Maxwell’s Silver Hammer – Photos

Yellow hued close-up of Mona in 20's fashion after video shoot of "Maxwell's Silver Hammer"

Some videos don’t require a high budget and exclusive fancy shooting locations … just some creativity, makeup and a good angle. We filmed the video for “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer” in the stairway of our house, turned Papa Rudi into an evil clown, used a bit of editing magic and, voilà, the video for it was done.

  1. I’d love to know what “inspired” Paul to write this song at the time? Considering how John was going on about love and George was into spiritual enlightenment and here comes Paul with a song about a serial killer? Makes you scratch your head. Someone please ask Sir Paul before he passes away and we never find out?

  2. Two and a half years ago when I first found you on YouTube, I could not watch this enough! It was always one of my “featured videos” in my “MonaLisa Twins Sessions” with my friends. You both look like Hollywood silent film starlets, but since you took the lead here, Mona, I’d like to focus on you here. I adore the way you styled your blonde locks to look like a “roaring 20’s flapper-girl!” Would you ever consider wearing that style again? The little expressions that you and Lisa demonstrate in this video truly crack me up! Papa Rudi is a hoot in this as well; lol! Overall, I am hard pressed to find a Beatles’ song in which you do not improve on the original. That is a huge reason I have you ranked higher than the Fab Four in my All-Time List of Favorite Bands! Bravo and Kudos on another job well-done. Thanks also to Michaela for all her hard work behind-the-scenes also!

    1. Thanks a lot Michael – the idea of “MonaLisa Twins Sessions” still cracks us up, that’s so cool!

I’ve definitely worn that dress since and I curl my hair occasionally but it needs to fit the occasion … popping out so get some milk and eggs in an outfit like that does not seem right (and takes way too long). 😀

I’m glad you enjoyed that video so much – we had an absolute blast shooting it!

      1. You are welcome and thank you, Mona! To this day, my most successful “MonaLisa Twins Sessions” has been with our dear friends; the piano teacher Laima and her daughter Sofia, who is also 24. We all want to do a “MonaLisa Twin Sessions – Volume 2” this winter!

Would you and Lisa wear those cute dresses and style your hair like that, if you went to a sock-hop? I’d bet anything you’d each get about a dozen boys (young men) asking for your phone number!

    2. Thanks Mike, hard work it was indeed … getting Rudi to sit still for an hour AND get his face plastered with the clown mask. Not easy to get the lines straight while he’s getting into character and pulling Maxwell faces already! Gotta be careful, ya know …

      1. Methinks that husband of yours must put you through the paces, Michaela! I nominate you for the “Good Wife of the Year” award. The first time I watched that, Rudi’s (Maxwell’s) face and hammer gave me nightmares! But then I recalled your lovely daughter’s faces and those nightmares turned into sweet dreams!!!

  3. How much do you enjoy shopping for props when it’s time to shoot one of your videos? Is it a labor of love for the most part or a pain in the rear? I know you all love finding vintage styled items so I’m going to guess it’s a good time if you don’t have to hunt too hard to find a particular item and end up on a long and frustrating treasure hunt.

    1. We love putting together the different outfits and props for videos especially themed ones like “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer”. For this video in particular we actually didn’t even need to buy anything (Except the hammer 😛 ) but for other projects like “Still A Friend Of Mine” we chased through town and roamed online stores for weeks to find the perfect dresses.
… but then again, what girl doesn’t appreciate an excuse to go shopping? 😉

For that shoot even dad enjoyed trying on various suits and striking poses which is highly unusual 😉

  4. Rudi…he seems to have a recurring role as the/clown …????????????????but you both can channel do well the vintage mode of yesteryear and altogether with the right equipment…costumes…etc…Everything is captured of the creative essences and song tone/defintion you wanted to convey…I agree…With creativity from within and surroundings…The best can be done without going wayyy outta the ballpark in costs…etc. HighFives on This????✌️????????????????☮️????????????????❤️????????????????????????????️????️????????????????????????????????????????????????

  5. Clearly not the Beatles best song but when you two did it, well, you added some tongue and cheek humor in the production and took a so-so song and made it enjoyable. I’m guessing you had a lot of fun producing this video.

  6. The video is perfect and the recording is my absolute favorite version. You guys just know how to get the job done. This was also the song that made me realize that both Twins were fab singers!
