Any Questions About Us and the Music Industry? – Q&A Prompt

Any questions about us and the music industry?

You may have noticed that the way we go about making ourselves a name as musicians and songwriters is a little … unconventional 😉 In order to get to where we are today we have never relied on any of the mainstream media outlets, nor are we signed with any major labels or have a manager, PR company or connections to any “big players”.

Yet we’re able grow our audience, make a living from our music, sell more CDs than many “signed” artists, create our own merchandise, play with great musicians, have a strong connection to our audience. On top of that we can stay completely independent and in control of where we want our music and this whole “business” to go next. And we’re still pretty much only 4 people doing 90% of the work 🙂

How and why have we chosen to go about it that way? What are the benefits and drawbacks, what’s our philosophy on success and fame and what is it like being independent artists in the year 2021?

Ask us your questions about “MLT’s place in the music industry” and we’ll try to answer as many of them as we can in our next Q&A video.

We’re looking forward to replying to them ♥

  1. I am with you Gary, I have never been a part of a club until The Mona Lisa Twins Club. I am so grateful to be a part of this wonderful club and to meet you all and chat about this wonderful Music Mona and Lisa put out for us to enjoy. To me? To have these talented ladies share the life in photos and music is awesome to me. And Pa Pa and Michele are special to us as well in how they support Mona and Lisa it is very powerful to witness. As I have always said in the past, I feel that they are taking us on a ride and letting us know that yes we have this and come along for the journey and staying groovy is the best way to handle the world as it is today. Also breathing new life into music that we all love and know. I just love the talent that Mona and Lisa have and the down to earth life they lead. And for them to have time for all of us again is so awesome. I can not live a day without listening to their music.

  2. I have purchased tons of albums in my lifetime (I turn 69 this year) many of which I still have, and have followed many different bands. But I have never felt as connected to a musical group as I do to the two of you. Yours is the first club I have ever joined ( am I a late-bloomer or what!) And I am thankful that I found your music. Your covers of classic songs are awesome, and your original compositions are as good as any album in my collection. This may be just my humble opinion, but you not only have a place in the music industry, you are its future.

    1. Hi Gary, You are so speaking for me, too. I’m just shy of 63, and like you I’ve bought albums by, shall we say, a ‘Varied’ collection of bands and artists over the years; Some ‘cool’ some frankly embarasing now! But no-one has ever set my pulses racing like Mona & Lisa – whatever mood I’m in, whether I’m feeling mellow, or in need of something more rock & roll, these 2 have something to fit the bill exactly. And, let’s be honest, they are both gorgeous, to boot! I’ll certainly be still a big fan ‘When I’m 64’, and long afterwards.

      1. Hi Andrew. I totally agree. My record collection is probably a lot like yours. Some great albums and some like ” why did I buy that!?! ” But, yep, Mona Lisa are the best! Glad that you’re staying groovy!

  3. I’m really starting to get into these Q and A sessions. The photo you have for this is a riot. Lisa’s expressions just crack me up, Mona plays the part of the straight man so to speak. I love it !! This is the best time, and the best club that I have enjoyed for a very long time. I think that’s what makes you Ladies special. You enjoy interaction with your fans, and THAT is Groovy !! As always, Peace, Love and Happiness

  4. what a fascinating subject! This could have a part 2 or 3! That would be fantastic!
I know their are so many directions to go in with these questions?
My apologies for my rather lengthy questions. I’m just real curious, and rather fascinated.
I’m so glad this subject has come up!
    Thanks so much Team MLT!
All the best to each of you!
    Rick Ross

  5. I’m just so glad to be a part of your musical journey Mona and Lisa! ???? Your dedication to your art, and the quality with which you all create your music, videos, everything you do, and this wonderful MLT Club is endlessly inspiring and moving and extremely rare these days. It’s always so fascinating reading/hearing you both talk about your craft and how you navigate your journey independently on your own terms, and seeing you fulfill it. Your passion, courage, and love for your music comes through in every single video, Duo Session, live performance, and album you create. Looking forward to the new Q & A video! ????

  6. The music industry has changed a whole lot since the advent of “Napster” years ago, a lot of people download music illegally and it has basically killed the record business. So I think what you folks are doing is the right thing. Doing it yourselves. YOU control how your music gets out there to people. YOU control the recording process. YOU control when you gig. I like the MLT way!

But man what a change from back in the day. We used to love going to the record stores (in the early 70’s!) on the day of new releases! Being the first to get the newest albums! It was fun! Exciting! I miss those days. album covers and the artwork. Lyrics on the inner sleeve.

I am SO GLAD you girls are still putting out CDs. Please don’t stop!

  7. LOVE the Q&As, regardless of what subject you choose, ladies! This one promises to be quite interesting. Always a pleasure and a privilege when you invite us into some of these more personal aspects of your business lives.
