Day 3

IKEA time with Michaela! It’s kind of a tradition for us to take a “girls only” trip there from time to time. First we eat our body weight in Swedish meatballs and then we circle every floor twice to make room for another round of hot dogs on our way out. Juice fast on the next day 😉

Out of curiosity we just checked the system and found that three of you MLT Clubbers are from Sweden!

It warms our hearts that the community here is from all over the world. It feels like having friends around the globe, even in the remotest islands. Let’s have a little “where is everyone from” conversation in the comments! 🙂 Where were you born and where do you live these days?

M&L xx

  1. I was born in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, and now live in Towson, Maryland. As an actor, I work everywhere … tomorrow it will be Stephens City, Virginia.

  2. I was born in the most beautiful City of the world – Hamburg/Germany – and I still live there.
Your wonderful harmonic music reminds me of my teen years, when I saw the Beatles live in the Star-Club during the 6oth. Go on doing what you do – it can’t be better !!

  3. I was born in what is now Sleepy Hollow, New York about 25 miles north of NYC. Home of the famous Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Never saw the horseman though. I now live in Princeton, New Jersey

  4. One of my all time fave Xmas time photos of me, taken around Xmas time at an aunt’s house which had a Groovy Funky Psychedelic kinda basement (scared me as a kid that basement – lol) as it was decorated by my uncle (before they parted was), also this is a Jacki rarity… Not wearing her trademark Purple but rather Orange-ish kinda groove… Lol

    1. Let me rectify my error I made (my eyes aren’t the best sometimes… What I meant to say properly was (before my aunt and uncle had parted ways with each other separated/divorced?! I was very young when that happened, I just recall always going to that particular aunt’s house often(my late Mom was close to all her older siblings as she was the youngest)

  5. I live in central NY USA , near a little town called Trumansburg.
I have tried to attach a picture looking out my window yesterday 😉
Thanks so much for the music, it has gotten me through some bad days.
I appreciate all you do for us. It means a lot

  6. Currently live in the same town I was born in 64 years ago here in Sunny Florida. When I was born it was a small cow town with Orange groves everywhere in the surrounding area. Now it is a congested mess with retirees from all over the world taking advantage of low prices and taxes. Makes me want to pack up and leave to another small town but my roots are very deep here. We have the most beautiful beaches left on the east coast of Florida that haven’t been bought up and developed with condo towers. So if you ever take me up on my invitation for a great place to visit in the winter and enjoy the weather and music scene let me know.

  7. Born and live in the town of Poughkeepsie,N.Y. About 65 miles north of NYC in the beautiful Hudson Valley. About 4 miles from President FDR’s home and grave site. About 5 miles from Samuel Morse’s estate (Inventor of the morse code). A mile from the longest pedestrian bridge walkway in the U.S.

  8. First, welcome Isabell, you’ll have a great time here!
I was born in the middle of New York State near the Finger Lakes, then spent some time living on ships in the US Navy where I visited western Europe, the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and Africa. Then a number of years in Los Angeles, and now back to the homestead in New York. Lots of differences around the world, but a surprising quantity of similarities, too.

  9. And while on the IKEA theme of things, I just found out that (upon Googling out of curiosity), up until 2013, the Ikea store in Ottawa was at the time considered to be North America’s largest… Now Montreal Quebec, holds that IKEA store distinction, when it reno-ed- it’s store and surpassed the size of ours…. Wish I didn’t have food allergies, I’d luv to try the meatballs/hotdogs there, etc but they use nuts in their desserts, cross contamination factor is definitely there, so it’s only Tea for me there but I make it myself there so I know it’s safe to drink?☕

  10. I was born in Nashville, Tennessee, this is the State Capital of Tennessee.
I have also lived in Chicago, Illinois, Memphis, Tennessee (3 blocks from Elvis) and New Orleans, Louisiana. I now live in Cartersville, Georgia, about 40 minutes from Atlanta, Georgia.
I love the “Girls Only” Tradition.
I spy Lampi Bampi today as well. Believe it or not, I have never been to IKEA.
Have a great day Team MLT

  11. Dear Twins and All, I am saying hello from the UK. I live in the South of England by the sea, was a teenager in the 60s, and am still rockin’, rollin’ and motorbikin’. Sorry it took me so long to discover your music but I feel privileged to still be around to hear it. As for Ikea no I have never been to one, but if I could get pushed around in a trolley like you it looks like it would be fun! Have happy times…

    1. Hi Jim, and a big “hello” to you too!
The South Coast of England is beautiful – that’s gotta be a great area for motorbiking. We used to have a little off-road bike back in Austria and loved to just get out there and explore.
We’re glad you came across our music … better late than never! And we’re only just getting started anyway! 😉

      1. I think the video of your ‘While my guitar gently weeps’ is fantastic, musically and visually. A definite favourite for me. As for biking, I toured to the South of France then north through Germany this year. Next year who knows, maybe Austria? ?

