Surprising Dad With A Hammond Organ – Vlog

We got him a what?!

It was Dad’s birthday last week (March 4th) and we managed to pull off a pretty damn cool surprise for him, if we may say so ourselves!

A lot of the birthday presents we had planned for him over the last few years, including his 60th, unfortunately fell through for one reason or another … remember the two years during which we weren’t allowed to leave the house, and things got cancelled left, right and centre. So we decided to go all our for this year’s birthday. If anyone deserves a big surprise, we think it’s Papa Rudi. 🙂

Ever since we can remember, Dad has been talking to us about one day wanting to own a real Hammond organ. A Hammond is an electric organ and originally, they were made as a cheaper and smaller alternative to pipe organs in churches. However, from the 60s onwards they started to become popular in rock and pop music. Think Gimme Some Lovin’ by the Spencer Davis Group, A Whiter Shade Of Pale by Procol Harum, Like A Rolling Stone by Dylan, etc.

Well, early this year we were browsing the internet a bit when we came across a new listing of a ’71 Hammond C3 with a Leslie speaker. It had just been overhauled, wasn’t too far away from us and reasonably priced, so we had to jump on it.

Did we have the space in our house for it? No.
Did we buy it anyway? Yes.

Michaela lured Dad away from the house to go on a short birthday trip to a cozy log cabin in the countryside and booked him an off-road motorbike day at the Mick Extance Experience facility. Dad LOVED it and naturally, he thought that was his big birthday present.

Little did he know that the two of us were rearranging his studio back home to make room for a 450lb heavy and huge Hammond & Leslie speaker.

Dad walked through the front door without the slightest hint of an idea and you can see his reaction in the video … we think the surprise was a success! 🙂

The house has been loud these last few days but everyone has been wearing a bigger smile than usual on their faces! 🙂 We cannot wait to use the Hammond on many recordings to come and are itching to start writing for it soon!

Happy Birthday (Dad), we love you!

  1. A wonderful present! When I was having lessons as a kid, my organ teacher had a huge Hammond C3, which I loved. Nowadays I make do with a Roland VR/09 which, for the money, does a half-decent job of emulating those old tonewheels, but there’s nothing quite like the real thing. Papa Rudi certainly has the keyboard chops to get the best out of it!

  2. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest (think Seattle),all bands from the late 50’s until Heart had an organ and many had the Hammond. Dave Lewis had 2 Leslies connected to his, every skating rink had organists playing – no records but live music. Might be why I choose to play organ when I could no longer dance

  3. Just watched this wonderful feel good video again. Just super. The organ made me think of a short lived Canadian band Mashmakhan with their 1970 #1 Canada single ‘As The Years Go By’. As this is a Canadian band most of you I’m guessing will not be familiar with it. Hope you enjoy. 🙂

  4. This is what family is all about. Knowing or finding out what someone wants over the years and finally obtaining it when it is really unexpected. If done right, as here, it is priceless, will last forever and just increases the family bond and love further (even if you thought that it was not possible).

  5. So cool and so fitting for a dad with so much talent. I absolutely loved this! You three ladies are so sweet to honor Papa Rudi like this! 💛❤️🫶

  6. thats great. that opens so many possibilities for covers. here is a suggestion. good lovin by the rascals. its a great rock song that pappa can be featured on with his new toy. plus i think you guys would do a great job covering it. think it would be fun.

  7. Well Papa Rudi deserves it…great job by the 3 of you to get a working plan and making it happen…..can’t wait to see what musical direction this takes the songwriting to…HAPPY BIRTHDAY Papa Rudi🎂❤️🧡

  8. Wow, what a cool surprise!! I can’t help but smile almost as much as you all do throughout the video 🙂
Hope Rudi is having a lot of fun with it and that we might get to listen to some of it!

  9. I cannot wait to see more new 1960s cover songs and originals with the Hammond organ. You have to do cover of Won’t Get Fooled Again by the Who.

