Day 14 – Poking Fun …

We love a good parody, especially when it pokes fun at the things we love the most, like music. Having watched a couple of performances of 70s hits during this Advent Calendar so far, this prog-rock parody submitted by Alan fit perfectly. 😉

You can check out the original video here:
Bill Bailey – Leg Of Time

After editing today’s video, “The Leg Of Time” is now permanently stuck in our brains. Also, the song gets funnier with each listen.

We’d love to see your favourite comedy clips in the comments below! We watch a lot of stand-up so we’re always on the lookout for some new, funny bits. Thank you in advance already :-).

We’ll chat with you in the comments and tomorrow’s video!

  1. My favorite comedian is George Carlin. Also Johnathan Winters. Favorite female comedian is Maria Bamford. Bill Burr is hilarious, Dave Attell too!

  2. Thanks so much for what you do. I believe that my favorite comedian is Bill Engvall. Everything he’s done since “Here’s Your Sign” just cracks me up.

  3. Hi Mona and Lisa…I’m loving the advent calendar it’s brilliant !
I always look to the Beatles to make me smile and this clip with Liverpool comedian Ken Dodd is great…not sure if you have seen it but it’s kind of timeless …from ‘1963…take care lots of love ❤️

  4. Very funny video.
My favorite comedy clips would have to be ,Steve Martin.
He was on Saturday Night Live doing skits with ,Dan Aykroyd, called Two Wild And Crazy Guys. And many other movies staring Him.
Father of the Bride was very funny.

  5. Great Video! And very funny! I love Abbit and Cosello Who’s on First, makes me laugh each time I watch it. Also Will Farrel in Saturday Night Live More Cowbell

  6. Thinking of comedians last night, I remembered whe have in the Netherlands another type of comedians , called cabaretiers, the best for me was Toon Hermans, a dutch cabaretier, that was very funny in a simple way, he could talk about a curtain for 15 minutes, but also he made very good songs, very romantic, hereby a song called the apples on an apron, a great song.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_8M7lngp6I

  7. I love these moments, when I feel like being in the same room with you, Lisa and Mona – like friends do! I wish you all the best!

For the live stream, could you _please_ consider arranging “Peace on earth/Little drummer boy” for a live performance of the MonaLisa Twins? I mean, er… I mean my heart starts pounding and I almost cry already of the mere thought… These times deserve your serene touch on the sentiment that is occupying our heads constantly.

    yours, Hande

    1. Thanks Hannu (or should we call you Hande?), we feel the same 🙂
We already have the songs planned for the live-stream but haven’t chosen Little Drummer Boy as it is not that fitting to perform with just 2 guitars. If we need some extra songs we will consider it! Thanks for being here 🙂

  8. It seems we often only have two choices in life; to laugh, or to cry. I’ll always look for the glass to be half full. Loved Day 14!

  9. Wowzers …. Ladies and Gents…..Ding Ding Ding, we have struck Comedic Gem Gold here with this topic video/submission, we’ve all seem in one way or another share mutual memories of comedic legend/icons/sense of humour tastes, etc… and that’s tickle your funnybone fab, gives the bladder a workout with your belly …. Brightened Up the day, Laughter…. Best Remedy for All Things, Learned some unknowns, rediscovered lot/forgotten about comedy acts, movies, etc …. Loving All commentary and how we’ve all just mutually connected on an even further #MLTBuzzLuvGroovified Level …. Humour Comedy Groovy Central …. Thoroughly Enjoyed Day 14 🤣🤘👍👌😂

  10. Greetings,
I really enjoyed listening to Mona & Lisa today, after the video, and I smiled and laughed a lot.
There are a lot of good comedians that were already mentioned in the comments, so I won’t repeat their names – except one –
Weird Al who is so cool at musical/comedic parodies.
Also, Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy.
    See you later,
    Bobby S.

  11. Some of the funniest stuff I ever saw were the sketches on the Carol Burnett Show. It aired from 1967 to 1978. It wasn’t aired live, but it was recorded live, edited only for length usually. Youtube has lots of them, search Tim Conway and Harvey Korman, who were part of the cast. Harvey very often broke character and started laughing during a sketch when Tim would crack him up with improvisation it was later revealed.

