ORANGE (Part 2) – Q&A

It’s Question & Answer Time … again!

After posting Part 1 of our ORANGE Q&A video a few weeks ago, we finally got around to filming part 2. We tried to cover as many questions as we could regarding our second original album and thank you all for submitting them!

So pour yourself a glass of orange juice and let’s dive more into some of the videos and songs from the album.

Hugs,
Mona & Lisa

  1. This has nothing to do with the videos, although I enjoyed the Q&A very much. My question concerns submitting my birthday. It seems like every time I log in, I’m being asked to submit it! Do I really need to do that?

    1. Hi Nima! The birthday submission form in the sidebar is always there but there is no need to submit it more than once 🙂
We’ll try and see if there’s a way to make it disappear after you fill it out once. You’ll receive your surprise in July!

  2. Wow, Mona looks great in that blouse! Mona and Lisa both always look great, but WoW.

    Thanks for answering my question.

  3. I was glad to hear that you would consider doing an acoustic arrangement of Still a Friend of Mine for the Duo Sessions. As a guitar player I have always enjoyed the challenge of converting a piano song into an acoustic guitar song. I know it doesn’t always work, but I think you would come up with an amazing arrangement. I love what you did with Good Day Sunshine, which is primarily a piano song. Especially the solo Lisa. Great work as always.

  4. I love hearing the backstory of the songs, and hearing more references that I’ve missed.
Also, I have to mention how much I enjoy the perfect lighting, fantastic camera and how you set up the scene simply, but perfectly. So many pro’s in Hollywood can learn so much from you. ????

  5. Mona and Lisa, thank you for taking our question! And so love this segment. The Orange album is a gem to me and I play it often and now that I am retired I will play it during my daily activities what ever I am doing. My favorite song is Count on Me, just love that song so much and trying to play it on guitar. It is so cool that we can chat with you both , just love to hear you both talk. Please keep it coming and god bless you both we all love you

  6. I finally remembered what the picture of Rudi in his tux reminded me off. He would not look out of place next to Eric on the cover of Creams 1969 Goodbye album!!!

  7. I knew there was a body in the basement after Sweet Lorraine! The next question is which of you was the evil twin who put her there! All kidding aside I’m always impressed with how thoughtfully and intelligently you answer all our questions! Still waters run deep! Can’t wait for the next video! Love you guys so much!

  8. Thank you so much for answering my questions. I have to admit on Waiting for the Waiter, I knew it was about present and the future change that we never see but John Sebastian being the one that left the change, I thought he was playing the part of a darker force. The entire production was great, and I must tell you that George Martin was a great producer but never had video production on his resume, Rudi is a man with extremely wide range of talents when it comes to Music, Producing and video Production. Way to go all of you for just an absolute #1 album and video. You all are making the change to all we would love to see in this chaotic world, All You Need Is Love!!!!!!!!!!! Stay Groovy!!!!!!!!!

  9. What a wonderful way to start the day seeing my two favorites so smart and so talented and so beautiful and so in command of their direction. Enjoyed all the answers and I’m constantly amazed at your diverse abilities with all the musical and technical challenges you complete with such seeming ease.

  10. Some great answers to lots of interesting questions and its always fun to hear the inspirations behind your songs. Thanks for including my questions which were well answered! Amazing coincidences happen all the time and I think Paul McCartney also comes across interesting phrases from time to time that he includes in his songs. I always remember he discussed the lyrics to English Tea (from the Chaos album) where he’d just remembered the old word peradventure when he was writing the album so he made sure he slotted it into one of the songs.

  11. Thank you for covering I’m it for love. I’ve been wondering for curiosity reasons❤️❤️❤️❤️ Also glad to here Mona say it is her favorite song as it is also mine! ????

  12. Ladies,
An exciting and very informative Q and A. (I am actually writing this at 25 or 6 to 4 in the morning. ) (what a great song title 😉 )
Alot of info I remembered from previous comments.
One can never have to much information though.
The waiter in Waiting For The Waiter, I hear, is NEVER going to give you change. ???? All the songs on Orange have such an interesting direction musically. Yet remain the same direction.
The line “I throw a stone into the darkness, to see what sound it makes,” as I recall, came from Lisa while sitting in her room during a blackout. Orange as a whole and individually is an artistic genius and really makes one think about different things in life.
Sweet Lorraine is my favorite song off the album, and I am so delighted that you did it for a Duo Session.
Thanks Ladies for such a wonderful Album and Q&A.
    Best to each of you
    Rick

  13. I find it quite revealing when I get to hear an artist(s) discuss what message/feeling they were intending to share when writing a song. Most of the time it comes as no surprise, but sometimes you don’t get it until it is revealed by them. I have to admit, I didn’t get the deeper meanings in WFTW until you discussed them here in the video. Very cool!

I already have several questions that I look forward to asking of you about the songs you have shared so far on the new album. It is going to be soooooo awesome!