Anyway, Happy Belated Birthday Papa Rudi. Like others have said before, he is lucky to have the three of you.

  10. Just seeing this now and a belated Happy Birthday to Pa Rudi, us March birthday’s are really groovy I must say!! I am in good company with Pa Rudi. Yes Lisa hope your hands are ok it appeared you had some gloves or bandages on them? But thanks for sharing and one song that fits this organ is Time of the Season!

  11. Deep Purple’s Jon Lord swore by the Hammond C3, playing it until his retirement from 1967 – 2002, even after other technologies came available.

  12. Wow.. by Papa Rudi’s reaction you were right on target. making someone you love happy is priceless..so when I watched this video and I saw you all happy..so watching this video is priceless too..but I have a question..Dear Lisa what happened to your hands? Stay groovy dear Wagner family.

  13. Mona and Lisa, that has got to be one of the most amazing things you can ever do for your Dad! Fair play with the motocross adventure and making it such a surprise. The Hammond (both B3 and C3) organs are the benchmark of so many R&R bands from the 60’s onward as Ari mentioned below. I’m blown away so I can only imagine what Papa Rudi feels like!
The first Hammond I ever heard live in a rock band was played by the late great Jimmy Greenspoon of 3 Dog Night and I’ll never forget it.
Congrats Papa Rudi and well done girls!!! I can’t wait to hear it in upcoming recording ventures.

  14. Wow ! Hammond organ is a very essential instrument in vintage pop and rock music. Keith Emerson and Jon Lord smile in heaven when papa Rudi jams with his organ.

  15. What a beautiful surprise you have done to your dad, we can see in his eyes and his big smile how surprise he is, you have made him very happy. So we will surely hear the Hammond in the future, Happy Birthday Papa Rudi.

  16. WOW, how cool is THAT?!!! You girls and Michaela really knocked it out of the ballpark!
His face said it all! Enjoy your Hammond and Leslie Rudi!

  17. Girls, thanks for sharing such a wonderful birthday surprise video of your gift to your dad,! i can just see him playing it every chance he getslol

  19. Thanks for sharing that great surprise with us. You ladies are more than thoughtful.
I know you all will have much enjoyment, with the new addition to your studio.
What a super birthday surprise. Have Fun Rudi.
    Best Wishes Always,
    Bobby S.

  20. Marvellous idea and a well-executed cunning plan. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Your dad looks as pleased as punch.
Well done and thanks for sharing it!

  21. Very cool Mona and Lisa, happy Birthday Rudy. It really made his day, didn’t it. Way to go Mona and Lisa. Someday someone might bring in a D-45 Martin for my Birthday, Yea right!!! Thanks for the video.

  22. Yes indeed, that was one big, sneeky surprise job. You three are devious.

One thing that caught my eye was vacuum tubes in the “electronics”. I assume they are modern electronic replacements, but still it brings back memories. As a HAM radio guy, my dad build his own amps, radios, stereos, and the like, and I got lessons as a kid about what vacuum tubes were and how they worked.

I got curious and stepped though the room rearranging session. If I moved that much of my stuff in that short a time I would never find some of it again (I know that from experience). You must have a good filing system in your brain or your phone/computer to track stuff – I would be wondering “now where did that special USB adapter go?”.

A belated happy birthday to Papa Rudi – you look great for a man in his 60’s. I’m looking forward to see you and this old music machine in action.

    1. All of the Hammond’s electronics are still from the 70s. I’m sure some of the tubes were replaced over time but they are still regular tubes. 🙂 I get dizzy whenever I look in the back of the hammond, there is so much going on!
Also yes, Dad is constantly looking for stuff now but there was no way to avoid that, haha!

  23. Sometimes it needs a long time that a wish comes true! Well done, Ladies! I think this “new” instrument will inspire you all for new good music!