  12. Hi everyone!
I never took the time to properly say hello in the forum. So I’m just going to do this here!
I was born in Greifwald, Germany, which is located at the Baltic Sea. But I have lived in Berlin for almost all my life (I think we have three IKEAs there ;-)). During my studies I spent some time in London and New York. In Strawberry Fields in Central Park I came across people performing “This Boy” for the first time ( I think the song is not included on any of the European versions of the studio albums). I loved it right away and started a little YouTube search which led me to the MonaLisa Twins…

    1. Well welcome to the Club Isabell. Nice to hear from you. And lucky you spending time in both London and New York.

    2. Welcome Isabell to MLT Club and discovering MLT’s Groovy Music… Luv your name spelling by the way, I’ve not seen it spelled that way before?

    3. Welcome, Isabell and thanks for saying hi! 🙂
What a unique story of how you came across our music, we love it. Visiting New York and the Strawberry Fields memorial at Central Park in particular is definitely on our bucket list. And so is visiting Berlin, actually! So much to do, so much to see! 😉
Anyway, thanks for joining us here and have a schöne Adventszeit!

  13. Nice to see the three of you enjoying a day out together without Papa Rudi. I bet he was having an equally good time with his freedom! I was born in Armidale, NSW, but didn’t live there very long. Did most of my schooling in Sydney but have also lived in Wollongong NSW, and Nambour, Rockhampton and Townsville in Queensland. I currently live in Brisbane Queensland, where I have now lived for most of my life, apart from a year in Christchurch, New Zealand. ?❤️

  14. IKEA, the company’s name is an acronym that consists of the founder’s initials (Ingvar Kamprad) plus those of Elmtaryd, the family farm where he was born, and the nearby village Agunnaryd (his hometown in Småland, southern Sweden). There are 433 IKEA stores operating in 52 countries. On average in all the countries that concern us, 1 store for 3 million inhabitants. (1 store / 1million in the USA!).
It’s funny to say that on the planet we have the same activities, buy the same things. If I sweat hard to find and collect the same guitars as Mona and Lisa, I noticed that by chance, I installed at home the same shelves “IVAR”, I have for years the same office chair ” Malkolm ” as Rudolf, that I use the same folding chairs” Gunde “to put my amp Vox … and this is a non-exhaustive list. No wonder that IKEA makes 34 billion annual turnover! A good example of a history of European success.
For my part, I was born in Brussels (Belgium), I spent my early childhood in Ottawa (Canada) before returning to Brussels and live there for about fifty years. Now I live in the French Alps near Chambery. It’s a kind of paradise for me but as Christmas approaches, I’m getting homesick. And you, Rudolph, Michaela, Mona and Lisa, do you sometimes feel homesick?

    1. You’ve lived in some interesting places Angelo. I’m certain the Wagners must get homesick, especially at this time of the year. As we can see from their many videos, their home country is beautiful!

      1. Well, where the Wagners come from, around Vienna, the landscape is not exceptional. In Austria the nice part is a bit to the west where the Alps begin. I was more refering to their family and friends. By the way “Catch the wind” is a nice song to work on “as well for guitar (flat picking) as for harp (beginner level).

    2. You lived in Ottawa…?!?!… Oh wow, my hometown… Perhaps I might of known your family without realizing it… Whoa… I’m flabbergasted at this revelation!!

      1. It was late 60’s, Ottawa was always the best memory of my mother. For me it’s just a lot of pictures of me and my brother playing in the snow. These few years in Canada were her biggest regret too because we had to leave. My father was an architect and refused to learn English. So he was not renewed his contract of employment and the office of the emigration “kindly” expatriated us by plane to Belgium…

      2. I’m saddened by that story Angelo, wishing it could of been happier, for your time in Ottawa, may I ask whereabouts area wise you lived in Ottawa?!… I live in west end part sort of…

      3. I’m not sad. I have no memory of that time. I just mentioned that, to say that there is a very good quality of life in Canada in general and in Quebec in particular (according to my mother and 50 years ago!). We lived in the “Golden Triangle” south of the City Hall. To be honest, it was in Montreal and the Laurentides that I experienced the most intense cold of my life. Freezing! Yet, I am a mountaineer …

    3. You learn something new every day 🙂 Thanks for the IKEA trivia.
You have lived in lots of interesting places. It’s great that you got to see more of this world by actually spending a considerable time in different places.

