Hey Bulldog – Live at the Cavern Club (Day 4)

Some kind of happiness is measured out in miles …

In all the enthusiasm for Christmas, let’s not forget about the music! To accompany our latest album release we decided to post more of the Cavern videos and try to finish the first set of the show by the end of 2020.

Today we continue with an underappreciated, absolute gem of a Beatles song with one of the best bass lines in existence. You may have heard our studio version on “MonaLisa Twins play Beatles & more” Vol. 3 but this is what it sounded like live. Lisa was still doing the lead vocals (Mona would end up singing it for the studio version), Callum was playing bass and we had Charlie on the drums.

Live, we would sometimes also switch instruments with the boys on this one song with Mona jumping behind the drums, Lisa getting on the bass and the boys taking over the guitars. It’s a perfect song to go a little crazy on 😉 WOOF!
We reigned it in a little with this performance, knowing that it would end up on video and CD and wanting it to sound as good as possible. We hope you’ll dive into the world of our four-legged best friends for the next three minutes.

“Live at the Cavern Club” has been out for nearly a month now and we couldn’t be happier with its reception. Thanks to every single one of you who has bought, streamed and enjoyed the music. If you haven’t listened to it yet, you can stream it here in the MLT Club!

In today’s challenge we would like to ask you all for an album review. It can be on any of the popular places where you can review music but here are some ideas that would help us in any case:

Simply leave a link to your review (or a screenshot) in the comments below – you’ll get 5 points for every place you post it at 🙂

DAY 4 – ALBUM REVIEW

  1. You can talk to me if you re lonely, I love this song so much, you have done such a amazing cover, great guitar solo Lisa, I love it when you rock.

  2. It’s true the bass line is the centerpiece of this tune, and this electric bassist is making it all work, but the drummer is strong too. I also have to say Lisa is really hitting an authentic Beatle notes lead guitar solo for this MLT cover which I always appreciate. It’s OK to ad-lib every now and then, but Lisa remains authentic Harrison lead notes on this live performance.

Thank you MLT and Lisa in particular for covering such a classic, simpler days of yesteryear yet timeless sounding Beatles tune with attention to detail.

  3. Got to give the boys some props on this one. That’s a groovy bassline and backbeat going on there. It would be cool if you could post a video of this with the boys out front just in the MLT Club.

  4. WOOF WOOF BACK AT YOU!!!!!! LOL I KNOW YOU HAD THE CHALLENGE A WHILE AGO BUT WHAT THE HECK//////DO IT ANYWAY, A LOT OF FUN.

  5. I just got my first CD MonaLisa Twins play Beatles & more Vol.1, and I love it !! I will be ordering Vol. 2 & 3 very soon !!

  6. I did my review on the MLT website, but Ill double down here an say that this album is my absolute favorite to listen to now. Even though I love a lot of your past recordings and videos, and I can’t wait until the next album release, but this album will be one of my all time favs for my lifetime. Thanks for sharing it with the world.

  7. I sent a direct message I think through Face Book to the “Twins” with this photo the night I got it. With all the heavy things I deal with (working in an ICU), this album is something that has such energy that it makes it hard for me to stay down. “Hey, Bulldog!” was the right song for for this day. That lyric “Childlike, no one understands…You don’t know what it’s like to listen to your fears…” Most days, that is right in my face. Especially of late. The Chorus that follows that line is “You can talk to me, You can talk to me, You can talk to me, If you’re lonely, you can talk to me”. This collection of tunes has become my therapist. What I hear is Mona and Lisa reminding me of greater things and happier times. These are songs that are caring me through this rough time. So much gloom in your face in the media, and they produce an album handcrafted with lots of love and hope. Please accept an appropriate, virtual, and socially distant hug from across the “pond”.