  24. Well done, ladies! His response showed what a perfect gift and surprise it was. Did I hear that right: Papa Rudi had his 60th a few years ago? He must be about my age. We both carry the years well. Once again, Rudi, I wish you alles gutes zum Geburtstag!

  25. Very Cool! Very Nice Surprise ! Happy belated Birthday Papa Rudy! May you have Many More Musical Years ! Can’t wait to hear the many more musical moments to come.

  26. Mona, Lisa & Michaela what an awesome surprise .
Mona & Lisa your Dad was definitely delighted , how cool.
Papa Rudi will be beaming for a long long time !
    Very Groovy !!

  27. That is fantastic! That is a Rocking Room for sure! Other than Gimme Some Lovin’ I have the songs Can’t Get Enough of You Baby and 96 Tears by ‘? and The Mysterians’ in my head now! Smash Mouth did a great cover of Can’t Get Enough of You Baby in the 90’s.
That is a fabulous addition! Will there be “Trio” Sessions now???
    Thank you for sharing!

    1. Hi Tomas,
And now I have ? and the Mysterians in my head, lol. I saw them in person in 1966 or ’67. Two of my high school friends talked me into going to a dance at Power Memorial HS (not our school), in Manhattan (NYC). I only had heard of that school cause Lew Alcindor (who became Kareem Abdul-Jabbar), one of the best basketball players ever, had gone there.
I remember the lead singer, Rudy Martinez, looked so cool wearing sunglasses.
Frank Rodriguez, on keyboards, looked so young. I thought he might be 14 or 15?
They sounded really good. Yes, their organ was super.
As if that wasn’t enough, I got to meet a really pretty & sweet girl from Chile. We went on to date and spend time together.
      Thanks for the memories,
      Bobby S.

      1. That’s really cool that you got to see them. When I hear about Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the “Airplane” cameo always comes to mind.

      2. I came across a recent interview with Kareem where he was asked about that cameo. He said that every time he flies anywhere, invariably some other passenger says, “Uh, shouldn’t you be in the cockpit?”

      3. oh yes, I forgot that Kareem was in that film. Also, in Airplane was Julie Hagerty. One year back in the 1980’s, Julie came to a Christmas Party where I worked (her brother Michael was one of my co-workers). She was so friendly, sweet, and “down-to-earth”. Not a typical Hollywood type.
Did you ever see a film with her, Bill Murray, & Richard Dreyfuss, called “What About Bob?”. Very funny.

  28. This seemed to be the perfect gift presented as a perfect birthday surprise. I look forward to future music videos with Papa Rudi displaying his skills on the Hammond.

Thanks again for allowing us some insight into your family life. It’s always enjoyable viewing!

  29. Oh, wowwww, that is so awesome.

Because you love him so much to give him that amazing toy he always wanted. And that it’s a C3, such an amazing classic keyboard that any keyboard player would LOVE to have!

I’ve only ever played a B3 once in my life, like 40 years ago. Rattled the windows in my friend’s house.

That’s such a great story. I didn’t know I could have my jaw drop and be smiling so wide at the same time. Thanks for sharing that with us. That’s just great.

  30. Happy belated birthday Rudi… the Organ was a fantastic gift, but I think going on a dirt bike ride is equally as fantastic! It sounded like you were riding a two stroke. I own KTM’s and Husqvarna’s…. of course they’re both made in Austria. If you ever want to take a trip to Colorado or Hawaii, I have dirt bikes in both states… we are very similar in age also! Mona and Lisa’s music needless to say is fantastic and I know you are big part of it. 🤙

  31. Did I read right that PapaRudi previously celebrated his 60th birthday? I don’t believe it. I had him figured for early 50s or mid 50s at the oldest. He looks great! Long live RUDOLF!

  32. What an absolute gem of a family. Belated birthday wishes to papa Rudi 🥂and I look forward to seeing you playing it and hearing it on upcoming tracks.😊Can I suggest a cover of the Herd’s Don’t want our loving to die. Well done ladies a simply awesome surprise.

