I Bought Myself A Politician – Early Access

Official Release Date: 29th August 2021

Last week we spent three full days filming at an old historic country house. More correctly, we spent three nights filming there as we needed constant lighting conditions and were doing most of the work once the sun had gone down.

The estate – Eriviat Hall in the Welsh county Denbigshire – dates back to the 1400s. The mansion is filled to the brim with paintings, decor and furniture from the last centuries, collected by the generations of families that used to own it.

From the entrance hall to the staircase, the dining room and lounge, even the refurbished coach house, it made for the perfect location to let our character tell the story of “I Bought Myself A Politician”.

Today we’re ready to show you what we got up to! As you will see there were quite a lot of costumes involved! Since the house is mostly rented out as a wedding venue, we were lucky to have an extra large dressing room to accommodate just for that, too.

And as a first for an official MLT music video, we also incorporated indoors and outdoors 360° footage to show off the band and all the various characters for the grand finale.

We plan to publish the video to our official YouTube channel on the 29th of August, but for now the video is exclusively reserved for the MLT Club.

The support of all of you in the MLT Club, as well as additional donations from individual fans, are what makes a project like this possible, so a special thanks goes to those of you who support us financially in a way that lets us bring our visions to life! 🙂

We hope you’ll have as much fun watching the video as we had organising and filming it!

  1. I’ve watched this a ton now and in spite of all of the brilliant ideas that went into it, what stands out to me is simply the belief and confidence. The look in Mona’s eyes at “There’s something that I really want to do” especially captures it. Also, I’ve seen the Rick bass before but this is the most prominent showing of it yet that I can recall so maybe it’s time I follow suit (I play a Hofner bass but am looking at a getting a Rick as well). Great video!

  2. Wow! Every time I watch this, I am more amazed at the work and imagination that went into this! Great job ladies!

  3. Loved the video, nice work Papa Rudi!! Love the song and the venue. It’s just too close to the truth. Sad, but real. Loved the humor in the song and in the video. You all ROCK!! Lots of love, hugs and warm wishes. Thank you for the entertainment. 🙂

  4. I’m thinking one of the Monas in the finale might actually be Lisa: the one at the top of the stairs in the blue gloves. Am I onto something? Or am I just on something?

    1. David, you might be onto something, but I need to relax my squinty eyes. It could be Lisa, but I really can’t say for sure. Good spotting, though.

      JP

    2. Hi David,

I have been away and only had my eyepad, but now I am home again, I like to be here when I can. I just watched it on my big screen and I really think that is Mona. So, maybe you are on something. Ha, I could be wrong. I think we have all mixed them up at least once, maybe twice?
But I could totally see them doing something like that > yvoorg yats

      JP

      1. Well, what made me suspicious was the fact that her hair is pulled back, as Lisa’s already was. Maybe they’ll weigh in at some point to solve the mystery.

  5. I really love this new video and song. Very playful with tongue in cheek, however real truths I’m afraid. Love it to look so surreal and creative. I’m afraid I’ll need to pay my friend to react to it. So far, he’s getting some to ask for Mona Lisa reacts other than me. Trying to get the word out one person at a time. Lol peace. Stay safe everyone. God Speed. Stay Groovy ????

  6. When you think it can’t get any better, MLT takes it up a couple of notches!
What a fantastic video! Every little detail and reference is just AWESOME. Can’t stop watching and finding more references!

  7. Great song and video, and absolutely mind-blowing from a technical perspective. Love the fish-eye lens stuff. Kicking the inflatable globe is a fun reference back to Charlie Chaplin in the movie The Great Dictator. Has that location been used for any movies? It looks familiar. Great job!

  8. Excellent song and video ! I may be wrong but I think this is a first original MLT song that social comments in its lyrics. Lisa´s lead vocal is superb and all Mona´s do excellent job too. Nice guitar interplay in the instrumental part. Happy new week, ladies !

