Did You Ever Have To Make Up Your Mind – Early Access

Official Release Date: 15th March 2019

When John came over to Liverpool to shoot the music video for “Waiting For The Waiter” with us we also recorded and filmed something for one of our favourite The Lovin’ Spoonful tracks that he had written back in 1965.

We have a very clear memory of going for a run through the fields back in Austria, sometime around 10 years ago. We used to do so in the middle of the night, carrying a tiny mp3 player with built-in speakers, so we could listen to music together while jogging through the fields. This might sound a little weird but being the night owls that we are, we loved being out in the moonshine, with music and the endless planes surrounding our village. Anyway, we clearly remember this song coming up and us stopping our run just so we could listen to this cute little song in awe.

Now, stopping for the song might have been an excuse to have a little break but we also couldn’t help but point out the arrangement of the harmonies and the sheer perfection of this simple, yet effective and funny little song. It literally stopped us in our tracks! 😀 Something about it felt perfect to us … the humor, the arrangement, the melody and lyrics with its tiny twists and turns. Such a well-crafted little gem.

When we asked John if he wanted to record it with us, he was immediately on board. We really crammed in a lot of things during the few days that John was in the UK but despite the jet lag he was an absolute champ about it. 100% professional, and he immediately felt at ease in the studio and in front of the camera. It was a real joy and inspiration to watch!

Now we hope you’ll enjoy the video and send you all lots of love!

  1. This was the video that started it for me. In my youth, John and The Lovin’ Spoonful were my favorites, kinda folky, kinda rock and roll, just a Groovy group to listen to. With John in this video, and you two singing back up, it’s just too far out. I dig how Lisa is grooving with the music. So much fun. Thanks for great music, Mona, Lisa. Peace, Love and Happiness

  2. A few minutes ago I had only the music. Now there’s also the video and I have to make up my mind and decide which one is better.

  3. What a terrific version of a true classic! The chemistry and friendship between the two of you and John is obvious and shines brilliantly. The respect shown to the original is impressive as always but having it built around John makes it truly special (of course a cameo by Papa Rudi adds to the fun). It amazes me how the MLT team is always able to come up with original ideas for the videos you create and it is always a holiday when one is released! 🙂

  4. What an incredible crafted video to accompany a classic song…and in my humble opinion, this should seriously get an award for outstanding artistic content given the hours and hours of hard work you have probably spent perfecting it..I love it… I applaud you and thank you for your continued dedication and passion in all you do…..Thankyou Team MLT

  5. I’ve said elsewhere that I have two lists of potential MonaLisa Twins videos. The first is the list of videos which I await with the patience of a child on Christmas eve. The second is a list of songs that, for one reason or another, I expect will never get made or released. This song was number one on both lists! Thank you so much!

  6. We love it; we love it…and oh, by the way, we love it! What a great new new musical version and video of a Lovin’ Spoonful classic. And that mystery man who played your father — what a cameo. Great graphics. Those ’60’s songs were just too short.

  7. Wow.. just wow.
It just shines all around. I’ve always liked John’s music, but now I’m appreciating him in a new light.
I love all the little subtleties.
    Awesome.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.

  8. This is just so much fun! Thank god I don’t have to make up my mind and leave the other behind. I get to have both! Life is good! Thank you team MLT!

  9. I just made up my mind….”I love it”. Great way to start off my Friday. So looking forward to follow up video’s!!! Thanks MLT

  10. Awesome! Always a favorite of mine, I was hoping you would record this song. It’s definitely a fitting song for you because, how would a young man choose one of you over the other? You are both so beautiful, nice, sweet, intelligent, talented, creative and the list is endless….
Great video. Great song. And a great reason why we (fans) can’t make up our minds…
Lots of love to you both, and also your family and MLT team!

  11. What a treat!!! I saw the post on FB and when you told us that it was an “old friend” I kinda figured it was John S. Still seeing him and listening to the song brought back memories from the 1960s. You did a great job on the video and I really like the collaboration with John S. Mike.

  12. What an absolutely brilliant video with the wonderful sweet singing, bright colors, and clever animated drawing and lettering. The lyrics of this song is portrayed so perfectly by the both you singing next to John Sebastian and then Papa Rudi jumping in as the disapproving father ejecting the boy . It’s all so cleverly done, and you both are as wonderful and sweet as ever. And seeing John again in one of your videos is a real treat! Loved everything about this video! And Ladies you will both always be “..that 1 in the world” with all of your fans here. 🙂

  13. My favorite TLS cover! So fun to listen to and even better to watch! I’m glad I don’t have to decide. My mind was made up 19 years ago. ????

  14. I loved this song on the CD .. I heard hundreds of times.
Now I will see hundreds of times.. Girls you’re fantastic thanks..

  15. Frikkin Awesome Fab and Quirky Whimsical funny… I ???? it…!!!! I love all the animated elements… Rudi is hilarious… John was cool dude as always… What a lifetime thrill and opportunity this was for all… And it clearly shows ????????????????????????????❤️☮️????????????????????????️????️… Quite Groovy ????????????????✌️????????????????????????️????????????????

  16. Ladies, this is Spectacular! Wow! Beautifully put together. Has all the 60’s designs in it including your Mini Dresses????❤. Rudi is wonderfully funny as “Her Dad” ( which He Is). ????
John Sebastian makes great references to you both.
I know it had to be great fun and a Groovy Blast to sing this with the legend himself. ( you all are legends too.
Thanks again for such a great rendition of this song????❤❤

  17. I can never make up my mind which sister I like the best, either. Well, considering that I don’t have a realistic shot with either, I guess it doesn’t matter. 😉

  18. Another gem Mona and Lisa. I’m an old Lovin’ Spoonful fan, and this was one of my favourites of theirs. This version is now my favourite of course. Just so well sung and filmed. Good to see Papa Rudi with a cameo role showing just who’s boss once again! “Darlin’ Be Home Soon” is probably my favourite from John Sebastian, closely followed by ‘Younger Girl’. Ever given a cover a consideration? Thanks once again for making my day!

    1. Great words of praise Howard, and your fantastic suggestion of ‘Darlin’ Be Home Soon’ would make an incredible cover, which I’m sure M&L would perform with perfection…this is probably my favourite song by JS,I play the very powerful and emotively charged Woodstock version to many friends who have never heard it ….and they are totally blown away.

      1. Peter….I couldn’t agree more! Could you imagine the harmonies that they could develop for that song?! 🙂
