Day 5 – Animals and Kids …

Animals and Kids …

Are there any better ingredients for a good YouTube video? We’re watching the type of videos today that we usually scroll through at 2am instead of sleeping.

Something fun to lighten up Monday morning! Here are the links to the submitted clips:

Excited Dog

Lying Toddler

If you’ve got some more fun, short videos for us to watch you can still submit them and Michaela might group them together on another day later in the month. 🙂

Stay groovy!

  1. I stopped at the dog at the beginning. They were watching ice hockey. Toronto Maple Leafs. Nielander passes to Matthews who scores.

  2. Just wait a few years and when you guys buy another Politician… definitely buy this little girl when she is grown! lol

  3. Mona and Lisa,
Great video and such a lovely laid back approach you both have! So amazing to me. The little girl was making sure to let us know she did not touch the food! So funny, thru out the years we have video’s of our kids doing funny things. One that comes to mind is my older son while we was on vacation , he was 3 years old at the time, he got a hose and was squirting everyone at the hot tub, so funny!! Thanks for sharing
    Bill and Maddie

  4. Greetings,
I have soooo many stories of I could tell but I do not want to hog (lol) too much space here – so I’ll try to limit it to a few.
As a young boy, I lived in a relatively small 3 bedroom apartment with my parents & three siblings. We had lots of pets over the years, but they were usually of the small variety. At one time or another we had lots of fish in two tanks, a canary, parakeets, and small turtles. Years later, after I left the nest, I had cats.

The three turtles, we bought from a pet store, each had a different color shell (please don’t anyone yell at me – I know now it could be dangerous or deadly to the turtle to have its shell painted, although one article said it is okay if you do it right).
There was a red, blue & green turtle. One of my brothers and my sister (the twins) and I would try to have races to see which turtle can go faster. We took good care of them.

My oldest brother, who had attended the High School of Performing Arts & Julliard College, was a modern dancer (although he could do all types). He was once on an album cover, with other teenagers, of a singing group – The Four Aces.
Anyway, this is a bird story – One day, when he was in his teens, he was to dance on a TV Variety Show. We had an old-time TV where sometimes you needed to bang the side of it to get good reception. So there was a lot of excitement, noise and commotion in my apartment. One of us was trying to get a clear picture on the TV and one of our birds got his head stuck in the side of the cage and was screaming for help.
We freed the bird and managed to watch my brother dance, which was cool.
BTW -one of the parakeets we had was named Skipper and my mom taught him to talk a bit. Don’t laugh, but one thing he (or she?) said was “Kiss, Bobby, Kiss”. I was honored lol.

Oh and, just one more thing, one summer when I was in Ten Mile River Boy Scout Camp, in Narrowsburg, NY (I was 11 or 12) we had a porcupine as a pet. My father, who was with us, got a few quills in his hands, but the rest of us were careful. Guess what we named him? Porky (yes I know it might seem dumb cause Porky is also a pig lol).

Thanks for the video today and see ya later.
    Cheers,
    Bobby S.

  5. OMG that dog was flipping out watching that ball game…sooo funny…reminds me of myself when I’m watching my favorite teams and I’m going crazy…..and that little girl was a riot….30 years ago there was a country singer, Collin Raye, had a hit with “That’s My Story” (and I’m Sticking to It”) written by Lee Roy Parnell and Tony Hazelden…..and by golly she WAS STICKING TO IT😂😂😂😂❤️🧡

    1. Wow Rick, I couldn’t believe that great Collin Raye song was so old! I looked it up and yes, it was released in 1994. Same year a couple of very talented twins I know were born!

      1. Hey Stephen,
Collin Raye, or Floyd Elliot Wray (his birth name) is only 62. That’s not really old lol. (I understand maybe you thought he was younger).
        Bobby

      2. I was a country music DJ back then…I remember all those songs…did not know his real name and that he was a member of the Wrays…I’ve heard of them…they were a Texas band and I live in the Dallas / Ft Worth area…….I also have … in my mind…a special connection to the MonaLisa Twins…..my last day in radio was June 15, 1994…they were born the next day….of course I didn’t know any of that until I became an MLT Club member.

