Day 15

Mona, Lisa and Lampibampi walk into a Photobooth …

Now, most of you will have spotted a recurring guest in every one of our Advent Calendar photos that we have posted so far. For those of you who are newer to our music or just haven’t heard the story before, this little lamb, also called “Lampibampi” has been with us from the day we were born.

It’s been on every trip, moved countries, got lost a few times, has been found again, featured in music videos, photos and even one of our album artworks (Do you know which?).

To us it sort of represents our dreams, the naive, childlike wish of wanting the world to be a place where everyone feels safe, fulfilled, happy and loved.

A lot of kids have a toy or a blanket or something of that sort, something that provides comfort. Mona had a little baby tiger, too, for example. Whenever we were a little stressed or uncomfortable, the presence of our little toys would make us feel calmer. Isn’t that strange? How a little stuffed animal can have this effect?

Do you have an old childhood toy or item that played a big part in your life?

  1. Well, Lampibampi sure would like to try out if those boots are made for walking! I had a teddy bear, that I loved and whose fur ended up looking much like the adorable little lamb’s wool (or lack thereof) we all know. I think I was in my teens, when I asked my mum about “Bear” and she gave a look that said it all. ?

  2. Hi Lisa. I’m doing another house sit and pet minding a dog and five cats in Sydney until January 3. All my MLT CDs, DVD and vinyl are home in Brisbane, but of course I still have my iPhone and iPad to listen to and watch everything. I did check all your albums on the web site via the club, but they only show the front side. ?❤️

  3. Lol… I just now noticed, again due to my ongoing eye issues that I mistyped “Turtle”, instead of properly typing “Yurtle” (as in Dr. Seussvstuff: Yurtle The Turtle”, sorry for the confusion and faux pas on my part and dumb eye issues…. ??

  4. I never had a stuffed animal that I kept like that but I DID have a down filled pillow my mother made me when I was little. She made it with chicken feathers. I finally got rid of it about 10 years ago. The feathers had all basically turned to dust after about 40+ years. I loved that pillow, it was so comfortable. But that dust was no doubt not too good to breath I suppose. I never noticed the dust at all though in the air.

When my niece was a little kid she made me a rocket out of cardboard and construction paper (She knew I was interested in space and astronomy), I still have it. It’s nearly 30 years old now.

  5. I don’t have any recollection of one particular stuffed animal or toy that was special to me. Being the 5th of 6 children of very modest means everything I wore or played with was a hand-me down and I couldn’t lay claim to anything for myself. When I was in 4th grade and taught myself how to play the piano from that point on my Grandmother’s upright piano was pretty much mine to enjoy since none of my siblings played on it. Only my mother and I did so I guess that’s as close as I got but you can’t take a piano to bed with you or curl up with it on the couch. I played for hours some days picking out tunes by ear and it was a great way to work out my frustrations banging those keys. Lol..

  6. I had a one eared rabbit (I carried it around by the other ear for so long that it came off) I called “Squeaky” because he had a belly button that squeaked when pressed. I saved Squeaky for years and years, but one day he got lost forever. 🙁

    1. Oh no, that would have been my worst nightmare as a child. I always panicked when Lampibampi disappeared. I hope you lost him only later in life. But Lampibampi definitely had some companions that I have no idea where they went … :-/

  7. How can I forget? Lampibampi appears on the album When We’re Together…. I had a Panda Bear who was my best friend when I was a kid. I still have it. No eyes and very worn… But he’s still by my side. Happy day to you all. 🙂

  8. I’ve got a soft monkey named “Affi” (that’s kind of like a children’s word for monkey in German). It’s been with me all my life and I still take it with me when I travel. My best friend also has a monkey from her childhood that she cherishes a lot – and it’s called “Affi” 😉

  9. It is really amazing as from one photo to another you can be so different.
As for the cuddly toy, here is the one I wish I had.

  10. What special memories and endearing Pictures.
Lampi Bampi was in Dreams artwork and on When We’re Together Album back cover.
I have a Charlie Horse hand puppet that I have had since was 6. (1962) is the date on his head. Charlie Horse, in case you don’t know, is from the Shari Lewis Show. Charlie Horse, Hush Puppy, and Lamb Chop. Then on the 90s the show was brought back with new shows and a new theme song ” This Is The Song That Never Ends”. My daughter loves the song! Wow! What memories! Thank you for a quite special Day 15. Mona???? Lisa ❤??? and of course Lampi Bampi?

  11. I had a stuffed Alvin from Alvin and the Chipmunks
They had some hits in the sixties then got remade into movies.
I took Alvin everywhere and he was a great toy companion
    I still have him…

  12. We found out in the MLT Club birthday video that Lisa had six facial expressions, but there are at least three new ones here. So wonderful to see you expanding your horizons, growing and learning. A great example to us all!

I do know where LampiBampi is in the album artwork; I won’t spoil but it’s standing sentry much like the Monty Python Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog.

I still have a toy tank that I played with a lot as a youngster. It shot shells and ran on batteries (never included back then). It’s pretty broken and decrepit now and is only for display these days, but it reminds me of simpler times.
And thanks again for the Advent Calendar, it’s making this season one of smiles.

    1. Thank you Dale, I appreciate you noticing my personal growth. It’s good to know the emotion management lessons are paying off 😉

  13. Oh yes… I have a pull string Turtle The Turtle (minus one arm, I yanked off during an anger fit one time – lol… I may be small but don’t mess with when angry… Lol, the Turtle had to have been passed down from my 2 older brothers to me , and I still own a worn out pink kitten plush toy, a worn out baby/toddler blanket, etc… I’m a keepsakes hoarder kind of you can say…
Loved seeing these LampiBampi’s & MLT PhotoBooth Randoms for today’s Advent Calendar Journey???❤️?

  14. In that first picture I thought Lisa was about to chow down on some mutton, and Mona was screaming for help. Thank goodness for the other pictures to provide context.

    Well, here’s my toy story:

I was four years old when Sesame Street premiered, and I was scared to death of the Muppets. They seemed to be alive, and yet I knew they couldn’t be, and it really freaked me out.

So my mom constructed a sock puppet, with buttons for eyes and cotton balls for hair, and had a conversation with it in front of me. At one point she asked if it wanted some banana cream pie, and it said, “Banana cream pie? Ptooey!” I laughed my head off, and hence the puppet was named Ptooey.

I didn’t really interact much with Ptooey after that moment of need, but I still have it. It always reminds me that good parents will do what they must to keep their kids from becoming basket cases.

  15. Love all those facial expressions, especially the 2nd last one (#5). I’m afraid if I tried that, I may pull a facial muscle now. 🙂 I had a wind up music box house with a water mill I was very fond of. You could wind up the water mill, and the music box inside would play Beethoven’s “Fur Elise”. It was one of my earliest childhood toys I remember from 4 or 5, and evoked a lot of fairy tale like imagination playing with it. It got damaged during one of our moves. Found a picture that looks like it a bit.

  16. Can’t think of any album artwork that Lampibampi appears in but definitely the star of the “Dreams” video. I don’t have any childhood toys but I do have a lot of adult boys toys. Like my motorbike for example! I can’t believe that with all your technology you visited a photo booth! ?❤️

    1. Well, going “vintage” can be fun at times. And just a hint: turn around your “When We’re Together” album 😉
