Sightseeing in Hamburg – “The Waterfront” – Photos

Last week we uploaded some photos of our explorations through the inner city of Hamburg that we took on our Germany trip earlier this year.

Today we’re walking along the waterfront together and are visiting the famous Elbphilharmonie, one of the world’s largest concert halls. If you are not familiar with it, it’s that shiny, wavy looking building with the reflecting mirror windows that can be seen from almost everywhere in Hamburg. A truly amazing construction, both architecturally and acoustically, that cost over 866 million Euros to build!

We didn’t see any shows there but we went to the observation deck halfway up the building and got some impressive views across the city.

So that’s another virtual city walk for this week. What’s the last trip you took before the lockdown?

Stay groovy,
Mona & Lisa

  1. Last trip was to Daytona Beach FL for business reasons. Went to buy inventory for my business. Luckily I did since they started the lock down the next day and I wouldn’t have gotten first dibs on buying what was available from one of my better sources. Last pleasure trip was to the mountains of North Georgia and North Carolina to see the fall leaves. Wasn’t the best fall leaf trip we’ve gone on but it’s always a crap shoot as to when and where you manage to find the peak areas since they change so much each year. Good BBQ though.

  2. Wow! Such a beautiful city!
    Love the pictures.
3 stunning rainbows in the pictures. Loved the lock bridge too. (They had to take the railings down in France because it weighed to much.)
The last trip I took was a trip to Louisiville, Kentucky.
6 1/2. Hr drive each way.
36 hour trip 15 hours in the car.
Very quick trip, but very much enjoyed seeing family. ❤❤❤

  3. What beautiful scenic shots and remarkable architecture that conveys the unique character of Hamburg. Best of all, lots of awesome shots of two cool, classy ladies!!! 🙂
That one shot with the rainbow and bridge is really something.

My last trip before the world wide lockdown was last October when we did a 7 day east coast cruise from Montreal to Boston. That feels like it was ages ago now with how the world has changed. Thanks for sharing these, really enjoyed your virtual city walk tour!

Picture below is from Quebec City where we spent a day from the cruise.

  4. Beautiful photos, brings back memories. I worked there on a big shipyard at the docks, for 8 months, in 2002, and took the opportunity to visit all the Beatles sights too. My last big trip was actually to Hamburg in January, visiting a german friend i got, while working there

  5. Great photos once again MLT. Thanks for posting them.
It’s a welcome diversion from being cooped up at home at the moment,
Although I now understand why dogs get so excited to go for a walk!!!!

  6. Whoa, most intriguing, in awe, and… Lol… Your one photo in the mix, reminded me of here, your photo of being on the Beast Escalator going wherever you were, we now have since September, an LRT system, well Phase 1 so far and we have the distinction for now, in either North America or maybe in Canada of having the longest Escalator which I dub “The Beast”… I rarely take it… Lol… Heights and me don’t jive and gives off vertigo possibly…. But as for rest of photos here you ‘ve shared, stunningly stellar top notch, definitely can feel the Hamburg vibrancy, Thankyou ?☎️??

  7. You guys sure do burn a lot of digital when you travel! Good thing nobody uses film any more! We didn’t take any long trips before the lockdown, just visiting friends and going to church (which we miss terribly). Seeing you and your family’s adventures is such a joy! Thank you so much!