  8. WUNDERBAR !!! Now that’s a rockin’ little number. As I listen to more of your music, I wonder, why haven’t you made a splash in the US ? Myself, I try to get new people to listen, and a few have, but too many are into the “new” music which I don’t like at all. Yours is fresh, the sound great, the harmonies perfect, Lisa is a knockout playing lead, as you are on all I’ve seen. Thanks for some really great music from your newest, “OLD” fan. Always, Peace, Love and Happiness

  9. This post is to let you know I’ve written and picture of Live album on the MonaLisa Twins Intergalactic Fan Club as of Sunday night December 6 approx 9:25 PM for Advent Day 4 challenge ….I’m not a geek…I just attempted to take pic of intergalactic page and pic disappeared…I don’t know…I’m not good at this stuff….I need to find a 3-yr old to help Grandpa…LOL

  10. I wrote a review on Apple Music, but don’t seem to be able to see it now. Apparently the album isn’t available yet in the US. (Maybe you can see it in the UK?) I was able to add a review to Amazon US however. Hope you like it!

  11. “Live at the Cavern Club” is terrific and full of high-energy performances. Great takes on Beatles classics and many other songs from that era (loved your version of “My Generation”!). If it has one flaw, that flaw is that there aren’t two more discs included!!

  12. Until I ordered your MLTBAM3 album I had forgotten Bulldog. After hearing it on the album it became one of my favorites. It sinks it’s teeth in you and doesn’t let go! Watching you do it on stage makes it even more compelling. I love seeing how much fun you’re having with it and watching you make those primeval howls at the end. Absolutely gritty!

Not being much of a social media person I elected to leave my review of your awesome “Live At The Cavern Club” on your website today. I tried to link it to here but I’m screwing it up somehow. I’ll try to link it to a separate reply instead.

  13. Great cover of hey bull frog! The thing is, you ladies do a great job of covering the Beatles, to the vocals, guitar riffs and lead guitar parts. George Harrison is smiling each time you ladies rock out on any Beatle / George Harrison songs. Thank you so much for sharing.

  14. That’s what I supposed to do today anyway, even without this challenge. I’m running a channel in Telegram devoted to rock-music. For the third year already. It’s called “One cool music video every day” (In translation from Russian, as the channel initially was targeted to Russian-speaking audience, but I can easily change this if I will get any international subscribers). Everyone welcome to join! Just open the channel in Telegram and click JOIN button.

MonaLisa Twins are the most frequent guests at my channel, they have already appeared there in total 19 times (including today), much more than any other band. A couple of years ago I even made a special week devoted to MLT. Not only reposting their music videos but telling the stories about the band (taken mostly from this website) 🙂

Here’s today’s review of the new double album, which I’m highly delighted to write:
    https://t.me/oneclipperday/735

Sorry guys, you will need, perhaps, to copy-paste the text into Google-Translate to read, but it’s just a couple of clicks, right? I little challenge from me to you as well. 🙂
The link above will open in Telegram if you have it. Otherwise, no problem, copy-paste into your browser and choose the “CONTEXT” button at right-bottom of the page. So you will go directly to the posting. You will see it via anonymous web-access this way. If you are looking several days later there will be other posts below. Make sure
you scroll up to December, 5. Let me know if any issues.

Below is the picture I have taken today to supply my review.

    1. How groovy is that! Thanks Ivan, we didn’t know about our many appearances on your channel or we would have thanked you sooner ♥ Thanks for the kind review!! Google translate actually did a fine job 🙂

      1. You did it! I’m so excited you have taken a look into my channel and that makes me glad you like the review. As for “Walking In The Air”, I decided to retain it until Christmas eve. Plan to post it to the channel December, 24.

  15. Your Hey Bulldog is just so brilliant! Since the beginning of the MLT Club when I first heard this song on the BAM 3 album, I instantly fell in love with this one! Your guitar work on it and the singing and those woof, woof howling, are all irresistible. Your live at the Cavern version has it’s own wonderful flair I adore from the opening guitar line that is a bit different sounding from the studio version, but every bit as captivating. You both rock out on this one, and you play so tight, and your back up band is superb too. I think my dog Max would of liked it too, I’m sure if I started howling, he would have joined in! Thanks for this supremely fantastic MLT music experience yet again in sound and visually now too! Kudos, you both perform with such finesses on stage as always. The Beatles may have written this one, but it will always be MLT Hey Bulldog for me, you’ve made it all your own.

