do hope many more people pick this up from you tube – it’s a great way of saying “Thankyou” to all the greats we sadly miss, here’s to your LONG and Fruitful Career – make sure you get that new album finished , just itching to hear some of the new stuff you’ve been cooking up in your lockdown kitchen. Love N Best Always P:)

    1. Thanks Skippy! We finished a new recording literally only a few minutes ago. Can’t wait to share it in the Club again first but for this one we really want to make a video too πŸ™‚

  27. What a great way to listen to one of my very favorite MLT originals. Very creative and lots of fun. Good to hear you are focused on the new album! My dream is to see you perform this song live on a tour of all your original works some day. Mona has to hang her guitar up and step back to the drum set to play this number though. Wow, what a show that will be. I will keep eating my vegetables too so I will be around when it happens!

  28. Sharp guitar work as always by Lisa. The drums were pounding, loved the sound Mona , it reminded me of Ginger Baker. Only downer was not seeing you two.

  29. I can’t decide which is my favorite song with Mona on lead – nut this is sure one of them; fantastic! Might be a good poll question – favorite song with each twin taking lead vocals?
Your talent and creativity never cease to amaze me; very cool graphics and effects. I’m looking forward to you being 27 and happy and healthy and giving the world your amazing talents and gifts for many, many more years – after all it’s a long way to Ringo and Paul’s ages…

  30. Hey Mona and Lisa, this is absolutely brilliant!!!! I love it!!! πŸ™‚ I can’t wait to share it when it is posted on Youtube. Listening to Club 27 with those awesome animated lyrics and graphics, takes me back to the incredible experience of the Pink Floyd and AC/DC Laser Light shows that blew my socks off. Only thing that could be better is to see you both smoke up your Gretsch and Rickenbacker’s knocking out these incredible howling guitar sounds, but that’s what the imagination is for, for now. Man, you never cease to impress with your creative talent and imagination here. Your Club 27 is right up there with the best of the great rock classics from Hendricks to Zeppelin to ACDC! Bravo!

Yes, happy birthday and stay safe and healthy, and keep up with those marathons too. After we are all gone, you have to continue your music creation carrying forward that torch of the great music making tradition that passed from Beethoven to the Beatles to MLT and on and on into the future. Maybe in your later years as you continue making music like Paul McCartney, Ringo Star, Brian Wilson etc…you can do a follow up to this song, Club 97 or Club 107! πŸ™‚

  31. Cool. The song is a great homage to those artists. I can remember the sadness of those losses and my disappointment, somewhat selfish, realizing there wouldn’t be any more creativity of their music to enjoy. A perplexing time for my young mind.
I am looking so forward to your new album!

  32. I’ve been hesitant to say anything, but since you put it out there, I have to confess that I will breathe easier when you turn 28.

  33. Great idea for the launch date! Though we lost so much talent at that age, many more equally talented artists lived and are living long past that ominous number by far. Live your lives with no regrets like you do now and all will be more than fine! I ???? the animation and especially the beyond cute way you spell “shure” (European influence, I assume). You two made my whole weekend (at least!) with this one, and never cease to amaze me with your fringe talents we get to glimpse here in the club. ROCK ON! ????‍????????????????️????????️????????‍????

    1. Thanks for the really kind way of pointing out a typo πŸ˜‰ We fixed it right when we read your comment and re-uploaded the video. I must have been thinking of the microphone brand β€œShure”!
Glad to have made your weekend β™₯ THANKS!

      1. Awwwwww…I shure didn’t want you to change it! I thought it was adorable! You gotta realize (realise in Europe, I’ve noticed) you need to throw in an occasional tiny blunder like that just to prove you’re human! I assumed it was just another alternate spelling kinda like favor and favour, etc. We all think you’re both perfect just the way you are! You shurely don’t need to try so hard to appear so!

  34. 2 words………LOVE IT!!
Thank You Mona & Lisa for getting my day off to a great start.
    Love & Hugs
