She’s Leaving Home – Duo Session

Friday morning at five o’clock …

… is the exact moment for which we have scheduled this post to go online! Good morning to all MLT Clubbers! 😉

A while ago we shared with you the photos of the shoot for the upcoming Beatles fan documentary “Here, There and Everywhere“.

The release of the film got pushed back a little bit but we will let you know as soon as we the final release date is set! In the meantime, we got permission to share with you the song we filmed for it – our acoustic live rendition of “She’s Leaving Home”, filmed by producer Simon Weitzman who visited us at the studio.

As always, please keep this little video within the virtual walls of the MLT Club so that it stays a surprise for everyone who is going to watch the movie later on in the year. 🙂

Have a terrific day and stay groovy,
Mona & Lisa

  1. Way back when (in 1967) friends and I would listen to Sgt. Peppers over and over. We listened to it so much that we worked out a pantomime to the song. It took a lot of practice to get it right. I think we had too much time on our hands. Mike.

  2. When Mona sings “Bye Bye” it’s just…I can’t explain it…perhaps the feeling of a parent when a child leaves?

Ladies, your rendition of She’s Leaving Home is both wonderful and heartbreaking at the same time. Lisa’s ukulele playing really made this special.

    Thank you.

  3. I do Love adding different instruments to achieve the sound your looking for. That was
a really good rendition. I have never tried the ukulele except went I was 4 and my mom
thought I was so cute singing You Ain’t Nothing but a Hound dog by Elvis, I really didn’t know how to play, but with her persistence Instruments kept coming my way. Thanks Mom.

  4. This was one of the first gems I found when I joined the club. It is one of my favorite treasures here. I love the way they match the tone of the song so well by exchanging the vocals. It is always fun to hear their individual voices.

These sessions look like they just sat down and said let’s play that one we were working on the other day, and Bam, another MLT masterpiece.

  5. Wow!! That was so complex………the strings and vocals looked so hard to do on that one and you pulled it off beautifully.

  6. That is a great rendition of one of The Beatles best songs! Your voices blend so beautifully together and you are both such gifted instrumentalists. Being able to watch you play and sing as opposed to just listening to your songs is such a treat. You should consider putting out a dvd with you songs on it. I bet all of us MLT club members would buy it. Take care and keep doing what you’re doing. We all love it.

  7. Another masterpiece that you created out of thin air. What an absolutely moving performance this is. Mona, your incredibly beautiful guitar playing. Lisa your achingly gorgeous & sensitive vocals. The exquisite harmonizing. The seamless, perfect way you play off each other. What a privilege it is to see & hear this. The original always moved me as well but to me this is now the definitive performance. Of course I have always been fascinated by the 60’s counterculture. With out a doubt, it made the world a much better place. The creativity, the rejection of conservative, old often stifling, hateful & harmful ways. The celebration of freedom, of ideas and of the power of the individual. But I’m sympathetic to the older generations who couldn’t understand what their kids were doing. These are people who lived through the depression, who suffered through the horrors of WW2, who saw unbelievable cruelty, barbarism & destruction. Who wanted a better life for their kids than what they had & they were willing to sacrifice their own needs & happiness to achieve it. This song really captures their hurt & sense of betrayal well.

  8. Listening to you I started singing this nice song together with you, Mona and Lisa!
I like your voices and your guitar playing.
    Stay groovy,
    Bernd

  9. Not to sound like i am taking away any of lisa’s talent.but mona and her thumb over decending bass line guitar work on this is just Fantastic we all know the amazing vocals that blend but i just wanted to mention what great work i hear from mona.i have to finger chords a little different as my thumb is only 2 inches long to do Decending bass line’s with thumb would be murder for me.would love to hear club 27 or that’s life in this set up.cheers keep grooving and moving ladies

  10. it’s wonderful to hear “She’s leaving home” (live acoustic music)!
Nothing else is needed for this performance, nor musical or technical instruments.
    Sound is complete and perfect!
    Thank you Mona Lisa

  11. Another beautiful one, M + L !!! (Hey, in the Duo Sessions, have you done another take of “A World Without Love”? Your cover of that song was so amazing; I’d love to hear what you’d do with it in this setting.)

  12. THAT was just incredible. Your vocal texture is just perfect for this song and your arrangement allows this really beautiful melody to come through better than the original because you have focused simply on the basics. Kudos to you both…

  13. Perfect Harmonies from that MLT magic that we’ve all come to love and now expect. Ladies you never fail to deliver.
She’s Leaving Home demands tight harmonies, and with your cover it has them.
People notice and in cases such as this your cover far surpasses the original.
Sure there were harmonies, but not the blended, can’t tell which is which, as the MonaLisa Twins deliver time and time again.
I do hope this cover gets to be released to the public one day. It’s brilliant and so are you. Mesmerizes all the senses.
    Thanks so much Ladies.

