Performing In Schools – Photos

During our first couple of years in the UK we had spent quite a lot of mornings back at school. Not to fresh up our algebra but to perform and talk about what we do to the students!

Just before recess, often the school would gather in their assembly hall, and for half an hour or so we’d play them some songs, talk about our musical journey, answer questions about what we do and where we came from. It’s not something the kids came in contact with too often, so it was great seeing their faces light up when they realised this wasn’t going to be another teacher’s lecture on how they need to keep their shoes clean or lunch boxed packed away. Many of them had never experienced live music before and you could tell they were fascinated by what you can create with just two guitars and vocals.

Sometimes we would break down songs for them and show them how we layer and arrange certain parts. All done to expose the children to some new experiences and hopefully try to inspire them to pick up an instrument, stay curious or broaden their musical horizon.

  1. That is way cool!! You are awesome! What a rewarding experience for the students and scouts. Very impressive and so important. I love that you do what you are doing. It all comes from a central place within your being. The same place your original work comes from. You never cease to amaze me. What a bonus you are to the world. Much love and best wishes from a humble soul in the United States. ❤????

  2. Well done Mona and Lisa. I’m sure the experience would have been a positive one for both you and the students. It pays to recruit them young and I’ve no doubt the students would have become instant fans!

  3. Wow that is so wonderful what you both did! What better way to inspire kids to music than expose them to a little of your music and how you do it.

  4. Love these photos and kudos to visiting those schools and opening the inspiring and inquisitive and music minds of those students and I wholeheartedly agree with you on what you said in regards to today’s music exposure and its offerings…. I think it’s vital that there are music classes-programs included in the school’s curriculum and all kids regardless of background/income, etc should all have equal opportunities to participate and learn to appreciate and have interest in music, whatever their interest would be in that area, singing, instruments, songwriting, reading music, etc.
I believe most schools here in my city have had music grants and instruments gifted to schools as an initiative to promote creativity in what music can offer….. Again, Thankyou for sharing the pix here and your journey of doing these school appearances to show/teach what music has done for you and what it can do for them!!