  33. You pulled off the perfect surprise with the perfect gift and got the perfect reaction! It did Mom’s and my hearts so good to see such a warm, priceless family moment! We 💕 you all for being so generous in sharing these beautiful segments of your private lives with us! You are truly the model family!

  34. What a nice caring family. Would love to hear him with his toy. Happy Birthday 🎂! From my youth, the keyboard player from Chase ( a rock jazz fusion) had a beautiful c3. There’s 2 videos on YouTube. In 1973 I had tickets to see them at a neighboring town 50 miles away. My mother was going to take me, I was 15. It was snowing very hard and my mother said she’d take me next year when they played. The year later half the band died in a plane crash. I loved his style on the c3 and of course the power trumpets. Never told my mom. Such a nice surprise gift. Love you all! Stay Groovy!🌹♥️🤘

  35. What an absolutely fantastic birthday present and your Dad was clearly very surprised and very touched. Well, who wouldn’t be to have such great daughters as Mona and Lisa and a lovely lady such as Michaela… Such a really beautiful moment for a truly beautiful family.

  36. Thank you so much for sharing this video! It was priceless to see Papa Rudis’ reaction to your fantastic gift. All 3 of you girls should be proud of what you did this week. Yes, you are a little crazy…lol!

  37. Wow, you guys pulled it off. His expression says it all. I’ve always believed the greatest gift is that of family. All ya’ll are so fortunate to have one another. May we expect a Pa Rudy organ concert. I know I am in for that. You guys are the best (includes Ms. Michaela). Stay groovy. Peace be.

  38. WOW! You guys did good! Rudi is one of the luckiest guys in the world. To be surrounded by 3 beautiful, caring and, loving women and doing what he loves to do…….well, it just doesn’t get any better than that. And now the Boy has the toy he always wanted 🙂 The look on his face said it all. Thank you for this video!
OK Rudi, it’s time to Rock N Roll Big Daddy!

  39. That was an AWESOME gift for your Dad!! We all know both of you are well aware how lucky you are to have such cool father. Obviously he is equally lucky to have such amazing, talented, thoughtful and giving daughters. Bravo to making Papa Rudi’s dream come true!

  40. I could FEEL Papa Rudi’s THRILL when he saw your INCREDIBLE gift!!!
The two very different additions to the Why? album I noticed were the prominence of Mona’s flute and Rudi’s organ. Both so awesome! When I first heard the musical conversation that Lisa and Papa Rudi had in “If You Raise Your Head” I was floored. So epic!!! Yes, even at the level of the three immortal songs you referenced in your vlog above. I am really looking forward to hearing what this new tool in MLT’s workshop gives birth to in the months ahead. Your musical versatility is totally awesome!!!

  41. You three certainly made Papa Rudi’s Birthday a memorable one this year. What a joy for Dad to get something he always wanted but least expected. With that big smile his cheeks will be sore for a week. Happy Birthday, Young Man!

  42. Happy Birthday Papa Rudi!!! What an amazing gift, but then amazing is what you two always seem to accomplish.
Wishing many Music Filled days to Papa Rudi🎵🎹🎵🎹

  43. FANTASTIC!!! You all sure know how to pull off a surprise and a grand one it was for sure. Your dad will think of this birthday everytime he sits down to play or just marvel at this classic piece. You better start planning now for how you are going to top this for his next birthday (LOL). All our love.

  44. Mona and Lisa (and Michaela), an absolutely great idea. I’m sure he’ll love it for many years to come. It’ll sound great on many future recordings, I’m sure.

