#2 – Taxman – Live at the Cavern Club (MLT Club Exclusive)

Hello again!

We hope you liked our acoustic cover of Pretty Flamingo we sent you the other day!

We started posting these acoustic “2 voices, 2 guitars” covers in the MLT Club in the autumn of 2019. They have quickly become a Club favourite, and so we created a dedicated “Duo Sessions” section where we regularly upload such performances.

We’ve done covers of the Beatles, the Kinks, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell and many more, and we often rearrange our originals for a stripped-down version, too …

Click here to watch “Pretty Flamingo” in case you missed the last email.

Another MLT Club series that is very popular is called “Live at the Cavern Club”. There we take you back to October 2016, to our very last residency show at the world-renowned Cavern Club in Liverpool … a stage that’s been our home for 2 full years. Here’s a sneak peek for you today of Taxman – a Beatles cover!

There are many more performances of that night at the MLT Club. In fact, song by song we’re uploading the entire show over the weeks ahead.

The MLT Club helps us make more music and videos like that and stay afloat in today’s world as independent artists. If you are interested in supporting our music you can find out more through this link:

We would love to welcome you in our cosy corner of the internet!

Thanks again for listening,

  1. I always like MLT covers, but this is beyond that. I like this version better than the original! Paul did the lead guitar on this George song and did his fuzzy guitar version, which always seemed wanting to me. I love Paul, but think George would have done it with a cleaner sound, such as MLT presents here.

  2. I’ve been a huge Beatles fan for the past 50 years and I’ve always disliked cover versions of their songs…. until I heard you two. You bring something fresh to the songs while keeping whatever it is that made them so special in the first place. Thank you.

  3. So beautifully evocative of the original. Just enough well chosen sounds to stir the same emotions I got from Rubber Soul when I first played my sister’s copy of the vinyl back in the 60’s. I look forward to your next offering with interest!

  4. Not only did Paul play the lead during the break (as mentioned below), but John helped out with the lyrics. I recall when first hearing, wondering who this Mr. Wilson & Mr. Heath were! In pre-internet America, how was a young teen to know?

We all love the musical talent of the ladies, but their appearance certainly adds to the overall appeal. Mona the Rocker most striking in her short, blond hair look.

  5. Yet another stunning vocal..you ladies are truly sensational!

Way too much talent for just two people ☆☆☆☆

  6. WOW. thank you for the video of Taxman. I love it. Great vocal by Mona and great guitar solo by Lisa. You always surprise me, Everything you do is always fascinating. Merci pour tout les excellents videos.

  7. Toll!

  8. Greetings from New Mexico, USA. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. You both have made this year better for your listeners. We are so lucky to have you within our universe.

  9. Tremendous cover, I think George would have been very pleased! The guitar solo doesn’t look at all easy but you really ripped into it with gusto – great stuff!

  10. One of my all-time Bee-atle favorites! And George Harrison’s announcement to John and Paul that he had arrived as a songwriter for sure! Thanks for sharing!

  11. This is a very difficult number to play and you deserve every possible admiration to perform it LIVE! Truly very well done. And compliments for the drummer and the bassman as well. Fabulous! And thanks very much for this post!

  12. As always, very good, very enjoyable. If you allow me, some suggestions for Beatles covers, if you not covered yet: ask me why, not a second time, and some songs of Jim Croce. Greetings!!

  13. Excellent. I think I’m right in saying that that the solo on the original Beatles recording was played by Paul rather than George.

    Euer alter Freund MICHAEL

    1. Thanks Richard, we’re glad you like the album! We’re currently working on our 3rd original studio album so that’s what’s in the pipeline next – we’ve been having such a fun time with it! It will probably be a while before we’ll do another live album.

  15. OMG, that is so good! Fantastic performance and vocal and lead. Always have loved that song by George. I think it has the Jimi Hendrix chord.