    2. Hi Rick,
Yes, I remember that song. He also recorded with a band called The Wrays.
Two of my favorites of Collin’s songs that I remember are “One Boy, One Girl” and “In This Life”.
      Thanks for reminding me.
      Bobby

      1. I was a country music DJ back then…didn’t know his real name or know he was a member of the Wrays…The Wrays were a Texas band…I live in Dallas /Ft Worth area….I have…in my mind only…a connection to the MonaLisa Twins….my last day as a radio DJ was June 15,1994….they were born the next day…of course I didn’t know that until I discovered the Twins and joined the MLT Club.

      2. Hi Rick,
Thanks for writing it is so good to hear from you. Wow, you were a DJ, that is so cool. I had some aspirations to go into that field, but I never pursued it. I have become friendly with some DJs over the years, some in person & others on the phone &/or radio. Did you ever hear of Cousin Bruce Morrow, I spoke with him a few times?
I do not know about Texas, but here in NY, there are so many people who want to do that but not enough jobs available.

As far as Country Music is concerned, although it is not super popular in NY, it is very popular in other areas of the U.S. You probably know this, but I found out a few years ago that Country Music has the most radio stations in the nation – more than any other genre.
It’s great to be a member of the MLT Club. Take care,
        Bobby

      3. You mentioned you’re from NY….where abouts?…I was born in NY State…Syracuse area…lived there for 20 years…1950-1970……I definitely enjoy MLT. !

      4. Hi again Rick,
I was born in Manhattan (NYC) and now live on Long Island. If you have a chance to read my comments from yesterday’s video, I elaborate on my neighborhood. Take care.

  6. Hi Mona, Hi Lisa, Hi MLTClub friends, I’m loving the advent calendar.. but I’m very busy this December, so I’m not commenting often.. I have a suggestion and a request.. for the Christmas livestream., play some of the songs from her first concert “Mona Lisa and band” it would be great to hear your evolution from teenagers to talented women., Dear girls, please play “Alone” ..I love this song.

  7. I know I’ve shared the first photo of my little friend Bailee with you. Here are a couple of other photos from her stay at Uncle Brian’s house.
I run into the doe on an almost daily basis on my morning beach walk. She is very approachable and friendly (much like the two of you). Last week, she let me scratch behind her ears. I won’t ask to scratch behind your ears though. 😉

  8. One more Lady Jane Beagle picture…this time with her two “Lamb Chops”. I wonder if they are related to LampiBampi!

  9. This is Lady Jane Beagle, our Pride and Joy. Legend is that Stevie Ray Vaughn wrote a song about her…okay just kidding. This picture was taken during the height of the pandemic when we spent our days watching classic reruns on television. MeTV is a small network in the U.S. that specializes in shows from the 1960s, the 1970s, and the 1980s.

As I said in a previous post today, she is fifteen years old. This afternoon, Lady Jane had a successful appointment at the eye doctor. We discovered some cloudiness in her eyes a year or so ago but with daily eye drops and with quarterly examinations, she has been progressing nicely. Her vision is good, except for stairs. Luckily, we live in a ranch home and whenever she needs to tackle a step down, I usually carry her.

Lady Jane still can jump on and off the couch with her usual gusto.

Like the dog in the first video today, Miss Beagle is a big Toronto Maple Leafs fan. Her favorite baseball team is, of course, the Toronto Blue Jays!

    1. Ohhh, what a sweet lady! I’m so glad you are managing her eye problems well. 15 years sound like an amazing age for a Beagle.

      1. Thank you Lisa. She is our spoiled little pooch. Her “cousins of LampiBampi” help keep her company during the day, but I come home for lunch daily to give her some well-deserved attention!

Thank you to both you and Mona for hosting the Advent this year. It is a great way for the MLT members to be a part of your Christmas season!

    2. Hi Christopher,
      Nice dog.
I was wondering if anyone else in the Club watches ME TV. Not sure where you live?
The station comes out of New Jersey and we also receive it here in NY. I love it.
So many good programs. Some of my favs are: MASH, Twilight Zone, Alfred Hitchcock & The Fugitive which airs on Sunday night (Monday morning) at 2 am lol.
And of course on Saturday night is Svengoolie, showing classic horror & SciFi films and the Ed Sullivan Show on Sunday night. I love when he shows the British groups that came here in the ’60’s. Oh and so many great Western shows from yesteryear.
      Take Care,
      Bobby S.