  9. Oh wow, that was excellent; what fun, and you couldn’t have picked a better group of people to make fun of.

This video took me several views to see most of what’s going on (I’m sure I’ve missed a few things). Here’s what I learned:

o It only takes one Lisa to corrupt a whole host of Monas.
o Don’t drink orange juice. It’s on Lisa’s list and she may have corrupted it.
o Pigs can sing, or at least the boars can.
o Lisa has even corrupted a little green alien.
o Lisa knows what she’s doing – she has her ducks in a row.

I hope the YouTube crowd likes it; I love it. Great video and song!

  10. Wow! What a fantastic video set to a really catchy song. Such musical, acting and filming skills all in one. Very impressive! Clearly a lot of hard work and attention to detail went into this project.

  11. Mona and Lisa, you always deliver! This is so good! I can imagine the work, the time and effort, all the details, that went into making this video. Wow! And I love how you always say “Thanks for watching” at the end of your videos. That’s very classy. And I must say it reminds me of The Beatles bowing at the end of each song when they were in concert. What you share with all of us is worth more than all the money in the world. I hope you both know how much we all really love you. David 🙂

  12. Hi Dear girls.. I just loved it..the song matched perfectly with this great video, the costumes, the amazing location… there is no other adjective that hasn’t already been said here by the other fans.. Lisa you were perfect looking really like a tycoon., by the way a beautiful and graceful tycoon., I always saw in Mona a bit of an actress.. she played so many characters in this video, I especially loved the graduate, the bank teller and the airline pilot.. congratulations dear girls And also for Rudi and Michaela they certainly contributed a lot to this wonderful result. I can’t wait for the new album., but do everything in your own time.. thanks and stay groovy.

  13. You took just about a week to put it all together? It’s amazing! That’s what the world needs most, a lot of Mona and Lisa. During the video it came some situations in mind that it happens in our lives, unfortunately not with the same mood. Great music and video! You were eager to release the video, now I am eager to share the video, it will be a huge success. Waiting for 29th.

  14. It looks like those are Yankee ‘Benjamins’ Lisa is passing around in Wales.
I guess the dollar is still good for bribes in Europe/the UK.

One little critique. I don’t think the real owners like having their picture taken.

    But once again ladies…
George Harrison never mentioned that the Taxmen have owners.
You have raised the bar. Great job.

      1. LOL, oh… so I guess you were joking?

You got me there for a minute. 😛 I thought you had seen something in the video, and were commenting on it 🙂

      2. Just the scene where Lisa poses for a picture.
I though about referencing the scene in the Wizard of Oz …
“pay no attention to the man behind the curtain”, but now i have.
The movie and the Frank Baum book are dripping with metaphors about congress, bankers, everyday people (farmers in the 1890s) and the gold/silver monetary standard.
Guess who the man behind the curtain represents.
Big hint – it’s easy to buy a politician or two when you print the stuff.
        Cheers

  15. When you indicated this was the song you were shooting a new video for, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. Nice. I wonder if the building inspired the costumes, or you sought out a building to match your concept.

Wow, I can’t believe you did this in a week. Although there must have been a ton of planning prior to filming, It looks like you filmed for three days, took a nap, drank a cup and then got down to editing. And then a few days later it’s done. It seems like back in the hey day of music videos, productions like this took months and cost a gazillion dollars to produce.

The Mona Band is fantastic, and the Tycoon is so sarcastic. The song was already great, and this makes it even more fun to listen to. You pay so much attention to every detail, that I am sure we will be finding new surprises with each view. I know from reading through everyone’s comments I already have some items to go back and watch for. The production team has done it again. Congratulations on creating another masterpiece.

Now, I want to watch it one more time, cause that funny money in the picture above looks pretty authentic. I thought I saw a familiar pair of socks, too.