  12. Bill Bailey is using an Ovation guitar. These were huge in the 1970s and early 1980s. My school music teacher had one and she would let me play it. That always made me feel very privileged. Ended up receiving one from my parents when I was fifteen. Thank you Mom and Dad!

    1. We played some of our first gigs with an Ovation when we stayed in California for a few weeks in 2008. A local friend let us borrow it. They seemed to have fallen somewhat out of fashion (you don’t see them around that much) but I think they’re great. Hope you still have yours 🙂

  13. Whoever came up with the idea to do reaction videos needs to be applauded. Maria and I are enjoying these daily videos so much. We look forward to watching them together when I get home from our store in the evening. Thus, I am a little late to the comments section. I have attached a link for the late, great comedian Mitch Hedburg. 7 minutes of really fun insights and a unique way of looking at the world. I hope you enjoy it.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saoZjwf7Mfo&t=233s

    1. Mitch is the best! Here’s another one of his observations that I love:

“I wear a belt to hold my pants up, but the belt loops in my pants hold my belt up. So I’m confused as to who the real hero is here.”

    2. My sister Knew him From high school, he’s from St.Paul Mn. went to St.Paul Harding High School. very funny guy

    3. Oh, I love Mitch Hedburg, I’ve watched some of his performances way too many times!! 😀
Glad you like these daily videos so much cause we really like filming them!

  14. Have you seen “The Rutles: All You Need Is Cash.”? It is a music mockumentary that documents the career of the band The Rutles ‘the prefab four’ (a parody of The Beatles created by Eric Idle of Monty Python). It was a TV movie that came out in 1978, made with the involvement of the people from Saturday Night Live and features great Beatles-like songs written by Neil Innes. George Harrison even makes has a cameo. It is hilarious and being Beatles fans, you’ll appreciate the story and jokes even more. Really worth finding.

  15. Oh Yes.. Lucy and Chocolate Factory one, the Vegatamin one with Lucy….
    Bill Cosby’s ” I started as a Child ” Album….My sense of humour is warped/varied….

  16. OMG…this is my gem…. love comedy… a great parody singer on YT I discovered awhile back ago…Shirley Serban….worth checking out in in my opinion…My 3 all time fave Carol Burnett show skits, – Mama’s Family-Elephant one… Gone With The Wind spoof….and The dentist one.. Tim Conway/Harvey Kormack…they killed it…Those 2 rarely could not keep straight faces during skits… Robin Williams is another one of my comedic faves….
I could go on there are so many I enjoy…. I do enjoy Fawlty Towers, Are You Being Served, Benny Hill, Mr Bean, Monty Python , Laurel & Hardy , Absolutely Fabulous, French & Saunders, I could just go on and on….lol
A Fab submission today, loved your reactions, my Bladder runneth over …lol….😊🤘🤣😂

  17. There are so many great comedians…as I glanced through some of the comments all the ones I was thinking of had already been mentioned….however there is one that I didn’t see…it’s a guy who is now about 76 years old and has been around for decades but I just recently discovered him through Facebook…JAMES GREGORY (Funniest Man in America)….check him out on YouTube…he truly is a riot😂😂❤️🧡

  18. Happy Wednesday. I further updated my (our) profile. I (Neill) previously added my location and noticed someone else in Phoenix, whose name I did not recognize. That’s kinda wowcool. Today I added a cover image, a recent photo from Joshua Tree National Park, about 4 hour-drive away in California. Our profile pic hints that I might not actually be Kristi, but rather Neill. I suspect there’s something we (I) can do to clarify. Baby steps tho.

Here is a comedic conundrum: How do you make a video of a radio play? In the 70’s, Firesign Theatre produced several humorous LPs in the style of radio plays. Extensive use of sound effects and asides at a rapid pace made it easy to miss many jokes and references by this quartet. As a result, they got funnier the more you listened to them.
    https://youtu.be/1A5DftXzIqs

I find that the adaptation of “High School Madness” from their “Don’t Crush That Dwarf” album to video is both cleverly done and annoying, at the same time. They cleverly adapt vintage film clips that sometimes vaguely aligns with the dialog. Annoyingly, I find myself watching instead of listening. I remind myself that the original is an auditory experience, and the video is just a distraction. Look away from the pictures or open a new browser tab and just listen… better still with headphones. Adapting standup comedy to audio is pretty simple. Creating comedy specifically for listening is a whole different thing. These guys were “a head” of their time.

