Lola (Audio) – Early Access

Lola is turning 50 on Friday!

Perhaps The Kinks’ most iconic song (only rivaled by “You Really Got Me”?) has been released half a century ago this coming Friday. Ray Davies and his partner Karen have asked us if we wanted to record our own version for the occasion to join the celebrations for #LolaDay.

How could we not? We love The Kinks, we love the album, we love this song! So we have spent the last three days preparing this cover and boy … or girl? … or boy? … was it fun!

The video for it will be out on YouTube on Friday but for now, here is the audio 🙂

  1. Another great Blast from the past like only you two can do it. Thank you for that musical pleasure. Still hoping for “Hey Jude”, LOL. Keep on Keeping on and Stay Groovy, My Ladies!

  2. What a lovely surprise to hear this brilliant groove on one of my favourite songs – well done girls. Now looking forward to seeing the video – Love & Thoughts – Tim x

  3. Boom! Mind blown! It’s so impressive that Ray Davies and Karen asked you to do a version of this song! Once again you’ve taken someone else’s iconic song and made it your own! can’t wait to see the video!

  4. It’s very cool that you were on their radar for this. Wowcool. I seem to remember that when released, there was an issue with the BBC over using “Coca Cola”. I think Paul Simon had a similar issue with “Kodachrome”. The Beeb seems concerned about product placement. Aren’t there UK versions of Lola that feature “Cherry Cola”?

  5. Wow!!!! That is one song I never thought you would tackle. You did great with it, though. I believe the intro by Ray is with a Resonator, but it works this way, too. I remember when it was released in 1970. It could never be played on AM radio because of the subject matter. So, to listen to this song and some others (Take a Walk on the Wild Side), we had to listen to night time FM radio. Again you are constantly surprising me with your diversity of songs and how well you do all of the different songs. Mike.

  6. This really packs a punch! So groovy. So strong. So right on. You guys never fail to amaze. Ray Davies knew who to call and you have risen to the occasion. Not just awesome – MLT awesome!!!

  7. Holy Smokes!! What great version! And the vocals are awesome and the guitar riffs are second to none! You ladies are so good, and a blessing each time to listen to you show your god given talents!! Cant wait to see the video!! Thank you and a great way to start a Wednesday at work!!

  8. One of my favorites and contains two of my favorite metaphors. “Dark Brown Voice” and :Electric Candlelight”. Great versions ladies!

  9. Wow ! I like this even more than original ! Your harmonies sounds fresh. I´m waiting to see the video too. Stay groovy !

  10. A full studio version coming? OMG! This iconic song is turning 50 and you have been asked by Ray Davies himself, to record the song? You have to be on cloud 9!! What an Honor! I know your version will have that Special MLT touch to it.
If the audio is any indication of what’s to come Friday, we’re in for a very special treat. And its not even your birthday, yet!!
    Thanks Ladies!

  11. I was in a band around 1973, we used to play this. It was a great song then and even better 50 years on with your rendition.

  12. A great acoustic recreation, but you should understand that to many of us of an older age “Waterloo Sunset” is arguably The Kinks’ most iconic song.

  13. Stellar Frikkin KickAss Awesome…OMG, So stoked you’ve done this cover, you’ve done your MLTBuzzLuvGroovy Music Magic here , Hell Yes… Love …This !!!!… Now I’m primed up to see the video complimentary to this, Kudos to perfecting this song….Kinks Approved, indeed ?☮?

  14. Started to type “Love it” and saw Thomas’s comment below! But what else is their to say. Not sure if used the word Magnificent before. Great job on a wonderful song. Can’t wait for the video. You 2 rock. And the other 2 too.

  15. What a treat. What an exciting project to be asked to work on. Lots of range on these vocals which I really like. A labor of love I’m sure. The production is great as always. Nice job everyone and thanks for sharing it early to us Club members.

  16. 50 years later and this song is still edgy. Really cool of MLT to cover it. And especially cool that Ray Davies requested them to record the song.

  17. Holy Lola! Spectacular, when that electric guitar boom kicked in, I almost fell off my chair! The singing, harmonies, and back up vocals all send shivers! Your version rocks! Can hardly wait to see the video.

  18. M-O-N-A, Mona! This sounds awesome. These choruses can go on forever. I can’t wait to see this one. I am curious to see what you came up with.

  19. You mentioned that Lola was rivaled only by You Really Got Me…may I add All Day and All of the Night….love the Kinks…Ray and Dave Davies !

  20. What an honour to be asked to do a cover of such an iconic song. Great rendition as always. Looking forward to the video. Love the harmonies and solo parts on voice and instrument.

  21. Wow! What a surprise and a real treat. I can’t wait for the YouTube video this Friday. ?❤️

  22. This takes me back to the summer of 1977, one particular night when all my friends happened to be doing something else, I took a drive in my first car, a 1968 MG Midget. The radio didn’t work so I put a battery-operated boom box in the back and played cassettes or the radio. This night it was the radio and this song came on, and I’m cruising on a warm night, top down, wind all around, riding along with Lola. This is your take on it but it’s so right on the money to spark such a memory. Uncanny how you keep doing this…thank you.
