Hiking In The Alps – Photos

We have had the absolute fortune to see a lot of different parts of the world, some of which are considered the most stunning places this planet has to offer: The Grand Canyon in the USA, the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, the Sahara Desert in Egypt, …

We’ve spent many hours on airplanes to see these things, and we are forever grateful for these memories and opportunities. Yet, another one of the most impressive landscapes we’ve ever seen is only a few car hours away from the village we used to live in, and where tourists from around the world would come to visit: The Alps.

For many winters we have been to the Salzburg-ish parts of the Alps for skiing, but this photo folder will show you the impressions that the “Lienz Dolomites” left on us, when we took a summery trip with our grandparents in 2011.

Lienz is a picturesque and busy town in Eastern Tyrol and the ideal base from where to explore all these beautiful valleys, majestic mountain peaks and glaciers (in our case the eastern tail of the Great Venetian ~ 2500 m). We also crossed the border to Southern Tyrol which is technically part of Italy.

We even did a little bit of busking in Lienz, and on another day visited an art exhibition of Austrian caricaturist, graphic artist and illustrator, Paul Flora. He was from Tyrol but was widely known in Europe and Britain for his black ink line drawings.

So a little bit of culture was part of the mix, but mainly we were hiking up and down mountains soaking in the beauty of the world and lots of sunlight! Most of the photos here were taken by our favourite photographer grandpa Franz 😉

  1. Beautiful and stunning scenery. (the landscape too, ha-ha). I remember the Winter Olympics being held in Innsbruck in the 60s, and, I think, the 70s, too. It must have been exciting to be on the precipitous walkway.

  2. Looks like a fun trip. The mountains, flowers, and the church were just beautiful. But, there is no way that I would do what you two did near the waterfall.

  3. What do I think of the pictures? I am ready to go there right now! Such breathtaking scenery! And I am convinced it is impossible for either of you to look anything but beautiful in a photo, so that helps too. I don’t know how you can leave such beautiful country, I have always wanted to visit the Alps and I plan to do so soon. Thank you for sharing.

  4. What absolutely stunning scenery and such an awesome hike you have undertaken. There would not be too many places in the world that could compare. You could not help but feel completely relaxed and at peace with the world after an experience like that.

We do not have such stunning mountain scenery in my country, and for me, the only comparison I can imagine is my experience snorkelling in the underwater beauty of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. You are so fortunate to have had both these experiences. ?❤️

  5. Wow! What a magnificent selection of Alps photography as I have ever seen. Just beautiful camera work from everyone involved. Beautiful vistas, mountains, animals, and hamlets. Along with all that scenery two beautiful girls to add enchantment to it all. Wonderful!

  6. Wow, these Alps pictures are incredible. I had the opportunity to ski the Arlberg years ago; Lech, St. Christoph, Stuben, etc. and the Zugspitz glacier. But it was all in winter time so I didn’t have the opportunity to enjoy this wonderful scenery that you shared. Thanks so much for sharing this with all of us.

  7. Ladies, thanks for sharing these photos. Austria is a very nice country. Look like there is a lot of photography talent in the family.

  8. OMG Ladies this is Breathtaking.
The Hills Are Alive With The Sound Music from the Mona Lisa Twins.
I looked thru these stunning Photos 5 times to make sure I didn’t miss any. ???
    ?❤

  9. In many of your grandfather’s pictures one can feel the love for nature in general, for mountains in particular but especially to his granddaughters. I’m sure he’s a lucky aged man.

  10. Thank you very much, Mona & Lisa for sharing these gorgeous photos with us. As everyone else already commented they are absolutely stunning; so crystal clear, vibrant & captivating. Love that combination of the rolling hills, incredible rock formations, majestic mountains and that picturesque Alps town nestled in the middle of all that incredible beauty. If these photos don’t entice people to visit the area, nothing else could.

  11. Wow, these are breathtaking.
Are you guys secret agents for the tourism bureau? Your photo albums make me want to take a long vacation. Plus it seems like the perfect lighting is always around you. Although views like these are fabulous in any light.

The glacier cave looked awesome. Was there an echo?
Are there any stories about the “rock foot”? That’s pretty kool. I guess you could say you saw a big foot in the Alps. (another sad dadjoke)

Thanks for sharing these groovy adventures

    1. I would have been tempted to try yodeling into the cave to see what kind of cool echo effect you could get. But there could be a risk of causing a cave in. 🙂

  12. Wow ladies! I’m breathless after seeing all these beautiful magnificent pictures. It felt like a mini virtual vacation, and much, much needed escape immersing myself in these photos during these isolated times. As I progressed through the slide show I kept getting more and more impressed. From the enchanting mountain village and hundreds of years old elegant buildings and castles to the breathtaking mountain sides and right up to that incredible glacier and the glacier cave. I’ve never seen anything like it. We have glaciers in North America, but to be able to go right up to it and even underneath the glacier. Wow! Loved the busking photo and the many beautiful photos of the both of you hiking through what looks and feels like an enchanted fairy tail land! So much magnificent beauty there. I so enjoyed that, thank you so much!!! Also enjoyed the wonderful write up too!

  13. Exquisite, rustic, quaint, stunning, spectacular, breathtaking, etc., and then some all come to mind with the vibe essences captured perfectly in this collection of photos…wow, so many of the photos would make for the 1000+ jigsaw puzzles that my late Dad would enjoy doing over winter months, once completed, use special glue, then frame them…. Absolutely love these fab photos, Kudos to Grandpa Franz, Team MLT forvtaking and sharing these definite Kodak Keepers ???

  14. I can’t thank you enough for sharing these marvelous photos of this trip with your grandparents. Your grandpa Franz is an amazing photographer and so many of these photos are simply stunning. Loving mountains as much as I do so, this photo gallery really took my breath away. You are so fortunate to have grown up with so many awesome experiences with your incredible family. They have made you both into the exceptional individuals you are today and a true gift to the world in so many ways. Love you so much, thanks again for sharing.