    1. Like WOW Man! That was too much! I had no idea there was a video version. I have 3 Firesign Theatre albums, yes, on vinyl which I haven’t listened to for some time. I’ll have to rectify that soon. Those guys were brilliant! Along with the Bonzo Dog Band, and other satirical eccentricities, is it not tres amusant having these entertainments show up on the MLT Advent Calendar, of all places? They know not what they’ve started! And remember, we’re all Bozos on this bus.

      1. The “Bozos” album holds up remarkably well considering the state of technology at the time and given the intervening evolution. What ever you do, don’t give up your shoes.

  19. I can’t let this go by without mentioning the Hilarious stand up Peter Kay and his TV series ‘Car share’. His recent sell out tour of arena’s keeps being extended by public demand taking his shows into 2024!! Then, there is the fantastic Billy Connolly who I saw live in 1975.😂😂

    1. I got to meet Billy Connolly after a show he had did in my city eons ago…OMG,he was hilarious, yes …somewhat foul-mouthed in his routine but he Scottish brogue/accent…Just made it that more funnier…He was awesome to meet

  20. MonaLisa try watching School of Rock students singing and playing old school tunes. School of Rock With over 250 locations worldwide began ca. a year before the film School of Rock appeared – that is 2002. Sorry no school in Egland – the nearest is in Spain. School of Rock is the largest music education company in the world. Each year tens of thousands of kids take their very first music lesson and within months perform in a real rock concert, at a real venue. Here are 5 examples. Enjoy.

Go find more of School of rock that proves the past is doing well. Have a nice day.

  21. As a classic movie buff, I like Laurel and Hardy, and WC Fields. Can still repeat their skits almost word for word. In the 70’s-80’s, Benny Hill was on at nightly at 1100 pm. He brought the bawdy British humor. Very funny. But the guy I think was the funniest was Rodney Dangerfield. When he was on the Tonight Show he would steal it from Johnny Carson. Just a riot. To quote Lowell Thomas, “so long until tomorrow.” Peace be.

    1. Out of the three, I’m least familiar with Steven Wright so I’ll have to check him out some more. Love Bill Burr and even got to see him live in Liverpool a few years ago. It’s been a while since I listened to his podcast but I used to love that too.

      1. Steven Wright is the total opposite of Robin Williams. Robin had a manic style that was brilliant. Steven wright is so laid back. Check him out you will enjoy him.

  22. Had a little trouble accessing Day 14 first thing this morning, but once I did, I was able to laugh away the stress. Good choice of video for today for me personally! Humour is very individual as you mentioned, but I find there are many types that make me laugh. I love farcial humour, some slapstick, satire, and verbal wordplay. Lucille Ball is one of the funniest people I’ve ever watched. Here is a clip from the pilot episode for the I Love Lucy show. In it she places a musician auditioning for a band. Very entertaining! (2) I love Lucy: Lucy auditions – YouTube
Robin Williams always amazes me with his lightning quick improv, Monty Python has been a favourite for decades, as well as Mr. Bean (Rowan Atkinson), and the entire cast of the Carol Burnett show, particularly Tim Conway. Just one of many examples: (2) The Dentist from The Carol Burnett Show (full sketch) – YouTube
And as a child, I found the 3 Stooges very funny!

    1. Just saw “The Dentist” on MeTV a little while back…awesome stuff. It always was great seeing them break character and start laughing during a skit!

  23. Was a huge Monty Python’s Flying Circus fan back in the 70’s.As for stand up comedians,my all time favorite is George Carlin, also like Rodney Dangerfield, and more recently Ron White.
    Here’s a clip of Michael Davis,a very talented comedian/juggler.

    https://youtu.be/ww5FOUW2wJE

  24. When I was a kid much of the records I bought were musical comedy. There was Allan Sherman, Tom Lehrer, the Smother Brothers, Spike Jones, and Homer and Jethro. Then years later came Weird Al. I love that stuff!