  14. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to your answers to all the questions that were asked/replied to , I always learn stuff, mor knew nothing about, forgotten about … You always convey your answers so eloquently, and with such insight, depth, Thankyou for doing Part 2 about ” ORANGE album, you fave us a much better understanding / perspective on it, and as you both said, it can be interpreted by by our own notions, etc as well as how you meant for the songs to be intrepreted … Kudos, and would love to have you do another one of these in the future !!????????

  15. I loved the resonator in “waiting for the waiter.” Love that bluesy sound. And am glad you will use it again. I wonder if you would consider doing a song in the Gypsy jazz style you guys played during the Christmas livesteam? I too notice the natural maturation of your music from the 1st to 2nd original album. But I do hear a connection in the social commentary of “No worries” and “I bought myself a politician.” Brilliant song by the way. The Beatles also matured in the depth of their musical themes as they continued in their career without losing that magical output. I think you two are progressing down that same stream. Really do. Say “hey” to your folks. Stay groovy and peace be.

    1. Of all the different genres we’re trying to explore with this upcoming album, I wouldn’t say Gypsy Jazz is one of them but I’d love to use elements of that in a song one day! … maybe on the album after the next 🙂

Thanks for the comment, Michaela and Dad say “hi” back!

  16. TGIF!
I feel like Orange is your Dark Side Of The Moon. Both albums explore the human experience and many of life’s common themes. Both albums are best when heard from beginning to end. Both sound fantastic through headphones, err, I mean earbuds. Both create insane earwigs, too. One appeared this morning. “I think I get it, but I haven’t got a clue.” has been running through my mind all day.

Thanks or sharing all of these Orange details. You should save the tux for the MLT museum.

I love Lisa’s reaction to the “Waiting For The Waiter” question. Great songs can have a different meaning and connection to each listener, but it’s still interesting to hear the songwriters’ intended meaning. I can see where it could drive you nuts when no one gets it. Now I have to go give Orange a very serious listen.

I have a feeling tomorrow’s earwig will probably be playing a slide guitar.

Wow “Good Day Sunshine” is at 99,660 on YouTube

    Have a great weekend!

    JP

Does that mean “Club 27” is your “Great Gig In The Sky”?

  17. It is always so good to hear from you and get some insight into what you were thinking when you made the album. Thank you so much!

  18. Hi Mona and Lisa, that was so much fun, and even more insight into your amazing album. ???? ???? ???? Thanks for answering my questions!

Your approach to music always reminds me of the Beatles, the dynamic between John, Paul, and George Martin in the studio, and the artistry of Orange.

Body in the basement! Wow, Sweet Lorraine is based on a true story. The darker side of MLT is revealed, LOL. Love it! ???? ???? One of my top favourite songs on the album.

So “In It For Love” was written by Mona! And I recall “Close To You” by Lisa. Those two songs always felt like sister songs to me, with the wonderful guitar work and expressive singing, and now it makes sense! Love them both. ???? ❤

I always wondered who the vocals were “In The Future” track and now I finally got it. John Lennon, Elvis, John F Kennedy…brilliant. Really captures the future.

In Waiting for The Waiter, the part where it is John Sebastien (an artist) bringing the “change”, I never noticed the significance until now. Wow, that is absolutely brilliant.

Thanks so much for this, really enjoyed it, time just flies when it’s so fun and enjoyable. I think the next Q and A on your cover albums and project sounds like a great idea.

    Hugs, back at you! ????

  19. The phrase “pearls before swine” was used in the Bible (Matthew 7:6) so I’d say, yes, it’s pretty old.

  20. Thank you very much Mona and Lisa. The video was both informative and enjoyable. It is always great to hear about your inspirations. Yes, “Orange” dealt with deeper themes than “When We’re Together” while keeping with the distinct, outstanding MonaLisa Twins musicianship. The themes on the songs that you have released to us in regards to the upcoming album are developing even further.

It is logical, for each album was created at different points in your lives…the growth of highly talented adolescents to highly talented ladies.

It is always wonderful to listen to you talk about the role that both Papa Rudi and Michaela have played in the creative process. You are fortunate to have them and the love that is shown always is evident.

Next week is “Spring Week” at the High School where I teach. Tuesday is “Twins Day” and I plan on celebrating by wearing my MonaLisa Twins shirt to help spread the word of your music.

Thank you again for sharing your gift!

    1. Thanks for the kind comment!
And please say ‘hi’ from us to your students on ‘Twins Day’, we love that you’re planning on wearing our shirt 🙂

      1. Lisa, you are most welcome!

I printed lyric copies of “That’s Life” and “Dreams” and they are posted in my classroom. Have noticed several students stopping and reading them before class.

Hopefully, I can get our high school baseball team to include a little MLT in their pregame music playlist!

  21. WOO HOO! This promises to be a treat, and I’ll watch it later tonight! Must’ve been a real marathon getting this ready, I’ll bet! Thanks, Ladies! ????????‍????????‍????????
