Drive My Car – Live at the Cavern Club

Let’s dive right in …

We kicked off most full-band live shows on this legendary stage with a cover of “Drive My Car”. And although there’s another MLT cover of this song on YouTube already, we still wanted to stick with the original set list and start with this tune, so that at some point we’ll have the complete concert “as it was” in this section “Live at the Cavern Club”.

This song has become quite special to us. The first video of us playing it many years ago (in 2012) back at a restaurant in Vienna has become the most watched video on our YouTube channel with more than 3 million views. Many of you might have even come across our music because of it!

That makes it even more exciting for us to give you an “updated” version of it. We have grown so much as musicians and performers since then, and we love seeing the difference in the performances. We are still very proud of the 2012 version but we think you can tell that we have learnt to have even more fun on stage 🙂

This is the first of many “Live at the Cavern Club” videos to come, and we are looking forward to reading your comments about it! Have you been at that show?

Stay groovy,
Mona & Lisa

  1. This song is what hooked me on MLT. In 2013 I found the first version and listened to it literally dozens if not over a hundred times. This release shows just how much you have improved into true professional artist. It does my heart so much good that I get the opportunity to watch your girl grow. As you would say keep up the good work and stay groovy!!!!

  2. It’s funny this song is on my American album Yesterday and Today. I know in England it was release on the Rubber Soul Album. I consider this album Yesterday & Today as a great album. They called it the Butcher Album. The original cover was the Beatles in white gowns with blood on them and baby dolls parts and meat on them. It was released and them pull back with a new cover. I am one of the lucky ones who has this cover and the remake cover with them sitting on a Traveling Trunk I guess. The point is if you are from the US this album was the first album that showed they were going into a direct direction with their song writing. On this US album there were 11 Songs as follow. Drive My Car – I’m only sleeping-Nowhere Man -Dr. Roberts – Yesterday -Act Naturally – And your bird can sing – If I needed someone – We Can work it out – What Goes on = And Day Tripper. This also has the only song penned by Lennon McCartney and Starkey What goes on. It also has Buck Owens Act Naturally which George and Ringo liked doing some country style. All the other songs were ground breaking. The the US album after Yesterday & Today was Rubber Soul. So if you lived in American these two albums were the turning point at the crossroads of their great careers. The two albums are sort of like brother and sister. Also I posted a comment on the take of Mike Masse, Lisa and Mona version on If I needed someone saying it was from Rubber Soul. I stand corrected it was from Yesterday and Today .

  3. You’ve had some really good drummers in the past but this guy Charlie Skeggs has personality back there …some real pizazz …I really enjoy a darn good drummer !?

  4. No words. Those guitars are so spot on, the vocals, of course, immaculate. Gritty. Powerful performance. Full house bouncing. At the Cavern no less. 99.9% of the pros can’t achieve this. Glad it was filmed.

  5. I have been enjoying your music for a few years now. You are both very talented. I hope that soon you will tour the Midwest in the US. In the meantime, keep doing what you do.

  6. Einfach toll. Ihr zwei, Mona & bLisa, seid jung, schön und tallentiert. Was will man mehr? Ich wünsche Euch viel Glück und Erfolg.

  7. I am very grateful that you cover not only the Beatles but also other 60s music. I think it is fantastic your parents moved your to Liverpool where it all began. Your music is great.

  8. When I found you online ( I still don’t remember how that happened) I just had to hear these two gals play Beatle music, kind of wondering how it really was going to go. I honestly didn’t expect much because of the many tribute bands here in America being so right on the music that I couldn’t imagine me being much more impressed. Welllllll.. my mom told me to Never Say Never!!
Mona and Lisa… you put me right in my place and I repented right then and there of my doubts. You have heard it a bazillion times already.. but your sound, your attitude, your joy and your determination to take your talent to the sky has given me such a great respect for what you have had to do just to get to where you are musically. I have a Huge thank you to your parents too who, I’m sure, have taught you and allowed you to have such freedom to stretch your wings and conquer territory that many never see especially at the age you are at right now. The excitement to play at the Cavern has to create enough energy in both of you to power a small town. Wow! To be on the same stage where the Beatles got their start and then to play and sing their music as if it was planted in you by God before you were in your mothers womb!!
I have enjoyed all of the CDs I have acquired from you and especially appreciate the Orange album ( still have to afford the vinyl which one day I hope to add to my collection) which has a great amount of creativity in it that really gives a good idea not only of your musical talent but also your songwriting abilities. Being good friends with a lot of the singer songwriters in Nashville, I know just enough to be dangerous when it comes to the art of song writing, singing and playing the songs and also the performance on stage that, done well, greatly adds to the fun and excitement in the music.
I am a former Disney artist and have had a freelance illustration business for 39 years in the USA. When I first got started in the 80’s ( and before you were born i dare to say) my goal was to actually create and paint album covers for records. I was fortunate to do two of them before CD’s smashed my dreams of seeing 12′ x12′ album covesr in my hands with some of my artwork on them. My friends said… “you nut… throw that record player away and all of those 4500 albums you have in your collection…. they are fossils”. Well… we showed them , Huh? Little did anyone know that last year Vinyl records outsold CDs completely!!! YAaaahooo! Never say never… thanks Mom!!
All that said Mona and Lisa… if you are ever looking around for someone to paint your never LP album cover…. look me up… I’m on Facebook and I have a Newstart Art Facebook page with some of my art on it too.
Until then I am going to really enjoy my free 30 day trial of the MLT Club site. Thank you very much for allowing me to be a part of it. My many thanks for you and your parents for making the great music comeback better than EVER!!!
God bless and here’s a few of my pieces of artwork.