    1. Hi Gary (I have a brother named Gary),
two things – I love Allan Sherman and especially his song “Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh” I still remember most of the words. I have his album, I think it’s called “My Son, the Folk Singer”?
Weird Al is so great. I came to really appreciate him at a concert venue I worked at years ago and then I went to see him perform again somewhere else.
      Bobby S.

  25. When it comes to musical comedy satire, surely the ones most out standing in their field were The Rutles. Who can forget Hold My Hand, Get Up And go, The Pre Fab four, and Can’t buy Me Lunch?

    1. Right on! One of the funniest bits in that movie was their manager, “Leggy”😄, also Mick Jagger’s interview segment. Len, did you know that the guy who sang like John but with more Liverpool accent was Neil Innes, who played piano & guitar for The Bonzos Dog Band? He, Vivian Stanshall, and Roger Ruskin Spear all had solo careers after the Bonzos.

      1. Being way out in the colonies, I can see that I’m no expert in these historical matters, however a little Wikipedia research regarding Mr. Innes, confirmed my suspicion that he was somewhat complicit, later in the Seventies, with the Pythons. And while it is a tenuous connection at best, it appears that he also had a brief liaison with The Scaffold (Mike McCartney). And we know that there was a connection, even a mentoring, between McCartney, and Mona & Lisa shortly after they arrived in Liverpool. The plot thickens…

  26. Bill Baily is a treasure! I’ve seen videos on you-tube, and he is very intellectual. My favorite comedian of all time was Johnathan Winters. Everything he did was improvised which always blew my mind! He was a big inspiration for Robin Williams.

    1. I once got Jonathan Winters’ autograph as he and his wife exited a movie theatre where he had been interviewed, in Dayton, Ohio. That’s where he began his career, on radio station W-ING. I lived in Dayton area thru my tumultuous teens & twenties. Yes, he’s my fave comedian, too. I guess he had a nervous breakdown once because he got some material out of the experience of being hospitalized: Psychiatrist: “Don’t say that!”. Winters: “Ohh, I dunno… I’m a robin red-breast!”

      1. He was hospitalized because of alcoholism and drugs. He came out clean and sober and still the funniest human alive.

  27. The third Mothers of Invention album “We’re Only in it for the Money,” with cover and interior reversing the Sgt. Pepper’s album design, was one of the most interesting records of the 1960s. The opening song, “Who Needs the Peace Corps?”, ridicules the San Francisco drug and pseudo-hippie culture. Frank Zappa was into film projects. I didn’t like “200 Motels” at all, but Ringo appeared in that movie. There is also an amazing film by a clay animation artist, with a long Zappa guitar solo 🎸playing over speeded-up time-lapse photography. I look forward to the next awesome MLT video! Who could possibly choose a favorite? Stand-up comedians? Well, I do have a favorite Rodney Dangerfield joke: “I watched my son blow out the candles on his birthday cake, and I told him, “I hope you get your wish.” He looked at me and said, ‘If I do, that’s the last time you’ll see me blow out the candles”!

  28. Rodney Dangerfield delivered so many good jokes in that self-deprecating style, the opposite of aggressive comedians like Don Rickles, George Carlin, Jerry Seinfeld. On the other hand, the female comedians have shown more of an ability to laugh at themselves, a test of a really great sense of humor, yes?

  29. I’m going to try to assemble some YouTube videos of comedy clips I love.
First up, George Carlin as the Hippy Dippy Weatherman.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1uaw3WIOlc

Next. Anything from The Carol Burnett Show, especially with Harvey Korman and Tim Conway. Tim Conway’s elephant (you can search that on YouTube) is hilarious, but I want the two together, because they’re classic and hilarious.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cUZhHS0PMM

And from your side of the pond, Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry, Monty Python, and Rowan Atkinson. I want to plug Rowan Atkinson. Hysterically funny, and amazingly bright. He has a MSc in Electrical Engineering. One of my favorites of his is not his humor. On YouTube, I found a speech he gave on defending free speech. It’s long, about 9 minutes, and well worth a watch.

