Hiking through North Wales – Photos

Up the mountain we go …

Whenever we need a bit of a break and want to spend it as a family, we all love to hop in the car and escape into nature somewhere, especially if the weather is decent. It gives us the perfect balance to being stuck indoors recording in the studio or editing videos.

By now you might have noticed our love for North Wales with its beautiful landscapes of hills and old castles. 🙂 In today’s post we collected photos from several different trips and thought we’d share them here:

  1. Offa’s Dyke Path by Llangollen, where we filmed parts of “Songbird”
  2. Dinas Bran by Llangollen, the ruin you can see in the distance during “Songbird”
  3. Moel Famau, a great looking ruin on a hill where we have done some trail races in the past

The weather is really picking up and hopefully we’ll find the time to do another hike or two this coming month. But even just having dinner outside feels amazing right now. We tend to complain about the British weather quite a bit but it makes us appreciate the nice days so much more … gotta look at that silver lining 😉

We hope you’ve had a chance to enjoy nature recently. It’s the one thing that’s calming and energising at the same time! 🙂

Stay groovy,
Mona & Lisa

  1. Lovely family photos. Beautiful terrain. Hope you can one day hike here in Colorado, U.S.A. some day. The 14ers await the entire family.

  2. Fun hiking with the family. Nice!
The view of nature from the top of the mountain must have been beautiful and refreshing.
It is heart-warming to see all the family members getting along so well.????????

  3. AWESOME set of pics! You obviously enjoy each other’s company as you explore! My favorite pic has to be “Barbarian Rudi” with the sheep skull on a staff!

  4. Absolutely beautiful scenery…as always it’s great to see Papa Rudi and Michaela….you know you girls gotta stop “spoofing” us by saying Michaela is your step-mother…she looks so much like you it’s unreal…you could be triplets excepts one’s a couple years older????….it’s great you guys get to go hiking as often as you do…such pretty mountain ranges in northern Wales…I was looking at the map of England a few days ago and I didn’t realize that Liverpool was practically on the north Wales border…a lot of history in those old mountains.

  5. We love MLT family vacation photos. Who knew the Wagners are all bird-whisperer’s?
These photos are breathtaking. It’s easy to see why you love this area.

  6. Such a lovely family and beautiful countryside! It is so very special for you to share this with us! As always, “Thanks for the Memories.”

  7. It’s wonderful that your family is so close and does so many things together! I have to say that the picture of Michaela and the twins makes it look like there are 3 sisters! Just groovy!

  8. Spectacular images as usual! I LOVE the British countryside, I always wanted to go to Great Britain. I’m SO jealous! And by the way, it seems that you folks DO know birds VERY well from the looks of these pictures! 😉

  9. Absolutely stunning photography, thanks for sharing. I hope to visit Wales myself this year to do some hiking and a bit of cycling ????????????????

  10. Hiya all,
Another wonderful trip to North Wales, I’ve been a few times and walked up Snowdon twice. I think my favourite castle was Beau Marris on Anglesea, the perfect cake shop next door when I went!
You ladies look better, in my opinion, with dyed hair, the flaming red and striking blonde seems to match your caractures so well.
    Stay safe, and groovy, Steve…

  11. I love it when the family gets together and goes on these hikes. Be thankful you can do that. Always beautiful scenery. Thanks for sharing.

  12. Greetings to all,
It is so nice and warming to see that you do so much together as a family.
    Beautiful photos, thanks for sharing.
I’ve never been anywhere outside of the US, except for Bermuda which is really so close and a very short plane ride.
I have always had a desire to visit Romania to see the Castle(s), especially Vlad’s in Transylvania. Maybe one day. Although CCR has a song “Someday Never Comes”.
    Cheers,
    Bobby S. (aka the Count)

  13. Mona and Lisa and Rudi and Michaela thank you so much for sharing with us. I know chances are I will never get the chance to see this part of the world but feel I have been there thanks to you all sharing with us! It is breathtaking for sure and you get a chance to see the beauty and wonders of this world. As always feels like family when you share pictures of any adventures you travel on. To me? This would flood the gates for some new songs and sure we will get to listen soon when the new album is completed. I agree you have to take any opportunity to enjoy the outdoors when the weather is nice, here in Pittsburgh they are far and few for us, we don’t have many sunny days in general here in Pittsburgh but when we do? It is beautiful. So thank you again and god bless you all and we love and send hugs

  14. Always love the pictures you share of Wales. Your family really knows how to take a day together. Memories for a lifetime. On our vacation with our son in Maryland, we went kayaking in a marsh near the Chesapeake Bay. As you said, calming and energizing at the same time.