  45. Hello Ladies,
What a very special surprise Mona, Lisa, and Michaela pulled off..
The reaction from Papa Rudi is priceless, as well as the HAMMOND! You could not have chosen a better gift. I know Papa Rudi is beside himself and overwhelmed. I’m sure he is still wondering how the 3 Ladies in his life managed to pull off this magnificent surprise.
I’m sure it didn’t take much convincing to get Michaela to join in on the surprise
Thanks so much for thinking of us and bringing us along on the surprise of a life time.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY PAPA RUDI! SO GLAD IT WAS EXTRAORDINARY THIS YEAR!

    best always
    Rick Ross

  46. What a cool piece of equipment and what a wonderful birthday surprise! “Papa Rudi” was clearly blown away, and rightly so! Look at the pedals on that thing! I imagine him in middle of the night, sneaking into the studio alone and then waking up the neighborhood with Bach’s Toccata and Fugue.

I see in the “Raise Your Head” video that the Hammond moves into the spot where Dad was playing two keyboards for that vid. It would be great to hear the song with the Hammond, when he’s got it at peak performance.

A question about the Leslie speaker. I assume it’s considered integral to the sound of the Hammond, so when the Hammond is used in future songs, will it feed directly into the mixing board, or will the speaker get mic’d?

The Wagner clan is awesome! Thank you for letting me hang out with you through the MLT Club.

    1. I also was wondering how the Hammond gets hooked up in a modern electronic recording studio. Perhaps a good question for a coming Q & A?

  47. Wow, that brought back a few memories!
I remember (long ago) My brother (guitar player) was in a band that use to take a B3 (with leslie) to jobs
I remember helping carying that beast in!
My dad use to repair organs (among other things)
I did too- to some extent, though I don’t recall ever working on a b3 or c3
I did however, repair a leslie system once, probably 40 years ago.
Hope we get to hear Papa Rudi playing that beast some.
    Awesome!

  48. now Papa Rudi will have to have his own song on the next album / video so we all can enjoy it, Happy Birthday and Best wishes

  49. Brilliant birthday present. What a beast – no not your Dad, the Hammond C3! Looking forward to seeing/hearing the maestro playing it.

  50. That is great!!!!! I was actually worried when they were rolling it in and gasped when they opened it up. I was in a group in the late 1960s/early 1970s where one guy played a Hammond…..so it brings back memories. What a great birthday present for Mr. Rudi!!!!

  51. What a wonderful expression of love to the man (the only man) of the home! Rudi’s facial expression spoke to the depth of his surprise. Years ago we purchased a surprise Christmas gift for our father that he had wanted for years. He was so overcome that he couldn’t speak. I know your feelings about this gift. There is no better feeling in this world than to gift someone with a surprise that they always wanted. Thank you so very much for sharing this moment with all of us. It was an emotional high for me. I’m so glad to know that Dad means so much to all of you. He is a very, very lucky man. “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” Rudi! You’ve got a wonderful family and I wish all of you the very best. “Looking forward to hearing the organ soon.”

  52. What a gift! Too much! Once those gals get a B3 in their bonnet, there’s no stopping them. I can hear it now, resonating throughout the house, Steve Winwood’s “I’m A Man”, the quintessential organ song.

  53. I forgot to add to my posting comment here , to Thankyou for cheering me up on this sad day, as it was 28 yrs ago today on March 10th, when Mom passed away and seeing this video, made me smile, cheer up, I needed this uplifting today, 😊💜☮🤘

    1. I’m sorry it is a sad day for you, Jacki. Losing a mom is hard and you must have been very young at the time. I’m glad that this video gave you a reason to smile. We can always count on the MLT for some joy!

      1. Thankyou Jeannette … I was around 26/27 , she had been in a LTC hospital last 10 yrs of her life as a result of a brain damage stroke suffered post surgery… She had surgery when I was 16/17 ….

      2. That is very sad indeed. It must have been a real challenge for you and your family to deal with. You are amazing to have become such a positive, creative, and kind person despite everything that was thrown at you, early in life.