Also from your side of the pond are some amazingly funny sitcoms. Public tv here will sometimes pick them up. And then I saw this sketch from Mrs Brown’s Boys. It’s raunchy and hysterically hilarious. There’s a longer clip but this will do. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PoJEetU0O64&list=RDCMUC0yD7rYO26CAbkOx4rJkCzg&start_radio=1&rv=PoJEetU0O64&t=58

  30. Hello Ladies,
I really enjoy your reactions to these Submissions. They are priceless.
As far as Comedians. The Legendary Three Stooges probably top the list. They are as funny today as they were in the 40s and 50s.
Current favorite would be Jeff Dunham, with his friends Achmed, Walter, Peanut, and Bubba J.
    Have a very Groovy Wednesday
    Rick Ross

    1. Chris Farley was hilarious especially as the roadie dude in Wayne’s World 2 or was it the first Wayne’s World movie, and Meatloaf and Alice Cooper, Aerosmith, etc were funny in their cameos too

  31. I live for comedy and parodies! I always approach each new (to me) act with an attitude of “you can’t make me laugh”, and if I end up laughing despite myself, I know I’ve struck gold. My pantheon includes Monty Python, Steven Wright, Mitch Hedberg, Weird Al Yankovic, and Tom Lehrer.

Here’s a clip from a brilliant-but-cancelled sitcom from the early 80’s. I have yet to meet anyone outside my immediate family who remembers it.

“No Soap, Radio” – Basketball head – YouTube

  32. A swell happy Wednesday greeting to all. I can’t say I am really into comedy shows or very familiar with the comedy skits. Shows that really got me laughing that I can remember were Inspector Clouseau of the Pink Panther series, old Jerry Lewis movies stand out, along with Jim Carrey who has a kind of Jerry Lewis comedy style. I remember some funny moments that tickled my funny bone in Dumb and Dumber, Cable Guy, Pet Detective. Those funny Airplane series movies were pretty funny. Weird Al Yankovich stand out also in some of his early music videos that made me laugh.

Maybe one of the greatest comedy moments of all time would be this one for me. It literally made me and my sister fall on the floor laughing, and still does years later: https://youtu.be/39k067hcgYY

    1. OMG. Talk about a blast from the past. Haven’t seen that in at least 40 years. I don’t know how they can get through those things with a straight face (although, Tony was having trouble).

      1. There certainly were a lot of TV gems back then I remember. Nowadays with 200+ cable TV channels there seems to be less good stuff I can find compared to when there was just 12 channels.

  33. I’m not a big comedy act follower anymore. Much of today’s comedy has gotten so “politically correct” that it just doesn’t work for me.

Ken reminded me yesterday of the Three Stooges, which I loved when I was younger. Judy and I watched “Airplane” again the other day, and got in some laughs even though we’ve seen it at least twice before. And since it’s Christmas, how about “Home Alone”?

    1. I feel you, but I actually think that stand-up comedy is one of the last places where there are still some “politically incorrect” acts! As long as you don’t count the ones on the BBC. 🙂
I’ve never watched the Three Stooges in full but so many here recommended it that we should probably check it out! I remember watching “Home Alone” as a kid … that throwing-up scene will be engraved in my brain forever, haha!

    2. Hi Dennis,
Home Alone is a classic film, but you know, in my opinion, I think the sequel Home Alone 2 – Lost in New York is even better. The scenes with Kevin & the pigeon lady are precious.
      Bobby S.

  34. I really enjoyed todays movie, just because its so much fun to see the both of you have a good time.
In the netherlands in my time there was some comedy like snip and snap and the mountys, but this is not what most members will understand. So there for I choose a typical English comedian:John Cleese, this man is very funny and has done a lot of things from movies to theatre. Off cause fawlty towers and a fish called Wanda. He is a great performer.