    JP

I would love to introduce this band
    Ladies and gentlemen, may I present…The Mona’s
Look out, here come The Mona’s
You can never have too many Mona’s in the house

    1. Even for MLT themselves, for their first ever scripted music video – “The Wide Wide Land” – production did take months, from January to March 2013. 🙂 It didn’t cost a gazillion dollars to produce, just a lot of hard work. Of course, back then they were still learning to do this (though the video still turned out beautiful). Now. they have gotten so good at it, that they can achieve the same quality much quicker… especially with the editing.

  16. Well done Mona, Lisa and the team on another fantastic song with such a focussed message for our times. John Lennon would be proud of you. Love the singing bears heads on the wall at the end and the guy wearing the anonymous mask. Right up my street and a catchy tune to boot!

  17. This song and video are chock full of imagery, meaning, musical tunes via lyrics, costumes, location, and Mona and Lisa. All paint a picture and meaning with a message. It might be fun to buy a politician one day. Many others do, or so they think. At least in the USA.

After viewing it 7 times, I slowed it down by 50%. I then saw all that is transpiring. It is easy to miss a great deal at regular speed. There are surprises around every corner!

    Kudos to all!

  18. OK, this was awesome!!! Besides the amazing voices, guitars, and clever lyrics, this is very humorous. I had a good belly laugh when I saw that Mona was Lisa’s foot stool. Also, when Lisa was in the bath with her magnifying glass and rubber duckies. I love that not everything has to be a love song. Very original MLT sound. BRAVO and kudos to Mona for all those costume changes.

  19. I can’t improve on the superlatives offered here from so many other fans, but I can say it is a great song and the video is so over the top. I played it several times before I took the time to comment. Mona sure must have been super busy playing all those parts and changing costumes so many times. But I’ll bet she didn’t mind really; most young women can try on outfits all day without a whimper. Lisa’s outfit just fit the part of the tycoon. Plus, she looked so pretty just throwing money around.
This is another winner for MLT. I want to also thank Rudi and Michaela for their work
behind the scenes. I’m so glad to see you all working together on the projects.
That is so special in itself.

  20. Probably says something about the human psyche, but I liked the song even better when watching the matching video!
I wonder if, as a child, Lisa ever had nightmares about having a dozen Monas as sisters 🙂

  21. A brilliant and well crafted video. A catch number, performed in your usual inimitable style with great lyrics and harmonies. I would certainly agree with earlier comments that its very “McCartney-esque”.

  22. Now that’s what I call entertainment!!! So clever, polished, and perfectly produced. The setting, those costumes! Just brilliant! And to think this is the product of just a family of 4 doing what they enjoy the most. If this was done -music and video- anywhere else it would literally involve an entire musical and video production crew of 100’s of people. And even then it would most likely be lacking in creativity and pure musical enjoyment. Congratulations on a real Masterpiece. You are going beyond incredible!

  23. So, there’s an old quick riposte that goes something like this:

Person 1: “My face really hurts.”

Person 2: “It just hurts? ‘Cause it’s killing me.”

I watched this a number of times and my face hurts from the intense smile I could not relax. Great tune, great fun, great production, and now I’m just waiting for the antidote that is the sadness of real-world political corruption as it rears its ugly head again.

Hey, Team MLT: a beautiful job here!

  24. Great video and song! How many change of costumes did you have Mona? The 360 degree shot was exceptional with the doubling of leads. Way to go guys, as always you continue to impress me to no end!!!! Congrats!!! That was Groovy!!!!

  25. I absolutely love this song, the video is amazing…… I can’t wait to share it with friends on YouTube.

  26. The video is beautiful.A lot of work has been invested in it (I hope pleasant work). In general, I did not expect such a concept song from Mona and Lisa and was surprised for the first time from the audio version. And there is still a lot of humor invested in the video ( or am I wrong?).Mona and Lisa are here as actresses. Don’t think that you are playing your roles badly in the video, but I can’t help myself now.But it seems to me that the cunning villain who buys everything and everyone is so cute and the politicians and the opposition and the judge and other characters are just so charming…♥♥♥…I watched it several times and this video really brings joy.But hey, villain, why are you kicking Mona?
It seems to me that in the future you will make more than one concept song.
    Good luck!