Classic Rock Forum: MonaLisa Twins Live at the Cavern Club album review

    1. #4 just posted at my Fountain Pen Forum site. Lots of like minded people like me there who love classic 60s music.

My favourite rock band these days are the MonaLisa Twins. If you enjoy Beatles and music of the 60’s, I think you will enjoy MonaLisa Twins. They write their own music, and cover great classic 60’s rock songs, and they like journaling and fountain pens too (more on that later)!

The link to the post. Looks like this post can only be viewed if you have a membership at Fountainpen Network forum. Screenshot posted below.

    2. #5 just posted at the Watchuseek forum.

MonaLisa Twins just released a new album, MonaLisa Twins Live at the Cavern Club, where they feature many of their classic 60’s cover songs as well as some of their original songs in a 2 CD set of 28 songs.

      Here is an album review:

  16. My niece Luli and her siblings in Australia got the Cavern bundle and have been playing it non stop! Apparently the 7 year old, took ownership of the Orange cap and wears it all the time, even for dinner! ????

    1. Good news! Amazon published my review! ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
(I’ve also reviewed on the MLT store). As for Social media, I’ve let that go years ago, the last bastion was Twitter, but it has been a long time since my 6 thousand followers have heard of me.

  17. as usual critiquing and MLT album is next to impossible as to critique means to look for faults and that is close to impossible. Favorite 2 tracks are “Did You Ever Have To Make Your mind” and “White Room”. Least favorite is “Hey Bulldog” but I still listen to it every time because is so obvious the Twins and Rudi are having such fun. My favorite MLT Beatles cover is on Vol 2 but that is for another time

  18. Hi guys,
I don’t do social media so I posted a review on the MLT club site. That’s about all I can do for this challenge.
    Cheers, Darryl.

  19. This one is easy. I may be cheating a bit, but I’m copying and attaching a review I already posted on Amazon US back on Nov 22. They posted it even though I bought my copy of the album (and another as a gift) direct from the MLT website – I’ve done a moderate amount of reviews (mainly classical and jazz) for Amazon so maybe that’s why they let it go thru. Right now I only see mine and one other review on the Amazon US website. We need more! Spread the MLT joy! (Loved today’s video by the way.) (Also, I’ve noticed on the Amazon US site that if you type “Mona Lisa” as two words instead of “MonaLisa”, sometimes not all the albums pull up, including the Cavern Club; just FYI.)

Reviewed in the United States on November 22, 2020

Found MLT (MonaLisa Twins) randomly surfing for music on the internet. One of the few unmitigated good things to happen in 2020. Many of the tracks on this album (Live at the Cavern Club) – not just one or two, but many – are among the best live covers of classic rock and roll I have ever heard. I know that sounds over the top, but I assure you it is true. These are from MLT performances at the Cavern Club (slightly famous 🙂 ) where they had a regular gig (that should tell you something). MLT were definitely channeling the ghosts of past artists on these performances. I am mainly a jazz and classical recordings person/collector (with over 40,000 songs/tracks/albums in my collection, so I like to think I know a small bit about what good music sounds like 🙂 ), but I am also old enough to remember when these songs first came out and what they sounded like and meant at the time. MLT performances honor the integrity of the original songs but infuse them with new life, energy, and creativity. Oh, did I mention MLT originals are excellent also? A couple of their tunes you would almost swear were lost tracks from Lennon/McCartney. The drummer and bassist on these performances were also great – hope they record together again sometime. WIth a few notable exceptions, I’ve rarely liked live recordings of rock and roll and pop artists (unlike jazz artists); the sound tends to be poor and the performances of many of the songs seem forced and overly emphatic and never sound as good as the original even when performed by the original artists. Not the case here, and I mean by a long shot. What you get here are great, straight up performances with heart. The recording quality is excellent – great balance between the instruments and vocals (you can actually hear and understand the words!!!) and no intrusive background noise (amazing!). I am to understand that MLT are something of a family business, and their father is a recording engineer or something along those lines. It shows; comes across as a labor of love and not just a another recording. It is rare when you can get musicianship, performance, excellent material, and great audio quality together at one time; MLT seems to have found a magic formula for this, and not just this one recording, their other albums are superb also. I would be remiss if I didn’t also say the videos of their live performances (many posted on YouTube) are wonderful and so fun to watch – I would buy a concert DVD if available! Anyway, get this album! Or better yet, go to the MLT website and join the MLT Club (I did, and I’m an old dude from the south USA!) and enjoy these recordings, the rest of their catalog, and lots of other interesting, fun material from what seems to be a really wonderful family enterprise. MLT – a couple of VERY talented young ladies with a great team. Send some CDs as Xmas presents, spread the joy.

