I’m Looking Through You – Duo Session

I’m Looking Through You …

That’s it! This is the 15th and final video for our album The MLT Club Duo Sessions that we released in the summer of 2020.

We adore this song. There is something about its brutal honesty paired with a rather sweet and innocent sounding melody and arrangement. It is one of these perfect examples on how the Beatles took the oh-so-often sung about topic of heartbreak and dealt with it in such a unique and very relatable way. “Love has the nasty habit of disappearing overnight” … Only Paul can make a lethal phrase like that sound sweet and endearing 🙂

“Rubber Soul” is one of our favourite Beatles albums, and we even made a “What’s On The Table” episode about it a while ago that you can check out here.

Now that we’re all “out” of Duo Sessions it’s time to start brainstorming new songs and ideas for next year! 2021 … we’ve got high hopes for you 🙂

We hope you enjoy the video and send lots of love around the globe,
Mona & Lisa

  1. This is what you get when real artists have the freedom to create. Great vocals and that banjo Wow!! I thought they were only good for rowing a canoe. Lol

  2. I really liked your lead on this one Mona, and drumming you did on the banjo guitar was really good, but as always your harmonies just kill it!!!! Thank you!!!!

  3. You never cease to amaze me on how you can take a well known song, and own it in a way that it becomes a new creature in your likeness…. thanks for another well done cover.

  4. The secret’s finally out! The MonaLisa Twins are the best musicians on the planet!
I LOVE watching the Duo Sessions as it reveals the “secret sauce” of how the songs come together. Talk about making it look sooooo easy. Just relaxing on a Sunday (Friday?) Afternoon, casually playing some music… Just tap away on that banjitar thingy and you’ve got it… I’m just in awe of the intricate, complicated and delicate performance that just looks like a breeze.
Add to that, the fact that the Twins always pick my favorite Beatles tunes, though that’s just gravy, it gives me somewhat of an understanding of what they are embarking on.
Kudos and a toast to the completion of the first set of The Duo Sessions. Hopefully, there will be many more to come!
You are truly a beacon of hope.
    Thank you!

  5. That was simply great. Rubber Soul is one of my favorites but the whole time period from Help! through Sgt. Peppers is my favorite Beatles time period. Is that a 6-string banjo Lisa is playing??? I also have a 6-string Dean banjo and it sounds nothing remotely like that. It sounds a little electric or am I going daft?? Regardless, you two just keep getting better and better……and I love it!! Mike.

  6. Lisa you had me fooled, I thought the guitar riffs on this song was done by your Gretsch ! So cool and Mona you are awesome with the vocals well done ! This song is a favorite of mine. The best thing about this song? Is how we can see the cords and the guitar riffs you both do, I do play guitar along with the drums but just cords and it is cool for me to see how the song is being done. But you both are so talented it is a joy to watch. Thank you and pray for more duo sessions in 2021

  7. OUTSTANDING!!! It really blows me away how talented you two are. I’ve been playing guitar for most of my 57 years on this earth, and I’m not even close to how well you have mastered your multiple instruments!

Once the pandemic is finally over… PLEASE come to the states and do some shows!
    Paul

  8. Excellent interpretation of a great Beatles classic. I love the new “multi” instrument you’ve added to the duo. It appears to be a percussion, 6 string banjo. Is it called a bantar or a guitjo? Whatever you call it, Lisa made it sound fantastic.

  9. This is one of my favorites of yours. I love Mona’s lead voice, and Lisa’s harmony and banjo play. I like it better than the original Beatles version.

I really like the sound of banjos, sound so I did a little reading. A long and varied history, three to seven strings, zithers, cello and base banjos, bangitar, … and now I see Lisa that has a percussion banjo – very innovative!

    Loved this one!

  10. We in the globe send lots of love back to you! I remember seeing photos of Lisa with her bangitar and wondering how it would sound! Now I know! At first I thought she was just going to use it as a drum but loved it when she started picking! You are both amazing instrumentalists and singers! Can’t wait to see what 2021 holds! I hope you and your family stay safe and well until then!

  11. Another amazing MLT Beatles cover that’s every bit the equal of the original. Superb playing and vocals as always, but I notice an even greater confidence and command in these two phenomenally talented and beautiful young women! The Cavern MLTs were awesome and where you both are now is simply breathtaking.
Wishing my favorites every success and happiness so richly deserved!

  12. M-O-N-A, Mo-na! You sound just right for this one.
This is so kool. Your playing is perfect, you both look fabulous, and your singing is as euphoric as ever

I was watching a video of Paul’s version of this song from years ago before I watched this new Duo Session. Just as your video began, my wife walked into the room to have a listen. As the video ended she looked over and exclaimed,”They sound a lot better than that other guy you were watching.”

Marlo is becoming a fan by assimilation. She adores the Duo Session of Lola. I have also seen her quietly singing along in the car to When We’re Together

Thanks for sharing another Duo Session. These are true masterpieces. It is so kool that you are able to share these high quality creations from the comfort of your own home. It really gives your performance a personal feel.

I hope everyone has a groovy weekend.

    JP

  13. I have never tired of this song – it may be my favorite from Rubber Soul! Mona’s lead vocal is fantastic – and the way that Lisa drops her harmonies in give me chills! (The good kind!) Love the banjo!!!

Rubber Soul may be my favorite Beatles album. I grew up with the Mono edition on Capitol Records. (Back then, US albums were usually shorter than their UK counterparts – due to differences in royalty rates, etc. Capitol gets demonized for the practice, but almost all the US labels did it.) We were blissfully ignorant – “there’s a new Beatles album” – that’s all we needed to know!

