For What It’s Worth – Live at the Cavern Club

What’s that sound?

… It’s music dwelling through the depths of the Cavern Club again!

We’re now three songs into our set-list. The mood is set, the place is groovin’ and we’re all having a good time. You might have seen the video of us performing “For What It’s Worth” as a Duo but this is what it sounded like when we played it with the whole band. It’s been in our repertoire for as long as we can remember. It’s a song you can play as big, fast, loud, quiet or or intimate as you want and it doesn’t really lose on impact. The lyrics are strong and, unfortunately, continue to be relevant to this day.

Hope you like it!

Hugs,
Mona & Lisa

  1. Relevant today it most definitely is.
I listened to this and the duo version. Me being me, I liked both but the duo more so.
Some other old and still relevant songs might be “Blowin’ In The Wind” (Check Peter Paul And Mary’s version), “Eve Of Destruction” which has been covered by many including a wild version by The Screaming Jets (from Oz), or “El Salvador” by Peter Paul And Mary. How many countries fit the given description today?
Hey! The hippies weren’t wrong about everything. The drugs and the Sexual Revolution seem to have gotten way out of hand but the protest songs were often times very much on point, hence the lasting relevance and impact.
    Impact we need.
    Now more than ever.

  2. I don’t know how Lisa can play the guitar that well and also sing lead that well at the same time. Then she totally shreds the solo and finish it with guns blazing at the end. Fantastic. I love Monas high harmonies also. An MLT Club Gem this is.

  3. I really like the acoustic duo version I’ve seen but Lisa playing that beautiful Gretsch turns this into a pure rocker. I love this.

  4. This song is so awesome, in my opinion, because all of the band members added a lot to it. Starting with Mona’s perfect chime’s, Charlie spot on the drums, Callum was rockin’ that Hofner but then Lisa just smoked that Gretch!!! As always, the vocals were perfect!! Great job doing it live!

  5. Alan is right on this one. After watching the new album announcement, I went straight to this video. I love Lisa’s guitar work here. The band was really tight that night. It’s easy to see how excited they were. Really looking forward to hearing the entire show.

  6. I love this one. What is incredible to me is how timeless this song is. 50 years later and the lyrics are still just as relevant today as they were then. It was a great choice and a good one.

  7. Ok I know I have posted on this song…sorry this song gets you moving and grooving and such a classic rocker. And if this song does not get you up and yelling Yes!!! then listen again…you will….LOL…

  8. We all have a bucket list and one on my list ? Well I am a drummer and I would love to sit behind my drum set playing this song with the Mona Lisa Twins!! What a rocker of a tune you ladies have made!!

  9. I know I sent a message on this song and video, but OMG What a fabulous job. Wow talk about rocking out the place and blowing the roof off!! You lades are the best

  10. Another fantastic cover at The Cavern. What a night that must have been. I couldn’t be there, so I am so happy you are sharing it with us! Thank you so much!!! Love the Duo Session version, too. And, you rocked it with the Band. You two don’t do anything “just average” everything you do is Way, way, way above expectations. Every time I watch a new video, I get blown away. Awesome!!!

  11. Ok so this is the 8th time I viewed this video and all I can say is…I wanted to get up and shout Yea!!! Wow the energy level on this song is great and up lifting. The jamming on this song is out of this world and Lisa tore it up on lead guitar, along with Mona pushing the level up a notch. Man I love this version so much, I play in a band currently and want to get the guys to listen to this so we can add it to our set list. Thank you ladies for kicking out some good rock and roll. Love it Love it

  12. So I Am a drummer and I was tapping along with you on this video! Holy smokes what a great version of this song, and I Was feeling like i was playing along with you both!! Man such energy on this song just like your acoustic version! Again you both do these cover songs and make them your own. As a music person this is not an easy thing to do , to cover songs, only a hand full of performers can do it and you both are in that group! Thank you so much for your great music both cover and original music!!!

  13. love this version of the song. you guys are very good live. i am very impressed by all your music but not many bands sound as good as you do live.