  14. Tomas, you nailed it. They aren’t your ordinary, run of the mill superstars, they are brilliant. And duos like this just reaffirm their genius.
I (we that have) lived to see the brilliance of The Beatles and now the MonaLisa-Twins, are truly fortunate.

  15. ???Good..very very good as always..this beautiful song has a perfect melodic line for Cello and flute ..so girls.. want to try

    1. Thank you big time, Michael. And yes, that’s a random Darth Vader neon head in the background indeed! What’s even stranger is that it’s sitting there in our studio despite us never even having seen Star Wars ;-D The neon sign was a gift and we just thought it looked … cool 🙂

  16. Wow! Just beautifully sublime ladies. Can’t wait for the release of “Here, There and Everywhere”. No one does it better (When we’re together)! And nice informative posts Tomás and Michael. The Twins just continue to shine out in a rather gloomy pop music world!

  17. Wow, Frikkin GoosebumpyGroovyGreatGood. Thank you for the words Jacki! What amazes me and leaves me scratching my head is the brilliance of the arrangements and how well they make it all work together. They are not easy parts and very different from each other, yet it comes off as if they are just there strumming in the wind. All the while performing angelic harmonies. Don’t try this at home folks.
Stephen, from my personal experience, when some outsider comes in to do their project, you usually let them take over as this is a part of a bigger whole and the continuity of sound and feel might be something the director/producer is going for. You can offer help, but usually you defer even if you are in your own element and think you can do better. Of course, I don’t know anything more as to what went on on this recording than what has been posted here. Just my impressions. That being said, it’s clear that Rudolf, whether it be mic’ing, eq’ing or mixing, has us accustomed to the very-best-top-notch sound you can get.

    1. Yes Tomas, I am sure you are correct about this. And I’m certain how thrilled Mona and Lisa must have been to be asked to be a part of this too. Its just that this amazing arrangement and performance of a very complicated piece deserved only the best possible recording so to be appreciated fully. That being said, I am really looking forward to the release of “Here, There, and Everywhere”!

    2. Nice insight Tomas. This reminds me of a huge concert Elton John put on I think in Wembley in the 70’s. The Beach Boys was the back up band for Elton John, but after the Beach Boys did their set and knocked it out of the park, well Elton John’s show just paled in comparison. They wouldn’t want MLT version eclipsing the Beatles version too much. Lisa’s singing is purely sublime and angelic, and Mona’s harmony just equally perfection. I can listen to this all day.

  18. Paul always had a way of taking a difficult path on a song. What MLT did with this song is harder than it looks. The uke and guitar parts are very intricate and then while they were doing that the vocal parts are woven between the twins. And you two did a fantastic job on the song. A look back at that time……..the guys I hung out with in 1967 would play Sgt. Peppers over and over each night. After a while we had a pantomime routine that we did with this song……..and it was as silly as it sounds.

    1. A pantomime routine to “She’s Leaving Home” … now that’s a thing I didn’t know I really wanted to see until now!
And thanks for the compliments 🙂

      1. It was just as silly as it sounds…..at the part of “Daddy, our baby’s gone!!” one guy had the back of his hand over his forehead as if almost fainting….at the time it cracked us up, but we were about 14 or 15 then.

  19. So beautiful! I am totally amazed at how much music the two of you can produce live and acoustically with just your two beautiful voices and instruments. But, honestly the quality of the sound recording doesn’t even start to do justice to your sublime performance! I can only guess that Mr. Weitzman recorded this and didn’t do you any favors. Too bad Rudi didn’t step in and show him how to record it properly! Perhaps I am wrong and I got a bad file or something.

    1. It’s lovely but it sounds a little echo-y, maybe the mic or its position? Perhaps the twins could re-record it sometime with their latest kit so that it shines?

  20. Frikkin GoosebumpyGroovyGreatGood…. That cheered me up on a dreary all day raining Friday afternoon…. It’s comforting and calming… Thankyou for sharing this acoustic gem… Smiling happy now… ???❤️???️????☮️✌️???????

  21. As usual…Absolutely Delightful!!!! You two continue to amaze me with your talent and abilities!!

    I love this!!! Thank You!!

  22. I am excited to see this in the pending movie “Here There And Everywhere” My name to be listed in the movie credits.wonderful that MLT are in the movie, so precious and talented MLT

  23. Beautifully Mesmerizing!! Such a Very Sweet Cover. Its easy to see why you were chosen to participate in this venture, after listening to She’s Leaving Home.
Thanks Ladies for this Brilliant wake up call. Thought I was dreaming listening to this.

  24. Your acoustic version of this song is just sublime. Your perfect harmonies take this beautiful song from Sargent Peppers to another level. So much feeling I can feel from the both of you playing here. In classical it’s the slow moving ballads that are the hardest to do perfect as every little wrinkle is noticeable, and here you guys are perfection. Just highlights what great singers and musicians you are. Brilliant! Beautiful! Bravo! You raise goose bumps yet again.

  25. Absolutely mesmerizing! I can’t describe it any other way.
Thank you for sharing this gem with us.!!! 🙂