Capitol’s track choices for the US LP altered the “feel” of the album quite a bit – it’s more acoustic-sounding (folk-rock if you will) – and it’s said that it inspired Brian Wilson to do Pet Sounds for the Beach Boys…

    Wonderful performance, ladies! Thank you!!

  14. Ladies, that was SPOT ON!! Mona, your lead was excellent as is Lisa’s harmony. The 6 string banjo/guitar was a great combination to this song. By the way, Neil Young plays the same type of banjo/guitar, tho his is a lot older. I love this version, Rubber Soul is in my top 5 Rock albums….okay so they’re all BEATLES !!. Thank You for your wonderful voices and song interpretations. Keep on what you do, looking forward to a new album of your original songs. Keep on Grooving !! Peace, Love and Happiness

  15. Alright! I have to say, a 6-string electric banjo is way up in my list of super groovy cool instruments! Well played. One question: Now that the final duo session video has been posted, when do we see the DVD show up in the store? Cheers!

  16. Sounds great! This song doesn’t get enough attention compared to the others in the Beatles catalog. Nice to hear Mona lead. That banjo-thing is very cool, Lisa.

  17. Loved this duo sessions song. I might be thinking the same thing Jacki is thinking…? Banjo/Sitar “Groov” whatever it is… banjo, guitar, drum, sitar… brilliant arrangement and harmonies. Rubber Soul probably is my favorite Beatle Album. The MonaLisa Twins are my favorite band. ????

  18. I just love this song. Your interpretation of this song is wonderful. Mona your lead vocals is spot on as is your guitar playing. I just love the banjo on this version . Well done ladies

  19. Great job, Girls! Mona, your lead was wonderful and Lisa’s harmonies were perfect. Lisa, that looks like a banjo with 6-strings and it appears you are playing it in standard tuning. I have never seen one of those before … very cool… or should I say “Groovy”!!!

  20. Well there it is …that “drum with strings”…I love it…GREAT JOB on this song and as always your voices are from heaven…I swear you’re angels….now onto a different topic…I got my 10 Cavern albums yesterday and I felt special as one was marked For Rick….thank you…I deliver papers in the middle of night and I was Rockin’..WOW we all knew how good it was just by listening to the Club Jukebox..but boy oh boy get that surround sound and holy jumpin’ Jukebox I was rockin n rollin around my route….and Papa Rudi did a GREAT JOB eliminating the dead time between the songs as the music flowed smoothly from the last note of a song right into the first note of the next song….VERY IMPRESSIVE….I think that Live at the Cavern Club is an award winning album…but the award shows aren’t gonna ask me for my opinion…I’ve mentioned before I was a radio DJ for many years and Talent Coordinator for the Dallas/ Ft Worth Metroplex (Cheesey)..Hello Mona..LOL..Country Music Association …I was checking out “Live” band performances nightly and I’ve gotta tell you The MonaLisa Twins are the best I’ve ever seen and I’ve only ever seen you via video…your Live album has the cleanest crispest sound I’ve ever heard on a CD or vinyl…Callum and Charlie two very talented musicians in their own right and of course Papa Rudi puts it all together..BRILLIANT…and Michaela in the background bringing all the loose ends together to round out what I sincerely believe is the best album I’ve heard in years !!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️

  21. What can I say that has not already been said? I love this song and I love your arrangement and performance of it. It really is as good or better than the original recording and it’s accomplished entirely by just the two of you live! Being a closet bluegrass fan I am thrilled by your use of the 6 string banjo. What a perfect choice for the riff on this song. Do you know what George used on the original recording?

  22. Whoa…loving the Banjo /Bannister and foot percussion board used…vocals are superb, as is the song arrangement….high 5 all around….much enjoyed…got my flu shot today so this definitely cheered me up, Thankyou, a Fab finale to the Duo Sessions video series, Kudos Team MLT????????

  23. This song has incredible lyrics and is true to life. Nice job with the arrangement. I also like the nice touch of having the Rubber Soul album cover in the background. As always, there is attention to detail. Thanks for doing what you do!

  24. Hey Mona and Lisa!

I’m always amazed at how full a sound y’all get with just two guitars and two voices…and even when Mona started the song off by herself, it was such a full sound with just her and her guitar. Your version of the song is wonderful.

  25. I remember listening to Rubber Soul vinyl some time ago, and whenever this song came on, imagining how interesting and wonderful it would be to see and hear your interpretation of it. I thought, how would you do that awesome guitar (banjitar) riff? How would you arrange the vocals etc? So you can’t imagine how incredible it is for me to see this video!!!!!!! This is my favourite Beatles cover of yours. I have to honestly say, your version sounds better than the Beatles, which is a testament to the both of you. It is also so special anytime to see one of you take on a new instrument, and Lisa love the way you played it Thank you so much Mona and Lisa for this, it is absolutely brilliant! ????

  26. Holy Cow, you tricked me again. I thought Lisa was singing lead, and I thought you both alternated on The last 2 lines of the song.
    Superb Job Ladies!
Love the Banjo, it certainly answers a lot about what made the distinctive sound in the background.
Baby you’ve changed, I’m looking thru you. That line certainly puts a finality on a relationship.
I don’t know of a better way to phrase it.
Thanks Ladies for another Spectacular Song ????❤????‍♀️????‍????

  27. Wow.. I was waiting for this video., I love The Duo Sessions album…I just have to say…anazing, fantastic awesome., you’re the best.. what a wonderful Friday (again).. thanks dear girls..and stay groovy !.