  27. Enjoyed the video a bunch. Liked the multiple Monas and the overall feel of the song. Very McCarntey-esque when he would do old-time songs (Maxwell, etc.) with a touch of George’s cynicism. Other than that I could draw some present day comparisons in the US but it would likely get me in trouble. Mike

  28. Wow! the the video is Amazing, Loved this song from the first time I heard it. Thank You very much for sharing this. Now I have to watch it on the big screen. Just keeps getting better. My favorite little corner of the internet.

  29. I absolutely love it this is best video you’ve done. Well done your voices go together so well. This song will go down as a classic

  30. Outstanding – heard the song a while back and thought is was good but it didn’t quite catch me – perhaps a little to frivolous – a bit like Pauls Frog Song – but with this video and the creative flair as it’s been produced is so captivating and brings the song to life in a totally new way – making you listen more intently – and this song is probably your best ever – joyful – tuneful – satirical – George & John would be proud of you both, not forgetting the master behind the scenes your fantastic dad – Rudi whom I suspect had a lot to do with the visuals. I hope this gets the exposure it deserves and in these time really should as to prompt a message the the greater masses and make them think twice at the way our governments work. Bravo Girls – Love It – Happy To Support Your dreams.

  31. Nicely done, I think I’ve watched it 4 times already. It was a fun tune to listen to, and it’s even more fun to watch.

  32. O.M.G. I cannot stop watching this. What can I say …..brilliant. I always thought the vid to m.Maxwells silver hammer was good but this just knocks that aside. Love you girls.

  33. Wall-to-wall Monas with a Lisa in the middle It doesn’t get much better than that girls As usual I love it♥️♥️♥️

  34. What an elegant, cool, witty and humorous video, all so cleverly done. Brilliant! Love it!

It is always so delightful to see a room full of gorgeous Monas or a band comprised of Mona clones, and the awesome Mona army on the stairwell! And Lisa dressed up and shined wonderfully to fulfill the role of that, cute, posh and charismatic tycoon.  Nice white Gretsch guitar, and love all the various costumes, you both look awesome in them, and impressive mansion!

As always, top notch superb video production, that is so fun and gives this magnificent song a wonderful premise! And what a song it is, so powerful with such a driving catchy and captivating melody with a very meaningful and relevant message for these times. Heroic artists, you both rock!  🙂

  35. OMG Welcome back to the video’s Mona And Lisa!! Bravo!! Such a brilliant job with this one for sure, I simply love it. From the setting to the acting to the 360 view of the band and hum….maybe a little guitar battle there Mona and Lisa? Outfits are beautiful and very clever and hope Mona is ok with the little kick from Lisa….Don’t want to see a battle here between the twins….LOL…I Stick to what I have been saying all along…WELL WORTH THE WAIT!! You never lets us down and what a great way to kick ( no pun here Mona sorry ) into the weekend. I can’t wait to show Maddie when she gets home tonight from Summer Camp, she will love it like I do. So glad to be a club member , this is so much fun and working on the puzzle over the weekend. Does not get better than that folks. God Bless you Mona and Lisa and hope you get a chance to relax a bit after all the work you put into this great video.
Bill and Maddie Isenberg Huge Fans from Pittsburgh pa USA

  36. WOW!!!! So much deserves mentioning here, but I’ll try to restrain myself. Gotta start with how much I appreciate the nod to George’s “I’ve Got my Mind Set on You” singing boar’s head, even though yours are much more convincing! Nice to have a special effects master in the fam, huh? Was the Mona political science grad #2 stumble scripted, or a priceless, spontaneous tidbit left in for our enjoyment? Now that you’ve mastered cloning Mona, is Lisa next? When you get the procedure perfected, please send some of each to the states. We need all the quality humans with your caliber of talent we can get! Thinking back to Mona’s answer to how she scaled the straw bale in “June”, now you’ve each served as the other’s ‘footstool’. And who knew the Pope could have so much fun playing ????! Couldn’t stop dancing around while playing! BRAVO, you four! INSTANT CLASSIC, and sooooo much fun!

