Bus Stop – Live at the Cavern Club

Many of you will probably know our studio version of Bus Stop by The Hollies that we put up on YouTube back in 2014. Yes, the one with the grapes and the socks and chocolate!

We have kept that song in our repertoire ever since and loved playing it at the Cavern where The Hollies played several times back in the early 60s. It also made it on the set list for our final show and therefore on our album “Live at the Cavern Club” … and now here into the MLT Club πŸ™‚

Stay groovy!

  1. I always liked The Hollies songs especially this one and Long Cool Woman. I love the studio version and video and really like this live version. The duel guitar solo is really cool and those 3 part harmonies with Callum sound really nice. This whole show is fantastic.

  2. The Hollies have always been one of my favorite groups…they basically had 2 different styles..in the beginning with Graham Nash and Allan Clarke they did light hearted fun songs such as β€œLook Through Any Window”..”Carrie Anne…”Bus Stop”..”Stop Stop Stop”…”On a Carousel β€œ..”Jennifer Eccles” …..after Graham Nash left to become part of CSN he was replaced by Terry Sylvester from the Swinging Blue Jeans and the songs became more serious and emotional with β€œSorry Suzanne”…”He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother”…”I Can’t Tell the Bottom from the Top”…”Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress”…”The Air That I Breathe”……..I don’t know why I mentioned all that πŸ˜‚ I just got carried away I guess…like I said The Hollies are #3 on my list behind #2 Bee Gees and #1 Beatles❀️🧑

  3. This is so good. Harmonies are just spot on fantastic. Your Dad should be complimented for the great recording on the videos and the CD has such a great sound.

  4. Love the two duets with the Gretsch and the Martin Acoustic. At first, I thought “Where is Mona’s Ricky?”, but it sounded great and unique. Outstanding non-verbal communication between you two during those challenging duets!

  5. The Hollies really had a large Catalog of songs, some thought bubble gum Music but I really liked them and I really like the way you put this one together. Dueling guitars were a great touch. Sometimes I think I am just blowing up your heads but I can’t Help Falling In Love with you both!!!!!!!Way to go!!!!
Groovy and Groovy! Thanks Walt Music

  6. This is one of the live versions of a song that I believe turned out even better than a studio version which as we all know can be recorded and edited as much as necessary to perfect it, but I just love this one at the Cavern Club. You nailed it girls!!!!!

  7. And Mona getting Pelted by Ice Cubes ???? ???? ???? by the evil twin. Or is that retaliation for being pushed down when you were little Lisa?
Great version Ladies! You can always expect the very best when The MonaLisa Twins perform a song. They are genuine perfectionists. Thanks Ladies! ????????‍♀️❀????‍????

  8. After I saw the Wire, I couldn’t wait get home to see this. I listened to the live cd on the way home to warm up for the premiere. These Cavern videos look nice on a big screen, volume at eleven. I love the dual solo. This band is fun to watch. They have so much energy, but I imagine singing this one is quite a cardio workout. I am starting to think the marathons are actually to keep in shape for future shows. Genius

  9. On a Starry Night, down deep in a Cavern, I stumble onto a Bus Stop.
I love this song. I used to have a Herman Hermits greatest hits LP that I would play over and over in my teenage angst. It must have been an Argentine compilation, because I haven’t seen it elsewhere. Another song on that album that I loved was “No Milk Today” another Gouldman penned hit.

    1. No Milk Today is a great song.
Whenever I check the mailbox and find it empty, I sing a little song in my head… “no mail today…”
      Sad, but true.

    2. β€œNo Milk Today” is GREAT! We played it live a single time during our show at the Saloon in Vienna (where the β€œDrive My Car” cover was filmed).

It’s a surprisingly tricky one to do and we couldn’t quite make it work so we didn’t keep it in the setlist after that. It’s tempting to revisit it for a studio recording though, maybe down the line.

  10. Hi Mona Hi Lisa… your energy and competence on stage are impressive .. this audience was very lucky to watch this gig .. thanks for another piece of this magnificent night. OMG I really wanted to take this bus.

  11. Great guitar playing.
I reckon you’d have to really concentrate during the solos especially after Mona comes in a bar later playing what Lisa just played!.
You’d be hearing what you’re playing plus either what you just played or are about to play!
    Brilliant πŸ™‚

  12. Not only do they play music they feel it. Nothing is held back and everything put in. Talent, commitment, energy, personality and charisma (add your own further superlatives..).

  13. Wow, this is an impressive performance! The ladies really display their skills on this one. Love the harmonies, the dual guitar solos, the stop-start, the changes of pace. Super!

    1. Thanks, David! It’s a fun song to play around with even though it’s very structured. Despite playing it live for so many years it always felt interesting πŸ™‚

  14. The guitar playing is spot on Ladies! Love this version. It is so livley and fun how can anyone not play the air guitar and drums to this song. You both play off each other during this song that takes it to another level. Wow another gem of a song and a great way to go into the weekend. I can’t wait to get home and show Maddie, she loves you both!!
Thank you Thank you so much Mona and Lisa

  15. That 2014 video and this live performance of Bus Stop is in the words of the Beatles expression “SUPER”! Right from those opening unique guitar sounds, your version rocks! You play it with such finesse that’s captivating, draws the listener to hit that replay again and again. What an invigorating groovy start to my day with one of your masterful versions of 60s classic. You breath new life into every cover you do. πŸ™‚

  17. Yep, I most definitely know your version of Bus Stop – you may recall that it was the very video that introduced me to you! I remember telling you at the time that with me being a massive Hollies fan, it takes something special to impress me when it comes to Hollies covers, and you certainly blew me away! Best video I’ve ever discovered πŸ™‚