      1. I live about a half-hour from Buffalo, NY and I receive MeTV through their station. Green Acres is my favorite, and Svengoolie is awesome. In fact, I have a Svengoolie t-shirt and an autographed chicken!

We leave the television on during the day so Lady Jane Beagle has company. She loves her afternoon westerns! I teach school so we start by 7:15 so I usually get home by 3:00. Therefore, I can catch those The Rifleman episodes!

      2. I’m a MeTV fan too! My top shows would probably be, in no particular order, The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Twilight Zone, MASH, Star Trek, and Green Acres.

  10. I saw that dog video a while back and laughed my butt off! I had a dog many years ago that was a mixed shelty and it used to play with our cat “Bert”. Sometimes Bert would put his whole head in the dog’s mouth! I kept thinking “this won’t end well!” but the dog was really gentle with that cat. They were pals! They used to roll all around the floor. Hilarious to watch.

I think it’s now official, Mona & Lisa are “For the birds”! 😉

  11. Can’t go wrong with videos of animals and children. Here’s our pets. Lennon the cat and McCartney the dog enjoying the sunshine. The black smudge on Lennon’s forehead is in the shape of a JL and it was much more pronounced when he was a kitten, so he was very easy to name. When we later got a dog, what else could we call him? George and Ringo still to come!

  12. Have seen both of those a hundred times and still laugh, but I hadn’t seen either of the ones Lisa showed. Our two cats are like watching funny videos all day long.

  13. The dog is a real (American) football fan. His reactions are the same as human football fans. The little girl should try out for the lead singer of Focus since I can understand her either. I had two Walker Coon hounds, Cloe and Bubba. Since there aren’t any coons where I live they adapted to treeing squirrels .. and cats.
Mona your hair really looks good longer. Are you going to catch up to Lisa’s?

  14. Our Siberians Penny and Oliver. My wife and stepson are both allergic to cats. A few years ago, my stepson’s girlfriend did some research and found Siberians produce less of the proteins in their saliva that cause allergies. He had no allergic reaction after visiting a breeder. It’s been great having our four-legged entertainment centers!

    1. Oh, that’s interesting. Our Dad’s allergic too but loves cats! I’ll show him your post 🙂
      VERY cute photos!

  15. Love videos like these. Seen the dog one before and it is hilarious. Once I start watching the animal channels I just can’t stop! Currently my wife and I have 2 granddogs which we take care of quite frequently. I find dogs to be extremely lovable and loyal. They are family!!

  16. I remember coming home from school and my dog was waiting for me. Such loyalty.
I’m sure your pigeon will continue to improve with all your T. L. C
    Cute videos.

  17. The story of Trudy reminds me of another bird rescue story. It’s maybe a bit macabre, but at least the bird remains uneaten at the end…

So, many years ago I volunteered at a public aquarium that had a few birds from an associated wildlife rehabilitation center. One was a crow that outwardly was fine, but that had imprinted on people and was not thought to be able to survive on its own. That was a difficult concept to explain, and the crow’s gregariousness meant that visitors were always asking.

Then one day the poor crow got a foot caught in the escalator, which injured it so badly that it had to be amputated.

Nothing could stop the indefatigable crow. After a brief convalescence, the crow was back among the exhibits, hopping about on a foot and a stump, seemingly no worse for wear. The only thing that changed was that visitors could now see that it had but one foot and stopped asking why the crow couldn’t be released back into the wild.

I guess there’s a moral in there somewhere, but I haven’t figured it out.

    1. Crows are such cheeky little fellas! I’m glad he was okay in the end and could live happily amongst his human friends.

    2. Wow, seems like quite an extreme length to go just to avoid having to put up with too many nosy questions! Some researchers have reported that certain crows display the intelligence of 5 year old humans. A fascinating book on animal intelligence is by Frans DeWaal, called “Are We Smart Enough to Know How Smart Animals Are?”.