  20. I really don’t participate in Social Media web sites so I think I am at a disadvantage here. My personal review is that the album is “FANTASTIC”. Live performances usually don’t capture the magic that Mona & Lisa have secured in “Live at the Cavern Club”. I absolutely love the album(CD) and have been non stop with telling all my friends about it. I know this does not spread the word to as broad an audience at using social media but that’s the best I can do.

    1. I’m in the same boat Ron re social media. Won’t be collecting too many points on this one I’m afraid. I think I’ll post a review on the MLT site and collect the 5.

  21. I tried posting a review on amazon.com but wasn’t allowed, so I then tried doing one on amazon.ca. The folks there don’t seem to offer this recording! I did leave one on the MLT website, however. Here is a screenshot:

  22. Well, no extra points. Amazon says i posted some reviews that did not meet their standards(I have never posted a review before) apple app is down
    ????????????????????????

  23. Hello. I’ve just put this review on Amazon.co.uk. it is the text only and I’ll see if can upload a screenshot later.

This live album is definitely one which gives you that ‘wish I’d been there’ feeling. The first few tracks crank up the energy such that you can feel it just by listening. The Twins have the good sense to calm things a little three quarters of the way through with an awesomely harmonised This Boy immediately followed by their own masterpiece June. They then go full throttle to a final crescendo with Revolution.
The vocals throughout are to their usual high quality from Lisa’s deliciously crisp I’m a Believer and She’s a Woman through to Mona’s sultry (I could go as far as spine tingling) ones on Sunshine Superman and My Generation. Their musicianship, plus Callum and Charlie’s, is breathtaking, it all seems so effortless whilst their ability to ensure everyone has immense fun and enjoyment just by being themselves without any gimmicks should make so called super stars feel ashamed.
The 60s were the time of the beautiful people, these girls take this to a new level in so many ways.

    Now for another one elsewhere.

      1. Oh and I’ve just added this to my Facebook page as I don’t have access to any other relevant sites. Cheating a bit possibly but I’m thinking laterally.

    1. At last Amazon.co.uk have pulled their finger out and verified my review and a screenshot is attached. Great to see that there are 4 reviews there at present, all 5 star, and I wonder how many more are awaiting clearance from Amazon. As I didn’t buy my copy of the album from Amazon it seems that their UK wing is not so draconian as others as I have read that some of you have had reviews rejected by Amazon USA.

Why not have a go on Amazon.co.uk to earn yourselves points!

  24. Wow, owl-oooooo woof; my fingers hurt! Some kind of crazy chords you stretching them to play… you can talk to me!!! When you’re lonely you can talk to me….
Another exciting, entertaining, awesome performance! I loved it and I am so glad I got to see it. It would also be cool to see Callum and Charlie on the guitars with Mona on drums and Lisa on bass. But, they were fantastic where they were. A phenomenal group of extremely talented musicians and vocalist. Great job y’all. Love, love, loved it!!!

  25. I left a mini review on the albums page here.
The album is (of course) amazing.
I probably use that word too much when describing the twins and their music, but thats what they are!

  26. This is a great way to get reviews! I submitted a review at Amazon.com and took a photo of the screen before I submitted it because I know that it takes some time for them to evaluate a review and “yay” or “nay” it. One of the things I wanted to highlight in my comments about “Live at the Cavern Club” is how easy it is for me, while listening to the music, to picture myself there, with a beverage and friends, listening to the performance. I hope Amazon.com approves this. I recently published a book and they’ve rejected reviews from a few of my readers because they were “too positive”.