  35. Hello everyone! I have a wide range of funny. First, I’ll metchon from the other side of the pond that came over to the USA. Benny Hill and Monty Python comes to mind. I love the edgy Jim Breuer especially his Metal Bands Parodys. I love edgy female comics like Niki Glasser and Rachael Feinstein etc. Always loved Spinal Tap. I really find Frank Zappas very complex music with satirestic lyrics that I find myself laughing to. Mt favorite is The Adventures of Greggery Peccary. Here’s a link. I bought the Studio Tan album in 1978. And no, I was not high! Lol

    https://youtu.be/aymj5wcIhiY

I think I did see some of that guy before. Sounded familiar. Still in limbo. Peace. Stay safe. God Speed. Stay Groovy! ❤️🌹🤘

  36. Steve Martin and George Carlin were two of my favorites back in the 70s.
I remember going to the library to borrow the albums (couldn’t afford to buy)

The point was a great movie, there are a few different versions with different narrators.
My favorite narrator (of course) is Ringo.. Because he’s Ringo!
(ps– anyone else remember both Ringo and George Carlin played “Mr Conductor” on thomas the tank engine?”

  37. Pretty cool/funny video! I had never seen that or heard of that Bill Bailey before, only the one in the song… For me, the parody (?) that sticks out in my memory is Max Headroom, a bit on the abstract side but for a while it was everywhere. Most of us know what it alluded to, but whatever works right?
One of my favorite comedians is Tommy Tiernan. He does a bit during one of his standups from several years back and I simply howl with giggles and laughter every time I hear or see it. Of course, that’s my heritage so it tickles my funny bone more than most, other than perhaps Mrs Brown’s Boys, which is also hilarious. Here’s a link if anyone is interested, it’s called Laughing At A Funeral:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z43v54S_zPQ
Happy dance right now, it’s getting up near the freeze/thaw point for the next couple days here, if that ain’t groovy, what is? YIPPEE!
    D

  38. I’m sorry I didn’t get most of the references in the video, but I loved how it made you both laugh and smile the whole time.

I’m apparently very old in my comedy tastes.
I grew up watching the Three Stooges and still enjoy their slapstick comedy.
    Here’s a good sample:

    https://youtu.be/FVeDt9zSbr0

I’ve always found Steven Wright very funny and thought provoking.

    https://youtu.be/tiGag5emLJg

I also enjoyed Rodney Dangerfield and Henny Youngman – lots of one liners and didn’t need to swear. Eddie Murphy and Chris Rock are great stand up comedians as well.

Lovely way to start the day!

    1. Steven Wright is my absolute favorite standup comedian! No one can tell a funnier joke in fewer words.

“I spilled spot remover on my dog. Now he’s gone.”

“24-hour banking? I don’t have time for that.”

“My neighbor has a circular driveway. He can’t get out.”

    2. Steven Wright has always been one of my very favorites as well, but there’s not much available out there, and a lot that is available isn’t the greatest. You can find some lists.
I always crack up at “What’s another word for Thesaurus?”

  39. The new features on the MLT site are fantastic. Had a difficult time listing just one favorite except for “Baseball” as my favorite sport…there is no doubt about that! So, I listed three or four favorites for most things.

Hopefully, more members will utilize this feature. It is nice to see the interests and the favorites of the members in which we interact.

A former graduate student of mine, who is beginning her studies towards her Ph.D., has been upset about her dating prospects these days. I sent her a video of “Questionable” to show her we have all gone through this. Hopefully, it made her feel a bit better.

Enjoyed everyone’s favorite cartoon choices. Great stuff!

As for comedy…this goes back to the early SCTV days. When Eugene Levy would do his “Bobby Bittman” character I would always laugh. Well, I still do. My wife doesn’t get it, lol.

Here is a Public Service Announcement by the always tacky Bittman:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDHiHIKIOFs

Finally, I am a huge fan of the old television show “Green Acres”. Here, Arnold Ziffel wins a trip to Hawaii:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHX-QAy1uh8

    1. Green Acres has to be the most underrated sitcom of the 60’s! So many hilariously over-the-top absurd characters and situations, with Oliver as a perfect straight man for all the insanity.

  40. Bill Bailey is hilarious! I’m glad you chose that video today. And thanks for acknowledging Harry Nilsson and The Point!
My favorite comedians are Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie in “A Bit Of Fry And Laurie” and, of course, Monty Python, especially their “Ministry of Silly Walks” sketch.
And as for Musical Parodies: PDQ Bach, The Rutles, This Is Spinal Tap and Weird Al Yankovic are all fun to listen to.
Thank you for another fun Advent Calendar episode!