  18. Well, those two video’s had me crying with laughter. I don’t have pets but I like watching the squirrels climbing up the bird feeder pole in my garden, and then encountering the plastic dome, realising they can’t get past and sliding back down the pole. And the Parakeet that won’t be deterred by a bunch of Magpies as it tries to get at the fat balls with its curved beak. – So funny!
I’m currently listening to your Christmas album and love your version of ‘Walking in the air’, May I also suggest this for the 23rd, and maybe we could have a family thing and have your dad playing that lovely rolling Bass-line !?

  19. A neighbour of mine recently took care of an injured baby pidgeon she found. He was doing quite well and could fly around when a hawk got him. That was really sad.
I hope everything goes well with Trudy!! I would love to hear her news.

    1. Oh no 🙁 That’s a big fear we have about re-releasing her once she would be ready to. We’ll have to send her to some self-defence classes before and read up on all the ways to minimise the risk.

      1. I guess that must be tricky teaching a wild animal to be careful when it’s raised by people… Maybe the bird-expert connections you made when taking care of Neeve will be helpful! 🙂

  20. Here’s Buddy n Corky … I had also grown up with a demonic demented cat ( sorry cat lovers but she was indeed, and later on became severely allergic to cats, and had also 2 other dogs as pets prior to Buddy & Corky that I grew up with….,To concur….I’m indeed a Dog Lover ( am somewhat allergic to some breeds as well, but nothing like cats )

  21. Awwwwww…. Kids n Animals, the best kind of entertaining videos Those were funny to watch … I used to laugh so hard til I couldn’t breathe and/or my bladder let loose …lol… whenever I’d watch the USA show -America’s Funniest Home Videos with the late Bob Saget as the host ….
One of my cousins, had a previous pet dog that could somewhat in tune howl along to ” Happy Birthday “, I saw the video at my late Aunt’s one time I was visiting up near Toronto for summer vacation for a week, it was hilarious and amazing at same time .
The last 2 pet dogs that we had in our house Buddy & Corky, Buddy , I could dress him up, vacuum him and he enjoyed , didn’t bother him but Corky, no way, couldn’t barely keep his wee tshirt on and his wee rubber boots, had tgem on long enough to take a fast photo with my camera before had them off…lol..,also Corky hated the oil/furnace guy that would come to our house at the front under the living room window outside, to put oil in the thing that would go into oil furnace in the basement…didn’t matter what time of day, etc, Corky would hear him outside, jump up on top of chair and go into attack mode barking/growling and did so until he became deaf/blind, ( Buddy unfortunately succumbed to injuries when he got hit chasing a groundhog from our yard that ran across the road )

Loved your reactions, discussion today, and am thoroughly enjoying this year’s Advent 2022 Calendar Edition immensely, learning loads, laughing, etc…. Thankyou …

Here’s a photo of our last 2 pet dogs we had at our house, Buddy the bigger one and my fur baby wee Corky ( I chose Corky out of the litter where we had got him from from a lady whose dog had the pups )

    1. I never heard of a vacuum-able dog! That must have made grooming a little easier 😉 Lovely stories, thanks for sharing them ♥

      1. Thankyou Lisa for replying, yes , Buddy thoroughly enjoyed being vaccumed to be groomed while Wee Corky hated vaccums, went on “Attack Mode “, and Corky didn’t really like the hair dryer either as I had to use hairdryer on Cirky to help speed up him becoming dry quicker, he was under 20 pounds in weight, but he somewhat tolerated tge hairdryer but Buddy, whenever I take out vacuum to do the house vacuuming, Buddy eagerly awaiting for his vacuum Massage Groom while Corky barked in utter disgust…lol…

Wee Corky hated baths too….. he’d jump out of tub, and run out of bathroom lije a bat outta hell–abd run around tge house, jump on sofa & his chair to dry off best he could before I’d come out armed with hairdryer …lol… Damn, I miss those 2 doggies dearly…..

