Demo Video of “Questionable” – Behind The Scenes

You gotta start somewhere …

So we wanted to shoot a music video for “Questionable”, and before filming we knew that we had to plan the different shots thoroughly.

Since we were planning to use a greenscreen and only a single camera angle for both Lisa and the “candidates”, we had to carefully figure out the timing of the cuts in order to sell the illusion that both parties were sitting at the same table. The first step to getting that down was to shoot a quick demo video that we could use as reference for a more detailed storyboard and for the candidates as a guide to what’d be needed of them.

We very quickly filmed this demo video in our kitchen and used some free stock footage and a performance video by the fabulous Supremes as placeholders. We still sang different lyrics in parts and the timing of the scenes wasn’t always great but it helped us enormously in planning the shoot 🙂

We’ve already shared the demo video for I Bought Myself A Politician and Still A Friend Of Mine with you, so we thought why not post the demo-video for “Questionable” here in the Club as well? You might find it entertaining and, if you’re anything like Michaela, might even like it as much as the finished “proper” video ????.

Enjoy …
Mona & Lisa

  1. M & L, I love your sense of humor! You brighten everyone’s day who’s lucky enough to have joined your club! — Bud J.

  2. I know no one will see this since I’m late to the show, but I love all of the characters that Mona plays. She is great in all of the “Many faces of Mona” and this video she was fabulous! 👍 Lisa made it look easy to do her part and sync up with the song too!👍 Both girls are stars in my book!⭐⭐🎤🎸

  3. This video is so much fun! It’s always fascinating to see how you go over every detail when planning anything. It also goes to show how much integrity you have with your work, you’re “all in” and no BS, hard work and smart!
    Awesome!

  4. Thanks so much for sharing this video, I really enjoyed seeing Mona exploring her multiple personalities, again. Ha Ha Ha. Seriously, I do enjoy seeing these videos and the multi talented roles you all play in bringing them to life.

  5. I truly loved the “proper video” but I am inclined to agree with Michaela as to what a simply divine and fun video the behind the scenes demo video was! In honor of Mona’s outstanding acting, “The Academy Nominates Mona Wagner for Best Supporting Actress in a “Questionable” Roll.”

As always, “Thanks for the Memories!”

  6. Thanks for these enjoyable glimpses into your creative process! I will be looking forward to “The Making of Questionable” video whenever it hits the MLT club.

  7. That’s just what I love..a girl with a mustache…hello baby…LOL????….Mona you are a riot with all the different characters you portray in these videos ….is there a 30-minute sitcom coming along in the future …here in the States back in the 70s we had All In The Family that kept us in stitches….it’s time for more !

  8. You two are hilarious. You both say so much with just a simple glance. Timing those glances to the music really adds to it. Your production team is very good with that.

It’s so kool how you can be so serious with ballads, and then turn around and let your humorous side take over. We love both sides now.

I keep wondering if Mona improvised at all, or was she given direction on how to play the characters. We can definitely see where the actors might have been influenced by Mona’s portrayal of the candidates.

Thanks for sharing this. Your processes are very interesting.

  9. A fun video and another look into how you approach the complex process of creating a video (complex for me anyway).

From the hand drawn UK map on the back of one of the questionnaires, I assume another outing of some kind is in the works(?).

  10. Great demo video and I love seeing Mona playing all the boys parts herself. She really gets into the many roles by dressing up and doing all the mannerisms – and such a contrast to seeing her looking so beautiful in the final video! It’s always the best idea to plan these things and make demos to avoid anything unexpected going wrong when under time or cost pressures later.

  11. WOW, you all are so good in your planning down to every detail. Mona, you made me laugh with all the different character’s you played, and it would seem you get all the wardrobe changes. Great Demo and bringing in the Supremes was very smart. I don’t know of anyone that puts a video with each song. That’s brilliant!! You make my day each and every day. You all are definitely Pro’s. Thank you for all you do!!!!!

  12. Inspired. As watchable as the finished product. I’m still amazed that such a small team can produce such polished videos, even the demos are brilliant. Is there anything you can’t turn your hand to. Only one thing to say. More. Gimme more.

  13. The whole team is just so creative!! I think Michaela is right in that this video was as much fun to watch as the polished version, but as you know, that is a very bias opinion since I love to see Mona too. BTW, Mona, nice mustache!

  14. After watching the finished video it was interesting to see you Mona playing all the parts the guys played later. Very entertaining and was a welcome addition to my workday. I look forward to Fridays because I know I’m going to receive an MLT club wire with a surprise for the week. Can’t wait to hear the original you just finished.