  14. I really enjoy watching the “live band” versions of the songs…and i’d Like to hear more “band” versions on Beatles and More vol 4….i’m a former talent coordinator in the country music field for several years and there’s nothing like watching and listening to it “live” …and to record it “live” takes a lot of expertise in video and sound…I know it’s expensive to get that great “live” production…but worth it !!!! I thoroughly enjoy and appreciate The MonaLisa Twins product!!!

  15. Wow, you really had me rockin’ out this morning watching this! Fantastic energy. Lisa I loved your lead riffs! I saw Buffalo Springfield do this at the Berkley Community Theater in the sixties and it has always been one of my favorites. But your two took it to a new level. Loved it! Thanks!

  16. Love the energy and the passion! How old were you when you did this? You’ve got power beyond your years, I’ve said this before but I love how Mona comes across as kind of shy and unsure at home but she really lets loose on stage! And perfect harmonies! And Lisa jams with the best of them! (I know there’s too many ands in this paragraph) The most amazing thing is how you keep getting better as you mature!

    1. Thanks Michael!
This was filmed at our last Cavern Club Show in October 2016 so we were 21 at the time.
I’ve never thought of myself as shy but, obviously, how others perceive you doesn’t always match up with how you feel I suppose. I’m maybe more laid back in everyday life but I’ve definitely learnt how to go a bit crazy on that sweaty stage! 🙂

      1. Shy was a poor choice of words. Reserved is a better way to say it. And yes you do know how to get a bit crazy on that sweaty stage! I wish I could come to England (whenever they reopen it) to see you girls perform. Maybe some day!

  17. Yeah ! Another awesome performance. One question though – what happened to the bass player and that crazy drummer ? Are they locked in a cupboard ready for the next time you come out and play ?

  18. Brilliant – you girls really shine when you perform live – please arrange some live gig in UK for 2020 – please

  19. I saw Crosby Stills and Nash do this at Glastonbury 2009, it was a great performance of one of my favourite songs, and so was yours.

  20. Lisa, what great guitar sound you pull off! This is one of the all time concerts I would have liked to attend. What you create on stage is mesmerizing. The bass and drums certainly add to the song, but when re-watching the live performance as a duo of this song, it’s clear that the magic comes from the two of you, and it’s impressive what you can do without a rhythm section.

  21. A great song of which there is an excellent Buffalo Springfield sixties video featuring Stephen Stills and Neil Young. I’m so glad you added it to your live band repertoire as it has always been one of my favourites. Of course, in your inimitable style, you do it so well. One day I’m going to see you live. It’s top of my bucket list. ?❤️

  22. Top form, you guys can really rock! Performance is so sharp and tight. Love those awesome guitar riffs Lisa! Wow. I can only say, I wish I was there to feel those awesome rocking vibes.

  23. Holy Cow! That was fantastic!
I really like this version much better. Lisa, your Solos were Stellar! You CRUSHED it!
    Thanks Ladies!

  24. Amazing song! I’m so jealous Nicola – what a great opportunity to be at their Cavern performance. No kidding. I would rather have been at that show than any other concert I’ve ever been to. Rare Earth, Santana, James Gang, The Association, Bread, Elton John, James Taylor, John Fogerty, and even the Beach Boys. I’d trade any or all to have been there at the Cavern Club.

Just saw a video yesterday about how “Rock and Roll died in 1994.” NOPE. Rock and Roll was reborn better than ever in 1994!

  25. I’m speechless this is absolutly brilliant. You two are absolutly amazing I was there at the cavern that night. You make the memories come flooding back to me

  26. I’m feeling a tad under the weather today… The Yoyo Winter effect in temperatures have caught up with me, this has helped uplift my spirits today, Thankyou, for sharing this and while I always sing along with ya on the CD that you sing it on, I air-guitar… along too, I shall do so here with this, just when I feel back to PostivityJax normal… Don’t worry, am not letting this cold take over me, I’m focusing on getting better ASAP, and this is the perfect prescription for that??

  27. I just love the energy and joy you both bring playing live! Your playing and singing are just phenomenal and you command the stage and the audience . I think these Cavern Sessions will be even more amazing when the videos are all released and you get a send of the energy between songs
    Best live band ever!