We feel really at home here in the UK, which is something we didn’t always feel when living in Austria, despite having grown up there. We do miss part of our family that still lives in Vienna. We get homesick in the sense that we sometimes miss certain people, or certain customs, foods or traditions. The warm summers and snowy winters, our off-road motorbikes, the vast space around our house in the middle of nowhere, the soundproof rehearsal room …
But I am so very grateful that we are able to live here in the UK and chase our dreams that it quickly puts everything else in perspective. We are lucky to have each other, which makes it easier to feel at home wherever we go 🙂

  15. Born and raised in Essex England, moved north 27 years ago and I have lived in Formby for 25 of those years so I’m just up the road from Liverpool. Loving the calendar we have two advent calendars one for each dog!!!! ?

    1. I remember you saying you were a park ranger in the Formby Beach National Trust park, right? 🙂 Beautiful part of the country, and the most adorable red squirrels there.

  16. Born and raised in Boston Massachusetts; went to the same high school as John Hancock, Benjamin Franklin, and Samuel Adams – it’s old! I’ve seen Paul and Ringo at least 10 times since they like to play Boston. Beatles played Boston on their first US tour – hopefully the first place Mona and Lisa play on their next tour!

  17. I was born and raised on The East side of St.Paul, Minnesota, Lived in Woodbury ,Minnesota for a couple of years. Now I live about 15 minutes northeast of Minneapolis and I have never been in an IkEA , Maybe after the Christmas rush I’ll give it a try. I haven’t had Swedish meatballs for quite a while . I like hot dogs ,I do need to know if IKEA make good Swedish meatballs and hot dogs? . Then maybe a couple laps around the store.

    1. Oh, we don’t want to get your hopes up high! By most people’s standards the food there is probably the opposite of extraordinary, haha. It’s one of those foods we’ve loved since we were children. Garbage with sentimental value! 😉

We’re loving the posts here, learning where everyone is from and getting to know a bit about your stories. If people move to a different city within the States it would be the equivalent of moving to a completely different country within Europe – distance wise anyway.
      Thanks for sharing!

  18. Looks like the three of you are having fun. Well, maybe it’s just two of you. I am not sure about Mona. I have lived in the Cleveland, Ohio (USA) area my entire life.

    1. Well it looks like Lisa is having an absolute ball, Michaela is having fun too, but Mona’s expression looks a little mixed with that death grip on the cart!

  19. Wow, Lampi Bampi looks amazingly calm given the circumstances!

I must be the only person in the world who has never even seen an IKEA store, let alone been in one.

I was born and raised in Lexington, Kentucky (USA), which was once known as “the Athens of the West”, but now has to settle for “thoroughbred capital of the world”. My educational pursuits took me for brief periods to Los Angeles, Rhode Island, and Indiana, but now I’m settled down in North Carolina about an hour from Tomás.

  20. Takes me back to those early LA times, IKEA was fun! My body, however, has made it clear that some foods are a thing of the past. Thankfully, homemade pizza is still welcome ?
I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where I grew up. Then moved to Los Angeles, California, for a couple of decades and now I enjoy the peaceful and critterful forests of North Carolina!
    ????????️?

  21. I was born/raised in Nepean /Ottawa Canada (Nepean algamated with Ottawa some years ago along with other townships in area to become All Ottawa). I lived in the house I grew up in for most of my life (almost 35yrs at time b4 house sold), Both my uncle and Grandpa (Mom’s side) custom built the house as a wedding gift to my folks. The only kitchen in the world I loved… It was Jacki – sized (for people just shy under 5 feet tall). My Dad was born just about across the road wherevI grew up, Grandparents Hopper built beside our place long beforeour house existed, then built again just up the road for last time until Grandpa H passed….. My ancestors were one of the first settlers to settle in Nepean area.
Speaking ifcIKEA… I once in awhile frequent our huge massive store here that we have,, Can’t eat stuff because of my nut/other food allergies but I can have tea there, the tea is safe for me to enjoy.
I luv the photo here and glad you 3 gals have a day of it for yourselves… Trio Trouble??

  22. LOL. Soon as I saw mention of IKEA I was thinking hotdogs and meatballs! Love their showrooms and all the cool displays, until you get home and have to assemble everything.
I was born in South Korea city of Busan in 1963. Came over to the US when I was 2 in eastern Washington State. Moved up to Vancouver Canada in time to start grade 1, and been there ever since. It’s awesome the MLT community is global! Has your music touched all the continents yet I wonder?

Love that picture of the 3 of you!

  23. Was the “girls only” trip your idea or your dads?

I know I’d do just about anything to get out of a trip to Ikea!

As for me, born in Adelaide, Australia and I’m still here.

    1. Hahaa! I think all parties were equally thrilled about the arrangement.;-)
We still think of Adelaide and the 6 months we spent there a lot. We arrived bang in the middle of the insane heatwave of January 2009 but we made it out alive and fell in love with your country and its people in the progress!

If you’d have been walking down Rundle Mall during those 6 months you might have caught one of our after school busking sessions there. Greetings to groovy Adelaide!

      1. I work in the city so I could well have seen you, but I have no memory of it unfortunately 🙁