      3. Jeannette …I do my utmost best to try and radiate onwards creatively , Positivity-wise and if I can upluft Groovy Positivity towards others, then I’m all for the better in embracing the Gratitude & Eminance That Cultivates 😊🫶🤘🏻✌️

  54. Awe man, how cool is that? Your Dad’s reaction was priceless He’s such a cool dude, he really deserves that. I think the real winners will be us when you start recording songs with the organ. Deep Purple was a great band that featured the Hammond on many cool songs. Smoke On The Water

  55. Mona, Lisa, and Michaela:

What a wonderful birthday that you gave “Papa Rudi”! He really must be “over the moon”!

A well-deserved gift to the patriarch of the grooviest musical family from his most-appreciating girls. Hoping that the Hammond organ gives the entire Wagner family many years of enjoyment!

  56. This was exactly what my heart needed today! Such a beautiful, love-filled occasion to capture on video, and how very generous of you to share it with us! Papa Rudi is lucky to have the 3 of you. And we are lucky to have you all.

  57. How Frikkin Cool Awesome is tgat !?…. Damn Friikin Fab, Wow …. you all certainly certainly pulled off a Surprise of the Century for Papa Rudi’s Birthday Gift…. Completely Gobsmacked In His Music Hearted Soul Glory was He in his reaction….Priceless …,Love it … Can’t wait for future CreativeMusic Juices oozing from this…. His Music Baby Pride n Joy …. An Aunt of mine, is a church organist -puanust for her church and has both a piano abd a 3 tier keyboard organ at her condo that she has to practice on but she had previously before the 3 tier jeyboarded organ, maybe the same one as this or a similar model, I recall when her and my late uncle were still married ( divorced later on ) , as a child, going out to their farm for either Xmas or New Years as we had a tradition of alternating where we spend those 2 holidays every year at the respective houses, and I would tinker away on the piano and organ …. Ah Yes… This organ …is gonna get all the loving musically and Tunefully … Kudos to Michaela, Mona, Lisa in successfully pulling this off, and seeing the reaction from Papa Rudi, genuinely gobsmacked in utter utmost Awe of Bliss…🤘💜😊🎹🎼🎵🎶🔊🎚🎛 Thankyou for sharing this special Bday Surprise caught on Vlog !!!!

  58. I was grinning the whole time I watched this video. The northeast “circuit” of live bands came near me in the early 80’s, and many featured a Hammond in the lineup. If you’re ever in Southern California, you must visit Harvelle’s in Santa Monica. A tiny shoebox of a place, but live blues seven nights a week, and I heard some incredible organ there, mostly on Hammonds.

I noticed the finish on Rudi’s Hammond shows signs of experience, it could not be more perfect for him. I say that having never met him of course, but his reaction reinforces my view on this. Great job to Mona, Lisa & Michaela, you three will be my first call if I need advice on subterfuge or any fellow conspirators for…well, story for a different time. Happy Birthday Rudolph!

  59. So cool! Great job! My Dad had a smaller spinet model of a Hammond and no leslie, but he and my Mom enjoyed it for many years. It weighed a ton! I bought a leslie speaker to use for my guitar and the store was very creative in adapting it for an electric guitar. I used it for many years and it sounded so good! Congrats, Rudi!

  60. That was so great, Papa Rudi was speachless! You really are a kind family to each other which is wonderful to see. Wish you could tidy my house that quickly! Ideal present considering the increased profile of his keyboard playing on Raise Your Head which is really enhanced by his playing. And of course so many of our favourite songs feature this very instrument – so it will be interesting to see what future tracks are going to be turbo charged by his playing!

  61. Fantastic. You girls are great at birthday surprises aren’t you! Firstly, my son Shaun surprises me on my birthday with the best birthday message I could wish for by two very talented girls, and then the same girls surprise their dad to fulfill his dream. You girls rock! I need to get out on my motorbike now ha ha.

