Friday On My Mind – Live At The Cavern Club

Any Australians in tonight?

That’s how we’d usually transition into this next song during our Saturday night sets. The Cavern Club was always an absolute melting pot of different nationalities, and there was always a fair chance to have at least a few tourists from Down Under in the crowd.

Why did we ask? Because this next song “Friday On My Mind” is by our favourite Australian band, The Easybeats. The rhythm guitarist George Young was Angus and Malcom Young’s (of AC/DC fame) brother, and the lead singer Stevie Wright was one of our all-time favourite front men. Both are sadly no longer with us but we encourage you all to go look up some original live footage by them. You’ll be watching with a big stupid grin on your face!

We love “Friday On My Mind” and its beautifully chaotic energy. It’s quirky, it’s weird and it was great to do live.

We hope that our version from the Cavern Club 2016 will also bring a grin to your face 🙂

  1. It looks like you guys had a lot of fun playing on stage. So much positive energy is enjoyable to see. Hope you get back on stage at some point.

  2. Nice to have these reminders of your live performances. The other videos are fun, but with all your other activities it could be easy to forget how good you are when playing live. Do you think you will get back to that, perhaps after you have completed the new album?

  3. The earlier live version of Friday On My Mind was was the one that took me down the MonaLisa Twins rabbit hole about 4 1/2 years ago. I don’t prefer one performance over the other. You can just never tell how one innocent click of the mouse can change your life. There was a movie around a couple of years ago, in which a guy in a Rip Van Winkle kind of scenario had never heard of the Beatles. And I had a co-worker once ask me who Roy Orbison was. Some people live in silos of one sort or another. And others cast a wide net of cultural influences. Who knows what the next MLT surprises are going to be?

    1. Their original live version of Friday On My Mind was also the the one that first introduced me to MLT as well. I was doing some research on YouTube for a quiz that I was compiling (a music round with days) and saw a gorgeous young woman with a Rick and clicked on the link. I was hooked after 20 seconds (not sure what took me so long), the fact that there was also a gorgeous sister just made it even better. Their talent, energy and sense of fun was immediately apparent.

  4. Back around that time I would notice new bands like the EasyBeats and Beau Brummels as possible competitors to the Beatles. But, they tended to fizzle after one song and never heard of them again. DC 5 was competing with the Beatles a little until the end of 1965. Of course, there was the Stones, but they were different and did not really have a big hit until Satisfaction in 1965. Time is On My Side was a minor hit in 1964 and a few other songs did well. But, even after Satisfaction most of what the Stones did was answering/copying the Beatles to a degree. They didn’t really stand on their own until the Mick Taylor period. But, I’m sure some are going to disagree with this one. Anyway……the first time I saw/heard the EasyBeats, I thought they had the potential to compete with the Beatles. Wrong again!!

  5. Funny thing about this song. I work weekends in long-term care. 12 hour shifts every Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. So you could say, Friday I have Monday on my mind! 😉

  6. I have many, many favorites of your songs. But listening to this song on a Friday is the cherry on the top. I like how y’all added your favorite secret sauce!

  7. I repeat what I said in the comments on your “This Boy” -live at the Cavern Video – Awesome !!!!!! Awesome !!!! As live bands go your are the tops – so looking forward to your new live gigs as soon as it become possible again P:)

  8. I remember this in the 60s, however your take on it is just as good and very enjoyable and listenable (is that a word?).

  9. Love the strong upbeat energy, so much fun and joy! From the deepest basements you make the song shine brright!
What a fantastic show! So glad it was filmed!

  10. So nice to see this song done live! Wow such energy and the guitar work is fabulous. You ladies bring the life back into these songs and such a joy to listen and in this case see it done live!! I just wish I was at this concert to see you ladies in person, but this is just as good with these video’s. Thank you so much for your love and spirit of your music, it makes my day so much better!!!