  22. Meriel and I share your love of all creatures, and we love seeing clips of the ones you help. We have 3 cats, one of whom is a break-and-enter expert. She can get into anything; we often come home to find our dresser drawers open, and our clothing strewn about the room! I’m attaching a photo of her doing a turtle imitation, as well one of my daughter, with her deer friend. She has one special deer who comes to her and licks her all over every time we visit the cemetery where she and a large group of deer live. I’m also attaching a scary one of a friend’s cat we looked after for a few days. He is actually only yawning but looks positively demonic! Lastly, I’m attaching one of a praying mantis I had the pleasure to spend some time with one day in my garden. We had quite a conversation!

    1. Great picture of the mantis. It reminds me of a mantis story. We had a bug light outside our house at one time. The mantises would visit it and eat their fill. One night I watched a male approach a female mantis with obvious intentions. He stroked her back. She shoved him away. He stroked again. With lighting speed the larger lady mantis grabbed him, then ate him. I’m glad human courtship isn’t quite so dangerous!

      1. Geez, the female is supposed to wait until after mating to devour the male. I guess she didn’t see him as having good parent potential but would still make a nice snack.

    2. What a cute and rare turtle cat you have! 🙂 Your daughter is real-life Snow White. Deer are such beautiful animals and difficult to befriend, I would imagine. How special their friendship must be!

  23. Hello. Last year during the Advent Calendar I included our Part Maincoon cat that we rescued 9 years ago. He was Clarence the King of the kingdom of cats. Lol This year he took on a kitty illness that he didn’t pull through. We Are still paying the hospital bill. My wife and son decided to first rescue a 1 yr Tabby that had a rough life. He is now beginning to act like a normal kitty. Then my wife found a family that had a liter of part Maincoon kittens. My wife decided to take in 2. Here’s a couple of pics. My wife and son are cat people. I’ll post a crazy drunk squirrel video if my wife finds it. She took the video. Everyone stay safe. God Speed. Stay Groovy! ❤️🌹🤘

    1. I’m so sorry to hear that Clarence didn’t make it 🙁 He will live on forever in the story of the Kingdom Of Cats ♥
Thanks for taking in a rescue and giving him a new chance at life!! What a cutie!

  24. These were fun – you can’t go wrong with kids and animals.

I could and probably should write a book on my encounters with animals, but here a few examples of bird encounters:

As is true with most people, I have had lots of bird encounters in our life. We have grass and a few trees in our back yard, which makes it a great place for migrating birds.

One of the fun things that happens here is that the Gambel’s quail in our area like to nest in large flowerpots in people’s yards. Poor mom quail has to put up with people walking past the pot while she’s sitting on the nest. When the eggs finally hatch, the poor little chicks have to climb up to the rim of the pot and jump out. They hit the ground hard and then get up, shake off the jump, and run to mom. Here’s a pic of a clutch leaving our front patio. (The videos were too large to load here.)

I’ve also included a pic of one that couldn’t get out of the nest before mom and the others left. We kept it for a couple of days until the animal rescue people took it. It was hard to see it go. There’s also a pic of the chick with a substitute mom.

We get hawks in the yard from time to time, usually bringing in something they’ve caught, a grackle in this case. They are beautiful birds to see up close.

One of the most amazing bird sights I’ve seen was a hawk and a raven in what I assume was playing in the sky above a mountaintop. One would chase the other, coming in from above and behind as if to strike. Just as the chaser arrived, the other bird would turn and they would go talon to talon, then break apart, only to immediately switch roles. I watched this for at least 15 minutes before they finally quit. As I was leaving the mountain top a while later, they started up again.

A final one for today: I was out on somewhat remote public land one day, coming back to the car after a hike, when along came a trained Merlin Falcon. It flew by me a couple of times, then landed on a sign or bush a few feet away. If I got too close, it would fly around, come back and land again. It kept close to me, but I could not get it to come to me. I got in touch with the game department and was told that the falcon’s owner was nearby. It is legal to hunt with falcons here and that was what was going on. They also said that I was very lucky to have been able to watch it in action.

    1. What a great set of stories, thanks for sharing them as well as the photos! Quail chicks have got to be some of the cutest things around, they are so tiny.

We’ve always lived in quite rural places with birds around but never had the kind of interactions we’ve experienced this year with Neve the gosling and Trudy the pigeon. Maybe we’re finally starting to get to know birds! 😉 Seems like you’re definitely a bird person too!