  15. I like this version too although I like Mona better as a female! LOL! She’s such a good sport though! My favorite “candidate” is the heavy set fellow with the white in his mustache and backward cap, his facial expressions are priceless! He played it up great! Sorry, I forget his name right now.

  16. Fantastic job. So very much enjoyable and really made my day.
I pretty much agree with most of the comments that were already made.
I love everything you all do.
Have a great weekend and do something fun.
    Love and Peace,
    Bobby S.

  17. Wow that was so fun to watch, and I think I will second Michaela and say I enjoyed this as much as the video too! Seeing all the different faces of Mona, some with a moustache, was the grooviest! In one character with the green outfit and touque you looked like a Canadian in the Bob and Doug Mckenzie Great White North fame Mona, loved all the characters.

I have to say when I first saw the Questionable video, I thought the interview scene was actually done in a busy bar or bistro somewhere, until later I saw a photo of the set scene in the hall, and I realized it was a green screen backdrop you did this. Your video “illusion” technique is very impressive! I’ve learned so much over the years with your behind the scenes videos and photos of the trick of the trade in how you deliver your magic on screen.

Your singing trio part is so awesome, and I see now the influence of the Supremes in that scene. That’s so cool!

Thanks so much for posting this demo video, enjoyed seeing it very much! Hope you both have a fabulous weekend adventure in nature! All the grooviest best.

    1. Touque! Jung, when we went to the first Toronto Blue Jays Touque Day back in ’77 we all thought we were receiving sun visors. Imagine our surprise when we received stocking caps. It was a great gift for the upcoming winter and our vocabulary was enhanced!

“The different faces of Mona” certainly is becoming a theme to the new album, isn’t it? It would be an cool, hidden meaning title for the new record.

      1. Christopher, I didn’t know Touque is a Canadian thing, HAHA!

A toque is just Canadian slang for a beanie, usually with a pom-pom on top. If you’re heading to Canada, you’ll want to make sure you pack a toque.

Touque Day sounded like a lot of fun. We always wore them up here when it snowed or got cold. Here are 10 Canadian Slangs you want to know if you come to Canada.

Agree with you, Mona’s many expressions are superb here, just like in I Bought Myself A Politician. Mona and Lisa are awesome actresses!

  18. Mona absolutely stole this! You are a natural actress that can do anything. I enjoyed this demo video as much as the actual. Well-done by all! Many thanks…so much fun!

Have to add, these demo videos make us, as MLT Club members, feel like that we are right there, witnessing the process. I am certain that the other club members feel the same. Thank you for including us!

  19. That was such a fun video, as good or better than the original, Mona was fantastic in all the parts, and Lisa looked stunning, by the way that sure looked like an engagement ring on Lisa’s middle finger. Hmmm!

    Love to al!

  20. Wow! Another one for the times! You ladies are fabulous. The Humor, the scenes with Mona is so cool and funny and oh my Mona you did a great job!! Rudi and Micaela kuto’s to you both as well. The quality is perfect in everyway. This song is a part of the new album, and I can’t wait! All the songs you put out so far to me will be amazing on this new album and like I always say well worth the wait. Maddie loves these video’s and will show her when I Get home from work today. Please keep it coming and hope all is well in Mona and Lisa Land, god bless

Bill And Maddie Isenberg Huge Fans from Pittsburgh PA USA !

    1. Bill, the Pirates playing on MLB-TV this evening. Hope you can catch it while listening to some MLT in the background, of course!

      1. Thanks for the heads up Christopher! Although the Pirates are not doing well here in Pittsburgh we love baseball and love the Pirates no matter what!! Oh you hit it out of the park with Mona and Lisa music in the background! I played their music last weekend while I Was in Houston for my son’s Bachler party and I think we pulled in a couple more fans!!! They all love I bought myself a politician!

  21. So much fun watching these behind the scenes videos! Mona did a great job acting out her parts. I laughed out loud a couple of times! Thank you for making Fridays great!

  22. Here’s a merch idea whose time may have almost come: a deck of MLT playing cards, each featuring a picture of Mona dressed as a different character, with perhaps a few Lisas thrown in there as well to round out the set.

After all, it only makes sense. Mona and Lisa are diamonds in the rough who possess talent in spades, and they regularly warm our hearts here in the best of all clubs. (Sorry, just playing the hand I was dealt. I’ll fold now.)

  23. FAR OUT! Well, then, Michaela and I AGREE! This video is just as entertaining as the finished product!
I had a frown on my face this morning because my bank statement shows a dicrepancy of $14, but that frown washed away almost immediately I started watching your demo! Keep up the groovy work, y’all!

  24. Being someone that wants to know what makes something tick, this BTS was a real fun video. Mona was an excellent stand-in for the candidates but so much prettier, even when wearing the pencil-thin mustache. From the song its self through the making of the video and then the final product. It was a magnificent production. Thanks to everyone evolved.