    1. Good call on that George reference, Jeffery! I’ve long wondered whether George’s den in that video was partly inspired by the animation in the Groovie Goolies songs.

I’m guessing that Mona’s stumble was deliberate, but maybe I’m just spoiled by the standards of the all-time stumblemaster, Dick Van Dyke.

      1. Thanks, David. I’m afraid I’m not familiar with the Groovie Goolies. I’ll have to look’em up. That George vid was really ambitious, considering special effects depended largely on crude robotics and other simple tricks back in the day. I always enjoyed the alternate vid for that song, too. As I recall, Dick Van Dyke did a full somersault over an inanimate foot stool at the start of some of his shows. Thankfully not a human one like Lisa’s! I’m leaning toward, and hoping Mona’s mini-trip was accidental. That would just add to the adorable nature of it! Stay healthy and groovy, my friend!

  37. I love it, I love it, I LOVE it! I liked this song when you released the audio version but the video is absolutely great! Lisa looks beautiful as the protagonist! And Mona is lovely too! Does the scene where Lisa kicks Mona over prove that Lisa is the evil twin? (jk) I don’t see how you accomplished all the costume changes and multiple bandmates in just three days! Take some time off, you’ve earned it!

  38. The 360 with all the jazz-hand Monas! LOL! The world can’t have enough Monas. 😀 Another great job ladies! Brilliant.

  39. Wow! Okay, that was pretty terrific. It’s kinda hard to mention all of the things I liked about the video. The setting was great, the costumes spectacular, The Band, I loved the band, all the different costumes Mona was in, Lisa was stunning looking all throughout the video, Mona went from cute to chic, to funny and to elegant. With Mona and Lisa and all of their beauty you are always in for a nice visual video, however, this one was extra special.
I truly appreciate all of the effort, thought and work that the MLT Team put into this video.

    Simply stated, Wonderful!
    Love and Hugs to all.
    Gary Bergen

  40. What a great music video! I love the way the camera just follows the action, and that outdoor 360 shot, oh my gosh that’s so cool! It certainly does justice to such an awesome song. Luv It!!!

  41. Whoa, WooHoo, Kudos, Stellar, Luv It, and agreed, the estate was the perfect creative playground to let loose your visions for the video concept, the costumes, perfect choices, all worn fab, and the idea of showing all the band, etc, just topped off the creativity concept . Very pleased and ecstatic at this. It was definitely worth the waiting for, worth your time and efforts putting into this all, and the world will be surely in awe and smiling and loving it, come August 29th . A round of applause and encore for a superb effort , amusing, top notch deliverance. Beyond 5 Star Rating, more like A Gazillion Star Rating… Indeed Quite #MLTBuzzLuvGroovified am I… A fab way to make a Friday and start to a Wknd….Thankyou, Thankyou, etc… ????????

  42. Hey Mona and Lisa!

You are wonderfully imaginative, wonderfully creative and all around wonderful performers! That was just a great song and super fun video! It’s always so exciting to see what you’re going to come up with next! Your music and videos are so fresh and alive, even your covers. I rarely listen to the original artists anymore, which is kinda bizarre as much as I love 60’s music. In any event thank you both so much for sharing your talents with all of us. I’ll be watching for your next posts.

  43. There are so many wonderful things I could say about this music video but I will use just one word, fantastic. For me, this is your your best since “One More Time.” As a fan of your music, it is fun to see the two of you grow from your teenage years to adult woman with new subjects for your music videos but still retain your unique MLT approach. I know I have said this before, but say again true, very well done. But I do have to wonder, does Mona get bonus pay for having to play so many parts? 🙂

  44. Encore! Encode! This is Fabulous! What FUN you all had changing outfits! Especially Mona!
Loved the Band! They were Fantastic!
You will have to tell us about your Guitars you used! Especially the Ricky and Beautiful White Gretsch! What an extra treat seeing Mona on the Drums!
Guys! I was really Touched to see Lisa’s Socks!! They are in a World Famous MLT Video!!!!!! ????????????
Thank all of you for a Most Fun and Enjoyable Video. I will play this many, many Times!
    Rick

  45. What an absolute delight that was to watch! Looking forward to the behind the scenes on this one. There is SOOO much going on!