      1. I wonder if Neve sent the word out over the “bird-net” via “tweeter” that you and Lisa are “Bird Whisperers”! Neve’s reaction to your singing showed me that you certainly are. I hope you have the same luck with Trudy that you did with Neve. Pigeons are also supposed to be smart birds, so it might be another interesting adventure.

  25. Good morning from the PWC! That is the most hilarious video of the dog getting so into the sports! Speaking of which I think Korea is playing Brazil at the World Cup today! I may have the same moment as the dog. HAHAHA! It will be a long shot for Korea, but a lot of fun I am sure.

That video of the little girl is the cutest. I bet if she had a bigger vocabulary, she would have defended herself even more colorfully. I had 3 nieces growing up that were the most adorable, and that reminded me of them. Christmas and kids = Magic.

Thanks so much for sharing the clips of Trudy. You are both so awesome for rescuing her, and it looks like she is getting on well. The photo of her on Mona’s shoulder is priceless, love it! Thanks for sharing the story of your tadpole, that is so sad! You know animal experiences stay with you all your life, and some happy and some sad, but the sad ones too tug at your deepest humanity to make you a more caring and loving person, maybe to another person or animal later in life. At least that is what I like to believe.

When I was about 14 I had my big black alley cat Spooky. The whole family embarked on a big 2 week California road trip, and I left Spooky in the care of a friend I gave instructions to take care of outside every day. Left food, water, everything. 2 weeks later when I came home, the first thing I did was to run to the backyard to greet Spooky that I missed so much, and to my anger and horror, the food was left untouched in the bag. I yelled out to Spooky fearing the worst, and a few minutes later he appeared from the bush completely scrawny and lost half his weight, hardly could recognize him. That image of him coming out of the bush answering my call, and seeing him like that tears me up even to this day. I nursed him back to health and he lived for many more years with me with more love than ever. I had some colorful things to say to my so called friend later. Spooky was my best friend growing up for sure.

Thanks so much for these beautiful Advent moments Mona and Lisa, always so meaningful and enjoyable. Love it.

      1. Jung, I think Max was a very polite dog. He waited until you took the picture and then removed the funny green things from his head 🙂

      2. Hi Jurgen, I remember it took a lot of coaxing to get him to hold still while I took the shot. 🙂

    1. Hi Jung,
So I guess you know by now that Brazil beat South Korea 4-1.
Brazil has such a good team.
I was hoping that the U.S. would go further, but they did not make it.
      Take care,
      Bobby S,

      1. Hi Robert
Yeah, I wasn’t expecting too much, but can always hope. I guess a number of countries got eliminated today. USA did great to get as far as they did, considering it’s been a long time. I remember in 2002 Korea made it to the quarter finals. Well hopefully again in my life time, and I will be cheering for USA too. 🙂
        Jung

  26. Both those videos are hilarious! I currently don’t have any pets, or even any old photos handy, but I can share a couple of funny stories from the past.

I once had a cat who loved to spend time as close to the ceiling as possible. One day she engineered a way to get on top of the medicine cabinet in the bathroom. The hinged door of the cabinet was slightly open, and she stepped down onto it with her front paws so that she could peer inside. This caused the door to gradually swing open wider, and her front paws drifted away from her back paws. With no way to get any leverage, all she could do was fall straight down… into the toilet!

A few years back, my wife cooked oatmeal for breakfast every morning and always insisted that I have some. She never added anything at all to give it any flavor, so it was an insipid experience that I regularly complained about. One day she accidentally made a little too much, so she put the excess on a paper plate and set it on the floor in front of the dog. The dog sniffed the oatmeal, and then decided to eat the paper plate instead! I felt fully vindicated.

  27. We once had a turtle named Tinker and another one later that we rescued named Pistachio. He had a cracked shell. Somebody brought him to us thinking he was ours, and Dana cleaned out and medicated his wounds. We kept him from that Fall over winter & released him at a nature preserve by a creek bed in the Spring.🤰🐢🐢

    1. How cute, thanks for taking care of the injured turtle! Looks like it was in great hands with you!

Once when we were on holidays in Croatia many years ago we almost ran over a turtle that was crossing the street. We picked it up and carried it to the closest house about 500 meters away and they realised their turtle had escaped from its pen/terrarium.
They can travel quite the distance if they want to!