  11. It’s exiting to see you on stage.. your energy and joy., you smile with your faces and your eyes too., unfortunately I’ve never been to the Cavern Club but it’s possible to feel that place was full of joy and happiness., this song is so alive when you sing it, and I think that you have given to Liverpool this joy a hundred times… wow.. it sure was great to go to the Cavern during your residency. I hope this happens again and that I may someday be in the audience… mesmerized by you .. be well and safe dear girls..thanks for another gift and .. Stay groovy

  12. Hey girls I absolutely loved the energy you put into that song …you were so active in your movements and Mona you had the most beautiful smile I’ve ever seen from you and Lisa you were more active than I’ve seen from your previous band performances…I mean it really showed that you girls were EXCITED to be there performing that song….in fact your performance of Friday On My Mind was far better than the Easybeats…I’ve always said that your Volume 1 CD that starts with Revolution…Friday on my Mind..Johnny Be Good….was / is the best way to start off a CD…if a listener isn’t rockin’ by the end of those 3 consecutive songs then the listener is in a coma……as usual another great performance and I gotta say Charlie Skeggs gets right into it with his stick twirling and primal screams …I ❤️It….and again another TGIF hit and it’s Payday Friday…another whammie !!!

  13. One of my favorite things is to watch performers who love what they’re doing with their craft! You girls are the best! Such fun! Such joy! It’s interesting to me that this is the first time I can recall seeing Lisa jump and shout like Mona does! You both love the sweaty stage! I hope that when these troubled times finally pass you can regain the magic of live performing! You’re the grooviest!

  14. It’s interesting, in a lot of AC/DC guitar riffs there is that same kind interweaving of notes (counterpoint) as in this Easy Beats song. Makes sense now. Perhaps Malcolm and Angus Young were influenced by big brother George’s style. Listen to Malcom’s rhythm guitar riff in Thunderstruck.

  15. Brilliant, best so far I reckon.
Love the drummer doing triplets on the floor tom with one hand :). Who needs two hands?!!!!

George Young and Harry Vanda (the other guitarist from the Easybeats) went on to be very successful producers. They produced the early AC/DC stuff as well as a bunch of other fantastic Aussie music, and also released some of their own music as Flash and the Pan.

  16. Well done once again with this Easybeats’ classic. You certainly do justice to the original. It must have been so special to be in the audience on the occasion of this your final performance of your Cavern Club residency. I look forward to further releases from this event. ?❤️

  17. That was such a fantastic, fabulously fun, exciting version / performance of “Friday on my Mind.” That’s how it’s done. Loved the energy and enthusiasm! Y’all really rocked it way groovy! Loved it, loved it, loved it! Wow! ?

  18. Gidday Eh…from On The The Other Side of the Pind, not quite Australia thiugh many Aussie’s are in Canada, I’ve met a few…
Nothing like a Friday song for a Friday, and great kickoff to a wknd, uplifting the downed spirits of today for what occured 19 yrs ago, much appreciated, indeed Friday On My Mind, #MLTBuzzLuvGroovyWorthy ?

  19. Every year, on my birthday, I pick a birthday song on YouTube to share with my friends on their birthdays. I started several years ago with the Ting Tings birthday song. This year I decided to pick an MLT song, even though they haven’t released a birthday song (hint hint). This song was one I seriously considered using before deciding on “Once Upon a Time”. I’ve got a lot of older friends who I thought would appreciated the memories of the Woodstock era. But I’ve got Friday on my mind.
By the way Mona and Lisa, congratulations on getting one million views of “Wish You Were Here” in less than 6 months. I look forward to seeing this happen with an MLT original.

  20. i wish I could have seen that band live! Mona and Lisa, the guitarists, are of course the stars – and the drummer and bass players are so talented and great at “Mach Schau!”
From the videos I’ve seen of The Beatles at the Cavern, I would put you ladies at least even as a live stage band – Fantastic!

  21. I’ve had Fridays on my mind forever, but these days as every day is like a weekend for me, Friday on my Mind is anticipation for your beautiful music, and today’s was well worth the wait! God this song comes alive when you play it, sounds so, so magically goooood in your hands! Love the counterpointing guitar sounds from you both! I had no idea Angus and Malcom Young’s brother was in Easy Beats. AC/DC is one of my favourite bands from the past! Big hugs to you both from the Australia of the northern hemisphere, aka Canada! Or is Australia the Canada of the southern hemisphere? Either way, thank you for this slice of music heaven! 🙂 🙂 🙂