  41. To make a proper parody you must love the object of the parody. Mister Bailey obviously knows 70s bands very well and loves them. Great Stuff ! What becomes the comedians there´s no one to compete the late great Charlie Chaplin. The way he made us laugh and cry same time is a work of genius. His films are timeless classics. I also appreciate another dead guy, John Belushi. “The Blues Brothers” is one of the funniest films ever and also a great music film.

    1. Good point! Yes, you could tell the parody came out of a place of love and admiration! 🙂 I’ll go look up John Belushi!

      1. Dan is from Ottawa…. his Dad Peter ( Peter I think his Dad ‘s name was !?) …. wrote a book about paranormal stuff, or had some kind of interest in it thus in way I think inspired Dan to write the script for Ghostbusters…. Dan and John, Blues Brothers, epic….I think James Belushi has stepped into John’s Bkues Brothers shoes a few times over tge years since John’s passing,…just some fun facts of sidenote interests ….thought I’d share

  42. Hi Mona and Lisa, glad you liked this. It was inspired I think by bands like Wishbone Ash, King Crimson, Rush maybe. You should see Bill Bailey live if you can, like yourselves he plays a lot of instruments and as you can tell he is very funny. Thanks Michaela for selecting it.

One of the greatest British comedians was Ronnie Barker, who like Eric Morecambe had a superb straight man in Ronnie Corbett. This was voted the greatest TV sketch of the 1970s.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNTM9iM1eVw

Loving the new features of the site.

  43. I can add some video’s of Dutch comedians but I do not think you will have the same fun as me. What I really liked was Fawlty Towers, also because it are a limited number of episodes. I also liked the Irish comedian Dave Allen, see e.g. https://youtu.be/Xtn4S9KUsg0

The members map is fun, I use the street vieuw option to see in what kind of area the other members live.

    1. Did not notice the street view, an interesting feature. Although it only seems to pick a random middle of the town to show and not exactly where people live – suppose thats a good thing!

  44. There are many good German comedians, some of whom are only known regionally and it makes no sense to post a long list of their names here. But to stay international: I will always remember Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, Steve Martin, Mel Brooks or the unforgettable Peter Sellers in his role as Inspector Clouseau and his guest appearance in the Muppet Show:

  45. Great video today, totally gets all the prog styles and how serious they were when sung by the prog bands of the 70’s. You have to laugh at it some of it all these years later.

Amazed you don’t like Scooby Doo as it has a cute dog!

My favourite type of comedy is Fawlty Towers and lots of Monty Python with Billy Connelly as my favourite stand up comedian (his routines are very long so not adding a link here, you can find some on YouTube). Also I feel I have a similar sense of humour to Mona and Lisa so you make me laugh too – I always find myself laughing along with you.

For a taster here is the Fish Slapping Dance: https://youtu.be/T8XeDvKqI4E

The Members map is a fun feature which I like a lot!

  46. Mona and Lisa,

I have no doubt that your music could fill a whole movie soundtrack. “Any Other Day” is a perfect example. It’s so good that it could be nominated for an award.

Lucille Ball is one of my all-time favorites.

This a skit where she tries to do a commercial for a vitamin supplement

  47. When it comes to comedy, Monty Python are my favorite. There are many sketches that have me laughing, like Hell’s Grannies and The Funniest Joke in the World
One of my closest friends is a comedian in Los Angeles, and through him I met several well known comedians and they are one of the hardest working and less rewarded careers in entertainment. It’s really difficult to stand up in front of a crowd and have them laugh, even if it would seem moderately easy.
I love all the new features of the site, and how well it’s working.
    Thank you!

  48. Thanks Alan, that was effing hilarious. I feel like today’s invite could send us down comedic rabbit holes for hours. I could list hundreds of great comedy clips. I’ll leave you with one of my favorite classics from Victor Borge:

      1. ROFLMAO! Hadn’t seen that one before. I was laughing so hard people came from the office down the hall to see what was going on. Thanks for that.