  62. What a wonderful birthday present! I love the sound of the Hammond, it takes me right back to the 60’s. The Young Rascals were one of many bands that used the Hammond a lot.
Just curious, how old is Papa Rudi now? I am a member of the When I’m 64 Club this year, I think I may have a few years on him.

    1. Hi Tim,
I loved the Young Rascals. One of the first concerts I ever saw was them at the Old Madison Square Garden in Manhattan. I am very close with a cousin of Felix.
Great group, with lots of great music, including the organ.
      Take care,
      Bobby S.

  63. The big smile on your Dad’s face made one feel so good you just had to smile in return. Thank you for sharing! Papa Rudi, you are a very lucky man! 🙂

  64. What a thoughtful gift for your Dad. So many groups in the 60’s and 70’s used Hammonds. Too many to name but I can’t wait to hear Papa Rudi playing it!!!! Your dad is really great on the keyboard and this new addition like you said has him Over the Moon as well as I am sure all of us MLT Club members . And maybe a short video of Trudy flying all over the place soon😎

  65. Wow, what a fantastic gift! Such a classic sound you don’t hear enough these days. Seriously looking forward to the new songs it will be featured in. Bravo!

  66. What a wonderful gift! It was great seeing the total surprise and joy on your dad’s face. That’s the best. Thanks for sharing.

  67. I cannot begin to imagine receiving something like this, that you’ve wanted for however long. To have it be a surprise gift from your children is so very special!

  68. Wow, the classiest, classic instrument ever heard on well know music since the 1960’s If you seen pictures from the recording studios from those days you will see a Hammond. It makes Pop Music Pop, establishes the rock in rock & roll, and gives soul to the heart of soul music. I am looking forward to hear your future creations with such a wonderful surprise to you dad.

  69. Wow you are absolutely amazing and thoughtful, what a magnificent gift. I could see Papa Rudi was speechless with his screams of joy! That Hammond C3 in the wood cabinet and nicely aged looks so full of character too! Wow Mona and Lisa, you make dreams come true, and we could feel it in your Dad’s expression.

Thanks so much for sharing this most wonderful moment, I could hardly contain myself with the radiating joy. I’m not that familiar with organs, and had a look up and Hammond’s are the creme de la creme of organs. Can’t wait to hear the creative magic on the Hammond C3 in future music and videos! What an incredible birthday!

And Yay to Trudy taking flight, another wonderful story in itself, again you are both amazing. ✨💛❤

  70. What a wonderful birthday present. Looking forward to hearing the Hammond on future videos. Alwys thought they had a lovely sound.

As someone interested in astronomy, I was wondering about the telescope. Is it a Celestion C6? Who uses the telescope?

    1. It is a Celestron NexStar 127SLT. I got the telescope for Christmas and have been dying to use it ever since … just waiting for some warmer days, or nights, rather! I still have to learn how to use it. 🙂

We were hoping to be able to capture some night sky footage and perhaps use it for a video one day! We’ll see!

      1. I have a Celestron Nexstar very similar to that one, and the optics are absolutely amazing. I think I mentioned before in a previous log that by using a magnifying lens kit I was able to see the ice cap on mars and Orion’s Nebula (both took time, patience, and luck).

If you took it back to Austria to a spot way up in the Alps on a dark night, you might get some amazing shots, but just looking at the moon on a clear night is pretty amazing.

Who knows, you might even see Janitor Joe.

      2. My telescope started off as a Celstron NexStar C8. It now lives in the Observatory my brother and I built. The basic construction for that was by a firm who told us they also built an observatory for Brian May and Brian Cox.

Looking forward to seeing picture from the 127SLT.

    2. I’m a big astronomy fan too. Mona and Lisa have said before that they’re amazed by the awesomeness of the universe, and it warms my heart to see that they’ve made an investment in exploring it for themselves.

There’s a lot of untapped potential in the idea of intertwining music with views of the cosmos: each individually can stir profound emotional reactions, but to coordinate the sights and sounds that trigger those reactions just takes it to a whole new level.