  9. I was there, in my dreams. First in black and white, with the Beatles, now in colours with you. Thanks to your parents for filming it.

  10. Wow…I remember this like it was yesterday, the cave was bursting at the seams this night..it was a very poignant evening..and you played your hearts out,it was a fabulous finale appreciated by the hundreds of people that were in attendance, including myself and Mason…oh yeahhhh..and Eric the Fish..?…Thankyou for posting this and looking forward to more of these fantastic videos..????

  11. Great video of the final Cavern performances and looking forward to more to come. Rudi and Michaela worked their fannies off those nights to get those performances on video and recorded with great sound for yourselves and fans to enjoy for years to come. Wish I could have been there to see you perform live but a certain hurricane fouled that trip up. Oh well, someday our paths will cross and we will make an adventure out of it. Someday.

  12. Really like it……liked the camera angle down the neck of the Gretsch. Would really like to see you two “live”. Mike.

  13. Wow, that was great. Fantastic tone from that Gretsch, really nice.
And to be able to play those licks while singing is very impressive.
Love the drummer showing off for the camera at 1:23.

    1. Yes. That drummer has some skills! Love to see the other bandmates enjoying the show with similar energy to Mona and Lisa.

  14. I had not the opportunity to attend a live performance yet. But, if my health allow me, I will flo from Barcelona wherever you play. Do it soon please. Love to both.

  15. I loved your original Austrian based performance of this song. However, this version is even better and ticks all the right boxes for me. Must be those Cavern Club vibes and nostalgia lending a helping hand. Lisa in fine form with the guitar riffs! ?❤️

  16. You are both so awesome on stage! I’ve seen all your live performances, but to see a new one I’ve never seen before just now was an incredible experience. You both rock!!! The guitar riff in this performance is very pronounced, love it, and your singing is so full of energy and excitement. I think I am going to so enjoy these live performances of this set to come. 🙂

  17. Your energy on stage is phenomenal – makes me think of how the Beatles’ sets must have been in Germany when they were encouraged to “Mach schau “

I would fly anywhere to see you play live – you’re the best live musicians ; just flawless! And the sound was incredible and your band mates were great musicians too!
Thanks so much – I don’t think you can understand how much we who discovered you after the Cavern days appreciate seeing your earlier performances. And your Duo Sessions show what masters of your craft you are now – amazing and awesome and God bless you!

  18. That was excellent. Thank you for sharing. Since I didn’t know about your music until 2018 I am really look forward to the entire series of “Live at the Cavern Club” videos.

  19. Lisa, you looked like your Left Hand was a tad wet, and you got a Little Shock from the Strings.
    Dynamic Energy on the Stage!

  20. Wow! This is so, so good!
    You all sound INCREDIBLE!!!
Whoo Hooo!! I can’t wait for the rest NOW Please!?
All kidding aside Ladies, I would Seriously, Seriously purchase the Double Album Set, or what ever it would be Complete and Unedited, of the Last Cavern Show. (But only After all the Videos are Released) I don’t care What the Price would be.
An Album Like that would Satisfy A lot of people and Would have an Immense Amount of Sales!!! I’m Talking Record Breaking!! ( Ching, Ching)?
At any rate, rest assured I will be on Pins and Needles until The Whole Show is Out!!!
Thanks Ladies for Stoking the Fires Like Never Before!!?❤

  21. Thank you for sharing that. Amazing as always. Guess maybe I won’t have to invent a time machine to go back to the Cavern days. I look forward to more and sitting down to watch them all in a concert or maybe “Grove Me” will give all your fans a 3D concert sometime soon.

Love this and your Duo Sessions are totally Groovy.

  22. Groovy.. Em em Beep Beem em Yeah….. Finally… A short person’s unobstructed view of a live gig…. No one trying to shove me, no tall people in front of me… Thankyou for sharing… And indeed looking forward to more of the Cavern Gigs Live…. I’m now MLTBuzzed Groovy ?????

      1. Well Rick, I think you and Jacki deserve front row seats. I have a dicky knee too by the way! I think it should be all the oldies and health and height challenged down the front for this one!

  23. Love it – always one of my Beatles favorites. You did a fantastic cover of this song. However, thinking about it, should we club members expect anything less?
