This Boy – Live at the Cavern Club

We often introduced this one as “one of our favourite Beatles songs” on stage. And it’s true – as much as we hate to make a list of our favourites (they always change anyway) this song would still be up there every time.

The 3-part harmonies of the original … to this day they send shivers down our spine.

Our studio version of the song has been one of our most popular YouTube videos since its release 7 years ago, and we have performed it live more times than we can remember.

We hope you enjoy this little performance.

Stay groovy!
Mona & Lisa

  1. Your original video and this Cavern Club performance of “This Boy” are simply remarkable performances that make this cover song one of my all time favorites!

As always, “Thanks For The Memories!”

  2. Such a lovely, confident, relaxed performance. The vocal harmonies are remarkable: just two voices where the original had four; and yet it doesn’t feel as though there is anything missing.

  3. Beautiful, great harmonies, great guitar solo and the girl at the left of Lisa is singing the song, we can see she loves it so much, she looks so happy.

  4. Yep, nice song for the couples. Get on the dance floor and shine up the belt buckle. Lol. Very nice harmonies and strong lead vocals.

  5. The different harmonies by John, Paul, and George are really a work of art. They keep switching lead parts throughout the song and make it look so easy.

  6. I have listened to your version(s) of the song so many times by now – it was one of the very first videos I saw of you – and it still sends a shiver down my spine…
I think the guitar solo is ingenious – could have been a Harrison 😉

  7. Your voices blend so tight, I love your version and Lisa, your highs on that was perfect!!! As always what can I say except.

Radio would have you at the top 40. Who would be at the top?
MLT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Groovy, Far Out and Blast Off!!!!!
Thanks for what you do, Walt Music

  8. Hi Mona & Lisa. Just joined MLT today. Love your music and have already purchased a number of your albums. Wanted to wish you both a very happy birthday with best wishes and much love from Malta! xoxo

  9. One of my favorites from early Beatles songs and only single´s b-side ! They really had afford to put such a gem to the b-side. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MONA & LISA ! LOT OF LOVE FROM FINLAND !

  10. Those harmonies are awesome, and the whole song is done beautifully. Loved the couple dancing in the back to the song. What a fantastic show this was!

  11. Speaking of favorites, after discovering your YT Videos and Channel, so many songs I heard years ago were favorites then and now favorites again, thanks to you. From the mid-60s until now, a huge quantity of music has been produced that has pushed the old memories to the wayside. Thank you for being you and bringing these songs from many different artists back to life for me.
Your original works are fabulous too!

  12. And that was harder to do than it looks. Harmonies, phrasing and guitar work on this song is difficult and impeccably done. You two can do anything in music. Mike.

  13. These Cavern Videos are awesome to say the least.
After hearing This Boy on the Cavern CD, I was really looking forward to the video. Lisa’s solo fits perfect here. These spine tingling harmonies are flawless and it’s so much fun to watch. It really shows how much the band enjoys this song. Their energy is endless.

If only I could find the keys to that time machine.

TGIF! I hope everyone has a great weekend!

  14. First of all it always seems I’m posting just seconds or minutes after Jung Roe…our viewing time must be similar…I read every comment before posting my own and always find with the variety of everyone’s comments I really don’t have much to add….I watched this video and my mind goes back to the Ed Sullivan Show and I see John going into his solo part and while listening to the LIVE at the Cavern Club in my car every night hearing Lisa singing this song I really believe that if The MonaLisa Twins we’re around in the early 60s writing and playing their own songs they too would be Super Stars 60 years into the future…..I love MLT …keep rocking and stay groovy !❤️????

      1. No, it’s still not playing the video on my iPhone, but I used my desktop computer instead and was able to watch the video. Thanks!

  15. I always love this part of the Live At the Cavern album, two slow songs back to back, this one and your wonderful June. Both songs sound so great together. Your This Boy sounds so incredible with your sublime harmonies and soothing expressive vocal runs, and then at 2:30 your lead guitar kicks in with such a majestic rich ringing sound to beautifully close the song off with more guitar flourishes. It absolutely sends shivers throughout. On stage you are every bit as great as the Beatles and yet in your own unique magnificent style and sound. Your version is dreamy brilliant, awesome! 🙂

  16. Well this is truly the best version of this song that I’ve ever heard it’s one of my favourite tracks on the Album live at the cavern club well done girls keep on going you’re truly amazing

  17. A 3 part harmony always soothes the heart and mind. That was
beautiful. The extra voice really helps, doesn’t it. Thanks for putting
it out and again, Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. New member of the club, nice song. One of my favorite too.
Glad I joined you two are very entertaining. Beautiful voices.