  15. Absolutely stunning photos of the northern Wales countryside. So inspiring and such adventure. If I didn’t know better I would think you three ladies were noble Celtic women warriors and Rudi was an mysterious Druid priest. And you certainly share some inexplicable kind of bond with birds so maybe you were part of an ancient Celtic order of birds in a prior lifetime? Thank you for sharing these wonderful photos of your wild adventures. Such fun!

  16. Loved the Wagner sojourn through North Wales. The families love for the great outdoors is so very inspiring. Thanks for sharing with all of us [that didn’t get to go 🙁 ].

  17. Thanks for these breathtaking and beautiful pictures of your outdoors hikes. I’m really impressed with the enchanting landscape and scenery of North Wales and UK in general with the rolling hills and wide open mountain sides. It’s very different from North America, especially in the Pacific Northwest where I am. It’s so cool seeing wild sheep, and horses in your other trips.

Especially love all the shots of each of you in this beautiful back drop. Loved seeing that picture of you both with those swiss army knives, you look ready to deal with anything you may encounter in nature. Lisa looked like a real lovely songbird up in the tree, and wouldn’t want to make Mona mad when she has her spear, a natural warrior! Papa Rudi looked like a local native holding the spear with a skull on it and his facial expression cracked me up. All those shots of you with the birds feeding in your hands were awesome. That shot of the three of you, Michaela, Mona, and Lisa was so sweet.

I really enjoy these outdoors photos, thanks again so much for sharing your beautiful and fun moments with us! ????

  18. More great shots from a beautiful place. Wales used to be a place I knew nothing about (I think I’ve only met one Welsh citizen my whole life), but I now feel I know a little bit about it through your pictures and videos – thanks for sharing them!

  19. Thank you, MLT, for repeatedly showing us how much natural beauty there is in the British Isles. I never appreciated that before joining this club.

I communed with nature last month as I completed a bucket list item by visiting the last five of the 48 contiguous U.S. states that I hadn’t been to, via a two-day drive in a rental car from Denver to Seattle. (The rest of the trip was accomplished by plane.) The entire route was geologically spectacular and ever-changing, and had me constantly at a loss for words other than “Oh, wow!”

    1. Hi David, I’m glad you really enjoyed that trip. 🙂 I’m itching to get out on a road trip through those northwest states again.

  20. Hi Ladies,

I see you are getting more acquainted with Birds, and understanding them better.
These are some incredible pictures from North Wales. Beautiful Scenery. I can certainly understand why you picked the location for Songbird.
I see Lisa got treed by the Birds again. ( she was in the tree for I Don’t Know Birds That Well too!)
So very nice to see Everyone in hats and tye dyes. They look great on all of you.
Thanks again for taking us along on your adventure.

    Best always
    Rick Ross

  21. You live in such a beautiful part of this world! Thanks for the pics because I would never get to see this beauty otherwise. Love it!

  22. Well…I loved these photos and hiked vicariously /in spirit with you all while viewing these magnificent exquisitely stunning photos…I enjoy walking but not hiking but I could definitely get a sense/vibe of the beautiful nature, landscapes, ruins, etc all recounted here , and ….inspired me poetically now, Thankyou for sharing these stellar photo memories of your various hiking Odysseys that you’ve embarked upon, just on awe of it all … Definitely a fab way to revitalize, rejuvenate, etc … #MLTBuzzLuvGroovified☯️????????☮️

  23. Didn’t realize Wales has such beautiful scenery. I thought it was just bogs, and marshes. Love you capture your experiences, and share with us. Peace be

  24. Your family’s photographic talents are almost as great as your musical abilities. The photos are wonderful and they provide a nice bit of insight into your outdoor adventures. You are also making a strong case for me to try and add touring Wales to my bucket list!