  46. Wow. This tour de force reminds me of your full-on video productions back in the day. This one might be the most impressive of all with the video effects. Really really well done! Mona, how many costume changes was that?

  47. Thank you! That’s incredible! Just watched it 4 times in a row.
I can’t wait until the official release date to publish it on my telegram channel. My subscribers will be happy, especially in view of the coming parliamentary elections in Russia in September, where all the real opposition is either imprisoned or expelled from the country, while the fake paid “opposition” is sitting there in the Russian parliament doing nothing useful. Exactly, as you say: “I also bought the opposition”. BTW, as in many other countries, the yellow bathroom duck toy is one of the symbols of protests and anti-corruption movements in Russia as well.
If not a secret, how did you manage to make so many Monas in the moving frame? Will really appreciate your answering, as I’m thinking of creating my music video with a similar effect.
Ok, I’m going to watch it for the 5th time now. 🙂

  48. White gloves playing guitars!!! Such class!!! You don’t have to buy me as the song says, I will gladly give myself to you! Great work ????

  49. This video is absolutely amazing – a tour-de-force of Mona and Lisa’s many amazing talents. And of course much admiration for the video / production artists Michaela and Rudi. I have to admit I’m a little sad that these lyrics have just a little too much reality to them given the current state of world affairs, but I understand the artistic license Mona and Lisa use to poke a little fun at the situation – “I can get one from jail”, for example.
There’s so much here to love! I can’t decide what I love most – the many faces of magnificent Mona? The angelic lead vocal and beauty of lovely Lisa? I think the dual guitar solos in the 360 shot were phenomenal, and with all the beauty, cool guitars, and Mona on drums, that scene might be the winner.
Ladies, you are incredible in every way and I can’t be more grateful for all you do for your fans! Thanks for another great start to the weekend! Best and blessings to you both snd your family!

  50. OH WOW! Fantastic! I really love your video. I understand now when Mona mentioned the 19 costume changes. You both looked great in them. Love the song too! The wait was well worth it. I plan to play it over and over. Thanks! And thanks to the MLT family for this great video.❤️❤️❤️

  51. Wow, what an incredible amount of imagination and work went into this video! And it definitely sets a Guinness world record for most Monas in a mansion.

I love how the otherwise political shopping list includes orange juice.

    1. I, too noticed the orange juice, but quite blurry on my laptop. Also thought I saw ‘mask’, appropriate to the times, unless it was ‘milk’, but not certain. I can’t wait ’til the 29th so I can pause it on the big screen and hopefully read the whole thing!

    2. Oops. My bad. I got a good, clear pause now. What I thought was mask or milk turns out to be ‘media’. Cool how they worked the MLT trademark happy word orange in, tho!

    3. There is so much going on in this video that I didn’t even think to read the list – I love the orange juice in the middle of the list – glad you saw it.

  52. Once again,I’m amazed!!! You ladies never cease to WOW us all, with your creative genius.Loved this song from the first time I heard it in the clubhouse.
And as usual, your Beautiful personalities shine thru!! Can’t wait to see what you have in store for all of us in the coming months.

Love and Hugs to Team MLT

  53. Absolute genius! WOW! What you did with the video is nothing short of magic! I’m stunned that you managed to do this in less than a week. You must be exhausted!
Thank you so much. You sure spoil us club members!!!!
Will have to watch this multiple times as so much happening… lovin’ it!

  54. I love this one, the melody, the lyrics, and the video. I think you got a potential hit there. I notished that every time i listen to the song, that chorus sticks in my head for hours, it`s extremely catchy. Great job