  19. This Boy has always been one of my favorite tunes ever! I was blown away when The Beatles released it. One of my all time favorite Beatle tunes and I can still remember learning a crude version of how to play it when I was fifteen; playing drums with a band that loved The Beatles, and first learning how to play the guitar from one of the band members. The thought back then that two girls would come along and make a cover decades later that I would love more than the version I was listening to was far beyond my teenage imagination. But every time I listen to you perform This Boy, I get shivers down my spine and my heart melts faster than ice in a microwave. Watching you perform it live at the Cavern Club was simply magical. Wow! Wow, wow, WOW!!????????????????????????????????

  20. Just lovely! Not that I haven’t heard it dozens of times on the live cd, but it’s so special when combined with the video! You ladies can do no wrong. Yet another awesome Friday post! Can’t wait for next week’s posts Tuesday and Friday, and the happiest, grooviest birthday wishes next Wednesday!????????????????????

  21. Angelic !!!!!! Awesome !!!! As live bands go your are the tops – so looking forward to your new live gigs as soon as it become possible again P:)

  22. Unbelievable how easy you reproduce three part harmony live and sound better than the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show. Thanks so much for this beautiful start to the weekend. However, i’m now stuck between your versions of “Lola” and “Stuck in the Middle” for my most often viewed videos. Love you ladies and all the videos!

  23. This is the song that first introduced me to the MLT and I think it’s my favourite cover. The harmonies coming from you two are fabulous.

  24. Ohhhhhh…Yeahhhhh… that was stellar !! #MLTBuzzLuvGroovified goosebumps all the way but worthy of it… The magical essence you brought forthwards in this live rendition reiterates, amplifies your m6sical gifts that you were blessed with to a whole new level yet again.. completely and immensely enjoyed this, Thankyou for making my Friday,Fab and a great Segway into the Wknd…. it was a welcome to the rough week I had.????✌

  25. Your long-ago You Tube post of this tune originally brought me into the MLT fold. That in-studio version was just beautiful. Under those circumstances you can stop, start, correct and get it just right. But here you are doing it LIVE and it sounds almost as good to me. In some ways even better. Amazing!

  26. This was one of the 1st songs I heard on YouTube by MLT years ago. I shared it with everyone I knew. I was knocked out! This live version keeps the emotion in the vocals that is present in the studio version. Live performances don’t always do that but this one does. MLT are true professionals. Their choice of bass man and drummer proves this perfectly during this time at the Cavern.

  27. Love this version of one of my Fave Beatles tunes. The harmonies are perfect and it’s a live version so what more could you want? I know it was out on the Cavern Club CD but it’s nice to see the video too.

  28. Rick I agree with you, tears in my eyes with the beautiful Harmony and guitar lead and riffs, what is special about this is the love you both put into this song, you can feel your heart and soul coming thru on this master piece by the Beatles and now your master piece. Like I mentioned before you ladies know how to cover a song and all its different aspects from singing to playing and letting us all know that you both have this and for all of us to come along for the journey , thank you so much for sharing and making our Friday wonderful. Keep it coming please?

  29. Ladies you do know how to bring up that big lump in the throat! Whew! ????????????????
Lisa, your beautiful Vocals And Gretsch make this version more appealing than the Original. Lisa’s solo added in just makes the song more Amazing. This little known tune (at the time of its release) there was something very special about it that appealed to me . I still get a special feeling. Thanks Ladies for giving me that special feeling again. (Actually better than ever before)
    Rick Ross

      1. Hi Rick, same here, but…boy…;it was more than worth the wait!!! Just beautiful, and did you notice the lady in the audience on Lisa’s left singing along

  30. This was the song (and the goosebumps it gave me) that fired up my love for everything MonaLisa Twins…! Mona’s intro, Lisa’s heartfelt middle 8, and the guitar solo that George would have played, had he thought of it!!

You two take other people’s songs and make them your own – and your originals are rather special, too.

  31. Really like this one – I did a little research because I was unfamiliar with the song until I heard on on the “Live at the Cavern Club” album. It turns out it was released in 1963 as a “B” side production and I realized why I never heard it before: I didn’t get my first transistor radio 1968, so, basically, I missed the song when it was played on the air. I wonder if other MLT fans rediscover or discover for the first time songs that they’ve forgotten or never heard because of odd little circumstances like mine.

  32. I was looking forward to this track from this wonderful show. “This Boy”…I love to hear you sing this…thank you dear Ladies for another happy Friday. The next one is June, I can’t wait..” I’m smiling ear to ear”
    ????????????❤️