  27. I haven’t gotten my cds yet but based on what I’ve seen and heard on the club I think you guys have evolved into a kickass live band! Such energy and passion! You obviously love performing and it shows! I would love to see you live myself!

  28. I wrote a review on Amazon. We’ll see if “they” post it. Since I didn’t buy the album from Amazon, I included a picture of my autographed copy to prove I did own it.
Meanwhile, here’s something I posted on FaceBook back in October. Some of you may know why I posted it on that particular date. I’ve heard nothing but positive responses from my FB friends for this and others MLT videos I’ve shared.

    1. If I fell is the song that I met Mona and Lisa with on Facebook in November of 2018 and it’s been a love affair ever since, I just can’t get enough of your music.

      1. Richard, the song was about to hit 2 million views on YouTube, so I was trying to get friends to play it. It hit that mark the following day (October 28)

  29. I’m not much of a social media person – this site is an exception for me. I do spread the word about your wonderful music with people I know. I posted earlier on your cavern club video page, and I do have a Facebook account, so I posted there also.

  30. Woooo! Arf, Arf. Grrrr love it! Great job ladies!
An iconic song made even. Better now that the Renowned MonaLisa Twins have covered it. Superb job band! I’ll be singing this all day????❤????????‍♀️❤????‍????

  31. My review of the live at the cavern club Album

The album is absolutely brilliant Mona and Lisa sure know how the songs are to be performed. I love all the songs especially please Mr Postman. Hey bulldog she loves you and you can’t do that all in all a great Album

  32. OK, well here’s my first attempt at doing some shameless promotion for my favorite twins. This just went up on Facebook for all the world to see. I’m sure they will be so busy filling orders after these posts hit the internet that they won’t get any sleep for the rest of the month. Lol. Merry Christmas you two.

  33. I just got the package and to my surprise I had ordered two copies of MonaLisa Twins plays the Beatles and more CD. But it’s no problem. I’ll send in a new order for the Cavern gig and give the surplus CD to my daughter as a Christmas present. Here’s my review.

  34. I’m afraid too that when I tried to add a review on Apple Music I got the following message: “The item you’ve requested is not currently available in Apple Music in the United Kingdom.”

  35. I was amazed how well you rock on this album. I mean the sound is much more aggressive than in some previous versions ant that´s a damn good thing. Maybe the 99 nights before that have made you more tighter live group. The Hamburg time made Beatles a real rock band and maybe they were at their best on stage this time. The Beatlemania era concerts were more chaos and hysteria than rock´n´roll. 100 night at Cavern means maybe same to you that Hamburg means to Beatles. That means I really love this album. Your four original songs fit perfectly to the set and that´s great. My favorite tracks ? Almost everyone but especially “For What It´s Worth” and “Paint It Black”.

    1. There’s a review on Amazon.co.uk from a Helen Mortimer. Is she related to you? If so I’d post a screenshot here to earn some points especially as it is such a good review.

      1. Cheers Philip, I wrote the Amazon review, but the account on their is in my wife’s name. Thank you for your kind comments about the review 🙂

  36. I’m afraid when I tried to write a review on Amazon.com I was greeted with this message:

“We apologize but this account has not met the minimum eligibility requirements to write a review. If you would like to learn more about our eligibility requirements, please see our community guidelines.”

The mimumum eligibility is a spend of $50 within the last 12 months. I bought a book from Amazon.com in February 2020 costing $52.92, so I’ve queried this policy decision with them. They say it’s a technical issue which may take 2-3 working days to resolve.

C’est la vie. On to Amazon.co.uk then ….

    1. Don’t worry Derek you can always post it later and retrospectively add to today’s challenge. I’m having to do that with yesterday’s and Amazon UK is a doddle.

  37. Here is my first review of the day, added to the Alphabandical WhatsApp group I referenced on Day 1 of the 2020 Advent Calendar.