  28. Watching you two beautiful joyous superstars being yourselves is a fabulous way to start the day. The dog was watching ice hockey and reacted to a goal, so I’d bet he’s Canadian…
Perfect observation by Mona that the little girl would be a great public defender – stick to the story and never give in

  29. We have a fifteen year beagle named Lady Jane. She was a rescue and has been the perfect pooch. We are so lucky to have Miss Beagle in our lives.

I especially enjoyed the first video clip. They were watching a Toronto Maple Leafs hockey game with announcer Joe Bowen. It sounded like William Nylander of the Maple Leafs just scored. The dog must be a big Toronto fan!

    Go Leafs Go!

  30. Nice way you treat the birds – you have a warm heart. Teaching animals tricks is a growing thing as people find out that many animals can learn – huh! – of course they can, you just have to find what they are especially good at. I had a girlfriend back in 1970 who had a special illness where she could fall down on the floor and have painful cramps. I never experienced that because she had a dog who could feel that a stroke was coming in her ca. 10-15 minutes before it would happen, and she could get her medicine which stopped the stroke. It also learned other things like fetching water in a fridge. Danish police have shown how they train dogs to find dead corpses in WATER. Now on to a thing I had with a parrot when I visited Isla Margarita in 2004 with my persian wife. There was a parrot and I learned the parrot to say hello/goodbye in persian – kodahafez. The fun was that every time i passed the bird it greeted me with that – not anybody else – fun eh. Here is an example of such a parrot – have fun

    1. Some of the things dogs can do are absolutely mind blowing! It’s great that your girlfriend at the time had the chance to have such a good companion to look after her!
We once played a festival in Finland close to the Russian border and we were invited to get a tour and presentation from the Finnish border patrol. They showed us how one of their dogs could find a single paperclip in the middle of a lawn and they told us that their dogs can smell if a human crossed the border days later! It’s fascinating how good their noses are!

That parrot video was so good! They are a huge commitment and need lots of attention and time so I don’t think I’ll ever own a parrot but I love following parrot channels on YouTube!

  31. I found this YouTube video years ago and bookmarked it. It’s a 40 seconds long video of a laughing dog:

Attached is a photograph of our champion bloodline Border Collie. Her name is Tiger Walker, she’s a flyball competition dog and she’s also a pretty good singer.

      1. Thanks, Lisa!!

Tiger is daddy’s girl. She sees me first thing in the morning and sings a little song.

Life is good, and it sure is great being a MLT Club member. It’s the neatest thing ever. Time to go shopping in the MLT store.

  32. So funny, great choice of clips. Ideal for watching on a cold winter morning! I have pigeons in my garden and they love the bird bath, in fact some will sit in it for ages just to keep the other birds out. However the blackbirds do get in sometimes and splash about like little kids. I also have squirrels who sometimes try to get the bird peanuts as they are very clever. However as I live by the coast the seagulls are the real menace because if you put any bread out for the little birds, they swoop down like a big gang and steal the lot! They are even known to sit on the top of buildings near fast food places and take food straight out of people’s hands – very scary. I’ve included some clips below where the seagulls are showing how clever they are!

  33. Your videos are a great start to the day! I have a dog, his name is Tom, and he is hilarious he makes me laugh every day! He’s always very present, and even if I’m not home, he’s looking out the window to see when I get back

    1. Aw, that is so sweet! I used to have a roommate whose dog sometimes lay down in front of the entrance door waiting for her to come home.

  34. That dog clearly knew what he was watching! Maybe in another life he played sports! 😆
It’s heart wrenching to see nature at it’s cruelest, I see that out my window sometimes and it’s heart wrenching. I can’t imagine if it is your pet.
I always had dogs growing up, but I was closest to my ponies (they we not “mine” but my grandparents’). I remember them well. The younger (B&W) picture is a Shetland pony “Tina”, I’m riding in tandem with my cousin Cynthia. The color one in Bazooka a Welsh pony who was very tall, I’m 10 or 12 in the picture. I had so many adventures with Bazooka, he was quite hot headed, but we got along so well.
    Fun video! Thank you!