  25. An absolute blast, very funny video and, of course, excellent singing and harmonies. Thanks again ladies for bringing a smile to my face.

  26. Yuppers, I’m in cahoots with Michaela, this was just as hilarious, good backup plan one …. had me laughing, that’s a fab way to start my Friday off this morning, Thankyou … I just love how you can improvise in detail, even in “demo -videos” for a song/video concept you have in mind …creative juices always flowing steady…. Awesone efforts by all, and promotional Thankyou goes out to Wagner’s Kitchen for all supplies, etc used, and for tge various stire considerations used for wardrobe and Wagners clothes closets …. Put a smile on my face got my bladder going to start my day off ????????????

  27. I agree with Michaela, I like it as much as the finished video.
Mona, does a great job of playing all the different characters !
Very entertaining, Thank you for sharing !

  28. Loved it! Mona was so funny. And I loved the way y’all copied the Supremes! Always loved their music and performances. I love your music and performances, too!! What a great video to enjoy. Thank you for sharing it.

  29. Hi Ladies,

I’ve already watched the Demo 10 times! It’s so Entertaining!! I concur with Michaela. Every bit as entertaining if not a bit more. Mona loved the bread!!!????
Loved seeing how it all came together. Ms. Mona playing the parts of the “Candidates” was great!
Spike and I Love one of Mona’s Candidates in Particular! ????????
Truly an ingenious way to get a foundation for the actual Shoot!
Thanks so much for sharing this with us!
I would love to see more of these.
Thank you so much for all you do, and the very best to each of you.
    Rick and Spike
PS I really like the 3 New Song Titles!! I think you should keep them!

  30. Say i’ve been thinking.
I just wonder if that scuzzy guy in the ratty clothes is getting a better deal than it seems.
If so – he’s a lucky man. I’m sure he knows it.

It’s nice to see Mona as different characters.
You two always spice up my morning coffee.
    Thanks !

  31. Love these Behind the Scenes videos!! You ladies deliver on every level! The song is Fantastic, the video, another MLT classic.
Mona.love your expressions and gestures,I always knew there was much more to your acting chops then just playing a bus.And Lisa, looking Stunning as well(as usual). With every new song, and video,I get more excited for the new album to become available to us all. Can’t wait to see what’s coming next.

    Love & Hugs to All!????????
    Tom

  32. I love both videos but as cool as the Supremes are I’d choose seeing Mona every time. I’m amazed how many different roles Mona can assume – as evidenced by the “Politician” video as well. Mona is simply too beautiful to be cast as the prospective men. Lisa plays her role magnificently and regally – I would have had both of my favorite ladies in separate scenes asking the questions but I understand Lisa sang the lead alone which make for a tighter song and video.
Can’t wait for Fridays! Thanks MLT family!

  33. I tend to agree with Ms. Michaela, this is very funny. You two have a natural flair for comedy. I especially like Mona’s reaction to “how often to you change your underwear?” And both of you eating the potatoes in lieu of peanuts. Can’t wait for the album. LuvYa Dbya. Stay groovy and Peace be to you.

  34. Now that was funny! I always wondered what went on between Mona and Lisa’s ears. Would you mind a question or two? OK —

Have you considered painting your Vox amps Orange?

    a. Yes.
    b. No.
    c. I don’t know.
    d. I don’t care.
    e. That’s not the sound we’re going for.

    Next Question.

Do you listen to the radio?

    a. No, never.
    b. Yes, but only for the news.
    c. Yes, but only in the car.
    d. Yes, all the time.
    e. Orange you going to ask me another question?

  35. I like the dynamics of Mona in the video, I prefer that the Supremes not be in. Not that the Supremes are not fabulous, they very much are. As well the face cream I like better with Mona & Lisa. This video has much more light hearted presentation. As to where the video was made, I did not notice that much because Mona & Lisa capture the attention⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

  36. That was really fun to watch, especially Mona’s different roles she played. Great song and video. Looking forward to your next album. ❤️????❤️ ✌️❤️????????????

  37. Too bad you didn’t keep the speed dating bell but it would have been a silent one in the video so that wouldn’t have worked. The Questionable video is fun and fresh every time I watch and Michaela is right that the demo is as fun as the finished product. Mona is adorable in all her roles. The new original album isn’t far away and the light at the end of the tunnel looks quite bright indeed. Thanks for adding more great music to the universe in these difficult times. Pray for Ukraine and for Putin to have a change of heart.

  38. I especially liked how you showed the finished product with the demo video. It was fun to watch. Wonderful as always!! Happy Friday!
